Chili dog and Chili Burger plate (way more than my better half could eat for lunch)
Richard N.

My better half and I completed business at a warehouse in Cartersville and finished in the early afternoon. I had seen reviews about Ross's Diner on Yelp so I suggested we try this diner for lunch. The diner is located in an older building a few blocks off Main St. there is ample parking in front of the restaurant. Upon entry into the diner you are propelled back in time to a classic diner from the '50s. They have only counter seating in a U shaped countertop. The wait staff quickly greeted us and asked for our drink orders. We were presented with menus and gazed at all the breakfast and lunch offerings. My better half ordered the chili dog and chili burger plate. I ordered the Steak & Gravy plate with pinto beans and turnip greens. It includes a homemade biscuit. Both of our meals were delicious diner food. While sitting at the counter, we observed that the wait staff knew the orders for most of the guests who came in after us. The majority of the diners were frequent restaurant guests and likely Cartersville locals. This was an amazing experience to behold because it is rarely encountered in today's world. The great thing was that the staff was friendly and very attentive to us. I returned a few days later and had an early breakfast that was equally good food and service. I highly recommend Ross's Diner anytime you find yourself in Cartersville!

Breakfast orders, shot of interior, some fun magazines, and my glasses. I hope I don't forget them.

This place is everything that I hope for when I think of going to a diner. People are wonderful, food is great, and the menu selections are awesome. Definitely worth the short detour off the interstate. We had breakfast and everything came out exactly as ordered. Coffee was hot, strong, and the cup magically refills itself.

Great little place with Southern charm! The customer service was excellent. The grits and eggs over easy were amazing. The biscuit was a little dry, but overall, it was a great experience. I definitely would come back.

Black coffee

Great breakfast. The food and service was very good. A black coffee, two eggs scrambled, country steak, grits and biscuits with gravy for under $10.00. I wish I lived closer, I would be a regular.

If you want to eat a piece of History this is the place. Went on a Saturday afternoon the Diner was extremely busy the service was exceptional and the staff great attitudes. Had the 1 and 1 there iconic dish, may not be pretty but it's flavorful and and delicious. And you certainly get get bang-for-your-buck here it's worth a try.

Best biscuits and gravy ever. So nice to still have small family owned restaurants like this gem in the downtown area. Must try.

They're exactly my style, great smoke flavor, great rub, and while tender they have a bit of a bite to them. Just the way I like it. The Mac and cheese was just like mom makes it, amazing. I got the spicy green beans and they were also tasty. The collards, what can I say, my wife could NOT stop talking about how good the collards greens were they were the first thing gone from her plate. The BBQ sauce was a bit sweet which normally isn't my thing but there is some secret ingredient in there I couldn't put my finger on that made me not be able to resist it. Lastly Michelle is high energy and fun. What a friendly person. Also loved her "Boss Lady" sign, I totally believe it. Great people, great food. If you're ever in town you've gotta swing by. Looking forward to our next trip that way because I really want to try the fried chicken too.

I'm thinking "where" cause this area doesn't look like the part. After riding down the road I started to have my doubts. When I got to the place and walked inside all of my doubts were gone. The smell of fresh burning wood and BBQ smoke made me hungrier than I already was. I was greeted by a very kind-hearted young woman (Part-owner). When I told her how I got there, we both laughed out loud and shared common thoughts on this experience. I ordered the brisket dinner w/Mac&cheese, spicy green beans and corn bread. All I will say is this... When I come back to Cartersville, I will be eating at J's from now on!!!! Man!!!!!!!!

Not in the staff but there are some minor interior issues which could be addressed. As the dining area and service areas are open plan you can easily see the duct tape doors to the dishwashers area is in dire need of repair versus patching. Also it is rather filthy along the edges. The wall a/c unit also needs to be completely cleaned as it appears to have some grime building up. Now for the biggest disappointment ... our food. Coffee - yummy Country fried steak biscuit..... yea nope not again. It's just like it says just a huge very thin slice of commercial packaged frozen patty of country fried steak laid across an open faced biscuit. I had a side of fresh fruit. But it was mostly out of season fruit so not sweet and still underripe. Biscuit was light and fluffy but I had to order a piece of cheese and some gravy to hide the flavor of the meat and coating. Chicken and waffles - husband's favorite here but today it wasn't the same at all. Chicken was super dry inside. Waffles he described as no different than ones he makes at the hotel lobby. All in all we will wait some before returning to try again at some point. Thank you to the wait staff for always having smiles and helping each other to keep us happy.

On top of that, he took the time to recommend things to do while we're visiting, which was such a thoughtful touch. Didn't catch his name but he's been there 2-1/2 years he said. Only knock, had to remind him a couple of times to refill my water. They no longer leave carafes of water on the tables as a regular customer complained it was unsanitary. A shame. They should just wash the carafes after each use. Anyway... I ordered a burger with an extra patty. No bun, with cheese, onions and mushrooms as I recall. Here were the two oddities. The meal was served with a single patty and the second patty came out 5 minutes later. Made me think they forgot. Also, the 2 patties were different. One was cooked perfectly and moist. The second was cooked a bit more (but not terribly more) but was dry. The asparagus was fantastic. I do recommend though. Cool spot.

We let him know that our son has celiac disease and it turned out that Nathan also has celiac disease. Because of this he was incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful in helping us navigate the menu and choose safe options for our son. Even better our son was able to connect with Nathan and swap stories about living gluten free which meant so much to us as parents. That personal connection truly made the experience special. The atmosphere is fantastic and feels like a true cellar tucked away in the basement giving it such a cool and unique vibe. It felt like a hidden gem and a really fun place to discover. I also had a gluten free apple cider that was made locally and it was hands down one of the best ciders I have ever had. Between the outstanding service the care shown for food allergies and the unique setting this was an unforgettable visit.
