OLD SCHOOL COOL! My hubby and I rolled into the diner looking for a late breakfast, (it wasn't 11am yet), but when I saw the chili dog to my left, I knew that my husband would have to order it and he did. Good chili dogs are hard to find, so he jumped on this one and ordered the burger and fries that came along with it as part of a special. I order my eggs over easy, (first time ever in a restaurant), sausage, hash browns and a biscuit. My eggs although a bit too easy were still good and I much prefer easy to over done. The sausage was the high fat variety but had a delicious flavor and the potatoes and biscuits were nice. This is a meal that I would never order under normal circumstances. However, today I decided to go with "old school authenticity" and this place delivered! Now, if I had a redo, I would have those eggs cooked a bit longer, order turkey sausage and wheat toast. I would also have my jam served in a ramekin because I really dislike having to open packets while I am eating. I sampled the grits and the gravy but since these are not items I would ever order in a restaurant, I would not recommend them. The grits were too thin and lacked texture while the idea of breakfast gravy is just not okay. My husband enjoyed his chili dog and fries but stated that his burger needed additional seasoning. This place is old school cool and reminds me of the type of place grandpa goes to meet the boys and shoot the breeze. There are no tables just a U-shaped bar with the kitchen sitting at the top of the U, the register at the bottom of the U and the sides are for sitting. The decor is dated and worn in the best way. When you walk in, you seat yourself on one of the well worn stools and the waitress will come by and take your order. Service is fast and efficient! ***Love the train that can be seen passing by as you eat your breakfast. The locals were very welcoming and provided great conversation during our meal. There are two popular old-style country places in Cartersville. Ross's Diner and The Four Way. Folks in town tend to prefer one over the other, but for me Ross's is the best. They have a fantastic inexpensive breakfast with light fluffy biscuits. Lunch has a selection of country dishes (meats and veggies) but I have to go with two burgers all the way and a half-order of fries. (A half order is a full plate of fries! I can't imagine what the full order looks like?) The only complaints I have are that the seating is tight for larger folks as its all counter seating and they aren't open after lunch except on Fridays. Try it out - you'll like it. read more

This is the first time eating at Ross's Diner. The food was wonderful. Everyone there was very friendly made you feel like you right at home. The three of us ate for less than $20. We will definitely be going back to try some of their other dishes. read more

My wife and I had a late lunch here today. They were open later than usual because off a local car show in town. The coffee was hot and fresh - the waitress made us a fresh pot, which we managed to finish. That small gesture on her part set the tone for the friendliness and efficiency of the service. We had a tuna sandwich and a BLT, along with a large plate of fries. The sandwich fillings were fresh and the lettuce and tomato were crisp. The sandwiches were good, but, oh, those French Fries! They were hot, crisp on the outside and soft and potato-y on the inside. I think we devoured three-quarters of the plate before either of us touched our sandwiches! Finally, the check arrived. Two very nice sandwiches, a large plate of excellent fries and nearly a whole pot of coffee ... $12.50 plus tax! For a diner, it's cute. Very tight to get to a seat and they are all bar seating. When we went in, I wasn't sure about whether we seat ourselves or what. No one greeted us and said, "have a seat." There seemed to be lots of regulars who knew what to do. We could have sat outside by ordering and going to have a seat, however, the people in front of us got the last table. The service was very hurried with trying to serve about 25 people around the diner booth, however, the food was not fast in coming out. It wasn't short-order/fast cooking. We ate breakfast there and we liked our food once it came out. My toast came later after I asked for it. Our server was friendly, but I felt like I had to know what I wanted rather quickly. It was not a place you can go and sit to enjoy eating at your leisure. The seats definitely didn't lend to sitting there for long. We did strike up a short conversation with people next to us and lends to getting to know the locals. The food was great, the service was good, however, not overly friendly. We may go back for a quick breakfast, but not regularly unless we get a seat outdoors. read more

Pretty neat little country diner. All bar stools which is a little different. Food is pretty good though. Typical country diner fare. Thankfully not over salted. Had the Bologna and eggs which was great! The gravy is not too heavy but would be nice with just a little bit more sausage. read more

As much as I'd like to say my wife and I enjoyed our lunch today, I can't. I love old diner style restaurants like this but if the food has to be good. I had the "special" (chili, dog, chili burger with fries) and was as disappointed as I've ever been with a lunch. It tasted like Hormel canned Chili and the cheapest hamburger patty and hot dog they could buy! If you have the kind of local support they have at this place you would think they would feed their patrons the best they can or at least a quality product. The breakfast looked okay and by the reviews it sounds like it too but our lunch was not at all. The service however was very good and very friendly. Won't eat here again. It does as though someone that works here would welcome quest and give them a clue of how things work but they don't. We just grabbed a seat. read more

The food is good, the place is small. I love the people who work here and everyone does seem nice. But like I said, the place was a bit to small for my liking, felt claustrophobic to say the least. I also found a bit of a hard piece in my food, which I didn't like in the slightest. The owner seems really friendly, and the people here seem to like the place. It just wasn't for me to be honest. Ole Times there are not forgotten kind of place. Don't complain, call Duane. I like a good Susie Q. I hadn't seen it on a menu since LBJ was tugging on puppy ears. It's a bun with gravy. Not much to it. It's what we used to get when we couldn't afford the burger patty. They to a good job on burgers here. If you can do it to one they are good at doing it. I come for the chili dogs. They are plumb gooder'n snuff. It's not a cheap wiener but it's not from New York either. It's got a solid casing the gives a snap on the first bite. Bun is fresh, again nothing fancy. It's straight off the grocery store shelf. The cheap bottom shelf at that. But it works well. It's deep enough to allow the chili to ride the hot dog well. The chili is plain ole chili-o mix with about twice as much deer meat or hamburger as the recipe calls for. A diced onion and a can or two of diced tomatoes. Trick is to add water to it every day to stretch it out and make it all week. It don't always make it. Onions are cold chopped fresh every morning Bermuda's. Vidalias come spring time. You can one in three bites holding it in one hand. Four if you are riding a bicycle. They tell the young uns not to try thus at home. Service is friendly. They keep the counter clean. Service is agreeable but watch your language. read more

Ross's was surprisingly really good! My boyfriend and I were looking for something quick for dinner, and found this little spot here on yelp. On the outside, it's really small and doesn't look like much, the inside is like an old school diner. Our waitress was very welcoming and friendly, the food came out quick. My boyfriend ordered the country fried steak, which he said was pretty good. I ordered the Steakburger and it was amazing. It was huge, flavorful, and well worth the price. I definitely recommend this place- whether it's for a breakfast, a light brunch, or dinner like us. :) read more
