Well, the missus and the cousins have finally arrived from the South, and today marked their first full day in Italy. What better way to spend it than wandering around Venice and enjoying dinner at Rossopomodoro? They're still in the "Italy training program" and these menus tend to confuse them, so after three weeks here I felt obligated to guide them toward the promised land. After much studying, debating, and staring at menus, it was finally time to order. I went with the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, and the wife and I shared a salad. When that salad hit the table, it nearly stole the entire show. We drizzled on a little balsamic vinaigrette, added a shake of salt and pepper, and suddenly we were ready to dance right there in the alley. Fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, crisp greens--every ingredient tasted like it had been picked that morning. It was outstanding. The pasta was very good, but today the salad was the undisputed champion of the meal. Of course, dining outside along Venice's busy walkways only adds to the experience. Watching people pass by while enjoying great food is one of those simple pleasures that makes Venice such a special place. Rossopomodoro delivered a fantastic meal and a great evening. Visited this spot with my family per the recommendation of our Airbnb host, and it didn't disappoint! Came by twice in the span of 3 days (once for lunch and then for dinner). The service was fast and the staff was attentive. Both times, our party of 4 was seated immediately, since they have multiple floors of seating areas. For drinks, I ordered an Aperol Spritz and a white wine. I'd never had Aperol Spritz in Italy, but was excited to try it. It was good, but had much less frizz than expected. The white wine (Greco di Tufo) was very good. We wanted something light and refreshing and that was exactly what we got, per the server's recommendation. For lunch I had the pasta carbonara and for dinner the Cafuncella Pizza. The pasta carbonara was al dente and the sauce very creamy with the perfect amount of pepper. The only thing I would've done was add more guanciale. The pizza had provolone cheese, pancetta, tomato, rosemary potatoes, and cacioricotta flakes. The pizza dough was extra thin, to the point that some areas of the pizza would break down a bit when trying to grab a bite. However, the sauce and the toppings were very good and the description of the pizza on the menu says it's thin, so I wasn't surprised. Overall, I recommend this spot when in the area. I would say go for the pasta instead of the pizza, since there are far better pizza places in the area. read more

This is definitely a tourist restaurant. Think Buca di Beppo with a smaller portion size. Restaurant is rather large for the area. Staff is nice. Be warned, there is zero cell service, so when you pass by the sign as you walk in, take a picture of the WiFi code. You'll need it. For the appetizers, Meatballs were small and the sauce really needed a little garlic salt? Paccheri noodles were not as soft as I hoped and the promised burrata was hard to find. Chocolate torte was fine. Not quite a fresh chocolate lava cake. More like a premade dessert warmed up. It's fine for what it is. Seems family friendly. But very basic. It was lunch time, we were in St. Mark's Square, we were hungry and were in the mood for pizza. Using Yelp, we found Rosso Pomodoro only a few minutes walk from where we were. We were able to get in with only about a three minute wait and walked into a fairly large restaurant. We were seated near a window and the restaurant decor was very attractive and inviting. We were both in the mood for a pizza and a beer, so we immediately zeroed into that part of the menu. Both of the pizzas we ordered were excellent with a charred crust and perfect dough. The ingredients were high quality and tasty. Our only mistake was ordering two pizzas, because each of us could only finish half. This is a popular pizza chain so we had to try it out. It was pretty good but also I didn't feel like it was anything special either. Ended up getting a pasta which tasted fairly fresh, the noodles had a nice bite to it and the sauce was good. The pizza was crispy and thin. Flavors were solid and we enjoyed it. The parmesan cheese they gave us had a dead maggot in it, which might mean it's super fresh but not totally sure. Overall for a chain, it's pretty good. Just okay. I'm not understanding the hype about this spot. The pizza we got was flimsy and hard to even eat. It appeared and tasted to lack any pizza sauce. It was just cheese and vegetables. It was a vegetarian pizza. I would not recommend it. The cheese ravioli was different. It had cheese inside and then it was topped with crunchy cheese. That was weird for me because the cheese inside the ravioli was super soft and gave a mushy consistency. Then the crunchy cheese garnish with the mush inside, didn't work. It was gross to me. I couldn't eat this. Service was good. No issues there. One of the cooks was drinking beer while making our pizza. Maybe that's why the pizza sucked? Cute place, and I like the decor. 9.5 euro pizza turned into 11 euro charge. Service charge was 27 percent (5.00 euros on a 18.50 bill) I was not happy with entreprenurial waiter. In waiters defense, I and my wife were part of a large tour group. The waiter knew that we did not speak Italian and would not be visiting again anytime soon. None the less, I dislike being overcharged, as it is annoying. Relative to the food, the Pizza did not have much cheese on it. Once again, I attribute the lack of cheese to being part of a large tour group and the restaurant minimizing food costs where they can. Visitors to Venice have better alternatives. If you have to eat at this restaurant, for whatever reason, do what you can avoid being tagged as foreign tourist. From what I gather from other reviews, Italian customers probably get better service because they can speak the language and can pushing back on the BS I encountered. read more

Found this place through yelp and decided to go for dinner. The place seems like a normal restaurant from the inside but is actually HUGE with a large upstairs area as well. Had no idea from the pictures that this is actually a chain restaurant. We got the seafood pasta, bruschetta, and diavola pizza. The seafood pasta had plenty of clams and mussels and a huge portion. Pizza was pretty good and bruschetta was ok. I would consider coming here again but probably try something different next time read more

I 1st went to RossoPomodoro in 2012, subsequent trips to Venice were w cruises ships n just never found the time to do it. The experience was etched in my mind n I promised myself I would come back. The pizza looked nice but was not cooked, just as mushy in the middle, I wanted to send it back but the place was mobbed n after3 hrs in the basilica, my husband didn't want to bother, I ate it coz we paid sitting fee! lol garbage fee so 1 pizza n beer n drink was expensive n it tasted nothing like a Neapolitan pizza they claimed to be. The first night we stopped in, the service and food were good. Ultimately, we returned to try it again to see if it was as good as the first. We were seated in a less busy area of the restaurant, and the service was incredibly slow. The first time we went, we were given bread at the table and a coffee container with oils and salt in it. On the second visit, we definitely did not get bread or the container with the oils in it. It was some of the better pizzas that we had tasted while in Venice. The Burrata was good, but it had some form of bread crumbs that I could have done without. The Tiramisu was ok, but it had some hard edges, meaning it was not as fresh as I had hoped. Very plush crust that comes out of a wood fire oven that's really stacked with toppings -- other restaurants seem to really sparingly add toppings but ours was overloaded with a whole bunch of goodies. The pasta was really sub-par so would definitely just opt to order pizzas here instead. Service leaves much to be desired, they are friendly but definitely not attentive and kind of stand around in a single area by the register. In terms of ambiance, it's neither fancy nor super casual. Just finished at St Marks and the Doge palace and My daughter wanted pizza, a good pizza. By good she means out of a brick oven. We stopped by in Venice for a bite because friends had recommended this place. It was a deceptively small store front, it went back for a good 100ft of tables and chairs, the place was huge. It was dark, but you could still see enough to make out what dishes other patrons were eating. We had Cacio de Pepe, creamy smooth, peppery and thick almost undercooked pasta. A pepperoni pizza they call spicy sausage pizza & a seafood risotto. The pizza was fired with charcoal or wood that we tasted a hint of smoke, & the seafood was a wide variety of sea creatures deliciously wrapped in creamy risotto.
