Fennel salad...delicious!
Paul L.

Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Went there for a late lunch after arriving in Venice. Off the beaten path in a fairly quiet area. It's next to a kindergarten school. Was fun watching the kids get picked up and go about their everyday life on Venice

Calzone

Ordered the diavola pizza and calzone being the good Americans we are. :) Cheese was fresh and I don't know what they put in their dough but it was the best part in my opinion. The calzone came out extra hot and huge! Basically an entire pizza folded over. I had the ham and mushroom calzone which was all they had on the menu that was calzone'd. My fiancee got the diavola pizza which was good, but the cheese wasn't the same imo and I preferred the calzone. Bonus Sunday morning though was kids playing their stringed instruments. Service was mediocre at best though.

Gnocchi

I normally search for restaurants out of the main touristy areas for places where locals go to eat. Food: I ordered the gnocchi and sea bass. Both dishes used simple ingredients, and were both amazing! The gnocchi was warm, soft, and flavorful. The sea bass was cooked to perfection. It's a whole fish with the bones inside. Sides Notes Ambiance: I visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was quiet. Service: The service was good. The staff waited until I finished my gnocchi before serving the sea bass. Overall: If you want to venture away from the touristy areas, I recommend.

We were hungry just getting in from Barcelona. We settled on this place initially because of the reviews. Overall, it was good for a first meal in Italy. We had the 1. charcutterie plate - 3.5 2. Vegetable platter - 4 3. Pizza with shrimp, anchovies - 3.5, good flavors but crust was a bit soft 4. Squid ink pasta - 4 I think price was okay??? About 45 euros.

My family and I were strolling along in Venice on a Sunday afternoon in search of a place to eat, but sadly many places were closed. Al Faro just happened to be open and able to accommodate all 12 of us! We sat outside under big umbrellas that kept us away from the heat of the sun, and the location was great in that it wasn't in the center of a busy area but rather private despite being outside. Now the food - really good! I wasn't blown away, but I was definitely satisfied. Pasta was the perfect texture and the sauces were delicious (I sampled most of my family's orders and can confirm multiples sauces were delicious lol.) I had the spaghetti bolognese which was great, very simple yet flavorful. The servings were pretty decent as well. The pizza was really good as well! All in all, Al Faro is a pretty solid place for good quality Italian food. It's tucked in a nice little corner of the Jewish ghetto, away from heavily trafficked area so you know you're not falling for a tourist trap. If you're ever in the area I definitely recommend you stop by!

Salmon Gnocchi, Truffle Risotto, Lasagna

We tried this restaurant our last night in Italy. Of course we wanted to try all of the food which did not disappoint. All of the food we got was good but The salmon gnocchi is a MUST try. House wine was not the best option try a bottle instead.

Salmon Pasta, Eggplant Parmesan, Bruschetta

We ate here looking for a reasonably priced authentic Italian restaurant, they did not disappoint! They were happy to make me a Bellini, despite it not being on the menu. I got the bruschetta and eggplant parmesan. My fiancé got the menu which included the salmon pasta and steak. That salmon pasta was incredible! He still talks about that pasta and how good it was! We totally wish we ate here a second night. If you would like to know more about our trip to Venice, check out TheCoreyStory.com :)

This place is the bomb! Food comes out super fast and it had the best pizza we tried in Venice. The gamberetti (shrimp and arugula) pizza is really good and a Venetian flavor so I highly recommend it. I also had the salami and mushroom one (forgot the name) and the capricciosa both very good but the shrimp one was king. The other must have dish here is the salmon gnocchi!!! Came here twice because it was so good. Buon appetito! Capricciosa, a classic combination of toppings. (Artichokes) Gamberetti. 5/5 so fresh and flavorful!

The beast bruschetta I've ever had

This was by far the best restaurant I ate at in all Venice. I have been to Venice a few times and this was such a pleasant surprise. The food was fantastic, and relatively inexpensive. It was a quiet setting we had a nice table outside and a friendly waiter. I would definitely eat here again.

Our last meal in Venice & I'm absolutely in looooove. First, the staff: they are wonderful & sweet. Our waiters paid attention while we were eating to make sure we didn't need anything, but I'm glad they're nothing like American waiters and constantly ask if I'm okay with my mouth full of food. Now, the FOOD! A M A Z I N G. To share we ordered the fried squid & prawns (can't remember the exact dish name) and with just a little lemon on top, it needed no dipping sauce. It tasted like actual seafood not something that was once upon a time frozen then thawed & fried. for me: squid ink spaghetti. It's definitely a bit salty but that's what I'm looking for with seafood dishes so I'm so happy, and the taste was like nothing I've ever had before. If you're in Venice, you need to eat this pasta at least once! my boyfriend: romana pizza (tomato, mozzarella, basil & anchovies) again, the pieces with anchovy were salty but it's what we expected so no let downs at all! And it was prepared & baked right in front of us so we know it was made well. Takeaway: I got gnocchi Di salmone and all I have to say is: GET IT! I took a bite when we got back to our hotel just to try it while it was warm & I wanted to eat it all despite just having a full meal right before. It has an amazing flavor, the gnocchi is cooked perfectly as well. 10/10.

Very great service.

The food was excellent, the waiter was pleasant. We had a group of 11, the lunch special for 15 Euro and many choices was fantastic.

I stumbled across Trattoria da Gianni tucked along a busy street with most tables already full, which is usually a good sign. No overthinking it, I took a seat and went with my usual test dish--spaghetti carbonara--paired with a Coca-Cola. After a short wait of about five minutes, the plate arrived piping hot, steam rising off it like it had just been sent straight from the heart of the kitchen. First impression: simple, honest, and inviting. I added a generous sprinkle of Parmesan, gave it a quick mix, and went in. That first bite delivered exactly what you hope for in a place like this. The pasta was cooked beautifully--firm but not stiff--and the sauce was rich, creamy, and well balanced without being heavy. It had that comforting, no-nonsense flavor that makes you slow down and actually pay attention to what you're eating. Sitting outside under the open-air Venetian streetscape added to the experience. Between bites you've got the rhythm of people passing by, conversations bouncing off the surrounding buildings, and that relaxed energy only Venice seems to pull off so effortlessly. It's the kind of spot where you can easily lose track of time--half people-watching, half just enjoying the moment. All in all, Trattoria da Gianni delivered a solid first meal in Venice. Nothing overly complicated, just good food in a great setting--which is exactly what you want when you're starting a stay in a city like this. I'll almost certainly find myself back here again before I leave Venice.

For dinner in peak season, try to make a reservation as the restaurant is very small. We arrived before our reservation time and were seated immediately inside and greeted warmly by the restaurant owner. We ordered a bottle of wine to start (most under 20 Euros for a 75 ML bottle). For appetizers we ordered the cheese with honey for 13 Euros, absolutely amazing! We also combined this with the local olive oil and fresh bread brought to the table to start as well. For our second course we chose two pastas, the Penne Alla Amatriciana (I think it was around 12 Euros), and the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (I think it was around 12 Euros as well). Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation. For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.) The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. It truly was like you were dining at the home of the owner and is a must try if you are in Venice!

Servers were welcoming and answered questions my friend and I had about the menu. The steak platter was AMAZING. 10/10. Truly such a memorable meal. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Definitely get the Lombatello steak if you are feeling carnivorous…read more Throngs of lively people sipping wine and snacking on cichetti late into the evening along the canal. The cichetti selection looked very good (variety thinned out throughout the night), but our party of 3 was starving and we opted to sit inside for a late ~8:30pm dinner. We got one order of grilled lamb and the Lombatello steak for 2. The lamb was also good, no gamey taste. The Lombatello steak was simply fantastic, choose this cut specifically!! A heaping pile of medium-rare meat (cannot buy single portions) that was very tender and flavorful. It's cushioned with steak fries and grilled veggies on the side. Paired with two glasses of house wine, this meal was fantastic. Ended up with a to go box of steak and fries. Servers are very busy, bustling around clearing tables, taking orders, etc, but they are vigilant if you need anything. We saw one table of ~10 order a steak platter, and it was a sight to behold - a massive wooden cutting board packed with steak, transported by two waiters.
