The waiter is very friendly and invite us to have lunch, and menu price look reasonable so let's go for it. We ordered clam and mussels. So amazing and yummy, especially the soup! We were in Venezia for vacation recently and tried to dine out of the main San Marco tourist area as much as possible to try to get the most unique Venice experience and La Colonna was an amazing find! For dinner in peak season, try to make a reservation as the restaurant is very small. We arrived before our reservation time and were seated immediately inside and greeted warmly by the restaurant owner. We ordered a bottle of wine to start (most under 20 Euros for a 75 ML bottle). For appetizers we ordered the cheese with honey for 13 Euros, absolutely amazing! We also combined this with the local olive oil and fresh bread brought to the table to start as well. For our second course we chose two pastas, the Penne Alla Amatriciana (I think it was around 12 Euros), and the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (I think it was around 12 Euros as well). Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation. For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.) The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. This was my families & my favorite spot that we dined at in Venice. We tried several places & La Colonna stood out. From the service (very friendly staff), to the location/setting (very quaint, quiet, cute), to the delicious food. My 6 & 8 year old both loved their meals ( Penne al Pesto & Spaghetti ala Carbonara). My husband & I had the mushroom risotto & we all shared the Carpaccio de carne con rucola. We recently ate at this establishment and while the ambiance was nice, once we our food arrived it became evident that in time time since its stellar reviews and now they must have had a change of chefs, as the food itself was quite dissapointing. Both my dining companion and myself received food that could only be described at tasteless. It was quite odd as other restaurants in the area had flavorful meals and this was something that I myself could make. I have been banned from cooking in my household for serving unseasoned chicken, this should tell you enough. Super cozy restaurant in Venice! They had special deals here for three course meals, and I ended up getting a deal that included clam spaghetti and grilled fish/vegetables. They offered complementary bread and bruschetta at the beginning of the meal which I really enjoyed! As far as the quality of the food goes, I don't think it was the best I've had but at the price point it was pretty good. The pasta I got was okay but the star of the meal was the grilled vegetables - I'm not usually a huge vegetable eater but those were delicious! We went here on Christmas night and they were open. This is definitely a hidden gem. I'm glad that we got lost and came across this restaurant. It's a very friendly welcoming restaurant. My boyfriend and I went in and grabbed a table. The gentleman serving us was great ! He was fast and very attentive. We started with some carpaccio, bread, and a bottle of wine. This restaurant is very well priced and the portion sizes are pretty big. I ordered the breaded pork chop and my boyfriend ordered a pasta dish. All the wood was excellent. It was all cooked perfectly. It had a very cozy home atmosphere and it seemed to be more of a locals dinner spot. Our friend recommended La Colonna for us to eat at when visiting Venice. It's a cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating in a quiet and charming neighborhood. We were seated right away outdoors where there is more fresh air, in the summer it's nice to be outside. The menu had much to offer and also had explanations in multiple languages, so you know what you're ordering. We ordered the grilled scallops to start. I had spaghetti alla Vongole (pasta with clams), and it was all very delicious! My husband ordered a seafood linguine and it was also tasty, it had mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari, and little octopuses. Before the meal, they also gave bruschetta and bread. Because of the notorious reputation Venice has in regards to tourist traps, I was keen on finding great restaurants at a relatively affordable (non-touristy) price. This place fit the bill. This restaurant was super cozy and small so for my party of 3 on a Thursday night around 7:30, we waited about 20 minutes. Our server was so fantAstic as he seemed to be the only waiter working that day. Now onto the food: Salmon Gnocchi (5/5): I loved this dish. It had a strong salmon flavor and pillowly soft gnocchi with it Fried assortment of seafood (5/5): this was AMAZING. It was a huge pile of fried seafood and they gave such a wide variety too. Seafood pasta (3/5): plenty of seafood but definitely wasn't fresh or homemade pasta (maybe I just had expectations as this was the last leg of my week long trip in Italy) I also ordered a Bellini for 4 euros which was delicious. Overall I loved this meal in Venice! Great food, atmosphere, service and affordable too as it was 70 euros for 3 people as compared to a meal we had the night before for 120 euros! read more

The food was totally bland. No flavor whatsoever. We had the house lasagna and was totally bland flavorless is not even close to the lack of flavor. I need to find another word but I can't seem to find the taste for it. Also ordered the seafood risotto. We had to put a lot of salt on it in order to make it edible. The chef should taste the food before it goes out. My wife had the ink cuddle fish pasta and she liked it. Also the grilled vegetable were good but who can go wrong with grilled vegetables. Menu said draft beer but there was none. My wife liked her Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio. It was cool and crisp. It was really a shame because we really hoped this restaurant would live up to the other Yelp reviews. This place was in the neighborhood that was staying in and I wanted to check it out after a few days of feasting in the heart of town. Overall this is way way overrated here, no way it should have a 5 star rate here To start in the middle of the busiest summer they had one server assigned for the whole place. He was nice but for from attentive. Food was just ok and with great ingredients but far from anything special. I had the anchovies to start and it was bland . Black squid ink pasta is a common here and there's was pale had not sufficient ink for dee flavor. Lastly spaghetti and the tiniest clams I have ever seen despite the pasta being tasty. After three days of searching for fresh cooked pasta and nice local Italian service, we found this joint by mistake. Four of us ate dinner. We returned 2 nights later because it was very good food, prepared perfectly, at a great value. The squid spaghetti is prepared with large pieces of tender squid and the perfect amount of "ink". In Venice it is generally a good sign if the waiters are not out front trying to drag you off the sidewalk. Here they don't have to do so. It opens at 6:30 which is a perfect early seating time for Americans. The three course meal options are about $24 USD and a great value if you are unfamiliar with the multi-course Italian style. I had a decent but not great dinner at La Colonna. I had a forgettable gnocchi, and my friend had a pretty good carbonara. What really killed this place for me was the totally unacceptable tiramisu. It was soggy and made with cake instead of ladyfingers. The topping was more of a mousse than a cream, and the flavor wasn't very good. I only ate about a quarter of it, which I have never, ever done with tiramisu. On the plus side, my friend's panna cotta was delicious. Service was polite and fast, but not very helpful when I had questions. I would come back again for some wine or for coffee and panna cotta, but I wouldn't get a full meal. read more

My main course was a veal chop in a brown butter sauce. It was a great piece of veal and cooked perfectly. The sauce complimented it very well. This was a place suggested by our tour guide to try out the fried fish and the fish soup! Pretty quiet place to sit and have your lunch, away from the hustle bustle of the busy touristy spots. Unfortunately we didn't end up having the fish soup because it's 15€ for a bowl which seemed quite a lot for soup We ordered grilled scallops and spaghetti with scampi and tomatoes! Nay for the grilled scallops! It's just a measly quantity for quite much and seems quite bland for my taste. The spaghetti on the other hand was pretty tasty! Also ordered a gnocchi with pomodoro! Ensuite mes cousins ont choisis un plat pour 2 personnes au prix de 23€, mais ce qui n'était pas précisé c'est que les deux personnes devaient payer 23€. Nous l'avons appris en regardant la note. Quand à moi le serveur ne m'a même pas demander la cuisson que je voulais et pour un supplément de frites (surgelés je précise) à 4€50 je n'en ai même pas eu 15. De plus il était désagréable et a refusé que l'on paye séparément sous prétexte qu'il n'avait pas le temps. Je n'ai jamais été aussi déçu et je ne conseille a personne d'aller manger la bas. C'est une arnaque, si j'avais payé 15€ j'aurais trouvé ce restau pas si mal, mais pour 32€ Cela est juste la plus grande déception culinaire de ma vie. read more

The challenge you have to master, however, is to find the restaurant. This is a great "off the beaten path" restaurant in Venice. I ordered the Menu special for €22 consisting of Sardines, Squid Ink Pasta, and chili infused spinach. Other folks at our table ordered Carbonara spaghetti and lasagne. All were super delicious and it was all large portions. Amazing value for great food. Grab a table outside and enjoy their good food and service. Their garden area is delightful on a sunny day. Loved the lightly fried calamari and gnocchi. The spaghetti carbonara was nothing special. Limoncello is a perfect way to end your meal. Again, service was incredible. I watched them rearrange tables for a family of 8 and then run to the shop to get another bottle of Bellini. Hidden gem in the busy streets of Venice! La Colonna is located away from the tourism sector, and can be easy to miss when walking past just as my wife and I did with our first go around. There is outdoor and indoor seating with tables that can be pushed together to accommodate larger parties. The outside patio area is covered with a vine pergola to protect you from the sun. The flowering vines overhead and surrounding the patio creates an intimate environment in this sleepy plaza. My wife ordered the spaghetti carbonara based on the pictures she saw in previous reviews. It was scrumptious with the perfect melding of light creamy sauce with salty pieces of ham. I elected to order the penne pasta with pesto and pine nuts. The sauce was clearly fresh and flavorful! I found myself stuffed half way through the plate but had to clean the plate with how delicious this dish was. We also ordered a bottle of water to share and had bread for the table with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My only complaint is that the restaurant menu says La Colonna serves wine by the bottle only and had only one option for beer. I would recommend serving glasses of wine as well and potentially expanding the beer selection. The total bill was 26.50 Eu and goes to show a great meal in Venizia doesn't have to break the bank. read more

We are staying near La Colonna but I think we would make our way over here as often as we could even if we were on the other side of Venice. This is a wonderful little restaurant with a covered patio perfect for warm weather dining. All the food we had here was delicious--the carbonara, the veal, the fish. But the star of the show was the fish soup. This is why I give this place 5 stars. It is listed as a primo platti but it is enormous. I can eat a lot but there was no way I could eat anything after this. It is a spicy tomato based soup loaded with mussels, clams, shrimp, squid, langoustine, and fleshy fish. The flavor of the soup was a beautiful combination of tomato, fish and spice. Each mouthful was culinary treasure. I would love to have this recipe. read more
