    Calamari and Caprese salad
    Matt W.

Just wow. We picked this place based on reviews and recommendations, and it didn't let us down. From the perfectly prepared calamari to the amazing fresh caprese salad (try their own in house balsamic vinegar! It's so good!), and then having fresh fish shared with my wife (branzino and turbot), and bolognese for the boys, this place was DELICIOUS! And they have been the only place that has accommodated the boys requests for "Shirley Temple," mixing sprite and luxardo cherry syrup, the staff were over the top amazing with service and attention (not common in Europe). Tiramisu was fantastic, apparently their secret is Madeira in the soak liquid. Highly recommend. And make a reservation ahead of time. The restaurant was "on the list only" for lunch today.

The trip to Burrano via vaporetto can be arduous (but affordable) as it takes an hour and includes a transfer to another vaporetto at a different station in Murano. Bear in mind, the last vaporetto of the day leaves Burrano at 1730. So, dinner reservations mean you are staying the night. Now, with all that said, the trip was well worth it, particularly having a meal at Al Gatto Nero. Waiting for a table without a reservation, we were provided a glass of Prosecco. I will start with service by Marco that was impeccable. He understood we wanted to taste as many different things as possible and worked with Chef Ruggero to make that happened. We sat outside as inside was completely booked and it was cold but Marco made sure we were as comfortable as possible. The range of seafood was amazing--traditional Burrano style risotto with a sea brine, Venetian style cuttlefish in its black ink sauce, prawns, dover sole, monkfish, sardines--all grilled. For me, the trip there was about the risotto and it did not disappoint. Add to this the wine list was excellent but I was in search of the Venissa wine made from the Dorona grape that only grows on the neighboring island of Mazzorba (connected by a foot bridge). And, this restaurant had that wine. Wow! Herbal, earthy with a hint of salt. Nice and dry, perfectly matched to the various seafood we consumed. Add into this, the meal was completed with a tiramisu with the cookie base freshly made by a local bakery and a fresh house made mascarpone. Great way to celebrate the first day of spring and my birthday. Can't wait to return.

Fantastic authentic Venetian meal set up by Trafalgar on a group tour. The food was an experience and courses were coming out of the kitchen left and right. Even included in the dinner was limoncello. What a great experience.

Highlight of our trip to Burano. Staff was top notch and the fish risotto was the star. Make sure you go with your appetite and the risotto is a min order of 2 which comes out to around $50 EU. We had the waiter select our wine based on what we ordered and it was Devine a Chardonnay pair perfectly with the fresh Bronzino which was deboned table side (very cool presentation). Highly recommend you make a reservation at this Michelin star restaurant. We were going to go to the acclaimed Anthony Bourdain recommended one but it was closed on Tuesday. The razor clams and scallops were so fresh and full of flavor.

We stumbled upon this restaurant on our trip to Burano. We did not have a reservation and they still were able to sit up. The service from the staff members were amazing. They were recently awarded a Michelin star which we didn't know until we were seated. This is a family ran restaurant with such an elegant taste. We had the spider crab and bolognese pasta both were made with fresh hand made pasta. This was one of our favorite restaurant of our entire Italy trip. Tiramisu was hands down the best I have ever had.

Al Gatto Nero certainly lives up to its reputation. The food was exceptional, as expected, and the service was friendly and considerate. The weather was questionable, so although we sat on the quayside, a spot was waiting inside in case of rain. The host came to check when some drizzle threatened, and stayed to chat about the weather... amongst other things. More than just the overall experience, though, the risotto burano was wonderful. And I don't usually like risotto. I can't recommend this restaurant enough.

The best meal we had in venice!! Amazing spaghetti with clams - the sauce with tomatos was fresh and paired well, the pasta was cooked al dente, and the tiramisu was the best we had so far on the trip. The service was exceptional - and we also got complimentary prosecco!

Dining at Al Gato Nero was a phenomenal experience! My wife and I arrived in Burano about an hour prior to our lunch reservations and explored this gorgeous island prior to our meal. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were very fortunate to have an outdoor table along the canal with a gorgeous view of the colorful buildings. The restaurant was full booked and anyone without a reservation was turned away. We initially thought this was going to be a relatively quick lunch, but we were very tempted by the restaurant's 7 course tasting menu and ended up spending hours of the afternoon enjoying our meal and the view. The meal started with a complimentary glass of prosecco and our first course was Spider Crab. The crab was shredded and super fresh with a hint of lemon. The second course was the Tris di Crostacei all Griglia which consisted of tender flavorful scallops with a light char and a hint of lemon and juicy fresh razor clams. The third course was Antipasto di Vongole Misto which was basically a mixture of tender juicy and fresh clams in a super flavorful briny broth. The fourth course, Risotto alla Buranella, which is arguably the restaurant's most popular dish, was delicious. This briny flavorful risotto lived up to the hype but, ironically, was my least favorite dish of the meal. The food was just that good. The fifth course was the Tagliolini alla Grancevola. Al dente and briny pasta was mixed with shredded shellfish and flavorful tomato. The sixth course (and main entrée) was the Branzino (or Sea Bass). The fish was meaty, tender, and flakey and paired with savory potatoes and juicy tangy tomatoes. Finally, our dessert was creamy with crumbly almond cookies. We were so stuffed after our meal we canceled our dinner reservations that evening. We could not have asked for a better experience in Burano. We had one of our best meals in Italy with one of our favorite views. Dining at Al Gato Nero is a must.

An interesting experience We are American tourists visiting Italy and made our way to the island of Burano. We arrived later than we should, spent much time eating, and quickly saw the town before heading back to Vienna. We had come up with Al Gatto Nero as the place we wanted to eat, but our travels made it uncertain enough we did not try making a reservation. We arrived shortly before they were closing for the afternoon and were lucky to score an outdoor table on a beautiful day. Our server was quite personable and we enjoyed our interactions with him. New to Italy we were just learning about this first course second course eating but not enough to have figured out if we ordered both it is a lot of food. We ordered both. I began with spaghetti with meat sauce, and it arrived within a few minutes. I found it undercooked, al dente I suppose, but it was still ok to me. it was also a large portion for something I was viewing as an appetizer. Al Gatto Nero has an extensive menu, primarily seafood, and it was hard for my wife to choose what we wanted. I had decided on their John Dory and when our server came over to recommend John Dory for two, and that was what we ordered. Filleted at tableside, it was a firm mild white meat. Prepared with a mixture of potatoes, eggplant, tomatoes and more in oil, it was a delicious accompaniment for the fish. I didn't notice anything too special with the fish itself but the rest was very good. This was not an inexpensive meal. We enjoyed our food and visit, but was it worth the cost? We decided it was overpriced, and that is why I deducted the one star.

    The fish fry was yum!

Greeted with a glass of champagne, the most delicious fish ever, so fresh & light. Served so elegantly. Highly recommend!

They had AC inside and it was nice considering it was a hot day. Only reason I gave only 3 stars is because the one server was sort of rude. The table next to us didn't want wine and just ordered water. When he turned his back he was rolling his eyes. Maybe they don't drink or want to hydrate with water (which you pay for anyway) since it was hot outside. Then when they didn't order more expensive food items he also seemed disgusted and annoyed Everyone else there was great but it makes me wonder what he did to us since I just ordered spaghetti with butter sauce. (wasn't that hungry and just wanted a simple pasta dish) if he doesn't approve of such inexpensive food items maybe he should suggest them be removed!!! Scampi is cut up shrimp added to the standard risotto with fish flavored sauce. I thought it was good. Maybe not authentic enough but I researched the other restaurants and they are about the same. Like all other restaurants they charge for bread as a cover fee. I would avoid the spaghetti with butter sauce. It's what it's called so nothing special about it. The next table ordered the grilled fish. This was quite a show. They present it in a platter then transfer it to the 2 dinner plates. They remove the fish bones and dish out the fillet. The left overs (bones) gets tossed with salt/pepper and they pour the fish juice over the fillet.

A taste of history & tradition…read more Our lunch at #TrattoriadaRomano was unforgettable -- nestled in colorful Burano, this fourth-generation family-run gem has been crafting its iconic risotto the same way since the 1920s, and you can feel that legacy in every bite. The dining room is a living gallery -- walls packed with hundreds of paintings and sketches gifted by patrons over a century. Among them: cartoons of Ernest Hemingway in a hilariously manic duck-hunting scene -- and his signature even adorns their guestbooks. We ordered the legendary "risotto digò" (go‑fish risotto) -- a creamy, umami-packed delight. No cream; just perfectly cooked rice in a deeply flavored fish broth made the texture silky and indulgentTruly, risotto that feels like history on a plate. "A taste of history and tradition" is no exaggeration -- this dish and entire atmosphere are one-of-a-kind. From four generations of love to the art-lined walls, every detail made our meal "unique and awesome."

According to chat gpt this is the best restaurant on burano and you should wait to get there without eating on murano. The mixed seafood grill they charged €35 for consisted of 1 small shrimp (uncleaned) , a 1 inch piece of squid a 2 dried out pieces of fish (see bass?) Now I know we're not famous artists like the old images on the wall, and we're not Keith Richard who has his photo on the wall twice. But I would think our euro's spend just the same as anyone else's. My advice, walk past this trattoria and find one with better food, services etc. and one that doesn't rely on its reputation from 20-30 years ago!
