I noticed some of the negative reviews but I have to say, this place was amazing. We arrived at 7:00 p.m. which is a little early to eat in Italy, but we were hungry. We were the first ones in the restaurant and the owner, Marco greeted us with a smile. I immediately noticed the colored drawings on the ceiling and Marco explained to us that he posts the drawings for everyone to see. I noticed that they were the work of children and I thought it was a sweet gesture. He offered us the chance to color a page and we laughed and said no thank you. That was sweet of him. The Fritto Misto Siciliano was the perfect starter. There were three of us and we had no problem finishing it. They items were crunchy about not greasy. The Parmigiana D Melanzane was another great starter. My husband ordered the daily special of the day which was Sea-bass with asparagus. It was seasoned well with caramelized onions and pistachio nuts. The Polpette de la Nona was seasoned well and very moist. The potatoes that came with it was a nice side. Pure deliciousness. The Pasta Al Forno was delicious too. We shared the cannolis and an orange tiramisu. Can I just say wow. Every dish was delicious and the dessert was something. I don't think I'll be. I'll be able to get anywhere else back home. This place did not disappoint. The service we had was excellent, and we couldn't have picked a better place for our last night in Venice. As the night went on the place got very crowded and I can surely understand why. Don't let this place pass you by. You will not be disappointed.

Friendly family owned establishment, great service, the food was delicious, and people watching on the passing sidewalk is fun.

My daughter and I ate dinner here tonight. We got the Pasta Alla Norma and the Meatballs. Both were delicious! We shared our food and definitely eat the pasta before the meatballs. The meatballs have a stronger sauce on them so you need a palate cleanser before eating the Pasta Alla Norma after the meatballs. For dessert we got cannolis and they were wonderful as well! I've been disappointed at the cannolis in Italy so far and was searching for some really delicious ones. I FOUND THEM HERE!:)

Located on a quiet Calle in beautiful Venice, Bacarretto Bistrot offers warm service and delicious food, in an inviting space. Our group of eight ordered a variety of appetizers, pastas, desserts and drinks. The standout for me, was the homemade Tiramisu, cannoli, and an amaretto spritz - which the owner, Marco, made for me personally. The Mr's favorite was the carbonara with smoked tuna. In addition to great food, we were treated to excellent conversation with Marco. As a retired teacher, I appreciated his love of the children he tutors, and the beautiful children's art that decorated the restaurant. Bacarretto Bistrot was one of my favorite dining experiences in Venice.

Bacarretto in Venice, owners from Sicily was amazing! The service was friendly and the place had a cozy feel with kids drawings, and music vibes choice was perfect . I ordered the daily pasta and it was super fresh and full of flavor. I would definitely come back again!!!

The restaurant is off the beaten path, which was a plus for us. It was actually right next to our AirBnb! The owner made space for us even though we didn't have a reservation and served us very quickly. The food itself was tasty and fresh. The pasta was cooked to a nice Al dente. The sauces were fresh, light, and simple. The shrimp were over cooked which is something I'd usually take a star off for (plus that might be how the dish is traditionally made?), but the host/owner was so warm and accommodating that I had to give them a 5/5. The food was overall great though, don't get me wrong.

Marco is a culinary genius! Bacarretto is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Italy, and the fact that it's Silician food in Venice is special. He started this place in 2015. It's a beautiful story--ask him about it and why there are drawings posted on the ceiling. I came in by myself, a little shy about my lack of Italian, but Marco speaks excellent English. I can't believe I ate so much food here. In addition to a few glasses of wine, Marco brought me a platter of mozzarella and proscuitto atop lettuce and drizzled with a mouthwatering dressing. Great appetizer that preceded my main course of linguine and shrimp with an almond and wildfennel pesto. One of the best dishes I've ever eaten in my LIFE. The food at Bacarretto brings people together--local families as well as visitors passing through. It's a small rotating menu, but everything is fresh and delicious. Marco is also active on Instagram so check out what's cooking. Definitely not a substitute for stopping by and receiving royal Silician treatment, though. I'd give this 6 out of 5 stars if I could!

My wife and I were traveling to Venice in April 2024. We found Bacaretto on Yelp with a 4.9 stars rating and decided we have to try it. My wife messaged Marco the owner through What'sApp for a 6:30 pm reservation and he confirmed in a few minutes. We were seated right away upon getting to the restaurant at 6:30. We ordered the Sicilian fried platter, pasta al forno and smoked tuna with Burrata cheese. Everything was really good. The pasta was cooked al dente and the bolognese was flavorful. For dessert we had the cannoli with pistachios. The pistachios were not in the menu but Marco just added it in because we asked for it. The cannoli was really good with a lot of ricotta cheese. Marco took the time to talk to his customers. He even remembered my name from the reservation. I definitely recommend this restaurant when you're in Venice. Thank you Marco!

BEST DINNER YET!! When you hear people talk about eating in Italy, this is what they are talking about!! Italy is not just spaghetti & pizza. It is so much more. If you are ever in Venice, go see Marco. The food was unbelievable. From the starter to the dessert, there wasn't a bad bite. If I could could give this 10 stars I would!!! Service is slower than we expected in USA. I suggest you relax and enjoy the delicious meal.

The owner made us feel like family.

Tried this spot and it was one of the highlights of Venice. The service was top notch and our pasta was delicious. Loved the children's drawings hung as art around the dining room.

Phenomenonal restaurant, owned by a man from Sicily, whose sister is the chef. Absolutely amazing! Small place, personalized service by the owner who treats you like family. A highlight of our time in Venice!

We walked five miles round trip to eat here and it was worth every step. We've been in Italy for a bit and have been slightly disappointed by the food we'd eaten. But then we found this place. Easily the best meal we've had while visiting and probably a top 5 meal in my lifetime. The owner and his family are incredibly fun to talk to and so proud of their food. And rightly so. The cannoli was fresh and made to order with candied citrus and dark chocolate. The roast beef was served cold (it's supposed to be) with tomatoes and the freshest burrata I've ever had. The pasta Al Norma had this incredible basil sauce drizzled on it. I just can't say enough good stuff about it. Thank you for sharing your food with us.

    Excellent!

Not as good and missing the trademark basil that could have made it better. Also the margherita was supposed to be thin crust but wasn't crispy at all... Kind of limp bit it was only 3.50€ so no biggie. This is definitely a step up from the ubiquitous "to-go" pizza slice traps you see all over Venice that serves sub-par pizza catering to exhausted tourists who don't know better. My tip is just go for the cheapie 1€ slices. They have lots of combos... Zucchini, sausage, garlic marinara, potato (yes, it's like thin sliced potato chips on a pizza! Drool!), etc... Come hungry and come early bc they can get busy. Hours: 11am- 2pm, then 5pm-9pm

To be…read morehonest, we weren't that hungry but I saw this place on Google Maps when I was checking out the area where we were staying (Palazzo Venezia is our hotel in Dorsoduro). The menu looked great and it was in the opposite direction of the tourist area. We talked with the hotel concierge and he said it's best to have reservations but that lunch is a little easier just to walk in. We arrived around 12:30 and asked if they could accommodate us and the server was friendly and happy to seat us at a two-top at the back of the restaurant. It was a perfect viewpoint for good people watching. Speaking of people watch... it's clear this is a locals place. The restaurant probably has 10 or so tables. When we arrived there were just a few tables empty and the tables that were there were enjoying life with wine and a multi-course meal. There was a woman I admired because she was eating by herself and thoroughly enjoying it, she clearly knew the entire staff ( they kept coming to visit), she had her dog with her and was taking her time to savor the meal and her bottle of wine. Anyway, back to the food. My husband ordered a Campari spritz and I got a glass of their house white. It was so good I had a second glass! We ordered the beef roll to share. It was braised beef with Parma ham or some kind of cured ham in the middle. It was braised until it was tender in a marinara/tomato sauce. Yum! My husband ordered rigatoni with octopuses with a kind of basil pesto and it was great. He also ordered roasted potatoes. Hr just wanted it I guess but they were good and cooked perfectly. I ordered the pasta with artichokes and bottarga. It was superb. It had a lemon sauce that was rich and delicious. I forgot to mention they serve a bread basket with these crispy cracker-type things that were great. I could taste anise seeds in them. They also served a crusty bread. At the end the friendly server offered dessert. I had no room. We opted for espresso to help digest. Our bill ended up being $111 euros. We will likely make a dinner reservation and return but the concierge said there are more than 400 restaurants in Venice. We have a lot of options on our list but this is worth a second visit.
