I called a number of people who were just outrageous in their price and seemed really not to understand the 'quirks' of an older home (mine is over 100 years old) or what I meant by "servicing" (maintaining!). If you have a gas furnace or water heater, this is the man. His family has been doing heating and plumbing for 3 generations, and guarantees his work. He came over, bled my radiators, checked them, topped off the heating system, oiled my heat pump, cleaned the base of the chimney, cleaned the system, and tested the fire. All of my service was under $100...but I know it ranges depending on what you have done. I just wanted to keep up with it, so I don't have repairs later. Others who were less knowledgeable wanted to charge upwards to $300. He also let me know about the condition of my water heater, and signs that it would need replaced if it gets to that point...so I learned a little as well. He said my heater was old, but in good condition - so no rip off, not trying to upsell me, and seemed fair. He's kind of an old-school tradesman, and knows his craft very well. He's literally been doing this with his father since he was a boy, and he's helped me with minor things before - all with solid results.

The quote was free and surprisingly there was no trip charge either. Being a Saturday, they could not obtain a replacement for my faulty shower handle cartridge, but they did temorarily disable the cartridge until it could be replaced the following Monday. I had called another company out the previous day, but they left with the faulty cartridge still leaking. So I appreciated that Roto-Rooter made the extra effort to disable the cartridge. They finished the job the following Monday on time and efficiently. I will not hesitate to use them again for my plumbing needs.

We called EMCO Tech for an Emergency Oil furnace repair the customer service is excellent. The…read morereceptionist was friendly and professional. They were able to send out a tech the same day (mind you it was a very cold day and we had no heat or hot water). First tech that came out didn't really seem to know what they were doing, couldn't find the fault after an hour. But the backup senior tech (Serge) arrived and was able to troubleshoot and found the issue within 5 minutes. Turns out we needed a new Oil burner controller, he replaced it right away and was able to get our unit up and running in no time. At the same time suggested we get our oil furnace cleaned up (did a great job) as well as the clean up job afterwards, we didn't even need to vacuum the carpet ourselves. Since he did a great job, we accepted 2 more maintenance job from them (Installing a new damper and oil filter unit). And again they sent out someone new, that eventually needed Serge to come out and finish the job properly. Mind you the interaction with Receptionist (Especially Helen) was always very pleasant and accommodating. I would recommend them to friends/family for any sort of Heating/Cooling repairs and maintenance (As long as Serge is around at least).
