The car came with a 30 day, 1000 mile warranty from the dealership as well - it was nice that they actually stick behind the cars they sell. It was a certified vehicle, and we had a trade-in. Like many people who make a major vehicle purchase, we later questioned whether we had paid more than we should have. But we accepted our decision and continued doing business with McGrath, including having them perform routine maintenance and oil changes. Unfortunately, our recent experience has completely changed our opinion of this dealership. We recently developed a problem with our truck. My husband is a mechanic himself, but because today's diesel systems are considerably more complicated than they once were, he felt it was best to have a qualified diesel technician diagnose the problem. We took the truck to McGrath and were told they would put it on their computer and determine what was wrong. After keeping the truck for a couple of days, McGrath told us the problem was an injector and connector and estimated the repair at approximately $4,000. We were shocked. Rather than authorize a $4,000 repair, we decided to investigate further and get a second opinion. We picked up our truck from McGrath and were charged nearly $400 for the diagnostic work. Here's where this experience became particularly disturbing. We took the truck to another certified diesel mechanic and explained McGrath's diagnosis. After examining the truck, he told us he did not believe the injector or connector was the problem and suspected the wiring harness. We left the truck with him this week. He was right. The problem was the wiring harness, not the injector and connector. The truck was repaired for approximately $500, and it is now running perfectly. So let's look at the numbers: McGrath's diagnosis: Injector + connector McGrath's estimate: Approximately $4,000 McGrath's diagnostic charge: Nearly $400 Actual problem: Wiring harness Actual repair cost: Approximately $500 Result: Truck running perfectly That's not a small difference. That's a $3,500+ difference in the proposed repair, based on a diagnosis that turned out to be wrong. We understand that diagnosing mechanical problems isn't always an exact science and that technicians can occasionally be wrong. What we cannot accept is being presented with a nearly $4,000 repair based on an incorrect diagnosis, and then being charged nearly $400 for that diagnosis. After years of doing business with McGrath, this experience has completely destroyed our confidence in their service department. We went there expecting professional, honest, competent service. Instead, we left feeling like we needed to protect ourselves by getting a second opinion and, thankfully, we did. Had we simply trusted the diagnosis and authorized the repair, we could have spent thousands of dollars repairing something that wasn't even the problem. That is unacceptable to us. We will not be taking our truck back to McGrath for service. And based on what happened to us, we strongly encourage anyone facing an expensive repair estimate to get a second opinion before authorizing the work. We aren't writing this because we are unhappy about spending money on our truck. We understand vehicles require maintenance and repairs. We're writing this because we paid nearly $400 for a diagnosis that was wrong, were given an approximately $4,000 repair estimate based on that diagnosis, and another qualified diesel mechanic found and repaired the actual problem for about $500. On the website you can enter a price as an offer. I entered the price of $19,000. This was a little low but I was hoping we could negotiate. A coworker recommended this place to me. I visited the dealership and was late due to the construction (they didn't tell me!). I was given a salesperson who did not know anything about a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited! What's the horsepower? "Um, don't know, I'll have to ask" Is there hill descent control? Is there hill start assist? What is the engine? What are the tires? "Um, I'll have to get back with you about that". The guy was nice and there was no pressure. But really, he couldn't answer any of my questions. I told him about my price offer and that I had done research and thought it was pretty reasonable since the car is not new but used and there are better offers in in the area. He asked me if there were any other cars I was interested in. I said a Subaru Forester. He said he would go look and see if they had any on their other lots. He disappeared for some time and then returned with the manager. The manager told me there was no way I could get a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited anywhere around here for $19k. He said he looked at all of McGrath's lots and there was just no way. He showed me some computer paper which had a price of $25k which he said was the price they bought the car. Are you kidding me! What a bunch of malarkey! He said he would go down $500 but no more. Well, I thanked him for his time and walked out the store. I never did get the info on the Subaru or any of my Wrangler questions answered. It's probably for the best since I doubt the salesperson I was with knew anything about a Subaru either. They should have just told me they couldn't meet my price instead of wasting my time. The whole time I was waiting for the salesperson to find out about the Subaru, they were in the researching if there were any Jeep Unlimiteds for $19k? Really?! Why didn't they just come out and tell me straight up they couldn't meet my price but they could help me find another car? Instead they made me look like I was a liar! I guess it's okay for the salesperson to lie but if a customer is lying, then the management will spend 30 minutes doing research to find out if the customer is lying. Iowa is not a good place to buy a Jeep since they are overpriced here due to their popularity. Chicago is the best place to go to find a fair price. It's not as popular since most urbanites want a fuel efficient car. This experience left me really bad impressions of McGraths and Jeep. Only go here if you want a car that is overpriced and you are not willing (too lazy) to go to Chicago for a fair price.

I bought 2 vehicles from them and because one was a lemon and had multiple repairs under warranty and others that were supposed to be under warranty, but they said that part was not covered. I went in to see why they canceled multiple times for a repair I needed and when I was there they reccomended I should go to the Audi dealer instead. As I was driving to the Audi dealer I received a phone call from the general manager saying that I am always mad and he Milo get wants me to come to the business. And he was calling to make sure I did not write a bad review or as he said blow them up online. I explained that they have been trying to fix the same issues multiple times and that is why I am in a bad mood. So a couple months have gone by and I did not write any reviews but I am now because I was having work done at the neighboring mechanic shop and they noticed I was missing a lug nut They said to go next door to euro and buy one. I went o er there and the manager came out and said he would not sell me a lug nut and told me to go somewhere else. Said he does not want to do business with me. So my families safety was definitely not a concern for him. This used to be a good company but the new manager is not a good person. I will add that the service manager D.J. is a great person and the only reason I have stayed doing business with them this long and bought a second vehicle. I trust D.J. and believe he tried to do the best he could with what the company allowed. Based on the general managers demeanor, and just friendliness and professionalism I would NOT recommend this company anymore.
