Nice park. This is where our Turkey Trot for the City of Commerce was held. I know there is a swimming facility that I did not get a picture of. There were lots of kids playing in park when I was there. No tennis courts though.

I only found myself here because the eldest kid had a swim meet at the aquatics center in the park. But since going to a swim meet means hours of sitting around... And considering I had the other two kids with me, we had a chance to explore the entire park. The park is in a quiet neighborhood across the street from an elementary school. It features picnic and barbecue areas, a softball field, a basketball court, and playground equipment/structures for little kids and bigger kids. On a quiet Sunday morning, we pretty much have the place to ourselves, save for the swim meet people. Ample picnic tables, seating, and open grassy areas make this a pretty nice little park in the middle of a city I don't frequent.

Good shade over the playground - no burning hot slides! 3/12/16

Based on its community profile alone, Commerce is one of those cities that you don't exactly think of as "community oriented." Or do you? After a visit to Rosewood Park, I realize now that the City of Commerce does a spectacular job of maintaining the interests of its community members. Look around! This park has appeal... it didn't have to post a nude Twitter photo to prove it either. Ha! PROS - parking all around - & plenty of it - softball field (I played in college so how could I not notice it?!) - playgrounds with shade & baby swings - basketball courts - large grassy areas - other facilities like the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center (which has a gym) & also a library nearby - mostly clean with numerous trash cans around - they offer programs, classes & too much more to list My family and I initially visited on a Saturday afternoon (3/12/16) with a good crowd. The only problem we had was when two young boys were not playing nice. One even pushed our 1-year-old, but I addressed that tactfully. I'm sure if his parent/guardian was right there it would have never happened. OVERVIEW OF THE CITY Apparently, Commerce is known as the "Model City" (at least according to their official website). I'm starting to believe it. Especially when I visit this park. And also when I learn that the City has allocated grant money for low-income households "to conduct code compliant home repairs." http://www.ci.commerce.ca.us AND... SAFETY An individual posted a tip about the overall safety surrounding this park. He said, "Not sure if this is a safe park. [Too] many cops cruise around the block." Seems like bass-ackward logic to me, but... City hall is nearby. Keep that in mind. Also... In general, there are more property crimes (burglaries, theft, grand theft auto, etc.) than violent crimes in Commerce. Roughly about 13,000 people reside there. More residents rent their homes compared to the number that own. The majority of businesses are wholesale, retail, and manufacturers. The ultimate draw is the low taxes. Okay, now I realize that I should be writing this for the City of Commerce instead of Rosewood Park, but they go hand-in-hand. Check out the playground if you're already in the area. There is a section for younger kids and one for the the bigger kiddos. Both areas have the rubber surfacing with lots of shade. Review #455 '16 Challenge #18

There are plenty of chairs, and tables (with shade!) I did see that there was a library.

My entire month of July was spent here with my community, and I loved every single minute of it.The concerts start at 7:00 p.m., but I was always the first one there since I live the closest. I'd show up with my folding chairs, claim a big spot, spread out blankets, and save plenty of room for everyone. Then I'd wait for my friends to arrive. You know the evening is officially about to begin when they play Downey's official city song! I had no idea Downey even had a song, but it's absolutely adorable and always puts everyone in a great mood. Our final concert was extra special--we had a grand total of 22 people at our little gathering! Every week turned into a giant community potluck with everyone bringing something delicious to share. One weekend my friends even surprised me with a birthday party, complete with a decorated table and cake. It made me feel so loved, and it's a memory I'll treasure forever. There's something so peaceful about sitting on a blanket, listening to live music, chatting with friends, and watching the sun slowly set over the park. It's a reminder that some of the best nights don't have to be expensive--they just need good people and good music. The concession stand offered the basics--hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pie, and drinks. I do wish there were a few more food options, but maybe that's something they can expand on next year. Before the concerts, there were booths from local businesses like Lazy Dog, the Downey Theatre, dental offices, and other community organizations offering fun giveaways, games, and raffle prizes. We never won the raffle tree, but we sure had fun trying every week! One of my favorite parts was running into so many familiar faces. It truly felt like the entire community came together to enjoy summer evenings at the park. The only downside? July is over way too fast! I wish the concert series lasted longer because one month just isn't enough.Thank you to everyone who makes these concerts happen each year. Until next summer...

GRP features two lighted baseball fields, picnic facilities, restrooms, lighted tennis/pickleball courts, children's playground, a community room, museum and observatory and measures approximately 18 acres. Quite huge park, but you wouldn't know it from first glance. Very clean and well kept. Two parking lots are available. East side of the park on Orange Ave is where you'll find the picnic shelters, larger playground, community room, historical museum, basketball courts and observatory. West side of the park on Alhambra Ave is closer to the smaller playground and larger baseball diamond. As for the 1 full tennis and 1 full tennis + 4 pickleball shared courts, they are located on Orange Ave near the intersection of Orange Ave and Metro Dr. If you're coming from the north on Orange Ave, drive past the entrance of the park and go up the hill just a bit. The courts will be on your right. Very small parking lot in front of the courts. Street parking is also available. Lighted courts are first come first serve. For pickleball, permanent lines are available, but you'll have to bring your own net (BYON). If you plan to bring food/drinks, be careful of ants. They will find them LOL. Our work group had so much fun. We met some new pickleballer friends as well. Definitely a great place to play some amazing pickleball. Thank you GRP!
