Entertainment: The park has a little bit of everything for all ages. Tennis courts, pickleball courts, basketball courts, kids playground, swimming pool, outdoor gym, and skate park. I returned with my full safety gear and helmet and 10.75" skateboard. The area with the skatepark was deserted except for people playing pickleball. The skatepark is set up for street skating, with banks, steps, and rails. There is a half pipe in the back. The halfpipe was intimidating 20 years ago, and I don't think I tired it. I remembered the skatepark differently. I think there was a small bowl near the entrance, but I could not find evidence of it. Does anyone know if the skatepark was remodeled within the last twenty years?

The staff here is very friendly and makes for a good environment for the kids. They also have trips that you can participate in for a small fee. I think this next week is a trip to the movies for only $2... Can't beat that!!! My son has just begun playing sports at this park and really enjoys it. In comparison to other leagues and rec group the cost of their programs are very low. I will continue to keep my son here year round and look forward to the seasons to come.

My entire month of July was spent here with my community, and I loved every single minute of it.The concerts start at 7:00 p.m., but I was always the first one there since I live the closest. I'd show up with my folding chairs, claim a big spot, spread out blankets, and save plenty of room for everyone. Then I'd wait for my friends to arrive. You know the evening is officially about to begin when they play Downey's official city song! I had no idea Downey even had a song, but it's absolutely adorable and always puts everyone in a great mood.Our final concert was extra special--we had a grand total of 22 people at our little gathering! Every week turned into a giant community potluck with everyone bringing something delicious to share. One weekend my friends even surprised me with a birthday party, complete with a decorated table and cake. It made me feel so loved, and it's a memory I'll treasure forever.There's something so peaceful about sitting on a blanket, listening to live music, chatting with friends, and watching the sun slowly set over the park. It's a reminder that some of the best nights don't have to be expensive--they just need good people and good music.The concession stand offered the basics--hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pie, and drinks. I do wish there were a few more food options, but maybe that's something they can expand on next year. Before the concerts, there were booths from local businesses like Lazy Dog, the Downey Theatre, dental offices, and other community organizations offering fun giveaways, games, and raffle prizes. We never won the raffle tree, but we sure had fun trying every week!One of my favorite parts was running into so many familiar faces. It truly felt like the entire community came together to enjoy summer evenings at the park.The only downside? July is over way too fast! The day I paid a visit it had just rained a bit in the afternoon then cleared out for the rest of the evening. Up above this hillcrest on any given day I suspect would be ideal for watching the sunset or perhaps flying a kite. There was a consistent light breeze which felt refreshing, free from the congested traffic down below. Among the offerings include a baseball field, a modern jungle gym, basketball courts, and tennis courts. Specifically, tennis takes priority over pickleball. Further up the hill there's a small Japanese garden with a gazebo which while a bit worn out has a lot of charm. Street parking was plentiful and it never got really crowded. One thing I noticed was that my mobile network became somewhat spotty, but 'tis a minor inconvenience. If I'm free, I'd love to visit more often.

GRP features two lighted baseball fields, picnic facilities, restrooms, lighted tennis/pickleball courts, children's playground, a community room, museum and observatory and measures approximately 18 acres. Quite huge park, but you wouldn't know it from first glance. Very clean and well kept. Two parking lots are available. East side of the park on Orange Ave is where you'll find the picnic shelters, larger playground, community room, historical museum, basketball courts and observatory. West side of the park on Alhambra Ave is closer to the smaller playground and larger baseball diamond. As for the 1 full tennis and 1 full tennis + 4 pickleball shared courts, they are located on Orange Ave near the intersection of Orange Ave and Metro Dr. If you're coming from the north on Orange Ave, drive past the entrance of the park and go up the hill just a bit. The courts will be on your right. Very small parking lot in front of the courts. Street parking is also available. Lighted courts are first come first serve. For pickleball, permanent lines are available, but you'll have to bring your own net (BYON). If you plan to bring food/drinks, be careful of ants. They will find them LOL. Our work group had so much fun. We met some new pickleballer friends as well. Definitely a great place to play some amazing pickleball. Thank you GRP!
