The guys behind the pizza

They say since 1975 My first time. Overall good Large selection of Pizzas I had square grandmas Upside down The sauce and cheese combo was tasty My thought was that the crust was overcooked some as I prefer a softer base To the pizza The Rosas staff were friendly overall But would return again

I was already done with dinner. Then was asked by a friend if I wanted to try their favorite local pizza joint. Who in their right mind would say no? Of COURSE I WANT TO TRY YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL PIZZA JOINT. This place is what I think of when I want a slice of New York in my belly. Go try it.

Cheese & Sicilian Pizza. SATISFACTORY. Preferred the Cheese Slice over the Sicilian Slice 'cause it was more flavorful with the emphasis being on the Cheese taste. The Sicilian Slice tasted more like Bread with Tomato Sauce and the Cheese flavor seemed nonexistent. Thought the Cheese Slice was larger where you got more Bang For Your Buck. I would come to ROSA'S for the Cheese Slice and skip the Sicilian Slice. RECOMMEND.

While I would still give the upper nod to the Maspeth and Ridgewood locations, Rosa's of Astoria is certainly no slouch in the pizza game. Given the expansion of the Rosa's empire, I am actually really jonseying for one to open closer to me. If I still lived in Astoria, I'd be very pleased to patronize this location often. And yet, I still find myself here more often than not. 21st is not riddled with great eateries, so when I'm in the area and it's late and I'm hungry (#1), I'll knock out a couple of slices when I get a chance. Unlike the other locations which look like they're stuck the 80s (#2), this location is the newest, hence it's updated with lots of seating, an open kitchen, and a TV playing in the background. Who doesn't love Rosa's signature inside-out sicilian? While I still love the slices, I find it to be just a tad saltier than the ones I'm used to. Grandma slice is also quality and I could get down with the ravioli or margherita anytime. And like any good pizza, this stuff is still rock solid when eaten at room temperature. The guys who are behind the counter are friendly and courteous. They are really good with the delivery and are fast about getting slices out to folks. One advantage the Astoria branch has is that it takes credit cards, which is a big win. I'll keep coming here as long as they keep serving pizza, which I hope is for many years to come. ____________ (#1) Which happens a little *too* often. (#2) That is a compliment. Really.

They offer a lot of good looking pizzas and sandwiches. I ordered a plain cheese slice and it was really a very generous size slice. It had just the right ratio of sauce and cheese plus their crust was light and crunchy. Next time I am definitely taking a sandwich home.

Pizza

I ordered a pizza and they gave me whatever this amalgamation of ingredients this is. $30 too. As a customer I feel insulted. You want good pizza in Astoria go to Andrew belluccis. Staff was friendly at least.

Good pizza with fun toppings. A lot of variety. Food: I usually get there ravioli slice which is really great but super heavy, so only eat it if you are really hungry. The vegetable slice is great and veggie packed. The spinach ricotta slice is not my favorite Bc the spinach tastes raw. The baked ziti was ok, wouldn't order again. Price: reasonable prices - regular slice is $3 Service: quick friendly service Ambiance: done outside seating but no heated seating. More of a takeout place until indoor seating opens

yuuummy Chicken Roll & Grandma Pie Large 18"

I go back with Rosa's Pizza to my high school days in early 2000s on Metropolitan Ave, and now the one in Astoria. The review is for both locations as my experience has been very good with both. The pizza slices are big, cheesy, greasy and delicious. My go-to's are the chicken and tomato, garlic knots, grandma's, and chicken rolls. The slices are very flavorful and have enough wetness and crisp in them that every crunch feels like you're being filmed on a pizza tv commercial. Last time I ordered the 9 slice grandma's pie, I ate 7 slices in one sitting. Worth it. But hopefully you get the point of how delicious their food is. The only downside I have is that doing cardio to burn it off requires alot of effort, but I'll handle it. Anyway, if you're looking for good delicious pizza thats been around for longer than most people in this App gives Rosa's a try. You wont regret your decision.

There was overlap in terms of this place. Seeing as how I have a good wood fired artisan pizza place in my job this should be decent I said to myself. As I enter I'm greeted immediately with a smile by what seemed like the day manager. As I'm sat down and poured my water I almost am already convinced which pizza I want but I look through just to read the nice lists of ingredients and picture each pie mentally. I ordered this nice pie with sausage and grano padano and notice I can add certain toppings. I chose egg because why not make it a pizza brunch? Pizza comes quick and hot. Tastes delightfully sweet and the char adds personality. The place is nice and rustic, warm and inviting btw. I appreciate the runner/busser as they operated as I would( I am one myself). They were quick and efficient in turning the table that just left, making sure he cleans the table in the same motion. The sunlight revealed a dirty table next to me so not all is perfect there. All in all though a tasty and pleasant experience. I would come back with friends to try more food and do a little day drinking. Nice spot in a cozy area of Astoria. Would recommend.

And love that this place isn't far from my home. They have a few options for vegan toppings in addition to the vegan cheese, so I got the vegan pepperoni (and the employee working there let me read the ingredients to make sure it was gluten-free, and it was). I was also able to do a no-sauce pizza since I can't do tomato sauce anymore. Perhaps some sauce would have made the crust less hard and crunchy, but while delicious, my pizza was hard and crunchy. Even the cute little branded pizza cutter that came with my pizza had a hard time making slices. But it was tasty and satisfied my craving for pizza. Nowhere near the best vegan gluten-free pizza I've ever had but it'll do the job well enough. And it's a little pricey but it's specialty ingredients, I suppose. Not something I'd get on a regular basis but maybe on special occasions.

While deciding where to go one day, this was suggested and im so glad I went. The restaurant is cozy with tables inside the main dining room and in an enclosed outdoor seating area. Im guessing it opens in the summer. I sat down with my niece while waiting for my sister and for a good 5-7 minutes, no one stopped by and gave a menu nor offered water. Finally after about 3 people walked by not saying anything, someone came. The area is not that big and 7 minutes isnt that long but to sit there any not be addressed by all the staff walking by was annoying. Finally my sister came and we were offered water and a menu. After hearing about the specials and asking for recommendations, we settled on the gnocchi (housemade potato gnocchi, burrata, peas, pesto sauce, toasted pine nuts), Pappardelle alla Bolognese (housemade ribbon pasta, meat sauce), and side of sautéed spinach. The food arrived and we were pleasantly delightful by the main. The gnocchi was so soft and creamy, the sauce was delicious. Im not a fan of gnocchi but this was so good. The papardelle was my meal and it was also so good. There was a lot of pasta and a good amount of meat sauce. It was also delicious. The spinach on the other hand was bland. It has no flavor and we had to add some salt. A few times we tried to call someone over to our table but felt like no one was paying attention. When we were done with our meals, my sister had a few pieces of gnocchi left. She asked for a box as it was to be my nieces lunch for tomorrow. I then said, can you also box up the spinach. A few minutes later, the server dropped off a bag with one container and said here's the spinach. We tried to call his attention but he was already walking away. Where was the gnocchi. Finally when we came back, we asked about it and he said oh I thought it was garbage. I said no we asked for it to be boxed. He said let me talk to the kitchen. He came back and said sorry, they cant do anything but one dessert will be on me. I guess thats fine but we more wanted the food for the baby. For dessert we ordered a tiramisu and pistachio gelato. The tiramisu was in a jar as opposed to a cake slice. One bite of the ice cream and I knew it was bad. It was grainy and sandy texture. I looked up why that would be and one reason stated it could be improper storage, like it was unfrozen or melted then refrozen. I wasn't chancing that. I told the server and said I couldn't eat it. He offered another dessert but I said know, then offered a limoncello shot. While I appreciate the offer, we weren't drinking before so that wasn't the best option to offer. I just said im fine without a replacement. When we got the bill, the dessert was taken off like he said he would. We paid and left. Overall the main course/pasta meals were delicious. The sides and desserts could use work. Service was alright. Id definitely come back for the food and to try some of the pizza.

This was basically an eggplant parm and the eggplant was cooked perfectly, the cheese was ok but the sauce made this dish really tasty with the nice homemade focaccia they give you in the beginning. Branzino Special with Cannelli Beans and Swiss Chard. This was the winner of the evening. The cripsy skin was amazing. The fish was cooked to perfection, the cannelli beans I thought were going to be weird but it added a nice creaminess to the fish. Lastly the swiss chard was crunchy on the ends and nice and tender on the leaf. This should be put on the regular menu. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=xNVfJCmf89OOY-1ME3FY7Q Controfiletto- grilled prime angus N.Y. strip steak served with roasted marble potatoes. I hate to say it but as good as the steak was, the roasted potatoes was the star of show. The potatoes were amazing. Pappardelle alla Bolognese- housemade ribbon pasta, meat sauce. This was good but came off a bit plain. The pasta was homemade but it was almost to a fault since the pasta came out too soft. The flavors were good but I felt this would have been a better, reheated the next day kind of dish.

Our server was very attentive, friendly, and on top of everything throughout the meal. No complaints there at all. As for the food, it was honestly very lackluster. The best thing we had all night was the small original pizza, which I actually really enjoyed. The crust and flavor on that were solid. Unfortunately, the spaghetti with marinara sauce was a huge disappointment. At $22 just for the pasta, plus an additional $4 for ONE meatball, I expected so much more. It ended up being a $26 plate of pasta that, in my opinion, had almost no flavor. I kept wanting seasoning, salt, garlic -- something to make it stand out. It was just very bland. My husband ordered the polenta starter with shiitake mushrooms and bolognese sauce, which was okay, but nothing memorable. For the three food items, one cappuccino, and a sparkling water, the bill came to about $110 with tip. For that price point, I expected to leave impressed, especially after hearing the hype. Sadly, this just wasn't a place I'd personally return to. I truly wanted to enjoy it more.
