Went here on a late Saturday afternoon and stayed here for dinner. They had a strong beer selection and decent pub food menu. I was with a large party so we opted for a bunch of apps and I didn't sample anything I didn't like. Service was quick and friendly. The place was pretty empty when we started and got busier through out the evening but this didn't impact service. It had more of a neighborhood bar feel than some Federal Hill however we left before the potential club crowd would have arrived. I'd return given the option. read more

Overrated. Don't get food here; below average compared to every other place in Federal Hill. Better off going to Abbey burger two blocks away. Bouncers and 'security' are on a power trip. When paying 31$ for 5 beers you would think they would be classy but are more like thugs. Clientele are as others described it: frat boys. And that is typical federal hill crowd so not a plus or minus. One star is for the piano man that plays there every week! read more

Went for wing night. Ran in to Trixxy the server, and boy did she have some tricks up her sleeve for us. After eating 20+ wings I asked it if would be possible to order another round and box up what I could not eat. Her reply "YES OF COARSE" . The problem however was when I asked for the box, as I could not eat the wings and she told me it was no longer an option to get a box. I was confused and and as I looked for clarification she proceeded to yell at me telling that I had to eat "At least 3 or 4 more" if I wanted a box. It was no joke at all. She was dead serious. Thankfully the owner was nearby and understood Trixys lack of good service and made the situation right. A thank you is in order to the owner. Overall service was efficient but certainly below average, and have never been engaged in such elusive service practices in any bar or restaurant. I would return, only because I believe the poor service was a result of only one person in the building, and the wings were good. read more

Trust But Verify This is known around town as the Reagan Bar. The menu changed recently and not for better. Also the portions are now smaller. Still, I like the atmosphere. But not enough to continue going. The special for Thursday is listed as $8 for a Crab Cake Entrée or sandwich. The menu lists a Crab Cake Entrée and a Sandwich section. So, I ordered a roast beef sandwich but was billed full price. When I asked, I was told the Sandwich special only applies to the Crab Cake sandwich. I replied that the menu doesn't include a Crab Cake sandwich. The response, it's not listed. read more

I was there with a group of friends a couple nights ago and one of my friends had to much to drink so he went outside to wait for our ride home. He asked me to get him a water. So I tried to get to the bar. Now this was a Thursday night but the bar was packed. There were only 2 slow moving bartenders. In order to get a water for my friend I had to push through a bunch of people. One guy already had his drinks but the fact that I was trying to get to the bar quickly to get water for my friend offended him sooooo much that he kept telling me to get out and threatening to beat me up. So what did the bartender do you ask? he refused to serve me water for me friend and told me to get out of the bar. The guy at the door also saw my friend who was in definite distress and did nothing. My friend ended up in the ER for the night. So in short wanna go to a bar where you get kicked out for needing water for your friend who ends up having alcohol poisoning? if so then this is the place for you! read more

Meh, Asian Bouncers a real dick... I've been there twice and both times had him tell me I couldn't sit somewhere or be in a certain area of the bar after I had already been told by another bartender/server that it was alright. The last time I was there I started a tab with my card and paid in cash at the end of the night, but found out later that my card got charged anyway. On Halloween the scary side of Ropewalk appeared. Having lived here, in Federal Hill, for nearly three years, I have dined at Ropewalk, I have partied at Ropewalk, but never have I feel disrespected at Ropewalk until October 31st. After deciding to be a part of the bar crawl, or lack there of, I pushed through the crowds and waited patiently to get to the bar on the second floor. It was a rough journey with all sorts of characters on the way; however the true star of the show was about to transform. Me: "Could I have two Reds?" (one of the three specials with the bar crawl exclusive wristband that gave me access to somewhere i could go to for free on any other night.) Bar King: "We're outa them." Me: "Oh, ok. Two blue Moons." Bar King: "We're outa them." Me: "Two out of the three specials?" BK: "Yes, Let me get you a Shocktop." Moves to pull the tap, nothing comes out. "We're outa Shocktop. I'll go get you another." Crosses the bar and returns with said beer and puts a something Lite on the bar. "I'll give them to you for half price, $6." Me: "I didn't ask for either of those beers. You are out of what we thought were the specials for paying to be here. (let's not get into that fact. And you are charging me for these." BK: "You're not going to pay for your drinks?" Me: " I didn't order them." BK: Proceeds to hastily throw the bottles into the trash can. We then walked away but as we were heading down the stairs, we were intercepted by BK coming up the stairs with security and said, "These two gotta go." When we asked for why? He said "You have to pay for your drinks." Customer service is a skill. While a traditional thought, we as a society should maintain some sort of respect or appreciation for our customers. I have heard that BK is the owner of Ropewalk's brother, but that is not here nor there. Ropewalk, it's been real, but it's no longer fun. read more

We watch Nebraska college football games here with other Husker fans. We take over the 3rd floor, and one bartender takes care of all drinks and runs food for 15-30 fans during the entire game. Fantastic service! Best sweet potato fries I've ever tasted - we ask for them extra crispy, and they deliver. All of the tacos are fresh and tasty, and the nachos with pulled pork was proportions in perfection of chips, pork, cheese, tomatoes and FRESH jalapeños! You don't pay for updated ambience, but these are good peeps! read more

I used to really love Ropewalk, but they've kinda failed to evolve and have settled in as just another Fed Hill frat bar. They purport to have a large selection of beer, but it's pretty tired and hasn't changed in years, possibly decades. Even the bottles. The thing that really earned it a low rating for me though was that they seem to have stopped cleaning their draft lines. Almost all the beer comes out completely headless, lifeless and kinda flat. But one actually came out tasting like spoiled sour cream. We actually asked for something different, which I'm usually loathe to do, but it was disgusting. Perhaps the McFaul bar empire has expanded too far, but this is a neat space, it's sad to see it going downhill. read more

Frankly, I've been going to this restaurant for their 35 cents wings specials on Tuesday, since it's one of the best deal you can get in town. I went there three times, all of them were for wings, and apparently one time in order for me to get the deal I have to get a drink (some of my friends who couldn't drink alcohol, had to purchase a $2.50 fountain soda drink, which was insane.) In hindsight, I felt we shouldn't have to buy the drink, since it wasn't written on the menu, but it wasn't worth arguing either. By the way, that's another thing about this restaurant, their menu does not always reflect the real prices of the item. Some prices are "outdated", so always ask for the price before ordering. Other than that, it does have a good atmosphere to hang out with a bunch of friends and is very affordable. I haven't tried their entrée dishes yet, but am going to give it a try next time. read more

Had a terrible experience here with the bouncer. 24 years old and was told I'd have to call the police to get my ID back. Manager wasn't much help either... he seemed annoyed at me when I explained that I would have no problem calling the police but that seemed a little excessive considering the police in Baltimore have better things to do. I offered secondary forms and everything. I understand it's the law to ID people and to question it if your unsure. However, it is not the law to be completely rude to a costumer and not even explain why my ID appeared to be a fake. I don't think I would be so upset by their mistake had they simply treated me respectfully during the process. I used to go to this bar all the time and I will not be returning. I recommend staying away if you have an out of state ID because their staff clearly has no idea what they are doing and your night will most likely end in a lovely phone call to the Baltimore PD. read more

We went with family before going to Oriole Baseball at Camden Yard 7pm game so around 5:30p. Drinks and food were spot on and service was quick. We didn't go for fine dining, but we got it....Can't say enough about food and the bar décor which was hysterical who decorates with statue of Ronald Reagan...lol But I love it...and it was definitely the conversation piece of our dinner and happy hour visit. A fine bar for beer. A bargain during happy hour, which lasts until early evening. I've made it my go-to place for midday imbibing. However,when the beer provokes the munchies, hold fast. The food here here is uniformly and consistently execrable. Drink up, then seek to assuage your hunger pangs elsewhere. It's a shame. This was THE WORST bar I have ever been to. It was my brother's birthday and we were out celebrating. My brother, his friend, his friend's girlfriend, and I were playing pool when some people started crap with us. I have no idea why, but we just wanted to have fun. NO one was there to break up the situation and no one else seemed to care. I had to stand there between 2 grown men and my 21 year old brother and friend to try and make sure nothing happened. Obviously only jerks who have something to prove go here. We just wanted to have fun and these guys just couldn't act their age. We will never go there again, and I was so looking forward to it considering they support Reagan etc. I guess we will have to go somewhere else where the "regulars" can treat other people with a little more respect, and where the "bouncers" actually do their jobs. read more

The place and food is ok, nothing extraordinary. Went with couple friends and had the check split three ways to make it easier for the waiter. However since I didn't have any drinks and my friends had some, they added more tips on their checks so I don't need to add more on my bill. Come to find out later on my credit card bill, the restaurant added 25% tips on my bill themselves without my authorization. This is an absolutely unauthorized transaction. read more

I usually don't write reviews but felt compelled to after attending a cooking class at the Ropewalk. Frank Cappenelle, the chef, conducted an Italian cooking class that was just amazing. Those who participated were provided with a packet that included all the recipes for the dishes we were making and a description of the wines that were paired with the dishes. Chef Frank was very organized and answered all questions we had about the menus. The participants helped prepare the dishes and then enjoyed eating them afterwards. Who would have though how easy it is to make your own ricotta cheese. The highlight of the meal was definitely the lemoncello canollis !!! Definitely my favorite and I have made them twice since and have gotten nothing but compliments. I was assured that Chef Frank would be conducting more cooking classes in the future! Definitely worth trying one class out!!! read more
