Solid acai joint in 626! I've been wanting to try Roots & Rye for a while now, but didn't have the chance until I had my wisdom teeth taken out this past month. I had Postmated a large açaí bowl (DON'T DO THIS - Postmates charged me an extra dollar for no reason). Generally, I thought the bowl was much sweeter than other açaí places I've had, which I didn't like as much so my fav açaí is still Backyard Bowls. That being said, I was still pleasantly surprised by the variety of toppings offered (unlimited!!), and there were several options for base (not just açaí). Everything tasted fresh but note that if you get granola, they will pack your bowl with that. I was disappointed that I got almost the same amount of granola as açaí. Pretty much the Blue Bowls of LA county where OC has all the Blue Bowls. Their ingredients are very fresh and you can taste the quality. They have slightly different variations of bases and toppings but everything is somewhat of the same ingredients. Their bases stay firm and don't melt quickly which is a plus. I love when places incorporate their ingredients with magik blue powder. It just visually makes it look so much better and it has so many health benefits as well. Their nut butters were what stood out to me most. It was kept hot and drizzled right on top so that it wouldn't melt the rest of the ingredients. I got the sunflower butter and it was amazing. The layout, window seating, and ordering bar area appear mostly unchanged. The most notable differences are the new lights, signage backdrop, and menu (of course). Since the store isn't too big, small changes here and there can really transform the space. For example, it could be as simple as switching out the metal bar stools by the window with more woodsy chairs. It looks like they did get wood benches since my visit during soft opening. Bases: It's fully loaded here! Build your bowl with two bases and load up the third with chia pudding. + Açaí + Chia Pudding + Matcha Green Tea + Pitaya + Blue Majik + Overnight Oats + Activated Charcoal Coconut Unlimited Toppings: Granola Galore! Nut Butters: I'm not nuts about the temperature controlled nut butter station. Air is introduced every time the nut butters are stirred and scooped out. The only toppings that don't have a lot of variety is the fruit - only 3 options: banana, strawberries, blueberries. I don't mind it though, since I usually only get blueberries/strawberries anyways. Oof not sure if we came on an off day, but the Acai bowls were just ok. They honestly looked amazing appearance wise, but did not taste like I expected. I really love the idea of choosing bases, and unlimited toppings is a huuuge plus, but unfortunately the Acai base was kinda strange. There a plenty of public parking in nearby lots, one of which is 90 minutes free. The area is clean and safe. The actual establishment is small but is expected since they only cater açaí bowls, smoothies, milkshake and ice cream. (4 stars) Service: The two women were friendly and helpful.
