So I work out of town for two weeks at a time and I was gearing up for my next hitch when I received a rather exorbitant gas bill. We had previously called Ferrell Gas to come out and investigate for a leak due to the smell of natural gas permeating our back patio area. They came out and tested for leaks to no avail, not once but twice in a one month span. They informed me that my leak may possibly be within the walls of the home and that it was not their territory. Their suggestion was to contact a plumber to come out and conduct yet another leak test. Thus came my main man Curtis. I contacted Rooterman and they sent out Curtis the next day. Curtis was kind and informative. I am an engineer by profession so I was very curious as to how we were going to detect a leak. Curtis allowed me to join him throughout the process and taught me about the natural gas distribution system in my home. We isolated several valves and finally found that the valve at the service loop leading to the stove had a small leak. Ferrell gas had missed this twice. On top of that the stove that we had was also leaking on the rear burner. While the system was pressured with air we found that the burner would actually ignite when a flame was presented due to residual gas being pushed out by the air. Once we found the leak Curtis had another appointment he had to make so he went to fulfill his obligation and returned at a later time to complete the work on the leaking gas line. Once the line was repaired I ordered a replacement stove but the smell of gas still lingered outside. I turned on the furnace investigate and Curtis showed me how there was black ash on the burner area and also that there was too much smoke being released from the flue on the roof. He recommended I contact the company that had just recently installed the unit as it may have been set up for natural gas rather than propane. The difference in orifice size could cause the fuel source to burn inefficiently. This actually posed a danger to my family and I. I contacted the company and had them send out a tech thanks to a helpful tip from Curtis. When the tech arrived and opened up the unit he said he had never seen anything like that in all his years of working in the industry. He condemned the unit and called his supervisor. The company did what was necessary and replaced the unit rather than just washing the damaged coils. Once I received my stove I even had Curtis come back and perform the conversion from natural gas to propane with the kit provided by the Home Depot. I was not at home for this, but from my wife's testimony, Curtis once again did an amazing job. Rooterman, I have worked in customer service for many years prior to my current career and I have never come across a gentleman like Curtis. Because of this man you have earned yourself another customer as long as we are in Austin. Give that man, Curtis, a raise! BTW this review is long overdue and I apologize for that. This work was done back at the beginning of the year. The recognition is well deserved as there was a lot learned through this experience thanks to someone who was willing to explain and teach. I had a terrific experience with Curtis at Rooter Man today. He quickly determined the problem wasn't even our plumbing but the a/c! However during his inspection he determined that a recently installed tankless hot water heater was done poorly and was a ticking time bomb. In a short amount of time he replaced two parts on the unit with brass fittings, potentially saving us a flooded house one day! I've also had the unfortunate experience of having to go through Rooter-Man. I had to since they contract with American Home Shield. The Rooter-Man technician was called out to look at a leaky upstairs faucet and discovered that he "didn't have the parts to fix it" and left without ever coming back or ordering the parts to fix it, even though I paid the service call fee. He even had the gall to tell me that unless his company makes $140 off their visit, it's a wash for them. I even overheard him on the phone with his manager (?) or supervisor asking about fixing the leak and the manager confirmed that I would need to be charged for it (even though my warranty likely covered it). Absolute worst customer service ever, they lied about even looking at my leak . . . I would highly discourage using Rooter-Man in the future for anything. read more

We were dealing with an emergency sewer issue with our grinder pump. Eddie came out first thing the next morning and immediately figured out that our starter capacitor was not working well. This was the third time I had a plumber out in 5 months and the last 2 times a different outfit just unjammed the pump but missed the real issue, yet charged us huge dollars to get it working (30 mins was all they stayed for $800). I about was leave for an out of the country trip and a proper fix was critical for my wife. The bill was about half of what I had paid before, and that included the new part and a proper fix! I had a suspected main line water leak after I noticed a large increase in my water usage. I called Rooter-Man Austin at 8am and they said they could have someone there at the noon-2pm slot that day. 15 mins prior they called to say they were en-route and at around noon, Eddie and Blake arrived. After explaining the problem they quickly ruled out any potential leaks inside the home, such as the water heater etc. Since nothing was visible outside they started probing the ground with shovels and quickly found the location of the leak. They gave me a reasonable estimate and said they could fix it there and then. They had to dig down over 2 feet to find the problem which was actually an incorrectly done repair by someone previously. They promptly fixed the leak and filled in the hole. All this was done within 2 hours. These guys don't mess around, are hard working and friendly too! Recommended. read more

Our water line broke last April, and the Rooter-man guys fixed us all up. Unfortunately for us, the coupling that fixed the problem broke. Thankfully we noticed the water pressure drop last night along with wet spots in the yard and shut off the water before our yard flooded. Called Rooter-Man back this morning, and by noon they were out to diagnose the issue. Found the break and repaired it with a different joint which should hopefully prevent this issue in the future. Throughout the process they were friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to get us fixed. And because it was under warranty, it didn't cost a dime. We just had a new kitchen sink installed at the same time as having new countertops. We thought we just needed the waste disposal reattaching but when Eddie came it was apparent that the sink wasn't even attached and the new faucet was loose. Here's the deal...I wasn't hoping to find a plumber, but I guess when you least expect it, that's when it happens and you need one. It was a Sunday, late afternoon and I had just finished putting dinner together into the crock pot (it was cold outside, but I digress) and I was in kitchen cleanup mode. I turned on my garbage disposal and instead of things getting sucked down the sink, both sides of the sink filled with murky water. Hmmm, not quite how the clean up should have gone. Given I haven't had the need for a plumber previously, I didn't have a plumber of choice to turn to, so I went no further than Yelp since my plunging efforts were not having an impact. I did a search for plumbers and narrowed it down by those "open now" (a trusty tip for when you need a service provider same day!). To be honest, Rooter-Man wasn't my first call, mainly because they didn't show 24 hours operation. The place I won't name had an answering service and they promised a prompt return call. After 15 minutes, and reading the Rooter-Man reviews, I thought I would call. Thankfully I did as the other place never ended up returning my call (I called them after David called that he was 5 minutes away and told them to cancel my request). The woman who answered at Rooter-Man put me on hold and came back saying David could come before 6 pm that day...I was thrilled with the 2.5 hour wait time and even more pleased when David arrived in under an hour.
