I had a new electrical line I wanted to run for a display light attached to a grandfather clock in our foyer. I also requested a switch be added to our wall panel by the front door to operate it. The job involved seeking a route for running wire behind the ceiling and drywall from our basement to the first floor of the house. The installation was complicated and obviously required a healthy amount of expertise in all respects. The work was accomplished with a minimal amount of mess (two small holes) and the quad switch panel added by our front door operates flawlessly. During the same visit they also replaced four decorative ceiling light fixtures and repaired a bad electrical outlet to boot. The workers were fast, efficient and friendly (even to my dog). We had a situation in our master bathroom where there was excess condensation on the walls after our morning showers. We were in the process of getting estimates to paint that bathroom when one of the painters suggested we contact an electrician to see if the exhaust fan may need to be replaced. We didn't have an electrician and although we reached out to a few companies, Root Electric's recommendation really stands out! Bill Jr. came out and assessed the situation and recommended that I contact an attic insulation company to see if that's what was causing the problem. Rather than selling me a new exhaust fan that I didn't need, he was up front and honest with me. He gave me several options that we could do incrementally or all at once. And we decided that, if the attic insulation wasn't the answer, I would circle back to Root Electric and proceed with a new exhaust fan. The new attic insulation was just installed yesterday and I feel confident that the problem has been resolved and no exhaust fan will be necessary. This review is weeks late in coming. I was waiting for the day when I would not have to call Bill Root with a problem and with my last call to him yesterday I thought I need to get this show on the road because I will always be calling Root Electric for our recently purchase "handyman's special." Bill Root is a rare find in today's world. He is a business owner who appears to be never too busy to interact with his customers, listening to their tales of woe and dispatching his terrific crew members to take care of things. He actually came out to the house himself to take a look at all that needed to be done. How terrific is that? I will start with the small issues, the installaiton of ceiling fans and the repair/replacement of non working outlets. All of them were done quickly and at a great price. Our next project was the wiring of a new laundry room. This room was a converted car port. The wall the electricians had to come through to wire the washer and dryer was four inches of brick, four inches of cinder block and finally though the drywall. Wiring had to be run through the attic and this was done on a 90+ degree day with not a complaint to be heard. It was all done in record time and the appliance outlets and lines look as if they have been there all along. Thank you, John and Noah! The "big" project was the replacement of the electrical panel and outside meter. The folks at Root worked with the City in getting the necessary permit and were there to talk to the City rep when she arrived. She later told us how much she appreciated the professionalism and knowledge of the entire Root team! There was a huge pile of debris when the job was finished and it all disappeared without a trace. We now have a superior electrical panel with a whole house surge protector. The panel was labelled with great care by John and Noah (and this thoughtful touch came in handy when we recently blew a fuse!). We have been able to check off all the "electrical issues" referenced by our home inspector with Root Electric crew's help. I called Bill yesterday knowing they were the people to handle the installation of a myriad of new lights (interior and exterior) that need to replace the existing outdated fixtures. I fully expect that it will be yet another outstanding job done by Root Electric! read more

We hired Root Electric to repair work we recently had done by a general contractor that was not performed in compliance with county code regulations. We found many companies did not want to step in after shoddy work had been performed by another contractor but Root was up for the challenge. Bill Root came to my house to provide a free estimate to replace our electrical panel. During the home inspection as we were purchasing our new home, our home inspector raised safety concerns. I hired Root Electric to install a new 200 amp panel in our home. Root left our home in an unsafe condition. Several of the marked breakers do not open the designated circuits, e.g., the 2 breakers marked 'BSMT' do not open any circuits in the basement. The 2nd floor large rooms are controlled by the lower BSMT breaker. The circuit marked A/C does not energize the A/C. I discovered additional work performed by Root that has left our electrical system further unsafe and hazardous condition. I have discovered that Root installed the new meter connection in non-compliance with applicable codes and regulations. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of Root's work. They mislabeling of the circuit breakers which I documented in previous emails and now the results of the attached photos. The meter box and meter must be replaced and the circuits traced and labeled correctly, as Root's Electric clearly cannot perform work compliant with the NEC, Virginia Building Code, and Fairfax County Electrical Code, yet I simply cannot afford to hire another electrical contractor after paying Root nearly $3000. read more

We hired Root electric for a substantial electrical work: a panel replacement, recess lights on all three floors, and electrical car charger installation. We did our shopping around and Root electric gave us the most thorough evaluation and plan. Their pricing was also very competitive and they used high quality materials. For example, while other electricians argued for aluminum cable to feed the car charger, they were the only firm to correctly recommend and install copper wiring. We hired Root to install recessed lighting in our living room and replace 3 ceiling fans. Having never gotten bids for this kind of work, we had tons of questions, but they were all answered quickly and respectfully. Bill came to our house, made recommendations about the best way to go (i.e., which lights to install, how many, and what configuration they should be in) and sent us back a detailed estimate within a couple of days. The price was great - at least $500 cheaper than another estimate we received from a different electrician. On-site, Bryan was extremely professional, cleaned everything up, and tested everything to make sure it all worked before he left. My experience with Root Electric was very good. I had a large job involving complete replacement of circuit panel, including whole house surge protector, installation of an interlock switch and outlet for portable generator, installation of microwave circuit and install of two outdoor sockets and a workbench socket. Because this was a big investment I shopped around quite a bit before deciding on this company. They had sound technical recommendations to solve problems I experienced with the circuits in my house, they didn't try to design something huge and ridiculous where a more practical solution was apparent, they use quality parts, and they had good competitive pricing. I was very happy with the quality of the work and the guys who showed up and did the work. It was a good team. The communication from beginning to end was very good. Bill Root Jr. was a good guy who really worked with me and kept me up to date. He allowed me to use my own supplies when I could find them cheaper online. He provided the best proposed wiring in the home with the least disruption to drywall.
