I have been coming to Root Down since they originally opened in the DEN airport and I have tried almost everything on the menu. My favorite, hands down have always been the honey smoked salmon on top of the beet salad. Like any normal day, I placed my order with my mouth watering in anticipation of my salad as I had been waiting for 2 days for my meal. When I heard that the honey smoked salmon was no longer on the menu, I almost cried, I couldn't believe it! There is not another option for salmon in the airport, so I did not have a choice other than to add the new salmon to my salad. The replacement was terrible! I could only stomach about 5 forkfuls before throwing it away in disgust. That was $30 wasted. While they screwed up with the salmon, at least the desserts have improved and the oreo cookie sandwich was great. For an airport, this place hit all the right notes! The menu is a little limited, but I get it. It's mainly sandwiches, salads, and a couple of entrees that are further out there. I tried both the turkey club and turkey burger bahn mi. Loved the spice and flavor on the burger, but the club was solid as well. Both came with sweet potato waffle fries. I know! Didn't know they could be forced into that shape! Those came out in a metal cup which kept them nice and toasty the whole meal through. Service was great and kept the meal moving with plenty of time to catch our flight. Expect 30-40 minutes. I really liked the environment as well. More restaurants in airports should have explicitly single tables. The fabrics on the booths were comfortable and really nice. The white penny tile with white grout probably looked great in concept, but seems like it would be impossible to keep clean with roller bags. Tables are tight, but big enough. This appears to be one of very few eating options in terminal C so I it just so happened that I ate here on my way and returning from Florida. I had the opportunity to eat breakfast and dinner here. The wait time was fairly quick and the customer service was good. The food was decent considering the limited options. Both meals were bland so salt and pepper was a necessity. The presentation was lovely but the taste didn't measure up to its appearance however the food was palatable. The ambiance is nice. This past visit I think we didn't order right. The posole wasn't great--a bit too tart and lacking the oomph and delicious chile flavor I expect. The jicama tacos with shrimp wasn't ideal for airport eating. The flavor is great but in an airport not keen to pick up a wet taco with my hands. It was pretty messy. The hummus Caesar was excellent and fresh and bright so I'd get that again. I'd still be back and I wish every airport had one! read more

This is my goto restaurant when I have time at DEN. The people are great and the food is top notch! I usually get the beet salad with goat cheese and Salmon, but this time, I tried their veggie burger, and I was not disappointed. It was really tasty, though since it was made of avocado, it tended to slide around the bun a bit. Still, it held together well and was a nice change from the typical black bean based burgers. I ordered a soup to go because I didn't have much time between flight transfer. There was no line and I asked the cashier if a soup can be ready to go quickly, in a few minutes I don't have very long, I would need to go right away. She said absolutely. I waited as she stood there and played with her phone and forgot about my order. After a few minutes I asked if she can check on the order. She had completely forgotten and seemed a little annoyed that she had to check. She came back and handed a hot bowl of soup to me and said watch out it's hot. I asked for a bag, utensils, etc and her reply was the bag is too big and didn't even offer me anything. I ran to my gate and to top it all off the soup was very spicy with no other flavor. Good airport food? Impossible! That's what I thought when I looked this place up on Yelp. I've had some fairly mid airport in my time, so I don't necessarily associate airport food with good quality. Root Down changed my mind. Located in Terminal C of the Denver International Airport, they have a lot of gluten-free options. They even have a living wall, which made the place feel a lot more relaxing. I ordered the GF buttermilk pancakes, which hit the spot. I liked the creaminess of the huckleberry Devonshire, and the pancakes themselves were fairly fluffy and sweet. They did get dry, as pancakes do, but it was nothing a little syrup couldn't fix. They also weren't very heavy; there are times when I eat pancakes and they just make me feel super tired. These weren't one of those. A Tale of Two Visits - and the Last One We'll Ever Make We had an amazing experience at Root Down in Denver Airport just last week--great food, fantastic service from Tyler, and an all-around solid spot for a pre-flight meal. Fast forward to today, and it was like stepping into a completely different restaurant. Our first server was curt and dismissive, ensuring that every table around us got their food and drinks while we sat waiting. A simple tea took over 30 minutes and multiple reminders--only to be blatantly ignored. Eventually, another server took over, but the service barely improved. It was clear that our experience was an afterthought. To top it all off, as we walked out, we literally heard them talking about us. For what? Expecting basic service? We were never rude, just disappointed. We left a minimum 20% tip to make sure it went to the second server, but frankly, the whole experience was a joke. Root Down just guaranteed we'll never return. Plenty of other options in the airport--hopefully with staff who actually care. read more

This little restaurant has a full craft cocktail bar and is located smack in the middle of the C terminal at Denver International Airport. I was surprised to see a Paper Plane on the menu, but how fitting for an airport restaurant! Rhe cocktails do take time so PSA: only order if you're not in a hurry. The Paper Plane pairs nicely with sweet potato fries if you want a light bite with your cocktail. The ramen was just okay. The noodles were a little soggy and the shoyu egg lacked flavor. Thanksgiving season. When we walked up there was a pretty big crowd around it. We thought, "There is no way we're going to get seats. It's probably an hour wait." I'm happy to say we were wrong. The hostess told us 20 minutes and we probably only waited 15 minutes. My husband ordered the Cheese Burger, while I had the Farm to Table Cobb Salad. The Cheese Burger came on a neat pretzel bun. It was literally a pretzel, haha. And, it was accompanied with sweet potato fries, ketchup and a very unique mustard. We tasted curry in it. My husband loved the new take on the classic condiment, as well as, the burger. Stating, "Hey, that was pretty good." Meanwhile, my Farm to Table Cobb Salad was HUGE and SO FILLING. I could only eat half of it. It had great toppings: golden beets, tomatoes, hard boil egg, blue cheese, bacon, avocado and dates. The lettuce was tossed in a creamy ranch goddess dressing.
