Good beer but the food is way too salty. So much so much salt, it's like I'm a deer at a salt lick.

Fun place to grab a drink. Very nice atmosphere. Food was ok though. Their poutine was not like regular poutine. More like potato wedges with gravy and 6 globs of cheese curds. The pretzel was ok but the cheese dip was like jalapeño flavor. They did have a variety of beers on tap. read more

My bad. Haven't reviewed Root Down before! Always phenomenal. Honestly never had a bad beer from root down. Today I'd say my fav was either psychedelic Plumb or Cosmic Coffee. I was very impressed with the beer. I was surprised to see Justin behind the bar who used to tend the bar at Craft Alehouse in Limerick. He was one of my favorites there because of his knowledge and commitment to his craft. If you're new to craft beer, just tell him what you usually drink and he can find you something suitable! I met Marcasso as well, who was wearing a very unique hat of his own making and that he sells on the side, he was quite a funny character who seemed to fit well in the surroundings and behind the bar. The atmosphere is very chill and relaxed with an acceptable noise level that still allows for conversation. I didn't try any food as we'd already eaten but the beer was first rate! Each one was well rounded and unique. We shared two flights of IPA's and pales and a few stouts. And I took home 4 Crowlers! If you're a beer nerd check this place out! This is the most unique spot in town. Going here will definitely not be regretted. It is on the pricier side and the food definitely needs to be lowered in price. The servings are very small and the prices do not reflect that. Great spot to hangout. Beer, food, games, and friends. read more

First visit was on 3/17/18 and everything was great! Our server, Laura, was very attentive, the food was delicious and everyone enjoyed the beers selected. My only suggestion, incorporate the food into the table service. Seems like the current setup works for takeout, but adds a step for guests dining in. read more

Got there on Thursday right at 4pm opening. LOVE the space. Very old warehouse look which we love. I could see how some yelp people could think it's very loud if packed. I bet it does. But when we visited there was maybe 10 people. Space very well designed. Was on a short brewery crawl. If we had more time in the town we would have gone back. Good beer, great sour. This place just opened last week from what I have been told, and they are doing great. The beer was pretty good. I tried a sampler of four beers. I chose their saison, witbier, hefeweizen, and a chocolate brownie stout. All of them were different and tasty, but I wish they had some sort of fruity beer. Maybe that is on its way. They normally have a cider on tap, but it was kicked on the night I went. Anyway, as for food the options were surprising plentiful for just opening. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was stuffed with perfectly cooked pork. They also have pulled chicken as an option. My friend got the vegetarian wrap which was stuffed with a delicious hummus. She was actually the second one to tell me how amazing their hummus is here. I also saw tacos, and smaller options like guacamole and pretzel bites along with other items. My husband and I were in the area for an event and needed to grab beer and dinner before hand. Overall, the beer was the best part of the experience. I had the Cosmic Brownie Chocolate Milk Stout (7.1%) and my husband had the Flux Unfiltered IPA (6.6%). Both solid for their style, but nothing that was mind blowing. The food and service is a major issue, that ultimately brought down my rating. First, there were supposedly bartenders floating around to take orders. We found they were extremely hard to get their attention due to the noise level. Staff at the bar area were aloof and there was no sense of urgency to serve patrons. Personally, I felt as if I should feel it was a privilege to be there so I should be okay with waiting 10 minutes for a beer in an overstaffed bar. Pricing is fair for the area. Food... ugh. We ordered 1lb of pulled pork with mac and cheese and corn bread, pulled chicken tacos, and pretzels. My husband was informed the kitchen had run out of mac and cheese as well as pulled pork, only to be informed they still had pork. Pulled pork was room temperature, but when the BBQ sauce was added to it, it was cold. Corn bread was standard cornbread, nothing special. Potato salad was perfectly cubed potatoes with a white dressing, not the mushy potato goodness it should be. Pretzels tasted like bread sticks that were frozen. Finally, The pulled chicken tacos were cold. All the meat was piled on one tortilla, yet the order was supposed to come with two. We split the meat up between the two tortillas, but it was a pathetic taco. It came with chips, maybe seven, that served as a garnish. The gentlemen next to us requested the tortillas be warmed up, but they were told the kitchen was on a late night menu so their request couldn't be fulfilled. We would gladly go out of our way to support a small business that is willing to provide good food and service. However, I will not drive 30 minutes out of my way to receive lack luster service and cold food in exchange for average craft brews I could find within 10 minutes of my home. read more

We really enjoyed our recent visit to Root Down. The location is very convenient and parking was easy. The space is cool - it's got the whole industrial vibe going on. The beer was amazing, especially considering this brewery has only been open a short time. I've enjoyed the Bine on tap elsewhere. First time trying the Flying Guillotine which is a NE IPA. It was my favorite. Liked the fact they offered a sampler. Also loved the fact that cans were sold from a cooler by the bar. I hate waiting in line for can releases. My only critique was that the food was not good. As in there really was nothing we ordered that I would consider getting again. We tried a turkey club, some kind of biscuit sandwich that was recommended, nachos, and a vegetarian burrito. The turkey club had a bad flavor and little bacon. The burrito was tasteless. So until they figure out the food I would suggest sticking to the beer. I will return for the beer. read more

Good brew, fun atmosphere loved feeling like the pub wasn't fully transformed and was still part garage, but not in an uncomfortable way

So let me first say the beer was really good so if you're just going to grab a beer and you don't mind subpar service or food then this is the place for you. Let me start with the good parts, tried four different beers all were unique and good, that's not always easy for local breweries. The scene is cool, graffiti on the walls, arcade games, right up my alley and this place is really big so you don't have to worry about somebody bumping into you every time you turn around even when they're busy. I so wanted to love this place, I had heard really good things from all my friends but it was just not my experience. OK now the not so great parts, this is my first time here so I didn't know the drill for how it works. This may seem like a weird statement if you've never been here before because I've been to a lot of restaurants and kind of assumed I know how to go to one get a drink and get food. So I walk in and head up to the bar, my boyfriend and I sit down and the bartender asked what we would like. We asked to see a menu, reply is we keep the menus at the front and you should've grabbed it on your way in, my response was it's my first time here I wasn't aware you kept the menus there. Well being a first timer there's no way to know that the menus were upfront, no biggie we get the menu order the beer. Brings my boyfriend his beer first then mine, we sip are beers and look over the menu, as I said before the beer was really good! So we figure out what we want to eat, and we wait and we wait and we wait some more. At this point we ask the other bartender on duty if we can order some food, which we told the original bartender we wanted to do so he was aware, she said you don't order at the bar do you order in the other room at the kitchen in a tone that we should have known better. I replied I told the first bartender it was my first time here and I wanted to order and he never said anything to us about ordering in another area. Then she replies the kitchen is closing in five minutes so you better hurry up, anyone who works in the business knows what kind of food you're going to get when the kitchen is closing in five minutes. At this point, I feel a little unappreciated for spending my money here and look at my boyfriend and ask if he really wants to eat here at this point. He says let's do it, we order the pretzels, pork tacos, Buffalo chicken sandwich, and the hummus nothing was great the only thing that was even kind of good was the hummus and pork tacos, everything else was bad. Let me just say are usually don't like returning to places that make me feel unappreciated and kind of stupid, but the beer was awesome and I would probably go back and have another one and play some video games. I would never order food here again and if you expect to be treated well by the service team then I would think again. From all the great reviews I may be on a ship of my own but I have a feeling there are some others out there that share my perspective. read more

Great selection of beers - about 16 on tap. I tried 3 different beers that were all high quality - especially liked Knife Fight and Cosmic Smooth. Tried the meatball sliders on cheese biscuits. OMG - so good. I may just order a basket of cheese biscuits next time! The atmosphere is RDB is strange, industrial. They must have gotten a great deal on space because the place is huge. This place is tucked behind Molly Mcguires in a huge warehouse building. Aesthetically, it's great for a brewpub- large bar, lots of tables for seating (all high tops) and a pinball/game area in the back. It's young and modern, definitely caters to the hipster crowd. As far as the beer goes, I enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away. The chocolate flavored Cosmic Smooth on nitro is pretty good; but it is a little sweet for my taste. Same with the Boysenberry ale "F'root"; highly drinkable, but not a sipping beer. I've also had the cider which was light, but also too sweet. Staff is really friendly, although it's really hard to get service when they're packed which is often on weekend evenings. The food is pretty good; mostly sandwiches and bar bites though. Hate that you have to go to the back of the building to order food, but it gets SUPER loud when it's crowded, so I understand why. The food decent, but nothing I would definitely return for. Overall, I would definitely come back here to meet friends or for a quick bite before a show at the Colonial, but wouldn't make it a new favorite. Oh, FYI they have an extensive and delicious vegan menu, so I definitely give extra points for that! read more

My boyfriend and I have a service dog puppy and we were welcomed right in with him, and given a bowl of water with ice cubes - his fave! Love a flight of IPAs! The atmosphere is really rustic and hipster, but feels masculine too which I dig for a brewery. What an awesome brewery right off of Bridge St.! This spot was definitely the largest of the few that I visited during my stay in Phoenixville. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and the beers were very good. I did not try any of the food but heard good things. As for the beer, I had a flight of four. An awesome beer destination right in the heart of phoenixville. The bartenders are top notch and recommend exactly what your looking for with flavors and alcohol volume. I've had the cosmic brownie stout which blew my mind. Hints of malt and dark chocolate with a light coffee aroma. The game lounge in the back with open warehouse seating is a great venue to get together with friends you haven't seen in a while or even nice enough to eat their firkin brunch at. I've been in here a few times. Good variety of beer. We've enjoyed everything we've tried from the IPA to the stout. In my opinion, Root Down has probably the best beer brewed here in Phoenixville. The bartenders and waiters were friendly. The food was solid. We split some nachos and had sandwiches. The meatball sliders and the French dip were good. I would rate it higher, but the atmosphere was strange. It's surprisingly spacious on the inside (it looks small from the street). There's a converted industrial vibe with graffiti all over the walls and old school hip hop playing. The times my wife and I have been in, around dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, there have been kids running around all over and it was very off putting. They do have arcade games in the back, but it felt more like a Chuck e Cheese than a brewery. read more
