Original Chicken comes with chicken broth
Lyane P.

We came for dinner after 6:00 and all the restaurants were pretty much winding down for the night. I ordered 2 of the Originals with chicken breasts: The Pros-the chicken was tender and the sauces were tasty (I had the ginger scallion and the KMG, which is made from chili, ginger, garlic, and soy) The Cons-even thought it was still almost an hour till closing time, all the chairs were already stacked on the tables. I guess they had already stated cleaning because I could smell the strong chemical fumes of cleaning solution. The worse part was that some grains of rice were crunchy. This place was ok. There are lots of better places though.

Rooster and Rice is the kind of place you go to for some serious comfort food, which was definitely in order after a long travel morning. We ordered the original which is just chicken thigh, rice, and broth. Something about this simple combination is so comforting, like a warm bowl of chicken noodle soup. There was plenty of seating in here on a Monday afternoon. Highly recommend for your next lunch run.

My go to spot for chicken rice in SF. I used to come here all the time when I lived in the city, and it is still just as good. The portions are always generous, and everything is consistently fresh and clean. The space is spacious, pickup is quick, and the ordering process is simple and easy. I love both the original and the Marina options, and the broth that comes with it is such a perfect combo. It feels light yet satisfying, and it always settles so well after eating. I just wish there was a Rooster and Rice in the Peninsula. Please open one here

I went for lunch and waited 15 minutes past my pickup time. I put extra cucumbers on the order online and they gave me less than the standard amount. See picture attached - not worth $18

Left - "The Original" & Right - Complimentary Chicken Broth

It was my first time here because I was visiting from out of town (SoCal). I ordered "to go" the ORIGINAL. When I got back to the hotel I was staying, I ate it in our dining area and the chicken was very dry. It's a good thing they had this sauce that went with it. It came with a complimentary chicken broth. The food was ok. Nothing spectacular. You can come try it for yourself and you be the judge. That's all I can say.

We got chicken spring rolls and three Hainan chicken rices - two '"riceless" and one "original". The chicken in the Hainan rice was definitely decent, of solid quality. Portion sizes were generous, which is always a plus. However, the rice was just okay, nothing special, and the chicken soup was pretty bland. We thought the '"riceless" option was the better deal. They load you up with extra broccoli to replace the rice, which is fantastic if you're looking for more fiber and vegetables. As for the chicken spring rolls, the chicken inside was overcooked and dry. Definitely a miss.

chicken spring roll and hainan chicken

This review is specifically for takeout which we ordered off the Rooster & Rice website. We had the chicken spring roll with three hainan chicken rices, where two were "the riceless" and one was "the original" hainan chicken rice: the chicken was solid, rice was okay. Chicken soup was spot on, great flavors! Portions were solid as well. We do think the riceless is a much better value. chicken spring roll: this one was a bit of a let-down. The spring roll itself was kind of mis-shapen and the chicken was overcooked. I think overall, Rooster & Rice is not great but not terrible.

Clean restaurant with about ten tables for seating. You order at the counter then get a number, wait for them to call your number and then go get your food at the counter. Simple. It's healthy food, a lot of chicken and rice dishes. But the wowza here for me is their chicken burrito, which comes with an amazing ginger cilantro sauce that brings the flavor profile to a whole new dimension.

My second time at this Rooster & Rice location and it was as good as ever! I ordered The Original (breast and thigh with skin, fragrant chicken rice, cucumber, cilantro, KMG sauce, side of chicken broth). It was $15.95, around $18 with tax. The chicken is very juicy and tender. The rice is fluffy and flavourful and the sauce adds a much needed gingery kick! I also really appreciate the hot cup of broth. Service is extremely quick and there are 8 tables, making it a great spot to pick up a quick lunch or sit down and eat. Love!

Stopped in for a quick lunch and wasn't sure what to expect. There were a few people sitting in the eating area so thought let's try. Ordered the original chicken and it comes with poached chicken, rice, cucumber, savory sauce, and a side of chicken broth. Was definitely very tasty and the sauce and broth complimented the meal perfectly. Ambiance was clean with plenty of seating. Service was also very quick. If you are wondering whether to try it or not definitely check it out!

Do they carry SANS beverage?

Are they open on weekends thanks?

Yes

Is there an option to get the sauce without cilantro?

Yes, I believe cilantro is only a garnish they place on top of the chicken, which can easily be removed(if it tastes like dishwashing liquid)

Born and Raised in SF and growing up in the Mission you make friends with every nationality. You will see all kinds of restaurants serving food from all seven continents. There is one restaurants in the back streets of the Mission District which has lots of characters and it's serves delicious Thai cuisine. In this area you only use to see people wearing suits only on a Sunday but now you see people wearing suits on a weekday walking around. It's located on Florida ( not the state) street and it's called Farmhouse Kitchen Thai cuisine. On a Fleet Week and SF Tech week stroll I landed on Florida ( not the state) street. When it comes to Thai food I always like trying dishes with seafood. Most restaurants by the water serve seafood that can be bland and stale in SF. Some try to squeeze the life out of a lemon and lime and it still tastes more sour. One thing you can do to change the taste is to put some different flavor on it. Farmhouse Kitchen Thai cuisine offers a seafood plate called the Run Juan Seafood Sizzling and it's exactly the seafood answer for Don Juan . The Run Juan was a bit spicy with the spicy curry paste and jalapeños with and it came with an assortment of different seafood which included shrimp, scallops, calamari, and Manila clams. It wasn't salty like some in SF. I also had the Tom Kha soup which was not too sour like some in SF. I was looking for the purple rice but they had the blue rice which is good to have for Fleet week in honor of the Blue Angels. I washed all down with a purple colored Anchan Limenade. Some things in the Mission has changed and those days are "gone"but one thing won't change is the love of the Mission and for San Francisco by "Don Juan" because the Mission in the city still has it going "on" so go the Farmhouse and enjoy a Thai seafood dish called "Run Juan" Walking the streets of the Mission at night back in the days you had to be "cautious" because the ones who got targeted were the "softest" the Farmhouse is located on the Florida street where the "loft is"and lots of people demand for Run Juan but I am not currently running for "office"

I came on Sunday around 5:30, and was seated immediately. The steady influx/outflux of customers never made it seem too quiet, even though only half the restaurant was utilized. If you decide to come here, I recommend avoiding the Thai staples like Pad Thai and Tom Yum, and ordering at least 1 dish from the "From the Chef" section. This place feels more authentic with more unique offerings compared to your regular run of the mill Thai place (they are mostly government sponsored anyways). I ordered a Papaya salad (Som Tum Poo Pla), a Shrimp Paste Fried Rice, and Roasted Pork with Crispy Pork Belly. For starters, the Papaya salad with a bigger price tag is not for the faint of heart. There is a load of fish sauce, and combined with anchovies, makes for an...acquired dish. I was told by my server that it's pretty authentic, but it's a little too authentic and reminds me of Natto or Beijing tofu juice. The Shrimp Paste Fried rice is a must order; the spread is very instagram worthy and gives me vague paella vibes in terms that it's shareable and good for parties 2-4. I did not see this dish at other Thai restaurants I've been to, so I'd consider pretty unique. Just be mindful that it's on the sweeter side, and the chilis on the side are very, very spicy, so allocate accordingly. The Roasted Pork with Crispy Pork Belly was by far the star of the show. The skin was super crispy, and the pork itself was super tender, melt in your mouth feeling. The flavors and seasonings were perfect, with just a hint of basil to elevate the entire taste. A true adventure for the taste buds, and a must order as a shareable. Service was super friendly, and my waiter answered all my questions with a smile, and even gave us his recommendations since we wanted to stray away from the basic thai food orders. This place is a must come to if you're looking for true authentic Thai food from a chef that has pride in his work. I can't wait to come back to try their other unique dishes!

We decided to get tofu as the protein for the pad see ew, and it definitely hit the spot. However, I'd say the choo chee salmon was the winner. The curry sauce was super flavorful and had hints of coconut. Salmon was cooked well, and it came with some veggies that soaked up the curry. The reservation system was a bit odd with no designated time slots, but rather you put in a time yourself online. The system turned out to not work very well as I originally booked a spot for 2 at 11am and then had to call to move it to 11:40am (weird time). Turns out when we got there, my name or a close spelling of it was on the list for 12:40pm. This wasn't a big deal to me since it's easy to mishear on the phone so we moved on from that. The restaurant was decently booked and we sat inside. Now for what my partner and I ordered! Unfortunately nothing called to me strongly so I went with the very basic choice of 2 eggs plate with ciabatta toast and rainbow potatoes. I added in chicken sausage for $3. 5/10: The toast was unbuttered and honestly tasted stale. The potatoes were nice and crispy, but unsalted and quite plain. The eggs were nice, I got mine scrambled. Sausages were okay, I think I actually ended up with the pork sausages rather than chicken. My plate was $26 and I can confidently say it is not worth close to that unfortunately. Brussel Florentine Benedict 6/10: My partner was intrigued by the ton yum hollandaise sauce. There was a hint of it which was nice. Benedicts were okay, nothing special. Coconut oat matcha 8/10: On the sweeter side, but enjoyable! I liked the toasted coconut pieces on top and thought it was a nice drink. Premium matcha wise, I don't agree necessarily, but hey it was an enjoyable drink. Drip coffee 0/10: My partner loves a drip coffee and not in a snobby way. From diner coffee to honestly plain old regular slightly brunt coffee, thats her jam. This coffee was just burnt. Not sure what happened but it was $5 for a completely bitter cup of burnt coffee. Not great. Fun side note: As we were ordering the table next to us called attention to their dish as their waffle was completely undercooked and tasted bitter. The wait staff was apologetic about it, but seemed to either not understand or insist it was "too sweet" not undercooked or bitter. The table was very polite about it so honestly it was not the best look for the restaurant. It was simply feedback and I don't believe it was taken very well. Regardless, just a fun note to throw in! We will not be back unfortunately. There are many lovely brunch spots and restaurants around the city and sadly I don't think this one is worth a try just because of the cost for the quality, but I always tell myself its always worth to try in case you do think differently!

So that sucked. 1st let's admire my Thai Ice Tea. This was so adorable & I felt bad drowning him in my tea ha 2nd - my co-worker said this was the 2nd best Pad Thai he's ever had. They grill the tofu so it's got some crunch to it. Which totally elevates the Pad Thai. My Panang Curry with duck was excellent! Decent amount of duck just a few bones. Great little kick on the spice BUT not so spicy that it makes you regret life choices! Delicious will order again. The only thing I'd complain about is that my rice wasn't sticky. I prefer stickier rice - but this rice is perfect if you don't have a preference. I don't want fully unwashed mush but I like a little more starch. My other co-worker ordered Roasted duck over rice - he said it was tasty & would order again. We did order chicken satay and the chicken had good flavor BUT the peanut sauce was just ok. I'd order it again to see if it was just an off day for the sauce. It's a small restaurant & filled quickly at lunch. Many Asians eating there which told me it would be good. Restrooms were slippery so be careful but clean. Overall I would come again!

I already had high expectations judging from the pictures of this place, but Hed verythai still…read moremanaged to blow my mind! I ordered the Set 3 Chicken. The mushroom soup was the best thai soup I've ever had in my life! It has the sourness of tom yang soup but with a hint of sweetness and creaminess that balances it out so well! The tender, juicy chicken curry was flavored to perfection, the salad and butternut squash were refreshing, and the three grains complemented the meal so nicely. I was stuffed by the end, but not uncomfortably so. Prices were pretty fair; regular sets are $20-something and the seasonal sets are in the 30's. I really appreciated the amazing service we got too. We showed up at 6 pm on a Wednesday night with no reservations for 3 people, but the hostess said she could give us a table for around an hour, before the reserving party arrives, if we were ok with it. They were also very flexible about switching out one of the items in the sets we didn't like as much. The restaurant itself is beautiful and comfortable and 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone! The most well-done Thai food I've ever had!

Ordered the pork belly set menu and I really enjoyed the variety of flavors and textures throughout…read morethe meal. The papaya salad was spicy and sour, making it a refreshing palate cleanser before the main dishes. The pork belly had great flavor and came in a generous portion. I also tried the chicken curry, which paired beautifully with the rice. One of my favorite parts was the three different types of rice--I mixed them together with the dishes, which made each bite a little more interesting. The coconut mushroom soup was amazing, with a rich and comforting flavor. I was surprisingly impressed by the eggplant side dish as well. I'm not usually a fan of eggplant's texture, but it was cooked so well that I actually enjoyed it, and the flavorful sauce helped even more. To finish, the mango coconut pudding was light and refreshing. You could really taste the freshness of the mango, and it wasn't overly sweet--a perfect ending to the meal. Many tables to choose from on a Saturday. The restaurant itself is hidden away in an alleyway so not a lot of foot traffic, it's like a hole in the wall restaurant that you have to find.
