Goodbye, Roost. I had the misfortune to eat there 18 months ago and swore I wouldn't go back. As time passed, I thought that maybe my experience was an outlier and that I'd give it another try. We decided to give Roost another try today and went in with low expectations. Roost didn't disappoint. As the old saying goes, "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me!" Our party of eight had an 11AM reservation for brunch and while we were all there by 10:50, it was 15 minutes later that we were seated. No big deal that others arriving after us were seated ahead of us, as we were enjoying each other's company. As a party of eight, we were shown to a table that comfortably seated six people. When we asked to be moved to another table, we were told that we wouldn't be moved. There were two other tables with seating for 8 and 12. Eventually, those tables sat 3 and 8 guests respectively. We asked if we could get another chair, but were told that there weren't any available. Really? Oh well. We ordered drinks, which were good. We then ordered our meals, which took close to an hour to arrive. While waiting, we smelled something burning and saw the bar area fill up with smoke. Since it was taking so long, we thought that maybe some of our food had burned. Nope. The kitchen was having a hard time getting all of our meals ready at the same time.Strangely, one of the meals (a salad) arrived 20 minutes before the others. When the food finally got to the table, some was piping hot and others were lukewarm at best. While waiting, we asked our waiter, Aaron, if management was aware of our displeasure. He said "yes". But did management come over to the table to apologize? No. Was anything brought to the table "on the house"? No. Was anything taken off of our bill. No. While we sat wondering why we went back to Roost again, the owner was sipping wine and yukking it up with friends at a table nearby. Customer service at this venue must only pertain to people the owner knows. In fact, the last time we were there our party of 8 was bumped from the private dining area so that the owner's friends could sit there instead. The only reason that this rating is 2 stars is that we felt bad for Aaron, our waiter. He was very apologetic, but we felt that his hands were tied in being able to do anything else for us, except to sat that he was sorry. It would've been nice to hear this from someone in management (or the owner). Too bad for Roost as those reading this might discount this review that a bunch of "boomers" were having a bad day. Unfortunately for them, the daughter of a couple in our party writes a very influential food blog on the Western New York dining scene! So goodbye Roost. I wish I could say that it's been fun, but it hasn't. Our only hope is that we'll see Aaron in the future at another restaurant. One that appreciates everyone one of it's customers! read more
