This review is for glasses we get here only. We get our prescriptions done by Children's Hospital Pediatric Opthamology Department, so I can't speak to the doctors' work here. We've been going a few years to fill prescriptions and it's been great. They are always so kind, and they will put new lenses in my son's beloved, super-durable Miraflex and Solo Bambini frames (you know, those frames so tough your kid can fall out of a tree onto his face and they will bounce back into shape). I'll hit the good points and then move to the main reason for giving this two stars. Dr. Laura Kompkoff was great. She was thorough and patient and answered all my questions. If you're going for glasses then I highly recommend her. The front desk is very friendly! Then I went in for a contact fitting. They have a specialist in house to handle contact lenses and I was excited because I thought that I was finally going to get a good fitting (I have a high astigmatism). Both times I went to see the specialist I had to wait over 30 minutes before seeing her. She found me a comfortable pair of lenses and I was happy but told her I didn't feel as if I could see that well with them. She said to try them out but that if they didn't work out then we'd have to go through the entire process again and she would charge a new fee. I've never had an eye doctor tell me that - I always have to go back 2 or 3 times to get the right fit. I asked for my prescription (to find it cheaper online) and then she sort of went into a sales pitch so that I would order through them. She reluctantly gave me my prescription. I will add that the assistant in the contact lens area was very nice and very helpful! I was so impressed with Dr. Kompkoff that I wish I could return here but the contact lens experience was too frustrating. read more

I've been going to RVS for years and Dr. Samek and his staff provide the most thorough eye exams I've ever had. Furthermore, the contact lens staff are very helpful and have definitely gone the extra mile for me (giving me a free week when I suddenly ran out and they were backordered, etc.) One strange thing is that despite my insurance and personal information remaining unchanged over the past 5 years, they continue to have me fill out the patient information form every time I come in. Several times I've protested and told them that absolutely nothing has changed, but they still insist. read more

The store here seems competently run; clean, friendly, etc. However, I think Dr. Samek must have the big bucks for the machines, while the original Dr. and his daughter are the competent optometrists. When I received glasses back last fall (Dr. Samek's prescription), they didn't work at all. They were sent back with a "Dr.'s redo," and billed to the insurance company. When they came back they still weren't even close! The insurance company tried to charge me for the second "redo." I pointed out that since I had never received a working pair of glasses to begin with, I didn't think I should have to pay. The manager got insurance to agree to just basically refund the money they had been paid. I returned the glasses and got a small refund on my credit card. read more

I had one sunglasses with prescription and one regular prescription glasses here. The sunglasses is superb, stylish and extremely light. But the regular one is super heavy which I barely can wear it cause it made me headache. I'm giving 3.5 around. If someone would have told me this is going to be so heavy I would not have it here but they just told me this is the lightest they can have after I received - and I told them I need something lightweight upfront. read more

Doctor says his protocol does not include testing for my problem but, as noted, my listing it as an issue might have suggested addressing it one more test. -------------------- 1. Doctor did not listen to all the symptoms. 2. Prescription not helpful; I was unable to see in daylight. 3. They can't wait to sell you glasses. 4. I recently had a consultation with Dr Yang-Williams for cataracts. I found her nice, but her infrastructure around her is incompetent. - It took me 2 months to get into see her. I asked to be on a cancelation list and when I saw the doctor, she said she had many cancellations. - My bill was incorrect twice. I had to call several times to get this corrected. - After my consultation with the Cataract Surgeon, I wanted to have a quick visit with the Doctor and was stonewalled and not able to talk to her. - If I wanted to have sample contacts so that I could try out options for the cataract surgery, I would have to make a separate appointment with someone else with additional costs. I went back to my doctor in Belleuve, Dr McManus, for a second opinion and he came up with a better cataract solution and excellent support to get me comfortable with my decisions. I am 100% satisfied due to him. I would not recommend Roosevelt Vision nor will I go there again. read more

I found Roosevelt Vision and Dr. Jamieson in absolute desperation, and could not be happier about it! I scratched my cornea over a weekend Halloween party and was in horrible pain. After a weekend trip to the ER I woke up first thing on Monday, and frantically searched google for the closest eye doctor, not wanting to drive to far with one useful eye. Thank god Roosevelt Vision fit my needs! I walked in hopeless in so much pain but left laughing with a pain free, yet pain pill free, approach to my healing. Dr. Jamieson is great! He is very funny yet very professional. I am still healing but I am sooo lucky I found this clinic and Dr. Jamieson. I highly recommend! read more

Been a client about 5 years. Recently they fit me in the next day when I had a eye infection and irritation - much appreciated. They do have a robust selection of glasses - but of course I want the pricey ones, which aren't really within my budget - but manage to find something I like. Also, It is frustrating to have to have a separate contact lens fitting, however, I am hearing that this is not that unusual. The staff is friendly, accommodating and efficient. Parking can be a challenge, go early in case you have to street park. read more

I work in health care and know the value of good communication with patients. I went to Dr. Jamison because quite a few of my co-workers had high praise for him. I couldn't ask for a better eye doctor. He is bright, informative, socially engaging and funny. I actually look forward to going to the eye doctor. I once saw Dr. Samek also, and would avoid him in the future, as I was less than impressed with his people skills. I value Dr. Jamison so highly that I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. read more

Maybe it's because I'd been going to strip mall optometrists and Costco eye doctors until now, but I don't agree with the bad reviews here. I loved this place!! It's literally the closest vision clinic to my house (5-7 minute walk), so after reading on Yelp, I decided to take a chance and request Dr. Kompkoff for my husband's and my appointments (same day, different times). I just got back from my appointment, and the only downside was that both of us had to wait quite a long time before anyone called our names. Both of us were in the office for about 70-80 minutes total, with probably equal time spent sitting in the waiting room, then seeing a technician (to do the more boring eye tests), then seeing the doctor herself. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and Dr. Kompkoff was fantastic. They also have a little opticians' area in the lobby, and a woman there kindly fixed my old glasses that had been slipping off my head for the last year (no charge, and I got a new case to boot). Obviously I can't speak for any of the other doctors, but the technician and doctor I saw today were fantastic. The location couldn't be better (they do also have a free parking lot, if you don't live nearby), and they do their jobs well and with a laugh. Dr. Kompkoff is absolutely thorough and really tries to get to know you while you're in her chair. And that gets 5 stars from me. read more

Today I had an appointment at Roosevelt Vision Source and saw Dr Samek. I had broken my rather old pair of glasses and they were able to see me a week later. My experience was quite different from what most people wrote. The exam was painless and, while maybe there wasn't any excessive chit-chat, I didn't feel rushed or prodded. I'm busy, they're busy on a Monday morning, but the exam went fine and they had a great selection of frames (and plenty in the back to look through). The only negatives were that I was told I was getting a dye put in my eye (actually, it's to dilate my iris.... you can be upfront so I don't freak out when I walk out into the rare sunny day) and that things got expensive pretty quickly (exam, $120 frames, and polycarb lenses - only frills were retinal camera ($25) and the edging needed for half-rimmed frames ($50)... after insurance I paid $250 so the total was around $450). The eye exam portion was around $160 which seems far higher than I've paid in other cities. read more

I am now looking for a new eye clinic. Dr Samek made it quite easy to make my decision. He is rude, abrupt and lacks the ability to explain procedure and/or diagnosis. His people skills are deplorable for someone in the medical field. He made me feel like I was inconveniencing him when I asked questions concerning what things he mentioned about my eyes, which I value very highly. My family has a history of macular degeneration and I need to have confidence in who I trust my vision to. I saw Dr Samek three times and won't make it four. He needs to find a new line of work. I have been a customer/patient of RVS for over 15 yrs. Dr. Kompkopf was my optometrist, and she was personable and competent. As an RN, and I know both sides, as a patient and as a caregiver, that she was top rate... was....because unfortunately she and her family moved to Alaska. I wear hard gas permeable contact lenses. The best fit has been with RSV. My contacts used to pop out a lot (gets expensive). It may be old technology now, but I now have "wave" contacts..(the cornea is measured) and the fit is custom! No more problems with popping out lenses. I also wear glasses. Now, I will be truthful...their frames used to SO expensive! However, a pair of frames purchased (made in Germany) are now over 2 yrs old and are the best in fit, staying adjusted (temples or stems). I hope they last another 2 yrs. Just was in yesterday for new glasses and their inventory has changed...as in....affordable!!! I was pleased to see frames priced from $180 to $360. I purchased frames made in Japan. Other frames are French made. It is true, that the men's selection is limited. Men, if you are picky, or want something other than conservative, you won't find it here. RSV is very busy...especially during school vacations. Parking is limited, but street parking is available. For contact lens wearers, it makes sense to make most of your appts ahead of time so they are properly spaced apart for your check ups. For those who work during the week, Sat appts available for eye exams, but it can take three to four weeks to schedule that. Oh, and glasses are guaranteed for two years for any kind of breakage...I like that! read more

I was called into a meeting that was going to run late and so I called to ask if it was okay if I was about 10 minutes late (this was a few hours ahead of my appointment) and they were very curt in telling me that if I was more than 10 minutes late that my appointment could not be guaranteed and I would be charged. I was able to make it to my appointment on time and after seeing the initial assistant for my tests I was asked to wait for the optometrist. I waited over a half hour with no apology and no time frame given. The optometrist and assistant were both good at talking me through what was going on as we were doing tests, etc. and the optometrist was able to answer all of my questions clearly but she seemed to be rushing a bit. This was not a good first impression and I don't think that I'll be coming back. read more

My family and I have been going to Roosevelt Vision for years and only twice have I gone to other businesses just to check them out but I always come back to RV because they have the best Opticians and eye wear. Dr Yang-Williams has been our Optician for many years now and has served us very well with her very competent and friendly service. When you find someone like her that you trust and respect it is almost impossible to see anyone else. read more

The doctor herself was very nice and thorough, as well as the tech who ran the tests, etc. Now the reception & eye glasses staff were a WHOLE different story. The reception booth was chaotic and nobody seemed to know what was going on when I had questions about insurance, ordering contacts, etc. I went there for an eye exam, to order contacts, and get fitted and order glasses. I spent A LOT of money, I'm not even confident I was charged correctly. it was like the contact people had no idea what the glasses people are doing or charging for. Then to top it off, I waited the two weeks to get my glasses and I get a call on the 13th day saying they're in but they're scratched. I was told I have great insurance (VSP) but I still spent over $700 in all. I've NEVER EVER paid that much. If nothing else I expected much better service. From a clinical standpoint I give them a 5, but a retail standpoint a 2 is generous. read more

Terrible. I've never worn glasses before. I went in for my first exam in November because of blurriness in my left eye. Dr. Samek wrote a prescription for a small correction in my right eye and no prescription in the left. I asked him why, if I'm experiencing blurred vision in my left eye, he was only proscribing correction for my right eye. He replied that my right eye was straining to focus and causing the left eye to go out of focus. I purchased glasses from Warby Parker because the glasses were cheaper ($95) from them out of pocket than at Roosevelt Vision (RV) using my insurance. When I got my glasses, vision in my left eye was still blurry. After wearing my glasses for over a week, vision in my left eye was still blurry. I went back to RV. This time, Dr. Samek found astigmatism in my left eye. He did not apologize or offer any explanation as to why he missed it the astigmatism first time around. I explained to the front desk staff that I purchased glasses based on a flawed prescription. Their suggestion was to see if Warby Parker would redo the lenses for me. I met with the optician to see if RV could make the new lenses and put them in my Warby frames. They said they could, but even though my insurance covers lenses, it would still be $105 out of pocket. When I explained that I purchased glasses based on Dr. Samek's mistaken prescription, the optician blamed me for giving the wrong answers during the first exam. Nobody is perfect. But RV and Dr. Samek are not a big enough to admit when they've made a mistake and make amends. Their response to their mistakes is to blame the patient. I'll call Warby Parker and see if they can help. I'll post an update and I talk with them. read more

Roosevelt Vision is the best eye doctor in Seattle. It is worth it. My insurance doesn't cover Roosevelt Vision anymore but I continue to go here because of how amazing it is. They have the best customer service. I especially like my eye doctor, Doctor Henry, and Alena for my glasses fittings. They are both considerate people, and affirmative. The front desk staff is friendly and really put the customers first. There is a culture and service that I strive to find when looking for a long term place to go for appointments and I have found this with Roosevelt Vision-- Doctor Henry and Alena. read more

I can't say enough good things about my first experience. Not only was it very easy to get an eye appointment and the receptionist was very helpful over the phone initially, but once I got there, I got in right away and everyone was very helpful. Dr. Jamison took time to answer all my questions and gave me some samples to try (which have been working great). After that, the gal who checked me out, was knowledgeable about what my insurance covered and help me figure out the best strategy for using it and gave me all the information to get a rebate on the purchase of my contacts. My distance/night driving glasses arrived today and they are also great. I had a positive experience here with a recent red eye crisis. I had some sort of reaction to my contacts in my left eye which was causing it to turn bloodshot red. I'd had the problem for several months but was just using the most cost-effective method of treatment: glasses. I finally had to cave in and test out contacts as I was going to be in a wedding and didn't want to be sporting glasses the whole time. I did a test run with the contacts the week of my friend's wedding just to see if maybe the problem was gone...but nope, lo and behold, the red eye made its reappearance. I felt the red eye might contrast with the wedding colors, so I frantically called various eye clinics seeing who could pencil me in pronto. Roosevelt Vision was able to get me in the next morning. When first walking to the front desk, there were about four people behind the desk, yet no one greeted me. I waited around for a bit for someone to look up from the desk and finally someone said hello. Not the friendliest front office, but the lady who took me in to do the normal eye check routine was friendly and bubbly, greatly making up for the mediocre initial receptionist experience. The doctor I saw was friendly and to the point, two things I appreciate. I told him about my problem and turns out my eye was just inflammed. He gave me some steroid eye drop samples that he said would clear my eye up in time for the wedding. I was elated! He then asked me to wait while he brought in a specialist to look at my contact lenses. He brought in the contact lens specialist (or someone to that effect, I believe) and she was friendly and helpful. He wanted me to see her and she was nice enough to squeeze me in after just a 10-15 min wait in the lobby. She explained more about why my eye was getting red and then gave me daily disposables so I didnt have to worry about contact lens solutions or reusing lenses. The drops worked great and the lenses worked as well -- no red eyes for the wedding! I was grateful for their help. For this experience, I give them four stars with their prompt response to my situation. I would give them two stars for the second visit. I wasn't quite sure why I needed to go back if the redness went away, but I figured better safe than sorry. I kind of felt like she didn't really have anything to check for, but then she did an eye test and then slightly increased my prescription strength, as if to give a reason to change my prescription and make me buy contacts. (Its only been a little over a yr since my last exam). I felt pressured to buy contacts even though I already have a years worth of contacts that work fine using a different solution, but didn't feel like I had much of a choice for different options. I told her that my eyes were not bothered when I had tried a different contact solution from a friend, but she still suggested the dailies. I did not appreciate the pressure to buy a years worth of contacts (300 bucks!) on the spot. I ended up buying 90 days of the dailies just to try them out since I did initially like them...but after a week they have managed to be more easily irritable and feel dry after only 5 hours of wear. Meh. I'm glad that they were able to help with the problem but wish they wouldn't have ended up treating me more like a customer rather than a patient. read more

My daughter needed an emergency eyeglasses repair early on a Saturday morning before a soccer match, and these folks were the only opticians open. They were super nice, fixing the glasses quickly, without an appointment, and didn't even charge us. I really appreciated their service. (My daughter's side won!) I noticed, too, that they have a great selection of sports glasses, like for cycling. read more

I am very impressed with the service that I have received here. Everyone is very friendly and professional. I had a serious issue with my eyes, and while other offices were hard to get into, the receptionist at Roosevelt Vision Source ensured that I was seen within 30 minutes of calling. On another occasion an Ophthalmologist met me there on a Sunday, again within 30 minutes of my call. I am blown away at the willingness to go above and beyond the I have witnessed from every employee that I have dealt with here. I recently moved to the neighborhood and set up and appointment here because they have the OptoMap scanner. I love the OptoMap. It costs a bit more ($35 I believe), but they can examine your retina without dilating your eyes. I hate having my eyes dilated. The actual examination was fine. The tech doing the initial tests was friendly, as was Dr. Kompkoff. What really wowed me was how the visit ended. I always brace myself to have to fight to get a copy of my prescription to take elsewhere for glasses (I'm a big fan of Costco). Usually, there is reluctance to hand it over and the hard-sell pitch begins to get me to buy the clinic's own (over-priced) glasses. But instead, without my having to say a word, Dr. Kompkoff handed me a card with my prescription information and said, "Do you need to see an optician today? No? OK, it was very nice meeting you." Once I hauled my jaw off of the floor I skipped out of the clinic a very happy camper. I've been to a lot of eye clinics in my life, but I've never been to one with an optical shop before where getting a prescription to take elsewhere wasn't a fight. 5 stars! read more

I was referred to Dr. Henrie at Roosevelt Vision after going to a walk-in clinic for some trouble I'd been having with my eye. Luckily, they were able to get me in right away. When I got to the clinic I was happy to find parking available in their lot. Being a new patient, of course I had paperwork to fill out. Fortunately, It was not nearly as much as I have had to complete at other offices. Just minutes after I completed my paperwork I was taken to the exam room by a very friendly, personable, and professional tech. The tech asked a good deal of questions to ensure that the doctor would have all the information necessary about the problem with my eye. She told me that she was Dr. Henrie's patient herself and that I would be well cared for. She was completely right! Dr. Henrie was very thorough in her exam and also asked some clarifying questions to make sure that she had all the pertinent information needed to give an accurate diagnosis. She prescribed some eyedrops and as I continue taking them I feel my eye getting better and better. Dr. Henrie had me schedule an appointment for the following week and told me to come in for the appointment if I was not better or that I could cancel it if all my problems had been resolved. Personally, I've never had a doctor do that! I've always been told that I could call and make an appointment if I'm not better at the end of treatment. To have an appointment made and then be given the option of canceling it takes the burden off of me and lets me know that should I come to the end of my treatment and need more care I will be seen right away. If I had to wait till the end of my treatment and then schedule an appointment, who knows how long it would be before I could get in. I am only in Seattle for the summer to attend classes so I won't be seeing Dr. Henrie as a regular patient but if I did live in the area, I would not hesitate to continue seeing her on a regular basis. read more

They made a special effort to explain everything to me, as I was a little nervous about the "eye puff thing." They were patient with the time it took for the eye exam. It was the third time I had my eyes checked and the other dr's couldn't get my prescription right. He did it and he was amazing. I've never seen anything so clearly. I was a patient there for 15 years, in that time I likely referred about 7 people including other family memebers. The service was usually pretty good, the optitions are great and always helpful/ A bit over a year ago they hired a new doctor speciallizing 9n glaucoma. They had purchased the testing equipment and went about calling patients they felt were at risk to helppay for their investment. I got the call,asked what the expense would be and they refused to tell me, I wass told that i should take that up with my insurance Co.."Let's schedule it while you check with your insurance co.", I said that would be fine, I had no luck with the insurance company so I later called to cancel the appt. Once I cancelled the appointment I received a registered letter telling me that they no longer wanted me as a patient and indicated i should send for my records. Obviously they are now screening their patient list not by their ability to pay but how much they are willing to pay. Corrupt beyonf belief these people. I called a few times to chat with Dr. Sifferman but he didn't have the fortitude to call me back. I would go blind before I ever went back there. read more

I've been going to Dr. Sifferman for over 30 years, and couldn't be happier. I also saw Dr. Kompkoff late on a Saturday morning with a sudden emergency, which turned out to be a torn retina. She was absolutely wonderful, arranged for surgery immediately with a very fine group of retinal specialists (it's happened again and I have now seen all 3 that work there) and even offered to drive me there if need be. The staff are terrific - always happy to help out in any way they can - and so good about little minor repairs to glasses, etc., even on a drop-in basis. They are also very good about helping one figure out the most beneficial way to use what insurance converage you may have - that is not a backhand complement, as in getting you to spend more, but actually they help you figure out how to spend less, sometimes something as simple as delaying buying a back-up pair for a month or so if you wish. I have a huge number of friends and work colleagues who go here and all are dleighted with everything about this clinic. I can't recommend them highly enough! read more
