    Fried chicken and sides

We have eaten chicken from Ron's Roost many times at events and family gatherings but never dined at the restaurant. Tried for the first time and it was awesome. Decent service. Great fried chicken and side dishes. Everything was extremely hot when it arrived. The food was delicious. We will be visiting again.

I've been here many times but never wrote a review. Their fried chicken is the best as it's been a west side staple for 64 years. This time I got the burger and my wife got the goetta grilled cheese sandwich. The burger was okay and the tartar sauce was just that, nothing special about it. It was a hand made burger not a premade patty. I don't recall ever getting the burger there, mostly the chicken or their German meals. The wife thought the goetta grilled cheese sandwich was dry and I had a bit and it was. It needed something else as it was plain. Service was good as the waitress was a multitasker and kept up on the refills.

We have ordered delivery from Ron's Roost many times. The chicken and Saratoga Chips are fantastic! The do a good delivery business. Our in-person visit was our first. We met with a group of friends. The restaurant is comfortable. Our waitress was great. Mark and I both ordered something different. I started with hot bacon slaw which was fantastic as usual. I ordered the lunch sauerbraten. The taste caught me off guard because it was definitely 'sauer'. After a few bites the flavor settled in. The meat was tender and each bite was quite good. Regarding the potato pancake, it was smaller than you know who's, but I vouch for the flavor! It was the better potato pancake! Mark ordered the Swiss Mushroom Burger. He thought it was okay. We had Saratoga Chips delivered back in the day. We didn't have any during lunch, but they are top notch! Overall.. good food and great service.

The Ron's Roost is casual with a sports bar vibe. We came on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed. We were seated right away. The current basketball and football games were playing on the multiple t.V We ordered the hot slaw. I really didn't like it It was basically a small bowl full of raw cabbage and an acidic, watery, vinegar at the bottom with bacon bits on top. At least the bacon bits were was real, cooked bacon. It was a watery, acidic, mess. Yuck! We also ordered the Bourbon Angus Burger. You could get it with. Onion straws or onion rings. I got mine wet onion rings. I took the onion rings off and ate them separately. They were crispy and delicious. That burger... wow! Juicy, quality beef with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and crispy pickles! Yummy I'd come back just for that burger! We didn't get our complementary rolls though. We didn't know we were supposed to get them until we saw a few other folks with them. By the time we figured it out, we had already eaten. :-( Our server was Isabella was very sweet and provided honest recommendations! It was an overall good experience:-)

Not as many Hazy IPA's as I would like but they had the Reingiist Truth which is real solid local beer that tastes even better on Tap. Wide variety of food options with leanings towards Greek food which I think I was told the two owners are Greek brothers. But they had all kinds of different option for lots of different pallets. At restaurants, I usually try to order one of their specialties. At J Taps, I ordered the Gyro and steak fries. It was probably the best Gyro I can remember having. The super sweet waitress was quick to bring out my order so it was hot a juicy. The gyro was generously sized and extremely tasty from the first to last bite. I almost couldn't finish it but it was so good. I have a rule not to eat until I'm stuffed, but it was so good, I broke my rule. The steak fries were hot and crispy and I received a generous proportion. My young waitress was very kind. My wife was out of town and not liking to cook for one, I was by myself. I spent 40 years traveling for business and have eaten out thousands of times by myself and I can't remember many wait staff going out of their way, even though they are busy, to talk to me more than to take the order. She went out of her way and even though I'm fine eating alone, it really was appreciated and reminded me that it's not what you say, it's how you make people feel that they remember. I will remember her out of the way kindness more than anything. There looked to be a lot of regular customers, mostly couples, who knew each other. It got pretty busy by the time I left at 6:25 or so. The facility was somewhat outdated and dark, but it worked. J-taps is worth a visit for lunch, dinner or a couple drinks.

We decided we didn't want drinks today and normally we do order alcohol, so not sure if we were being ignored more for that reason? We were very unclear who was serving us as two or three people asked if we wanted drinks and then we saw hardly anyone after we said no. Our food took 45 minutes to be served with no updates from a server or apologies for the wait, despite other tables (who came in after us) around us being apologized to and getting food before us. My breakfast poutine was also sub-par today, the egg was forgotten and brought out several minutes later, overcooked and rubbery. Normally we have a great experience here but today just really missed. We would have been more understanding if there were an ounce of communication but if our food had arrived 5 minutes later we would have left before it arrived (we just had waters at that point since we did a lot of drinking for the holiday last night). Will be interested to see if our experience stays consistent in future visits. And I really hope our experience wasn't just because we opted out of bar drinks today.

Came here for their Sunday brunch and it did not disappoint! Brunch doesn't start until 11am on Sunday and we arrived around 1140 and got a table for 2 without any wait! The hostess and our waitress were friendly and attentive. Started with a stacked Bloody Mary which had a slider, bacon, and a chicken wing! The bloody itself was tasty, though I prefer mine to be a little spicier. We got the Hawt Mess and Breakfast Poutine and both were delicious. The over easy egg on the poutine was perfectly cooked and the smashed potatoes in the Hawt Mess were crispy and flavorful. We will absolutely be back to try the rest of the brunch menu!

A Little Piece of Bavaria Hidden in Cincinnati (and Yes...Even a German King Approves.)…read more As the 98 th King of Cincinnati Kolping Schützenfest, I recently joined a dozenn fellow Kings to welcome our newest member, King Ralph, at Kantine Biergarten Eatery. Understand something: You don't invite a room full of German Kings to a German restaurant unless you're either extremely confident...or completely out of your mind.. Germans can be wonderfullly warm people. We can also become unpaid food critics the moment someone says, "authentic German cooking." Thankfully, Peter had absolutely nothing to worry about. From the first bite it became obvious this wasn't "German-inspired." This was German. The seasoning isn't loud or gimmicky. It's what German cooking should be: layered, balanced, savory, comforting, and tasting like someone has been perfecting these recipes since before Cincinnati had streetcars. Every spice knows its job. Nothing screams. Everything sings. Our group ordered nearly everything on the menu: Schnitzel Wiener Art, Kässspatzen, Bratwurst, Currywurst, Leberkäsee, pretzels, potato salad, red cabbage, desserts. If it had a German name Americans struggle to pronounce, somebody ordered it. The remarkable part? Nobody said, "Mine was okay." Instead it was, "You've got to try this!"..."No, YOU have to try THIS!"..."Wait...who ordered THAT?" For a table full of Germans who are admittedly a bit snooty about German food, that's about as close to a standing ovation as you'll ever get. Peter is one of the great pleasures of visiting. His accent is still gloriously German, thick enough that within thirty seconds you're convinced your passport should be stamped before dessert, but his English is excellent, and his enthusiasm for food, beer, and hospitality is contagious...I'm still recovering from the joyful experience. Then there's Donna. She somehow manages to be hostesss, bartender, server, diplomat, and air traffic controller depending on what the room needs. She has a timeless elegance that reminds you how genuine hospitality used to be. Friendly, quick with a smile, completely unflappable, and somehow making controlled chaos look effortless. The entire staff deserves recognition. Everyone was upbeat, genuinely happy, and seemed to enjoy working there. That kind of atmosphere can't be faked. The beer selection deserves special mention. Traditional German imports share tap space with outstanding local German-style brews, including Hofbräuhaus Newport favorites. Whether you're craving a Helles, Märzen, Dunkel, Pilsner, or Weissbier, there's something for you. Do yourself a favor and order one of the giant German beer mugs. Life is simply better when you're drinking from something that could double as emergency home-defense equipment. The setting is exactly what it should be. This isn't polished, corporate, Instagram-engineered authenticity. It's relaxed. It's comfortable. It's Cincinnati. It's Bavaria. More than half the seating is outdoors, conversations linger, strangers become table mates, and nobody seems interested in rushing you out the door. One tiny suggestion, and I truly mean tiny. The century-old building has wonderful character, but it occasionally carries a faint musty aroma. Peter, invest in an OdorStop commercial ozone generator for occasional after-hours use. It's an inexpensive fix that would make an already outstanding experience even better. But that's like criticizing the Mona Lisa because the frame needs dusting. If you want white tablecloths and waiters whispering French words they don't understand, go somewhere else. If you want authentic German food prepared by an actual German who refuses to compromise, outstanding beer, wonderful people, fair prices, true Gemütlichkeit, and one of Cincinnati's best hidden gems, go to Kantine. You'll leave full. You'll leave happy. And if you're anything like our group of German Kings, you'll already be planning your next visit before you've backed out of the parking lot. Prost, Peter and Donna. You promised us Germany. You delivered Bavaria. Did i mention that this place is literally hidden away from any and all drive by and walking traffic. It is a s secret spot in old-Cincinnati.
