Had a nice dinner here with three friends. We got the saurbraten, pork schnitzel, and fried chicken (among us), and everyone really liked what they ordered. The potato pancakes that came with the German dinners were great. We shared a (huge) order of Saratoga chips, which everyone enjoyed. Will definitely come back. Service was excellent. read more

My son took us here for dinner last night. He had heard it was famous for it's good fried chicken. I have to admit that the chicken was really, very good, the broccoli was cooked perfectly and our waitress took good care of us. There were a couple more dishes that I'm looking forward to trying next time, too. There is a kitschy-ness to this place that I liked. Wait till you see their car with a HUGE rooster on top of it. Was excited to try this place but it was a huge disappointment. They advertise a buffet but don't have it open. Still clinging to COVID protocols even they they have all been canceled. Truth is they just don't want to be bothered with the buffet so let's call it for what it is. It would be an insult to instant foods to fall this such. I have eaten military MRE's that tasted better. We stopped in Friday night to Ron's Roost. I have not been there in years! We were both craving fried chicken, but were pleasantly surprised with the options on the menu. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu. It comes over the top of a bed of noodles with Alfredo. Absolutely delicious!!! My gf was excited to see chicken livers on the menu, and loved their appetizer. Lets start with....I dont think ive ever waited this long for some fried chicken i ma life!!! ...... ..... was finally able to order at 6:30 food did not arrive until 7:15-7:20 menu says it takes 20 min for the chicken .... And she instantly threw the server under the bus....woooow.... Sorry but no .... U never blame any one individual, and if you are going to single people out ... atleast make it she right person!!.... I felt sincerely sorry for this server .... She took the lashing for the cooks falling short.... The manager (pam) said she pulled her ticket when she put our order, which was right when we placed it... I reiterated to the manager it was not servers fault.... She then proceeded to tell me she talked to her and needs to understand that orders need to be placed timely... SMH ... she got it wrong or she just refused to believe it was cooks, one or the other .So maybe going on here will clarify... dont want poor girl to lose her job cuz the manager refuses to listen to customers complaint. As for the food .... Chicken considering it took an hour to get to the table was pretty damn good ... mashed potatoes is gunna be a big NO !! 5 star fried chicken. You can taste the care and pride the owners and employees put into their signature dish, crispy moist fried chicken. The breading is crunchy, golden brown, and seasoned to perfection. The chicken is fresh and the sides are good. I have never tried any of the other menu items as we go to Ron's for the chicken but I have heard the burgers and meatloaf are good as well. How can I not have reviewed them yet? I go there mostly for the lunch sauerbraten. It isn't authentic, because the beef isn't marinated, but it's really good anyway, because of the gravy, which is seasoned the same as their wonderful mock turtle soup. It comes with noodles and a potato pancake, also with your choice of applesauce or their potent hot slaw (You have to like vinegar). They always let me sub a tossed salad. The menu doesn't mention it, but you also get what you think is a doughnut hole, but is actually a little pineapple fritter. If that isn't enough sweet ending for you, get a piece of cream pie. Yum! They're known for fried chicken, and do a good job with burgers. There are lots of things that I haven't tried, but are probably really good. read more

came here with my family after the funeral service of our love one; we were seated by the food/ guest associate ; once seated our server by the name of Lindsey! came over after approximately 15 minutes later. Once the young lady took our order we IE ( my mother ) asked if she could reiterate the order so that we can make sure it was taken correctly as it was a large order; she Instantly had an attitude from that point, stating that she's been doing this for a long time an said ( I GOT IT ) so once the meal came to the table ( it was fresh and hot ) a few items were not included per our asking; when bringing this to her attention, she rolled her eyes and said I will just remove those items off the ticket, but I'm like that's not what I wanted you to do, we wanted what we ordered; at this point I said F it and was like okay we will just go with it as is. upon receiving the bill for pay, she gave the option to pay at the table or at the front desk; my response was that we will pay at the front. As I walked up to the front desk, there was a manager and another associate who was getting ready to leave, neither had acknowledged myself or my mother nor did they say hold on we will be right with you / one minute / would you like to purchase a dessert out that counter? NOTHING. WAS SAID, not how was the meal / we will be with you shortly. So I waited patiently, but at the same time, thinking to myself and out loud to my mother, I wonder how long they are going to make us wait before they even acknowledge us??? so I walked and sat down in a seat near the front desk, a Caucasian lady walked up about six minutes after I sat down; she was immediately spoken to an asked of what service was needed! ! ! We were flabbergasted. and yet we still were ignored until the server thought my mother had left out the door without paying ! ( Some dame nerve ) WE WANTED TO! so embarrassing and then tried to argue us up and down and give every excuse as to say she was not profiling us!!! We were here with large group of approximately 30 people in the patio room. The wait staff was very pleasant and accommodating. There were several appetizers on the table of Saratoga Chips, Chicken Tenders, and Mozzarella Sticks. The chips were addictive and those of us at our end of the table wiped out the plate quickly. We then placed our order of individual meals. I ordered the crab cakes with a baked potato and side salad. Very tasty and filling. My boyfriend ordered the 2 piece breasts of fried chicken. They were HUGE pieces. He also ordered a side of mashed taters with gravy and apple sauce. He let me taste the chicken. The flavor was fantastic! Being a west-side staple, I had to try Ron's Roost. I am unfamiliar with this part of town, but I was easily able to find this restaurant by the big rooster on top of the building. There was also a rooster truck in the parking lot, which I've heard travels around town quite often. I met a friend here on a Saturday night around 7, and only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. There were peanuts to snack on while we waited. Service was okay, with our waitress answering any questions we had, but was not very chatty or outwardly friendly otherwise. We both ordered chicken, and I appreciated that the menu told guests ahead of time that chicken orders would take about 20-30 minutes. Our food came out fresh and hot. They also serve big portions, which is nice as someone who is on a budget. I got the 2 breast dinner, and I was able to take an entire breast and leftover sides home for lunch the next day. All for around $12! This place is nothing fancy, more of a relaxed and casual vibe. Beer signs line the walls as well as big TVs for watching basketball or other sports. The atmosphere was nice, and I enjoyed people watching. The only downside was that our table clearly hadn't been wiped off before we were seated, and there were crumbs on our chairs, napkins all over the floor under the table, and lots of food on the floor. It was busy though, so staff was probably most concerned with seating guests efficiently. Overall, I enjoyed this place. If you're looking for great fried chicken, I definitely recommend Ron's Roost. I was looking for somewhere close to home where it would be easy for my husband and I to compromise when we wanted different food. It took me a few tries to get my husband to go for it, but we finally ended up at Ron's Roost after Christmas shopping and it turned out to be a great time for both of us. First of all, the staff is wonderful and everyone is so friendly and personable. When we were seated the hostess told us the name of our waitress, which I thought was nice, it's not much, but usually you just hear "Your server will be right with you." It just struck me as pleasantly personable! Our waitress was very kind and checked on us often, but appropriately; it was never too much. My husband turned thirty the day before and he liked that she called us "Kiddos", he said he thought he needed that every day. The interior is nice and cozy and it was decorated so nicely for the holiday season. They had sort of mood lighting, which I love. The bar is beautiful and chic and even the beer glasses are very cool. Speaking of which, the beer selection was nice also. The food was great, we ordered mozzarella sticks just because we haven't had them in probably a year. My husband got a burger and I had a mahi mahi sandwich. We both loved our meals and were completely stuffed by the time we left. We couldn't possibly have for dessert in, but they have a fridge with fresh pie and cakes when you walk in and they looked so delicious. Next time we will have to be more strategic about our meals so we can find room for desserts! I think this will be our new go to spot when we can't decide what we want. In the time that my wife lived here before I entered the picture, she was always curious about that iconic "chicken mobile" that would drive around town and park in different spots at that curious-looking restaurant with the giant rooster on top. After I moved here and we went out for food one night, we decided in a spur-of-the-moment decision to visit this little locale called "Ron's Roost". What a delight that turned out to be! Their fried chicken is, hands down, the greatest I have ever had. It is perfectly crispy on the outside, with a distinct mix of ingredients that give it a small kick of spiciness, without being overbearing. Meanwhile, the interior of the fried chicken is piping hot and moist, without affecting the skin. Though their sides are terrific, I would stop short of complimenting their roast chicken and other Cajun cuisines too much, as they are a little unremarkable. I can't believe I have never reviews Rons before. I get chicken for family when they come to town. When I visit my godmother in Fairfield I have to bring wings. I'm sure here with my mother now and I just picked up wings per her request. She is thoroughly enjoying them. The chicken in my opinion is always seasoned well and friend perfectly. I have never had a bad experience. I have to admit I always call in and pick up my food. I have only had chicken on the 15 years I've lived on the west side. After 2 months of planning, we celebrated my fiancés birthday at Ron's Roost with a party of 36 last evening. All was wonderful until the end. I had asked a server to take a group picture by the chicken car for us. When I asked, I commented to her and the other servers nearby to her that we needed to get pictures before anyone tried to leave. My fiancé, the birthday boy, had just received his meal and I ordered another round of drinks. We got up to take the picture and by the time we came back, 5 minutes later, everything on the patio was cleared. My sister in law overheard the servers commenting that we had left our stuff behind. And another server told them we would be back. No one asked me, the host, if we were done and if they could clean. This really was a big downer and pushed us out before we were done. My fiancé ended up eating cold pizza from the night before when we got home. I returned to the restaurant today to pick up my cell phone and speaker that was left. I had called after business hours and said there was a Saratoga chip emergency only the roost could help me with. When they expressed they were closed i was heartbroken. I knew no other restaurant could come close to the quality of friendliness of the food and staff. However, they said they would be willing to help me, past close, to grant me my Saratoga chip need. We thought we would give them a second chance ... bad idea. The food was just all around not good! All the food shared a general temperature of luke warm, the lettuce in the salad was soogy, wings were frost bit and fries tasted as if they were re-dipped or warmed up, not fresh. To make a bad meal even worse was the horrible waitstaff. Our server Trevor was fantastic but the rest of the staff seemed inconvenience by our presence. We stood at the hostess station for a few minutes without a welcome before the elderly lady lacking a personality finally sat us. We won't be back again. Classic Westside Establishment! There is a reason it has been in business since 1960. Their fried chicken is on point as expected, though, not the best I have ever had. My dad goes here for their chicken livers, mock turtle soup and sweet tea... that is some old school American food you do not find at many places. My daughter went crazy over their chicken and waffles. She made us go back a second time before leaving town to get them again. On one of my visits, I had the Bourbon BBQ burger and it is one of the best I have had this year! My son had the fish and chips with waffle fries and he was not disappointed. Some of other things I really loved here were their green beans and Saratoga chips with homemade BBQ sauce. On the negative side, they need to up their salad game. My wife ordered a salad with fried chicken... the greens were very basic and it was sloppily put together. The inside of the restaurant has been remodeled over the years and there is plenty of space, a bar areas and lots of TVs.
