Hemley's Septic - Incoming power for pump tank piped in from home (done by myself)

I was having drainage problems all the sudden. Went to their website late last night to schedule a…read morevisit. I get a call early the next day to have a visit scheduled the same day! Sean and Al came by to check things out. They found a blockage in the inlet and they took care of the issue in maybe 20-30 minutes. They were great! The estimated price for the visit was already talked about with me from the dispatcher and the end cost for the visit wasn't too far off. Hopefully no more septic system issues come again for a long time but when it does I'm calling Hemley's!

I contacted hemleys during October 27th for a full septic tank that appeared to be failing. On Oct…read more27th they came out replaced a burned out pump and stated there was drawdown issues on our lateral lines. The 29th they came out again to try and diagnose/fix the issue. Eventually while we were at work they left, I got no phone call or communication and the massive hole in our yard filled back in destroying the landscape. I eventually reached someone by phone requesting an update, thinking our septic was resolved. One of the tehcs told us our DRAINFIELD has failed and they tried a temporary fix, but until it can be rectified pooling will occur in the yard if too much water used in the home. I was told on the phone by the tech that unfortunately this could be close to a 30k fix and it was left at that, with no guidance on what to do or where to go. I paid my bills right away to hemleys that week for the work they did complete. This process ended up taking Nov until February to rectify due to the misdiagnosis from hemleys. I had to pay $5000 to a drainfield designer pay numerous fees to the County for inspection which all took time. Meanwhile we had pooling in our yard and could not fully use our water and appliances in a house hold of 4. A massive 8ft by 8ft deep hole was in the center of our backyard all this time from testing by designer and county. Eventually, I found a very reputable septic company to complete the design work from the designer. Within hrs of the septic company starting the job and doing some basic diligence they discovered 2 of the 4 lines had valves closed/broken and that was all that needed to be replaced. Fortunately, this company was honest and came forward with the information. However, hemleys cost my family nearly 8k in unnecessary work hiring a designer, other fees all due to this misdiagnosed failing drain field. On April 22, 2026 I respectfully asked for a manager or owner of Hemleys to discuss this issue. I was told to provide the documents from the last company and they reviewed county records. I supplied this within minutes. I then never received a single phone call or update as I called daily until 4/30/26. I was consistently told the owner and or manager are not available on several days. And then the manager after 2 days of that stated the owner has not reviewed this yet. This was an extreme inconvenience to our household and costly due to the negligence that made for several months of an inoperable septic tank when this issue could have been resolved in a few hours like our newly hired company completed. At this time we have been blown off by this company we had used and recommended for years. Based on the data and information we have we will continue escalating this in the necessary manner legally as we have the emails sent to our designer from Hemleys supporting them diagnosing failing drain field, that in fact was no where near failing.

Long story short: slow draining bathtub and gurgling toilet clued us in that our sewer lines needed something. Dan returned my Yelp request for contractors and provided helpful guidance and no pressure offer to check it out. He was very clear and precise up front about the cost of inspection and then costs for possible repairs, which depended upon what he and the scope discovered. He installed two clean outs, relined the 50+ year old cement sewer line, applied for permit and inspection, and was on site during inspection and promptly filled in the hole. His crew was polite, efficient, and tidy! Dan was helpful and extremely communicative and punctual. We have recommended ATC to others and will call him again if ever needed - which we shouldn't but it is comforting to know we know a trustworthy and honest plumbing contractor!

Dan showed up the same day to take a look and walked us through what needed to be done. Everyone else I called said it'd be at least a week before they could get someone out. Not fun when you have the water off! The crew was on time, had the right equipment, and got everything dug up and replaced way faster than we expected. What stood out most was how clean they left everything -- no mess, no damage to the yard, and they even compacted everything smooth again before they left. Couldn't even tell there was an issue. Price was fair and communication was great from start to finish. Definitely the kind of company you keep in your phone for the next project. I'll be hiring them for a few other projects on my rentals, they have a wide range of skills!

Russell not only pumped my tank, I mentioned I had root issues- he said I got you. He educated me, showed me how to do a drain field test myself and answered a bunch of pending questions that I've always had. Russell is professional, kind, fast, transparent and so easy to work with. I truly feel like Sterling should be every septic owners go to. They haven't failed me once and I am a picky customer. Initially, Sterling told me that there would be no one available until Monday morning, but offered me info on another company if I wanted to check with them instead. But then, within the hour, they figured out a way to get the last of their guys who was still out in the field over to my place for a diagnosis. Guy was here in under an hour. What's more, to make sure everything was well and truly addressed, the boss himself stopped by on his way to a birthday party to offer a little oversight, hands-on assistance, and some on-the-job staff training. Sterling ended up pumping my tanks, which was fine, but there was no charge for the extra service call, which was even better, and everything was resolved by 6:00 PM. These folks could have easily said, sorry, can't do anything until Monday, and I would have understood. Instead, they went the extra mile for a good customer - and now they've ensured that they'll keep that customer for many years to come. That's the way to do business and I thought you Yelpers would want to know.

It was truly nightmarish. I started calling around to alternative septic companies and had a lot of trouble getting calls returned or a commitment to perform. I had worked down the list of septic designers in Kitsap County with no satisfaction until I hit the "N's". When I dialed Nuckels construction, there was no voice mail or stonewalling. Holly Nuckels answered the phone and immediately instilled confidence with a line of questioning and suggestions that demonstrated a profound understanding of septic technology and process. She promised to take on my project immediately and see everything through to completion. She and Brent were on site within a day and all my cares and worries evaporated! They cleared the existing failed field to a degree that held us through the permitting and construction arc. This was a complex, extensive replacement that including rehoming the entire drain field. Naturally I expected a lot of disruption to the landscaping, but was amazed at the care the crew took to try to preserve any established planting in the impacted area and to carefully remove all debris and level and tidy up the site in preparation for my landscape restoration. I simply cannot say enough about how grateful and impressed I am with the work this company did for me!

The service man that came was extremely thorough and worked efficiently without wasting time. Being a woman, I am always afraid of being ripped off and dismissed with my concerns and questions, this was never the case here. Every question I had was handled with care, he did not shy away from explaining how things worked either. He made the required repairs and cleaned up afterwards. Now let's talk about cost. Yes, I was expensive. But there was no was in HELL I was going to muck about this household's feces! These men and women have a dirty job and should be compensated for it, not to mention the cost for safely disposing/cleaning up whatever materials they come across. If you're concerned about costs be sure to ask the scheduler what is typically charged and they will happily explain it to you. You will have to pay for their time, materials, and assessment of the issue. I will be using this company again for my next service. (4 stars instead of 5 because of the scheduling hiccup.)

This was my second service call with Kurt's and unfortunately, he fell flat on his face! I scheduled another pump out on my mother-in-law unit with Kurt's, as he handled my previous problem so well. My Tuesday morning appointment came and went but without Kurt's. No phone call, message , nothing! Straight up NO SHOW! Early afternoon came and progressed into late afternoon and then, just before 4PM and 6 hours late, he did call to say "he wasn't coming. I'll try and re-schedule you in a couple of weeks." Kurt further said "I couldn't come out for your service today anyway since he had to empty my truck before 3PM. Kurt could have called earlier with "Sorry, this afternoon for sure, maybe later, just really backed up" or how about just a simple "cant' make it," but instead he simply pissed away my entire day, knowing he was overbooked and would not be keeping his own appointment A simple phone call early in the day would have saved all this grief...certainly NOT my definition of a Prompt, Reliable or Premier service. Kurt is a busy man and he clearly has far more business than he can handle. I do wish him success and a bright future but keep all this in mind if you're really looking for a reliable Septic Pumping/Service.
