I was having drainage problems all the sudden. Went to their website late last night to schedule a visit. I get a call early the next day to have a visit scheduled the same day! Sean and Al came by to check things out. They found a blockage in the inlet and they took care of the issue in maybe 20-30 minutes. They were great! The estimated price for the visit was already talked about with me from the dispatcher and the end cost for the visit wasn't too far off. Hopefully no more septic system issues come again for a long time but when it does I'm calling Hemley's! read more

I contacted hemleys during October 27th for a full septic tank that appeared to be failing. On Oct 27th they came out replaced a burned out pump and stated there was drawdown issues on our lateral lines. The 29th they came out again to try and diagnose/fix the issue. Eventually while we were at work they left, I got no phone call or communication and the massive hole in our yard filled back in destroying the landscape. I eventually reached someone by phone requesting an update, thinking our septic was resolved. One of the tehcs told us our DRAINFIELD has failed and they tried a temporary fix, but until it can be rectified pooling will occur in the yard if too much water used in the home. I was told on the phone by the tech that unfortunately this could be close to a 30k fix and it was left at that, with no guidance on what to do or where to go. I paid my bills right away to hemleys that week for the work they did complete. This process ended up taking Nov until February to rectify due to the misdiagnosis from hemleys. I had to pay $5000 to a drainfield designer pay numerous fees to the County for inspection which all took time. Meanwhile we had pooling in our yard and could not fully use our water and appliances in a house hold of 4. A massive 8ft by 8ft deep hole was in the center of our backyard all this time from testing by designer and county. Eventually, I found a very reputable septic company to complete the design work from the designer. Within hrs of the septic company starting the job and doing some basic diligence they discovered 2 of the 4 lines had valves closed/broken and that was all that needed to be replaced. Fortunately, this company was honest and came forward with the information. However, hemleys cost my family nearly 8k in unnecessary work hiring a designer, other fees all due to this misdiagnosed failing drain field. On April 22, 2026 I respectfully asked for a manager or owner of Hemleys to discuss this issue. I was told to provide the documents from the last company and they reviewed county records. I supplied this within minutes. I then never received a single phone call or update as I called daily until 4/30/26. I was consistently told the owner and or manager are not available on several days. And then the manager after 2 days of that stated the owner has not reviewed this yet. This was an extreme inconvenience to our household and costly due to the negligence that made for several months of an inoperable septic tank when this issue could have been resolved in a few hours like our newly hired company completed. At this time we have been blown off by this company we had used and recommended for years. Based on the data and information we have we will continue escalating this in the necessary manner legally as we have the emails sent to our designer from Hemleys supporting them diagnosing failing drain field, that in fact was no where near failing. read more

We had an emergency with both toilets getting plugged up. These guys came out last Friday afternoon and pumped our tank. Then they returned this morning to find and replace an infiltrator - which fixed the problem. Since they didn't need to check the rest of the drain field (at least for now) they lowered the cost of the original estimate by $700. I was impressed with how quickly they responded to my call last Friday, with their expertise and in how ethical they were in lowering the price today. Definitely 5 stars. read more

Hemley's were doing heavy upsells on us during a routine inspection. We were pumped 2 years ago, but suddenly we needed another pumping and our drainfield was clogged and needed jetting for thousands of dollars. Had another vendor come out and confirm we don't need either, and come to find out from three other neighbors they were told the exact same story by Hemley's on their recent visit. Something doesn't smell right. Either way the trust is gone. read more

Tried to charge us $3600 to replace a septic pump when the actual fix was replacing two $50 float switches. DO NOT USE HEMLEYS they are as dishonest as they come. Details: Septic alarm went off, called Hemleys to come out and resolve. Was told that the tank wasn't full so there must be another problem. Another team of technicians came out to investigate. They told us the septic pump was bad and needed to be replaced. All told they wanted to charge us $3600 to pump the tank (to replace the pump the tank needs to be empty), put a new septic pump in, and install a $500 riser over the pump out lid. We have a couple friends who installed their own systems who offered to do it for us. Long story short, we hooked power up to the pump and it ran fine. There was nothing wrong with the pump and it did not need to be replaced. The float switches (about $50 each) that turn the pump on were not working and those needed to be replaced. Obviously the Hemleys guys figured we didn't know anything about septic and would just write them a check for $3600 no questions asked. Called Anastasia at Hemleys and she sounded oh so shocked that such a mistake could have been made and promised to follow up with their techs and find out why they told us that. That was three days ago and we haven't heard anything. Do not use Hemleys. At the very best they are simply incompetent. Most likely and much worse is they are dishonest and will try to get you so spend way more money than you need to. read more

Recently had Hemley's install risers flush with grade on our 1993 Hemley 1125gal 2 chamber tank & 1000gal pump tank. We also decided to replaced the original pump from 1993 as preventative maintenance & I elected to re-wire the entire septic system as an extra failsafe. Mr Hemley has a great hard working crew that deserves some solid appreciation for their efforts! In total our system now has 5 risers + 1 electrical handhole. Future servicing will require absolutely no digging for decades to come. read more

We encountered a backup in our septic and called Hemleys gig harbor- they got us scheduled for the next day and the opportunity for a cancellation - approximately 1 hr before arrival they gave us a heads up - they arrived early went right to work - in 40 minutes after they had started pumping- they identified blockage and cleared the baffle and the blockage - plus a wealth of knowledge and information they shared. As good an experience as one can have,given the circumstances. read more

I contacted Hemleys in April of 2024 before putting my home up for sale to come inspect and clean the septic tanks (I have 2). While they were able to schedule within two weeks, three months later, I had received no documentation of their work after repeated requests. After the home was under contract my agent and I both had to call repeatedly to get any documentation or even proof they'd come out. They then sent their "notes" which outlined they had left several rootballs in one tank, and the buyer almost backed out. I had to spend another $800 plus to have them come out and remove them and then I Still do Not get documentation. After four calls and three emails, I have just received documentation that says they came out, but not that they removed the rootball. I cannot recommend a company that is this lax with their reporting/communication or even care of the customer. read more

I've used Hemley's for years on my Gig Harbor home for pumping needs. They've always been great until now. I've spent the last month working with them on an issue with a new home purchase where our inspector said to have the septic pump checked do due to a noise (entire septic system and pump installed by Hemley's the prior year). From miscommunications between the techs and the office staff and having them come out to the property 3 times because equipment was failing and the office staff says "they said it was fine." The last time they came out Josh literally watched as the system failed. So Josh assured us they would honor the 2 year warranty with a replacement pump for half price. They ordered the new pump and I was put on the schedule. I asked for the estimate to be sent to me and they did not send it until 3 days later when I called again. The estimate was NOT what was quoted by Josh during his visit. So I politely asked the office staff to look into the matter. I believe she did and she called me back to tell me that the written quote was correct (she said that they cannot "resell" the pump... duh, it's broken), not what Josh had quoted me and then proceeded to tell me that the tech was en route to my home (a few hours early and no one was even there). I felt very pressured to "just accept." Luckily this issue isn't emergent as the pump only services our basement, or I would have been forced to accept their inflated quote. Josh was fantastic... so he gets a star. The other tech that came out previously and the office staff not so much as he said there was nothing wrong with it AND failed to test it completely (we asked him to run the bathtub which we know he didn't because it wasn't even wet when we showed up within the hour and full of spider webs). If a pump that is 1.5 years old fails there is something wrong. I own 3 homes in the area and am switching companies as well as both real estate agents on both side of the recent home purchase. Stay away! This just doesn't seem ethical. Luckily, I found someone less expensive that's even adding an alarm. It's a shame that they wouldn't stand by their work or word. Moral of the story: Hemley's installs pump. Pump fails. But it's still cheaper to have it replaced by someone else than have them give you a "warranty" replacement discount. read more

We used Hemley's about 7 months ago to pump our septic tank. The technician came out and they said they pumped the tank with very little solid product, recommending that we should need to pump our tanks about every 5 years. We had another company come out to install risers from the tank tops and a new PVC baffle. They say that the septic tank is full and they can't do the baffle until it is pumped again. I called Hemley's to try to figure out the situation and their solution was they need to charge me again to pump the septic tank. I definitely have reservations whether they did the job correctly the first time. I would definitely recommend against using this company in the future for your septic issues. read more

I read all the reviews and many are negative but our experience was completely the opposite. We were handled promptly for our septic emergency and I was expecting to be told our field needed to be redone to the tune of 20k plus. Instead, the workers Derek and Jacob were exceedingly professional. I pretty much stood over them as they worked and asked questions throughout since I am new to using a septic system after moving to Lakebay from Seattle. Those guys were great and very informative and the owner has been only friendly, accommodating, and courteous. In our case, we needed a new UV and pump replacement. It wasn't cheap but at least we weren't given the "you need a whole system" line to take advantage of our lack of experience. In the case of the pump, they let us borrow one so we could use our bathroom until the other came in. I only do reviews when I feel strongly (for good or bad). After our experience I was shocked by the negative reviews only because our experience was great. read more

Run Away - Find another company Contacted Hemley's regarding a pending sale for my mother's, she lives in an elder care facility - no one's at the property. Spoke to Kristina, explained I knew nothing about septic systems but apparently needed a certificate confirming the system was in working order for the county to finalize this sale. She told they do this all the time, even confirm the work required. Then proceeded to quote me: $369 X 2 - Pump Tanks $75.00 - County Fee $265.00 - RSS Fee $55 - Filing fee? Total $1133.00, figured with tax less than $1300. I provided my cell number, email, credit card, asked for a written quote and credit card authorization form. Never received the quote or card authorization. Four days later received an emailed invoice for $2700 and notification $750 more was needed stating there could be additional charges remaining. Unbelievable - I immediately called Kristina and spoke to her boss Deana. Kristina was absolutely positive I had approved all this extra work during a phone call with her - not true. Then they said it was a conversation with Deana - not true, then they blamed my brother for approving all this work? Never had a conversation or email from Hemsley's after the initial discussion with Kristina until that bill came. As it stands today, I have no confirmation any of this work has been completed, let alone in a professional manner. Then they falsified records sent the county about the work they had performed. This company has a D- rating with the BBB, for what appears to be similar conduct/discrepancies. Find another company if you need septic service read more

I had the alarm go off in my septic pump system 2 days ago and called them. They sent a guy out yesterday in his personal vehicle. He had no parts, did NOTHING at all and charged me an outrageous "service call" and gave me advice that was 180 degrees "other than" the service tech who had been here just last August. He was supposed to return today with the part needed (quoted me $799 for the part, plus another $225 service call) and then they called and said they refused to come back because my daughter called to question what they had done. We were told with that service we would get weekly service or cleaning, we said great, 12 days into this no one from their company had came to service it or call and give us a reason why. We called them and asked why, first excuse was they forgot to put us on the schedule, then we were told sorry two of our trucks broke down, both of those are company issues not the customers. I asked if we could get a partial refund and was offered 3.00 I said but you did not fulfill your agreement they said oh well. Bad customer service that offered excuses but would not deliver what they agreed on with servicing but you still have to pay full price for what you don't receive. Horrible customer service. We were to have our RV holding tank pumped on Wednesday. When they didn't show, the dispatcher said that they had poor cell coverage and couldn't contact the driver. They never showed and didn't call. Thursday morning they said they had equipment problems, but would be there later. Not only is their customer service great their pricing is also. I had an issue with two toilets not flushing in my house so I called for a septic pump, figuring that was the issue. The nice guy who came to pump assured me it wasn't going to solve the problem (which was very honest of him!) But I opted to have it done anyhow since he was here. I called them back for a jetter truck to jet the lines and clear the problem and was originally told they couldn't get anyone out until Monday (this was Friday afternoon). I told them I had to get it done sale day and I'd call around but before I could do that they called me back and told me their guys agreed to stay late to come jet my lines, for no extra cost. The guys showed up around 4 and didn't leave until after 9, not until they were sure the problem had been fixed. And the jetter was only $375, less than flowhocks had quoted me for regular hours service. Their crew was great, super knowledgeable and helpful and determined to make sure my problems were solved. They also did the septic inspection when I bought my house 4 years ago and I was pleased with them then. I've used some other companies (flowhaks) but I'll be sticking to Hemley's from now on. read more

They explained everything they were doing as the process was being done. I learned quite a bit of stuff from them as well. I was also informed on maintenance for the system through these two and the do's and don't's for keeping the system running efficiently. We used Hemley's to pump our septic tanks (we have 2 on the property). We're selling our house and it is required before you hand the keys over to the new owner. We called Hemley's Septic to come and pump both houses, and paid for them to file the reports with the county. After they took our money, they told us the person who did the county filings was sick and we'd have to do it ourselves, but a refund check would be in the mail. I filed the reports with the county - and paid for them again. After not getting a refund check for a week I started calling them. Over the last week, I've left 4 messages for the accounting person and have talked with probably 3 office people and no one can tell me when we will get our money back. $550 will not break the bank, but it's the principle. I was even told that there is no one higher up than the accountant that I can speak with (since the accountant won't call me back). They also don't know how to get in touch with Jerry Hemley, the owner. Apparently, he has no cell phone or email address. Seriously, who does that? What kind of business keeps your money and ignores you when they know they didn't do what you paid them to do? Bad business!! read more

These guys pumped my tank which is located under my wife's decorative fairy garden sort of a thing. They excavated and replaced the whole situation after cleaning the tank. They were diligent and respectful of my property as well as being pleasant and affable and efficient. I have absolutely no issue with the cost of the service either. Additionally, the lady who answered my initial call and scheduled my service was also worthy of mention. The last time I used Hemley's for the same system was in 2014 when as a precaution, not knowing when it had been serviced before, I had my tank pumped. We hired Hemley's to do a pre-sale inspection and paperwork for the county. When they came the guy told me that he was having trouble with his meter and it could be the meter or it could be our connector. He was going to get a new meter and try again. They did their work and then came to the door, had me sign the paperwork and pay, and then they left. He did not report any problems and the paperwork said they were finished and all work had been completed with nothing more needed. A week later they still had not submitted the paperwork and I called to find out why. I was told that they were not able to take the readings from my system and needed to replace the circuit board (the AAA battery had previously died). The woman on the phone was horrible to work with. I finally agreed to have them do the repair. When the guy came out he had me sign the paperwork and pay before he started. He then told me that the system was actually working fine and he had already taken the needed readings on a previous trip, so the board did not actually even need to be replaced, just that they thought it "might fail" in the future. This is fraud. I tried reaching management in the office several times and nobody ever got back to me. They overcharged me about $900. I do plan to take them to small claims court and report them as well. read more

I would never recommend Hemleys. Their office staff is rude and dismissive. They would not call back and continously " forgot" to send us E-Mails. They informed us when they pumped that there were inconsistencies with the prior pumping reports and that things were not done properly in the first place. We were told that things should have been taken care of prior to us purchasing our house in order to pass inspection. We were told it needed to be on risers and said it had not been properly pumped prior, if ever. This led to 2 weeks worth of stress, calls and emails. Well we were finally able to talk to speak with the previous company, they came out to try and fix the mistake Hemleys had said they made. Come to find out Hemleys was not accessing our septic properly and that it was already at the proper height. Hemleys did not pump properly and 2 weeks later, we had needing it to be cleaned and pumped again. I have used Hemley at my current home and my previous. Was always satisfied. Last time that they were out here they replaced a part in my panel and one of my floats and pumped all my tank. That was 2 years ago. I now getting letters from the county saying that I need a 3 year inspection. They never filed with the county. I called the county about this and they said all Hemly needed to do was to upload the file to the county. The lady at hemley told me that the inspection and the pumping and repair are 2 separate things. They are if you are trying to play someone stupid. Trying to gouge someone on their inspections. How can you do a pump and repair without doing an inspection. I've been a loyal customer for over 25 years with them. Money is more important than customer service. I did like the technician but the front office needs to rethink their policies. MY pump just failed. I'm going elsewhere. read more

I first called them when I had a septic slow down,on 4/26/2017. I dug up the septic myself but being inexperienced, I thought there was only one outlet that needed dug out. The truck driver was helpful,Matt, and looked in and told me " it did not need pumped out" but he would still have to charge me a service call which is almost as much as the pump out. So I said to go head pump out anyway since I was planning on putting my house up for sale. He then told me that he would have to dig out the other opening since they are 2 chambers. He helped with the shovel and quickly was able to chop 2 irrigation lines in half. He was very apologetic and I know that it was only part of his fault since the previous owner had the lines installed over the septic. I told him not to worry i could fix that and he agreed to not charge me the $80 for the dig out fee and would give me a $20 coupon to offset. I was fine with that and fixed my own irrigation lines. Fast forward to July my house sold and now I learn that I need an OEM from the septic company. The pump out slip was not good enough for the county that was filled out in April ( at least according to the septic company). I was told that often times the company can just convert the slip to the proper form and send to the county. When I called there office to ask I was informed that it was around $189 plus $54 fee to file it for the county. Now the county then sends out an inspector and they CHARGE ANOTHER $250 to do the same thing so you are getting double charged. Now I know that if I had been doing more research and been more experienced with the Govt/ septic bureaucracy of Pierce county it may have been less costly so I am as much at fault. It would be nice if this state got its act together and unified all septic laws so that we can all know what the hell we are supposed to do. I had just finished buying a home in Stevens Co. and they do not apparently give a rat's behind if you even get it pumped. I insisted on that myself but no inspector no fees etc. I think a truly reputable business would cut you a break or least explain things better hence only 2 stars! If Matt had not been a nice guy and help me fix my problem I would give them . I will not use them for my OEM I will contact another company even if it costs me more. read more
