WOW. Just WOW. Adrian made what is often a difficult and painful process genuinely enjoyable. He's a kind human, takes tremendous pride in his work, and I am honestly amazed by the final result. He was on time (actually a little early!), on budget, and made the entire process--from planning through post-work--feel smooth and well managed. He's hands-on, organized, and incredibly thoughtful. He explained everything clearly, answered my many questions with patience, and approached decisions creatively and collaboratively whenever tradeoffs came up. When choosing a general contractor, you want someone honest, reliable, and excellent at what they do. Adrian is all of that--and more. After months of working together, I'd honestly consider him a friend. When I have another remodel or addition to do, he will absolutely be my first call. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He's a joy to work with, and you won't regret choosing him.

We worked with Adrian Smith of Adrian Smith Construction for our full demolish-and-rebuild project,…read moreand we couldn't recommend him more highly. We were first introduced to Adrian through a friend, and after meeting him and reading all of his great reviews, we knew he was the right fit. He came across as honest, fair, and dependable -- and that impression held true throughout the entire project. From August 2023 to July 2025, Adrian helped us transform our old 1940s 2-bedroom, 1-bath home into a modern 4-bedroom, 3-bath home. We asked him to help us take the project all the way through to the certificate of occupancy, while staying mindful of our budget. Although the project took a bit longer than planned -- partly due to our own design changes and some city staffing delays -- Adrian was always on schedule, responsive, and accountable on his end. What really stands out about Adrian is his meticulous attention to detail. We didn't work with a designer, but Adrian became a trusted sounding board for design recommendations, offering thoughtful input on everything from stucco finishes to flooring layouts, tile patterns, and even how to best position cabinet handles and door hardware. His craftsmanship and aesthetic sense elevated the entire project. Adrian also personally handled the installation of our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and the results are stunning -- the precision and care in his work really show. Beyond his skill, he's just a genuinely good person -- patient, communicative, and committed to doing things right. We're so grateful to have worked with Adrian. Building a home from the ground up is never simple, but with Adrian, we always felt confident and supported. We highly recommend Adrian Smith Construction to anyone looking for a reliable, skilled, and detail-oriented general contractor who truly cares about his clients and their homes.

The owners are very knowledgeable and detail oriented and they have assembled a team of quality craftspeople who take pride in their work. They built us a beautiful bathroom, moving doors and plumbing and reconfiguring the whole room. They also fixed some problems they found along the way and they problem-solved for some tricky sloping floors. They are very easy to work with as well. All in all, they made the entire experience easy and pleasant and our whole bottom floor is more functional and beautiful. Huge thanks to Ciaran, Mark, and the whole team!

For context on the scope of work, we moved our kitchen, removed a bathroom, added a bathroom, replaced doors, added skylights, and redid almost all of the electrical and plumbing in a house that was originally built in 1908 and hadn't been updated since the 70s. They went down to the studs on half the house and we have basically a new house coming out of it. We worked with Mark and Ciaran and the project took 6 months. We'd highly recommend working with Mizen and we'd use them again in a heartbeat. We feel like they delivered an excellent product, were highly communicative, stayed on budget, and we'll definitely be using them again for any future work. So the short of it is that Mizen was fantastic but below are a few more thoughts on specific areas.  Work quality - Mark and Ciaran are craftsmen and they have a strong attention to detail. We felt like they were thoughtful throughout the entire process. It was clear they were very focused on delivering an excellent project rather than optimizing for what was easier or faster for them. They sweat the details. There were also areas that we didn't know to ask for but they pushed on. As an example, they laid the tile in our kitchen such that the midline of the tile hit the center of our oven perfectly. That wasn't something we asked for, it wasn't in the architects plans, and I'm sure it required extra work, but they did it and it's one of the subtle details I most appreciate about the kitchen.  Budget  - My wife and I were quite focused on costs for our project. We found Mizen very reasonably priced and responsive to our budget. They were only slightly higher than some of the other options we considered but we felt like their work quality would be better. We also thought their cost estimate was more thoughtful and therefore less likely to be wildly over budget relative to the alternatives. We did end up going slightly over our original budget but for two reasons that were outside of Mizen's control. The first was around some unforeseen structural issues that they discovered upon opening the walls. We have an old house and anticipated some changes like this. It came out to ~2% of our overall budget and we ended up very glad that they addressed these underlying issues. The second area where we went over our original budget was for things we decided to add mid-construction. We ended up replacing some doors and making a few minor cosmetic changes while we were doing the other work. Again, we're very glad we did it and don't regret the increase. For all the change orders we added, we never felt like Mizen was pressuring us or doing it just to drive up the bill. We felt like they had our budget and overall best interest in mind throughout.  Timing - The project ended up going over our original target by 3 weeks. On a 6 month project that happened in the middle of the tariff blow up, we felt like it was a pretty great outcome. We feel like they made a big push at the end to get us back in the house ahead of a hard deadline we had.  Other - We felt like the Mizen team was also great about dealing with our neighbors. There were a few areas where they want above and beyond what the structural engineer recommended and didn't charge us for it. I've already recommended Mizen to multiple friends. They're fantastic and we'd love to work with them again.

We had a tight 3 month timeline because we had a baby on the way and we needed to stick to the budget. Our job had several complexities, including moving a toilet, moving walls, relocating an exterior doorway, switching from a gas to an induction range, and navigating some tricky permitting issues with some old construction that had been done by the prior owners. Valex did an amazing job, and they were enjoyable to work with. Despite the tight timeline, they took the time to do things right and we couldn't be happier with the end result. We were able to move back in before the baby arrived and we're so excited to be in our new space. After the remodel, they checked in several times and offered to come back to touch up small details where we had feedback. Thanks for everything Konstantin & Val, I appreciate all of the hard work that you put into making our space into a home for our growing family.

Project managers were knowledgeable and kept the project moving forward. We finished on time despite a product delay that was outside their control. They demonstrated excellent work ethic and played close attention to detail. We appreciated their honesty as surprises almost always come up during a remodel, but we never felt like they were pushing anything extra or unnecessary. Admittedly, we were probably what you'd call "high maintenance" at times and they were kind and patient with us throughout. We would hire them again!

A $200K price jump, all because of fuel costs?!…read more Generations Builders gave us a written bid for a full renovation. We called to award them the job, and that's when they said hold on we're increasing the price to you by $200,000. Their explanation was gas and other costs had gone up. Mind you this was in a very short timeframe. In our view, fuel costs don't come close to explaining a $200,000 price increase! We asked for a basic takeoff or line-item breakdown to support the new number, but in our view it did not justify a $200,000 increase. If a contractor can't justify a $200K change before any work starts, I wouldn't trust them once the walls are open.

I cannot recommend this company enough. The one thing that might be an issue with AC Construction is that they do not offer any design services. You have to know what you want. Seemed like a very hardworking crew. At the end of the job, there were some areas that needed attention but once I pointed them out, Mauri had no problem coming back to fix them. The only other complaint I have is that their clean up wasn't always the best. Something else worth mentioning is that he came in significantly cheaper than all of the other contractors bidding on the job. So really, I don't have many complaints considering his price was that good and they did a good job

Given the scope of the project, I went through several contractors (including firing our original contractor, ouch!) before deciding on Edgar and his team, and in the end, I'm so glad we did. Some of the things I appreciated - 1. Edgar is highly knowledgeable about the construction process. He was able to anticipate the problems and call them out in a timely fashion. He would make onsite videos explaining the issue, which made life easier for me when I needed to communicate with my structural engineer or the architect. He also advised me on possible solutions, their pros and cons with cost estimates, so I had more information when making a final decision. 2. Knows and follows city code, which made the inspection process very smooth. Edgar also kept me updated on the city code that might come in the way of my design vision, which allowed me to course correct or find an alternative. This saved us a lot of mistakes. 3. Detailing is the biggest challenge for any project. This is when the whole design and the vision come to life. I'm definitely very specific about attention to detail, and this is where Edgar and his team really shined. From the tile work to carpentry to railings and other details - the work was done with great attention to detail and quality! Edgar would routinely check the work, and point out any misses to his workers before even I got an opportunity to raise concerns. While the project was extremely challenging, Edgar and his team made life much easier. We're grateful to Edgar and his team for helping us build our dream home, and bringing our vision to life. :) I've already recommended him to a few friends and would be happy to work with him again in the future.
