Initially this seemed like a good experience. The company is responsive and is willing to give…read morerapid estimates (and revisions to those estimates). The work was done quickly, and we thought to our satisfaction. Communication between myself and the team doing the work (via the project manager) wasn't seamless, so there were a few issues there. Some of that was on me, though - I requested a couple of changes that weren't on the original scope of work and Joseph agreed to them, which was lovely, and that information was a bit unclear due to the last-minute changes. That said, while I was initially understanding of the errors they made (there were several) because the company was responsive and made corrections, this past week I discovered an error that was significant (and it's far too late to really be willing to accept a correction - I don't want my yard torn up again at this point). Part of my yard design was "planting areas" where I would install my own plants, as this company does not do that. They were laid out using bender board, and were supposed to contain soil (so that plants could be installed). These were covered with bark, like the rest of the yard, but with drip irrigation for the eventual plants. When I saw the bark going in, I asked the crew about the soil/planting area, and was told, "Yeah, it's okay, we're doing it." (There was a language barrier between myself and the crew doing the work.) This past weekend, I went to install plants I had purchased (as the weather has finally cooled), and discovered that the "planting areas" were no different under the bark than the rest of the yard - there was no soil, just the bark and the weed barrier. To be able to plant anything, I needed to cut through and remove some of the weed barrier, then install soil myself. This error is not small - it's completely different from what was contracted and agreed upon. The project manager should have checked that things were done as specified, and he did not. It should not be expected that a homeowner will dig under mulch to ensure that the expected soil is present, any more than a homeowner should watch to make sure drywall is correctly installed. As a result, I cannot recommend this company.

We had a massive water leak coming from our light well into our garage on Christmas Day and Asael came out to check super fast after we requested a quote. It was a difficult job to do in the tiny space, but he and his crew immediately created a tented area on our roof so no more water would come in and they could work while it was raining. His communication and updates were great and he kept us well informed with photos and messages. His crew were totally professional, friendly, and clean and we couldn't be happier with the end result. In the initial meeting with Project Manager Yves, he walked me through the process and answered my many questions. This was all very helpful as I have never done a kitchen reno before, and Yves demonstrated his knowledge and "can do" attitude. Yves also mentioned that the crew working on my kitchen would be dedicated to my project until it was done, a big plus in my opinion. After this meeting I felt reasonably confident that A2Z Remodeling was a good choice. Prior to contacting A2Z I had gotten quotes from a few cabinet makers, thinking that A2Z would only provide general contractor services. But A2Z also has a cabinet design service, so they provided a quote. The design created by A2Z's designer, Marissa, was great so I had no concerns there. However, the quote was less pricey than all the other quotes and I then spent lots of time researching cabinet construction, trying (with limited success) to compare the quality of the materials used in the different bids. A2Z's cabinet supplier is Kraftview out of San Leandro, and ultimately, I went to their showroom in San Leandro to inspect the cabinets in person which and that alleviated all my concerns, they looked great and were very high quality (plywood construction, soft close, full extension drawers, etc.). I am very happy I chose A2Z to supply the cabinetry, for two big reasons: 1) Their supplier, Kraftview, is local, so fast turnaround. Some of the other quotes were for cabinets manufactured overseas and it would take months to get them. And if there were any problems, months to get replacements. And indeed, there was a couple problems with cabinets that needed correction and A2Z was able to get things fixed with only a small delay to the project. 2) A2Z was fully responsible for the cabinets: They took the measurements, did the design, ordered them, and installed them. If there were any problems or unexpected issues they took care of it. Whereas if another company was supplying the cabinets I expect I would have had been a lot more involved in resolving issues. One example is that when the demolition of the old kitchen was done, there was an unexpected pipe sticking out of the wall which we had not accounted for in the cabinet design, A2Z took care of it. Another example is that one of the cabinet fronts had some slight damage on it and A2Z had it replaced, I didn't even know about that until Yves mentioned it after the fact. The cabinet design process went really well. Marissa was fantastic to work with. Her design was great out of the gate and she was very open to iteration, mainly me changing little nitpicky things, then sometimes realizing it was a bad idea and changing it back. I visited their showroom in Oakland many times and it was really nice to be able to talk things over in person with her, and she gave me a ton of great suggestions. The crew working on the job were top notch. As promised, it was the same crew for the entire time and they took care of everything: Demolition, Plumbing, Electrical, Inspections, Floor Installation, Cabinet Installation, Appliance Installation, Painting, Lighting. They were careful to keep things clean and not damage floor, doors or anything. They abided by the HOA rules, and I received no complaints from my neighbors. Along the way there were small hiccups and bumps, but nothing major and A2Z would take care of it. One example was that some of the cabinets arrived missing the grooves needed to install the LED lights, there were a few options on how to proceed and I thought we could make one of the lesser options works, but Yves convinced me that we shouldn't take shortcuts and we took them back to the factory to get properly fixed. And during the job itself, they had to take the crew off of our job for an "emergency" somewhere else, leaving a big gap where there wasn't any progress while we had an active construction site at our house. I understand some level of scheduling issues but this was really frustrating. So overall, I'd say all of this put a really bad taste in my mouth, and I'd be really torn on whether to work with them again. Our house needed new fascia and soffits and a new balcony cap, and after seeing a few houses with natural wood soffits, I wanted to change the plan from matching the existing painted soffits. This was no problem for Edri and they helped select a beautiful cedar wood and brought the vision to life. The work went pretty much as planned with some minor delays for expected things--weather, etc. No nightmares where the work gets behind and you have no idea when it will be done. Communication was so great and everyone who worked on our house was professional and friendly. They even arranged to take their lunch breaks when our kid had her nap. Isaac would come out at the end of major milestones to inspect the work with me and make sure I was happy. Minor issues I found were addressed with no hassle. I would consider this a challenging project as we had limited space to work with and wanted to build in more counter/cabinet space while also adding in a dishwasher and replacing other appliances. This required new electrical and plumbing. The team was unfazed by the scope and was ready to start following week. From the outset, the process was highly organized making decisions simple and hands-off as possible for us. They immediately sought out all required permits while keeping us informed on the important details only and handling all the permitting minutia themselves. David and his team completed every aspect of the job with pride and precision. The team were true masters in their trades and completed all parts of the job from plumbing electrical drywall appliance installation tiling - everything from start to finish. They were also friendly and took extreme care to protect all common areas.
