From the first time I…read morereached out to him, he was very patient and forthcoming with me, even offering advice and guidance with how best to get started with approaching the city, as well as assessing bids. We have a three-story Victorian that needed the original brick foundation replaced, as the condition was very deteriorated and well past its useful life. Jim came out to assess the situation and wasn't intimidated at all. He is a straight shooter and tells it as it is, and our job was going to be a major one. I picked Jim because he truly knows his craft and enjoys what he does. Plus he doesn't sugarcoat the inevitable surprises that will arise (plus he has a wicked sense of humor and some great stories to share). We started in the middle of last Summer and finished right on schedule during early Fall. I will be the first to say that it was a huge capital investment to undertake: excavating, removing the original perimeter foundation and shoring up the massive structure, while ultimately putting rebar and pouring the new concrete. I was quite nervous about all of the things that could have gone wrong, but Jim communicated constantly throughout the process and made sure his men were on task and doing quality work. Mid-way through, we had a incident where the sprinklers were inadvertantly triggered overnight, causing water to flood into the trenches. Jim came out immediately with his men after they became aware of the situation (even though it happened on the Labor Day holiday) and personally went to work to shore up the beams that were supporting the house and checking and double-checking any structural weakness caused by the water. Because of his diligence and attentiveness, I honestly felt like we averted a major catastrophe. Jim treated our home with the care and attention he would have given had it been his own home. He has a penchant for finding creative solutions to deal with a host of unexpected problems, and through it all, he was punctual, steadfast and very thorough with his oversight, being on-site every day. We have now moved on to our next phase of the project, but without Jim Patterson & Co, we literally wouldn't have a solid foundation for which to proceed. My thanks to him and his team for the transformative work they did to our forever home.

Last summer Jim and his crew replaced our 130 yr old brick foundation. It was a huge job and we shopped it around, but Jim's estimate came in at the bottom end of the range. What really won us over, however, Jim's approach. He is old school and dedicated to the craft - you could just tell by the way he approached the bid and the conversations w/ the Engineer. And he did not disappoint. He showed up early every morning, had his crew in line and busy every moment of the working day. His guys respected him and all mentioned how much they learned working w/ Jim. I was pretty hands-on, crawling around and checking things. Jim helped me understand all of the parts of the process and how he was making key decisions. He was patient w/ my questions and often went the extra mile to keep me happy. For example, I needed to replace some drainage and he had his guys dig up the concrete on the side of the house to help me out (definitely NOT in the contract). There are also little personal touches that you can't pay for. When his crew found an antique bottle from the SF Dairy Company, Jim put it by the front door with a little note - he knew that this kind of thing would matter to us. Anyway, the job was done on budget and ahead of schedule with great communication throughout. Most importantly, Jim always worked with us to resolve any issues (real or perceived) that I came to him with over the course of the project. Five stars!!

Jose designed and fixed the area in a way that properly blocks the water and also looks very nice, clean, and professional. On the last day of the cleanup, they cleaned everything very well. Junior is very friendly, and just like Jose, he is very helpful. Jose is not only experienced in concrete work -- he also has experience handling many different types of issues. He is very patient in answering questions and clearly explains what he is doing and why it is done. I truly appreciate their hard work, and I will definitely work with them again in the future.

Foundation Repair of CA (FRC) is the most disreputable, dishonest company I've ever encountered. I…read morehired them because I didn't want to hire the lowest bidder for a change, and I regret it. I wouldn't sign the contract when told I'd have to do my own masonry repair until sales agent Jesse Marquez showed me FRC corporate material that indicated the brick facade would be removed with a masonry saw, in an approximate 2x2' square. That was false and deceptive advertising. This is what they did to my house. No masonry saw was used, only impact drills, which act as small jackhammers. FRC significantly damaged the entire brick facade, adjacent areas showed extensive cracking, entire areas had the brick facade knocked completely off the house, and the wall foundation was separated from the brick wall entirely. I told the work crew, headed by Luis, to stop using impact wrenches on the bricks immediately, then told them TWICE. Not only did they not stop, despite direct STOP work orders, they then took all of the bricks they'd destroyed, which legally is theft, called conveyance. Jesse Marquez explained that the bricks were so old they'd shattered. Luis returned the bricks after Jesse Marquez called, ignoring my several phone calls and texts. Jesse texted that the bricks were so old they'd shattered. Luis returned them, none were shattered, all were broken by the impact drills. Luis confirmed, texting that the bricks were "broken". They took the bricks to hide the damage. The day FRC received my Contractor's State Licensing Board complaint, FRC messaged that someone would come to assess the damage for repairs, and FRC would repair the masonry they'd destroyed. They first sent Robert Pagan, who acknowledged both that there were no masonry saw marks, and that the damage was excessive. According to FRC, Jesse stated Robert hadn't said this. It wasn't until I pointed out he'd said it while standing in front of a Ring camera did that lie die. FRC then sent Troy Knight, who acknowledged the same, and stated he was there to help, and would see that the masonry was repaired and more. I have several texts, voicemails and emails from FRC stating they will complete the job. They never did. FRC employee Mike Crites was sent to perform the repairs. He returned the following week with the wrong sized bricks in the wrong color, and proceeded to do more damage. This is the work that they did. FRC employee Mike Crites initially stated that he had retired as a mason, he later revised that statement, saying he'd only worked with pavers and concrete. The work performed was so substandard, FRC sent Jovincio, who was the only honest person in my entire dealings with FRC. Jovencio said he wasn't a mason, but had "some training". Jovencio replaced the work done by Mike Crites. This is Mike's effort, and Jovincio's replacement work. The work performed is clearly substandard and unacceptable. FRC acknowledged the workers sent lacked the skills, training and necessary certifications to perform masonry repairs. When I requested that FRC send a mason, and included photos of the work, FRC responded that they'd done me a favor; the workers sent were a courtesy. The very clause they'd ignored (and invalidated) by removing the bricks was cited. That they would do no more, leaving me with the bill for their damage. This is what they left. I obtained a second quote to repair the deficient masonry 'work' FRC workers had done - without a REQUIRED permit, with no mortar pins, odd-sized and broken bricks mortared in randomly, mortar lines that range from non-existent to more than an inch. Crites' also removed the brick facade foundation in several sections, replacing it with sloppy concrete. This is a code-violating 'repair' that is neither plumb nor square. The legitimate mason company from whom I obtained a repair quote updated the quote, which has nearly doubled BECAUSE of the 'repairs' performed by the unqualified FRC employees. FRC called this doing me a favor, saying the inept crew was sent as a 'courtesy'. This is not doing me a favor, this is not a courtesy, this is at best fraud. After signing the contract (under false pretenses), Jesse insisted I needed an additional pier ($3,155) because piers can no longer be placed under a window. A pier was placed under the window. Two other piers were not placed according to the county approved structural engineering ($1,850) diagram. Half the piers were installed in the wrong places, apparently according to Luis' whims. Yesterday Groundworks gave an estimate on properly placing those piers. That's how I learned that the improperly placed piers had lifted a joist completely off its foundation supports. This, too, will require additional expense to correct, before it damages my house - literally to the roof. I should have stuck with Groundworks. This is your cautionary tale - no one who values integrity, ESPECIALLY senior women, shouldn't hire FRC.

From the moment he took on our project, he and his team were nothing short of professional, knowledgeable, and meticulous. Mick's expertise in structural work was evident in every step of the repair process. He fixed the damage caused by the previous contractors, and the quality of his work is outstanding. He was transparent about the scope of the work and kept us informed throughout the project. He even provided me with the clear steps I needed to take, which included meeting with the Engineer of Record and the City Inspector. He would also call me over every time there was a discovery, so I could document everything for the bond claims. A small area of my concrete driveway needed to be repaired due to cracks and unevenness. The…read moreinitial communication was rapid and an appointment was made for an estimate; however, SF Gonzalez Concrete did not show up and no phone call was received regarding cancellation. After contacting them, they apologized and another appointment was set up. During the appointment, SF Gonzalez Concrete said they would give two estimates for each of the two options discussed. A week later, I received an email stating the minimum cost for the job. That's all the information I received. I clarified that two estimates were agreed upon for the two options. Not hearing from them for over a week, I contacted them. They said that they could not send out anyone for another estimate, and the estimate already was sent. I was not expecting nor did I ask that they send someone out again. When I asked about the estimate that was given, I received an email that copied the earlier email stating the minimum amount for the job. I didn't realize that qualified as an estimate. It's only a feeling, but I think that they really weren't interested because my job was small. I certainly would have appreciated it if they had said so in the beginning since that would have saved me from several weeks of delay.

So, just know that any job can (and probably will) cost lots more. This isn't their fault, just how these jobs go. They did a good job uncovering all of the damage and carefully repaired everything. I am very pleased with the work that they did for me. They were very knowledgeable about what they were doing. I have had some remodeling experience, so when they explained things, my construction knowledge told me they were knowing what they were taking about. What I didn't know, they were more than happy to take time and explain it to me. I especially liked how they cleaned up the job site every day. I would recom them highly. Good job guys!

I was impressed with Edwin and crew's care and diligence on site, They made sure to carefully protect surrounding areas, while basically taking the kitchen apart. We were so pleased with the final outcome. Not only did Mel and Edwin bring everything up to code, they greatly improved the overall aesthetics. It's everything around that which was challenging. When they originally came to scope the project out we explicitly talked about some extra things - but then at the end of the job they said they actually weren't in scope and wanted me to pay extra. Then, when I held back on paying the final bill until that was resolved, they unwarned put a mechanic's lien on our house. Also I'm nervous about their billing setup generally - it got hacked last year and I almost got scammed out of $11k. And during the job itself, they had to take the crew off of our job for an "emergency" somewhere else, leaving a big gap where there wasn't any progress while we had an active construction site at our house. I understand some level of scheduling issues but this was really frustrating. So overall, I'd say all of this put a really bad taste in my mouth, and I'd be really torn on whether to work with them again. The work was tremendous but I can live without surprise interruptions and liens on my house.

Their drivers who did not speak English called their office and we spoke to Sergio Gomez, the Project Manager who asked us to call the next day to discuss insurance details. From our pictures it clearly shows that their TAG license was EXPIRED, and the Truck Registration and Insurance were also EXPIRED. NEEDLESS TO SAY, SERGIO GOMEZ never returned our numerous calls. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!

We called their office for an idea of when to expect the estimate and were told on three different occasions that they would send over the bid "tomorrow." Over a week and half went by before we finally gave up on waiting and hired another company. What an absolute waste of our time and energy. If you want to hire someone professional, who will give you the courtesy of a response and uphold their word- go with someone else. Two stars is being generous.
