We just completed a significant dry-rot repair project with Matthew Kelly for our 6-unit building in Noe Valley, and we could not have been more pleased with the results. What started out as standard deck repairs to satisfy the new California laws that have taken effect lead into additional non-related wood rot issues that Matthew brought to my attention. His level of competence, communication, and work ethic is everything we wanted and needed for a project that requires third-party certification and long-term protection for our building. His crews were respectful of tenants in the building, had great attention to detail, and left the property spotlessly clean before completion. This level of construction and repair is not the situation where you go with the lowest bid, his pricing was in the middle of the quotes we received which was absolutely fine considering how smoothly the entire experience went. We will absolutely be contacting him before any other contractor when we need additional work done on our building. read more

I initially contracted with Matthew Kelly to rebuild the stairs and wall framing. After interviewing several contractors, Matthew stood out for his sincerity, transparency, and professionalism. As the project progressed, the scope expanded to include a new foundation, new siding, plumbing, windows, and a complete rebuilding of a portion of the duplex. Throughout the process, Matthew managed the project with care and attention, coordinating each phase and keeping communication clear, responsive, and reassuring. I also want to commend Kela, his assistant, for her prompt responses and thoughtful status updates. I always felt informed about the project's progress and budget, which gave me real peace of mind. We hired Matthew Kelly to undertake extensive and complex repairs--including serious structural issues-- to mitigate dry rot damage to the large front porch, many windows, and front facade of our 26 year old bayside brown shingle Marin home. We feel fortunate to have found Matthew to take on this large and challenging project and are highly satisfied with the outcome his company produced. Matthew was at all times courteous, respectful, and professional; a highly-skilled and resourceful problem-solver; a daily and highly detail-oriented communicator and collaborator. He was especially thoughtful and attentive to our needs when the work intruded upon our living space interior over the holidays. . Matthew's crew was incredibly hard-working, reliable, respectful, and efficient. Every job was thoroughly prepped in advance and our property and furnishings protected. The job site was always clean and well-organized. Matthew's admin and project manager Kela Cabrales provided the most beautifully detailed invoices imaginable, itemized with receipts, down to the penny. Since quality clearly attracts quality, we were also pleased with the vendors Matthew sub-contracted with for flooring, drywall, painting, windows. Matthew is a rare find in the world of contractors, a person with an indefatigable work ethic, an impressive skill set and complete personal integrity. We are pleased to recommend Matthew Kelly Construction without reservation. read more

Matthew Kelly Construction recently completed a partial foundation replacement and dry rot repairs for my house in San Francisco. Matthew took a lot of time to talk about the project with me to ensure we were all on the same page. He had a very detailed and clear estimate and contract. Since this was a major structural repair on an old house, I was a bit nervous. But Matthew worked closely with the structural engineer and made sure all the temporary shoring was solid. The house did not move even a fraction of an inch. They also did a great job keeping the construction site orderly and clean and finished within schedule and budget. As we were wrapping up, Matthew took care to make sure I was happy with every last detail. Strong professionalism and craftsmanship. read more

The quality of the workmanship was very high and Matthew kept us constantly appraised as the jobs progressed. He even communicated with the neighbors to ensure they remained fully supportive throughout. His workers were skilled, courteous and friendly. At the end of each project, they cleaned the work site meticulously. I highly recommend Matthew Kelly Construction. read more

We love, love, love Matthew and Kela! They are so thorough with their pre-work and thoughtful before they even pick up a tool that you are going to get exactly what they promise and, while it might not be the cheapest of your bids, though definitely not the most expensive either, the best thing about them (aside from the great work) is that there aren't going to be any negative surprises (like with most of the other guys). You can count on what they say, they show up when they say they will, and their team is top notch. Matthew Kelly Construction does a beautiful job and they are a joy to work with...we will absolutely go back to them for any future projects! read more

I was desperate when the main sewer line went bad on my property, and was backing up awful gunk everywhere. I needed someone honest to come diagnose, tear out a ton on concrete, dig, redo everything. My bids were all over the map. Matthew Kelly came as a recommendation from a neighbor. He and his crew were on time, did more work than I'd anticipated, explained everything to me, and actually diagnosed the problem accurately. He ended up planning a whole plan of attack. At the end of the day, I ended up with an all new sewer line, but due to his vision, I also ended up with a gorgeous garden, tons of concrete removed, and a transformed place to call home. I owe it all to Matthew. I never knew that a bad yucky disaster would end up making my enjoyment of my home 100 times better--my kids and I built a homey garden where before was a concrete disaster. I think the work he spearheaded added three times the value to the property. His bid was not the lowest, was not the highest, but I had a thoroughly positive experience and was always happy when I saw him. Every person to whom I've recommended Matthew has raved about him. His honesty won the day. read more

Matthew Kelly and his team did an excellent job on my structurally-complex fire repair construction; I can't recommend them highly enough. Matthew immediately recognized critical issues that everyone else had initially missed. He responded very quickly to my communications, gave thoughtful and informed suggestions throughout, and his price estimates were spot on. The project came in on time and on budget, and everything looks great. Plus, Matthew and every person in his team was thoughtful, friendly and helpful: a pleasure to interact with and have around. They also did a great job cleaning up. In fact, I'm already looking to hire him again for another project. read more

We hired Matthew for some moderate updates to our home: replacing window trim and baseboards, molding, replacing light fixtures, building out a new custom closet, and painting. The work of his team was stellar and we could not be more pleased with how everything turned out! Matthew is very detail oriented and easy to communicate with, starting with the initial quote and continuing throughout the project. Matthew gave us excellent suggestions and advice when we were unsure of how to best approach certain changes. We highly recommend Matthew and his team and hope to work with him again in the future. read more

The fence that I share with my next door neighbor fell in November of 2019 and we inquired for fence repair and replacement on here, and MK Constructions was one who responded back. Matt was prompt with his responses on here, including scheduling an estimates of the fence work. His assessment and estimate was quite competitive with the other companies who came and offered theirs. Once the work started, Matthew gave us a start date, informed us how long the work is going to take and had the final estimates documented for our review. I found our working relationship to be clear and concise, and clarifications were offered if there were any questions. MK Construction comes highly recommended as I would reach out to Matt for any future construction work. read more

We hired Matthew for a voluntary strengthening project after he was referred to us by our engineer. This included adding shear walls, blocking, and adding bolts to the foundation, as well as arranging for a special inspector, arranging, and leading all inspections. This was our first time having such a project done on our house, and Matthew was fantastic to work with. He explained the project every step of the way, provided very accurate timing estimates, answered all of our questions patiently, and left us confident that we knew what was certain, and where we may come to some crossroads at which point we might need to have a conversation and make decisions. When we did need to engage with a plumber, Matthew was flexible to meet our preferred plumber's schedule for them to move pipes as he installed the shear walling, and he arranged an electrician to move the piping that was in the way. We communicated via email, text, and spoke a couple of times during the project, and the carpenter & laborer he brought onto the project were also friendly and great to work with. Highly recommended! read more

Matthew and his team do great work! We selected Matthew Kelly Construction after a referral from friends after several contractors put in bids. This is not the case where the lowest bid wins, instead it was the proposal process that stands out. MK's attention to detail, estimation, and callouts of risk areas were essential for our project. We required a structural foundation, and shoring to hold our second story deck and roof in place throughout. Other bidders had difficulty articulating a shoring approach. Matthew and his team did a great job proposing a solution. We began with a small pre-construction contract to make sure upper deck cantilever supports were sound - they were, and that reassurance really helped us, esp. when there is so much on the line. Once work began, they did a great job communicating, keeping the jobsite clean, and helping coordinate engineering alignment and inspections. They moved quickly to get things done before the rainy season began. They also helped us implement cripple wall earthquake retrofitting. We are planning to have them do more work for us in a few months. read more

We went through the process of getting a bid from Matt for a decent sized project. 4k was Matt's bid. The process involved accommodating Matt's schedule, et cetera. When we reached out to Matt after a few weeks to move forward we got no response. We waited and tried him by phone as well as email. Crickets. A short reply saying that he was too busy would've sufficed to help us get on with looking elsewhere instead of waiting a week for a reply. Annoying. read more

Matt is amazing! He is friendly, responsive, and personable. He helped us replace a dilapidated fence for our home. Our fence separates a busy street and sidewalk from our yard and we didn't want everything to be exposed for too long during construction (we live in SF city). Not only did Matt do a fantastic job at a reasonable rate, he went the extra mile and got the job done within one day! Our new fence is sturdy and looks great. Matt is a very skilled craftsman. He hauled away the old fence and even came back a week later to make sure all the old junk was fully removed from our yard. Five stars. Highly recommended. read more

Our fence blew down along with our neighbor's attached fence. Matthew was prompt with making an appointment and providing an estimate and he was patient whIle I awaited approval from my neighbor. He was a pleasure to work with and he and his crew did a great job building our new fence- with extra support so it can outlast all of the future wind storms! A one day job and my backyard look so CLEAN afterward- crew went beyond by cleaning up lots of dirt and leave debris that was there prior to their work. Thanks MK Construction! read more

Matthew's one of the best contractors I've worked with. He's done several projects for me, including building a fence, outdoor stairs and landing, and framing several rooms. He's always done an outstanding job. He consistently provides updates, clearly explains any issues, and listens to feedback. The work was high quality and projects completed on time, which is definitely a rarity in this industry. I've worked with a lot of contractors and Matthew definitely stands out as one of the great ones. read more

As a homeowner I discussed the possibility of creating an in-law unit in my garage with Matthew. His honesty and candid conversation with me was truly eye-opening. While the project I considered is way too costly for the benefits, I definitely recommend Matthew Kelly to anyone who wants a reputable and ethical company to work with. Even though we ultimately decided against moving forward I will be in touch with him for any future project ideas for my 100+ year old home. read more

Matt did a great job repairing my broken and falling fence! He was able to do the entire job in one day. He even fixed a gate of mine that was dragging and "catching" on the ground without my even asking him to do it. Very professional, informative, and friendly service. He explained the whole process to me, what the problems were, and how to avoid similar problems in the future. The job was very well done and the clean-up was very thorough. Matt and his friendly crew were great to work with. Matt is super responsive, delivered on time, followed up as needed and communicated projet deviations appropriately. I highly recommend working with Matt, you won't be disappointed. read more

Matt was responsive to the request for a quote, sent the quote back quickly and when we accepted was able to schedule the work also quickly. Speed when your fence needs repair is important...but what is really important to me is quality of work and character. Matt (and Kevin who was working with him) did a great demo and repair. THe yard and the house they had to travel throguh, where put back just as they found them. I highly recommend Matt Kelly. read more

The fence on one side of my yard fell over during a recent rain storm. Matt came out on Thanksgiving Day to give me an estimate; construction began early January and lasted 3 days. Care was also taken not to damage my artificial turf. I would recommend this crew to anyone. read more

MK Construction came highly recommended when it was time to replace our 80 ft. long redwood backyard fence. Their proposal for the job was detailed, making for a stronger fence/retaining wall than the other bids we obtained, and at a very fair and reasonable price. Matt replaced a fence on two of the three sides of our backyard. One side is level and the other side goes up a substantial hill. He came to do the estimate and talked about how he would replace the fence and pointed out issues that I had not thought about. He provided a timely estimate which was comparable to other estimates I had obtained. I decided to go with Matt because he seemed easy to communicate with, and said he would be involved with the work. He stayed in contact with me and showed up when he said he would. He was here with his crew everyday and they worked well together as a team. Matt was very open to discussing details as the project progressed and we now have a beautiful, stable fence that is just what I hoped it would be. I recommend Matt without reservations. read more
