Our favorite Italian is/was Angelini in Los Angeles. We spent the last 3 nights in Ketchum, ID. We came here all 3 nights to eat our way through this small but spectacular menu. We had a lovely dinner here last night as a group of 6- seated promptly on their beautiful patio and the tall, thin rosemary breadsticks they have on table waiting are pretty good (not great- we all would have preferred a bread basket- they tasted a bit stale and were flavorless even though they were clearly homemade). Our server Angela was very good and informative and did a great job. We shared the calamari to start- it was over cooked and the fry coating was way too brown. The aioli sauce to dip it in that it came with was flavorless. Bummer. We all got either salads or soup to start- the roasted pear salad I got was absolutely delicious and I would order again. The crab and avocado salad my husband got was also very good, as was the tomato bisque our daughter ordered. Two others got the special which was melon gazpacho and they enjoyed. One tomato bisque however took almost another 10 minutes to come out as they sent out a pear salad accidentally- which was weird bc when Angela came over she said where's your soup? So it was a kitchen error. For the main course we all had something different (fish special, pork, sausage pasta, pasta, ravioli, Diablo) and no one was blown away. I can speak for myself that my halibut with fig sauce over saffron risotto I could have made better myself- the figs were sliced way to big and chunky and not prepared well, just not palatable at all, and the saffron risotto was a waste of expensive saffron bc it was mushy and sadly way too over cooked. The halibut was cooked perfectly, however, and was delicious (sans figs). Our friend who ordered the ravioli waited for his dish while we all had to start so that our food wouldn't get cold- no idea why his took so much longer to come out. My husband's polenta was burnt on the outside but really good on the inside without the burnt crust. Normally I would give 3 stars but the atmosphere was really pleasant and food was good just not great- I truly think we hit an off night compared to other reviews posted so I don't want to fully deter others from trying this place out, but we would not go back. read more

Cute little place. Very nice, friendly staff. I'd eat there again. Seems like a locals place where you might get better service if you knew someone who worked there. We had the beet salad, the crab cake, the grilled avo salad, and the squid. The food was all pretty good, if a little boring. The beet salad was just... some beets with a goat cheese smear. I love a good beet salad, but they take a little effort to make interesting. The grilled avo was also interesting as a concept. Pretty good. Again, not terribly interesting or flavorful. Likewise for the calamari and crab cake. Good. Not great. The crab cake, in particular, was pretty salty and heavy with a cream sauce on the crab. The service, while friendly, was distracted with chatting and slow. We started signaling our intent to leave with our utensils, then our napkins on our plates, then flat-out verbally asking for the check... and waiting... while people chatted and meandered around. We're definitely not type-A, but it was pretty comical how long it took. Decent place for dinner, and I think it might be a good hang-out if you want to get a bottle of wine and just chat the night away. read more

Come on, Sun Valley! We need to support this small intimate wonderful restaurant! The pear salad was among the best salads I've ever had. The handmade ravioli appetizer was a mix of fresh ingredients and delicious flavors. The steak was perfection and there was a generous portion of fabulous roasted potatoes and vegetables. This place was so good we ate here twice in just a few days. Lamb, swordfish, seafood pasta, Diablo were all amazing! The panacotta was wonderful but the best dessert ever was a cinnamon custard with amaretto was just absolutely out of this world! The ambience and staff were amazing! Endured the Valentines crowd to have a nice dinner with my love. We shared the crabcakes with an orange tomatoe broth and basil aioli. It was fantastic! We also shared the roasted pear salad, it too was awesome! We both tried the special seafood fettuccine with a lemon sage tomatoe butter, Mmmmmm! We finished with a tiramisu and a fourless chocolate tart with coconut gelato. Good finishes to a fine meal! We have the good fortune of knowing a world class chef from Tuscany, while this food is not at his level, color us impressed nonetheless! I will eat here again next time I am in Ketchum. read more

This place was a bummer! No host stand, and we were ignored for about ten minutes til we flagged down a server. We eventually got a table (directly over a heating vent- so sweaty), where a very strange man served us. Either he was intoxicated or just didn't care- not sure- he only spoke to my husband and pretended I wasn't there. Forgot to get the wine order from us so our subpar, over-hyped steak was out way before the wine arrived. He got the wine order wrong but at this point didn't care- just needed some red with the steak. Diablo was great- two stars for that at least. If you must eat there, order Diablo ... to go. read more

Kudos to Rominna's for doing what it seems like no one else does, which is to say, serving a fresh, flavorful and not overdressed arugula salad with no wilted or rotting leaves in it. I'm sorry but we had a really bad experience here. The food was really marginal at best. We started out with the calamari which was just ok, greasy and small in portion. I followed with asparagus soup which was so sweet it was almost not edible. I ate maybe a third and sent the plate back. The main course I ordered was Diablo shrimp pasta which was bizarre. Tons of capers which dominated the taste and lots of grease with little taste. The pasta reminded me of Ramen noodles. My son had the penne pasta with sausage which left a really strange after taste in you mouth. He ended up sending his back as well. To make things worse the plates were on the spendy side as well. I would not recommend this establishment based on my experience here. read more

Now an owner, Pierre has taken his cuisine to a higher standard at Rominna's. From the caprese capped with caviar to the delicious ravioli, and an excellently prepared NY steak, every course was on target. Ambience is upscale casual, and wait staff, while mostly new, were friendly and accommodating. Ketchum needs a restaurant like this, so we urge the locals & tourists to support it. Rominna's -- the newest jewel in Ketchum's dining tiara! We've dined at Rominna's a half dozen times now and have been amazed on every visit with chef/owner Pierre Herrera's talents. I love to start with the beautifully plated Roasted Pear Salad, which is a half pear stuffed with a pecan-gorgonzola mixture placed over mixed greens and finished with a balsamic drizzle. All the pastas are homemade and one of my favorites is the Mexican Wild Shrimp Diablo in linguini that has just the right amount of garlic and heat. On our last visit I had the special Dover Sole in a very light sauce with capers and lemon over linguini -- amazing. Reservations are recommended in this intimate store front space, and there's al fresco dining. Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you about the breadsticks! The best -- the very best. read more

Been there three times, actually pretty good food, great wine list but the worst service in Idaho, if not the world. Had reservations, not informed of the two seating protocol. Arrived on time, then took 10 minutes at least to be acknowledged. We were a party of 5, one meal served 5-7 minutes after the others. At the end of the evening we were informed that we had 5 minutes to get out because of the next seating. When we let them know that we did not know of the seating protocol we were told that we now knew. Too rude to go back!! read more

I had a lamb shank that was pretty good. the atmosphere was cozy, although I think our table may have been a bit small for four people. We discovered Rominna's last night and can't figure out how we've missed it for the last 2 years! We don't have any good Italian food where we live (Oklahoma City), so we're always on the lookout for Italian restaurants when we're traveling. We started out with the heirloom tomato special and it was nice, but nothing that special. We ordered mushroom fettuccine and split it 3 ways as an appetizer and it was fantastic. Bowl-licking good, and 4-5 different types of shrooms. My husband had the Veal Chop special, my daughter had the halibut special, and I had the airline chicken breast, which was perfectly cooked. All were wonderful, as well as the bottle of Spottswoode Cabernet. We will be back! read more

A delightful little restaurant with a great outdoor patio. Food is consistently good and the arugula and citrus salad with fennel is hands down one of my very favorite salads. They also have a very nice, "good dogs" are allowed on the patio policy. We come here about once a week and have yet to find a single thing that wasn't excellent about service or food. read more
