Went to the new Roman Cafe breakfast and was sadly disappointed. We were seared relatively quickly and ordered with minutes of sitting down. At first we didn't notice the delay since we were busy talking and the place was busy, however when tables that came in after us got their orders and some left we were finally informed they gave our food to another table. Ok I get the mistakes occur but when we finally got our food it wasn't that great. I had an Italian omelette and the onions were burnt and the green peppers under cooked. I normally don't write reviews like this, but I was honestly very disappointed with my experience here, especially because I had been here before when the previous owner had the restaurant and really enjoyed it. From the moment I walked in, the restaurant had a very musty smell, but that didn't bother me too much. Our server was also not very personable, which I completely understand because not everyone is, so that alone wasn't a big deal. We ordered the homemade pizza roll-ups, and they were honestly very good. However, one of them was completely raw in the middle. We let our server know, and her response was just that she would tell the kitchen. There was no offer to make it right. I ordered the Alfredo, which is something I've had at many different restaurants and have never had an issue with before. I also had actually tried the Alfredo here when the previous owners had the restaurant and I really liked it, so I was excited to have it again. Unfortunately, this time it just wasn't good; the sauce was completely different and the pasta was hard. I took a couple of bites and genuinely couldn't eat the rest. I let our server know, and again, there really wasn't much of a response or concern. What made the experience more disappointing was that I was there celebrating my birthday. I had planned on getting dessert afterward, but after everything that happened, I honestly just wasn't in the mood anymore. Whenever I go back to NY, I have to eat a Beef on Weck which is roasted sliced beef on a soft kummelweck roll. I dipped the sandwich in beef gravy to wet the beef and keep it chewable. My 85-year old mother went to lunch there Saturday, Dec. 27 and ordered the tripe like she normally does. She said it was "mushy and tasted old" and didn't finish eating the rest of it. Thank goodness because who knows what was wrong with it as she threw up all night long and felt horrible. Fortunately, she feels a bit better today, but honestly, what is wrong with you to prepare obviously bad or spoiled tripe? Was in Buffalo fro a concert and this place was recommended by a friend I love the fact that the pasta dishes come in two sizes hearty and lite! I always have way too much to take home or in this case to waste as we were heading to the concert directly afterwards. I ordered lasagna with meat sauce. It had a great deal of both cheese and sauce. The sauce was a tad sweet for me, but overall it was delicious. My fiancé had the fettuccine Alfredo and added Cajun chicken. He said there was a tad too much garlic but I noticed he ate every bite. He did say he would have liked more sauce. Our friend ordered the spaghetti Parmesan and he also would have been happier with more sauce. To me, flavor is important and a little more sauce is easy to fix! Ordered takeout to try the fish there with the family. We ordered the Blackened Haddock and the Chicken Finger Wrap. The Blackened Haddock came with coleslaw, bread and Cajun rice. The fish was cooked perfectly and delicious. The rice does have a spicy kick to it that goes perfectly with the fish the way it was cooked. The coleslaw was different from normal - there was no mayo in it. It was made with oil (I think). I was told they would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes blackened or Cajun fish. The wrap had a flavored wrap instead of a normal plain tortilla. It was larger than expected and very tasty. It came with fries and pickle. The fries were on the cooler side, but we live ~20 mins away and believe this is the issue. I am looking forward to going there again soon. read more

I thought I would be eating something a bit weird after a friend recommended I try these. Raspberry and chipotle wings? Nope. They were very memorable. I can't wait to have these again, but it's a bit far away from my house. Prices are also decent and one order comes with 12 wings. Come with a friend and order 24 for wings for around $17. The Roman Cafe is a really cool Italian American red sauce joint. The interior was surprisingly beautiful. The ambiance is really nice and the prices are really low, which is a great combination. Most entrees are under $15. I also had the "hearty" portion of the chicken parm which was really great comfort food. A nice piece of chicken smothered in cheese, spaghetti with a heaping of red meat sauce on top. Service was super friendly and nice. Roman Cafe is great. We have dined in-house numerous times and decided to do takeout. Terrible idea. This fish fry was mushy. I understand delivery is different but the food consistently should at least be the same regardless of in-house or at home. So disappointing especially with it being lent. Came here on a Friday night. No wait which was nice. Seated prompted. Was served complimentary bread and butter. Bread was cold and tasteless. Ordered calamari. Definitely the frozen and flash fried calamari - not fresh. Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken: sauce was good but chicken was burnt and completely dried out. Fish fry was horrendous. Ordered on fries and the other Cajun. Cajun one was super overcooked and fried was just basic with no taste. The coleslaw was different - seems to be their own style that has a brownish /yellow color and some odd seasoning added to it. Couldn't eat it. Bad taste. As I looked around the restaurant, almost everyone's fish fry has an uneaten pile of the coleslaw on it. Baked potato was fine - fries were undercooked. Would not try here again. Today, went with my sisters and niece for lunch. The tuna half sub and turkey half sub were both good. Mashed potatoes and gravy tasted like instant potatoes, but were tasty. My other sister ordered the turkey club, which she said was a little skimpy on the bacon and was dry, with not enough mayonnaise, or other dressing on it. This cafe is never in one place. It's always Roman the streets. OK, I can't back that up. What to get: Chicken Parm, Fried Dough. What else is good: Lasagne, Beans And Greens Soup. This place is still so underrated among people outside North Tonawanda. Like "Village Eatery" in Lockport, it deserves so much more attention! I'm hoping this review will help with that a little bit... it's very delicious, good, cheap Italian-American food. When you're lost on the dim-lit back streets of North Tonawanda, looking endlessly for a sign of salvation such as Sportsplex, or perhaps Dunkin' Donuts... out of the darkness, you will see a beacon of shimmering neon lights. The lighting is pretty spectacular in an otherwise dark and understated area. This beacon is known affectionately as the Roman Cafe. Western NY has the best Italian American food on earth. I have 7 amazing restaurants to prove it. Just like the Pizza, and the Wings, and the Souvlaki... the sign when you come into the region should say: Italian American - it's better here. Top tier: Mulberry Cafe (one in a million, my fave, best lasagne and meatballs on earth). Lockport Village (best chicken parm). Santasieros (cheap and rich and delicious). Best of the rest: DiTondo's (only open Friday eve), Roman Cafe (yum yum in NT), Michael's (best Beans N Greens and rolled mozzarella chef salad imaginable), Lebro's (awesome sauce and Chicken Parm). You will not go wrong at any of those marvellous jewels. Now back to Roman Cafe. It's extremely cheap and delightful and unpretentious, and most importantly it's absolutely ridiculously dreamily delicious! Since I live quite far away from it, I don't get to come as often as I want to but that doesn't make me love it any less, and I came here for a wonderful Christmas dinner recently. The best dish on the menu in my opinion is their Chicken Parm. It's juicy and heavenly and just right. The chicken is generous instead of wafer thin and all breading. The sauce is divine and not sweet at all (no true Italian food should be riddled with sugar). The pasta is perfect. It's just wonderful, it's my favourite Chicken Parm on earth. Their Fried Dough is cheap and generous and marvellous, and it's the place where I first fell in love with Fried Dough. I much prefer it with the cane sugar sprinkled on it rather than the cinnamon, but if you're a fan of cinnamon then you'll love that version of it too. Their salads are okay, not amazing like Michael's. Their Beans and Greens soup is excellent, but not the best in the world like Michael's. I can't remember if they have French Onion Soup, I seem to remember them having it and it being really, really good. I consider Buffalo to have the best Italian American food in the world, and if someone was in town and wanted a sit-down Italian meal, I would take them either here or Michael's. Preferably to both. If they wanted a 3rd one, I'd take them out to Newfane to Cafora's. In a city like Buffalo, to be leading the "best Italian" list is a huge feat and not easy to do given the competition. As a school psychology intern in the North Tonawanda school district this year, I frequent Roman Cafe with the other psychologists in the district. You can find us here almost every Friday for lunch; there's a reason we keep coming back each week. First, the service. We have the same waitress (Lyn) probably 3 out of 4 times a month and she's great! We're able to joke and laugh and Lyn is always exact and precise with our orders. Second, the menu. Seriously, there is something for everyone at Roman Cafe because it's such an extensive menu!! Even so, I go with my usuals. When they have the Lobster Ravioli, I order that in a heartbeat. It is SO good! Lately I've been ordering the regular ravioli if they don't have the lobster special. Still very good and a decent price whether you get the heavy or light portion. My third go-to option is the Turkey Club + Soup. I usually splurge and spend an additional .70 cents and upgrade the soup to the French Onion. Today I ventured out and got the Tuna Melt. Everything I've tried at Roman Cafe is well done. I really have no complaints about Roman Cafe but have only experienced lunch here. I can't wait to make my way back in the evening for dinner! I highly recommend this restaurant to local residents of North Tonawanda and beyond! read more

We LOVE Roman cafe! The food is always delicious and the service is great! When we arrived at 430(ish) we were seated immediately - even gave us a choice of booth or table, which is nice. The place was already jumping and we knew it would get even busier! My daughter, father, and I went this past Saturday night to RC and it was perfect! All the old comfort food standbys and some great specials were available. My daughter and I decided to go old school and get the medium pizza and 20 wings combo for $29, A little on the pricey side but we have had their pizza in the past and it is awesome! My father opted for the large size spaghetti and meatballs. We were not disappointed. The food was amazing. The portion sizes were incredible and everything tasted great, too. It did take a little long to get our food but it was simply because it was busy there, so we didn't mind waiting. We decided to wrap up our dinner with dessert but before we could order, the waitress brought our bill. No worries, though, our server was happy to adjust our order accordingly. We ordered coffee, chocolate cake and an ice cream sundae. The coffee was fresh brewed for us (and tasty) and the two desserts were huge so we shared them between the three of us. Ordered a large pizza with mushroom and sausage. It was very good. Mushrooms were fresh and not canned which is a huge plus for me. We got the sesame crust which was amazing. They sesame the bottom of the pizza as well and not just the top crust. Also ordered a side fries(they serve steak fries). Overall great experience. My Orders: Honey Garlic Wings *omg yes, Raspberry Chipotle Wings *heavely, Medium Wings *not bad, French Onion Soup *ok, but passable. Pros + Service: It was good. Friendly. Quick. Responsive. What you'd want and expect in a mom and pop's shop. + Food: Absolutely delicious. You can taste the freshness in it. The honey wings were dripping in real honey. The raspberry chipotle wings were definitely something else, tangy, spicy, unique in itself. Cons - Ambiance: I think this isn't so much a con as it is more of a neutral comment. The ambiance is reflective of the common patrons of the restaurants. It attracts an older crowd and has a 'diner' feel to it. There were plenty of people grabbing to-go and while I arrived on an early evening (~ 5pm), it was packed to the brim with people just before I left. I'm disappointed to have to write this review. We ordered take out and I fully understand that the quality of food is not 100% the same with takeout and dine-in, but with this new lifestyle I feel restaurants should really be upping their takeout game. I ordered a french dip panini and my boyfriend ordered pasta with shrimp in lobster alfredo sauce. The chips were forgotten with my french dip and the lid for the container used for the au jus melted on the way home so I was met with a soggy french dip and a pickle. The meat was also pretty tough and not great. I ended up just throwing it out. The pasta container lid also melted so when we opened the bag, a nice amount of the pasta and sauce were in the bottom of the bag and I had to scoop it back into the bowl... The menu also states that the shrimp are in a lobster alfredo sauce and I guess we were expecting lobster chunks or something too but it was only shrimp. This should be clarified on the menu if that's the case. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt because it was takeout but you have to adapt to that being a main mode of food service now. And there's NOTHING worse than having food smell so amazing the whole car ride home and being met with a lackluster meal. Very disappointing. read more
