Came here right when they opened for dinner. The restaurant was very cute and intimate. I ordered the spicy seafood soup and it was delicious! Only part I didn't like about my experience was the parking. You have to pay $5 valet even though there's a parking lot right on the same street. My boyfriend and I went in for a casual date night yesterday and we are in love with this place. The server massimo was so attentive and so kind. We got the meatballs and the sauce was so good and the we both got the bolognese and it was amazing. Everything tasted so fresh. I am a huge bolognese fan and I would have to put it on my top 3. The veal was very tender and flavorful. Cesar Salad was wonderful with a few cherry tomatoes. Fried mozzarella was like a sandwich with marinara sauce -- delicious. I've visited many Italian restaurants in houston and this is one of my favorites! I recently visited for an anniversary date and loved it. Had lunch on Friday and it was a total disappointment. My husband has their special where you ordered 2 items (appetizer & entree) for $20 and portion of the proceed will go to charity which I thought is super kind of them. However the food was not pleasant at all. He ordered the meat balls and spaghetti conbonara as recommended by the owner himself. The meat balls was barely warm and there's a piece that he can't even cut through as I believe it was a piece of bone or something. We told the owner and he didn't apologize or offer us something else. He just took the plate away and bring back the same thing but warmer. We didn't even touch it. The spaghetti conbonara was tasted like krafts mac&cheese. My husband took one bite and just push the plate aside. I ordered the squid ink pasta. It tasted good but some of the pasta pieces wasn't even cooked. One thing I almost left out, the bread that they offered is sliced stale bread. I have never had a restaurant that reviews bad bread before. This place definitely is the 1st in my list. We left this place feeling still hungry and wasted our money. Will not be coming back. This restaurant has been on my must-try list simply because they have cacio e pepe in a cheese wheel! Yes, Instagram-worthy (hello Chrissy Teigen!) but also, I had a similar pasta back in NYC that was absolutely incredible. Made an early dinner reservation on Open Table and my family and I were the first to arrive, even before the hostess. We found street parking but saw the valet setting up their stand - I don't prefer to valet my car if I can avoid it. We were seated immediately with friendly service. I do not believe there is a happy hour. We ordered the polpette (meatballs), suppli (fried rice balls similar to arancini), and house burrata for appetizers. The water staged the appetizers well. The meatballs were excellent and had good texture, I think I could taste lamb. The suppli were a little over-fried and the house burrata was small and not served with a carb to eat it with. I really enjoyed the blood orange and prosciutto with the burrata though - nice touches and I believe the burrata is pulled in house! We requested bread be brought out after we saw another table with a basket. Bread was sadly cold but had some variety - I believe there was a sourdough and an olive bread. We split a cacio e pepe and a squid ink fettucine in seafood red sauce for the entree. Cacio e pepe showmanship was a little bit of disappointment - the pasta is not mixed in a parmesan cheese wheel, rather a pecorino, which is arguably less impressive but certainly more economical. Cacio e pepe was mushy, cold, and shocking, had TOO MUCH CHEESE. Seriously, in mere minutes the cheese coagulated on the plate (plates weren't heated) and became unpalatable to eat. Further, the cheese made the pasta far too salty to the point it was nearly inedible. The seafood squid ink fettuccine was a far superior dish - the pasta was al dente and had plenty of calamari, mussels, and shrimp. The seafood was cooked well and not rubbery. We mopped up the red sauce with bites of bread - a bread refill is hard to come by. Our waiter did not offer a new basket and we had to request it, just as we had when our appetizers were brought out. Overall, the meal was fine, portions are small, I certainly thought the appetizers outshone the entrees. read more

I feel that our dinning experience at Roma deserves a stern critique. First off, my husband and I love Italian food, so we were really looking forward to giving Roma a try. We made reservations, but we really didn't need to since the restaurant was only semi busy around 6:30 pm on a Saturday night. When we arrived the place smelled like fish, which we thought was odd for an Italian restaurant. It was a cool night, and we were offered a table either on the patio, or inside. We went for a table inside, and were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant which, btw, is very small. There was constant traffic whizzing by us, and we were close to the patio door which was constantly being open and closed to enter and exit the patio area, so I kept my jacket on the entire time we were there. We both ordered a glass of wine, and it couldn't have been a skimpier pour. We finished our wine in close to 5 sips. For $10 a glass we expected more than just a taste. My husband ordered the lasagna and I had the salmon on braised cabbage... "Meh"... along with an underwhelmed shoulder shrug, is all I can come up with to describe the flavor and small portion sizes of both these dishes. My salmon sat on top of the braised cabbage which was a ball of red watery mush. My husband's lasagna was also lacking in texture and flavor, and had no sauce on it. He asked for sauce, and he was brought a small bowl of red sauce that tasted like Campbell's tomato soup that had been thicken slightly. Neither of us finished our meals. The service was decent, but overall what a disappointment! Needless to say, we will be moving on to more flavorful Italian pastures elsewhere. Update: I take your response as not knowing how to respond to my review. Not even an invitation to give Roma another try. So, perhaps you agree that your food needs some help. So glad Roma is open for in restaurant dining. Perfect location for safe service. Ate outside with proper distance from other tables and ceiling fans supplementing a pleasant breeze. But tables inside looked fine also. Now to the food - Wow. I really missed the grilled octopus. Got it again. It's wonderful. Wifey had scallops/shrimp. Her favorite. Also fantastic. The location, the atmosphere, the prices, the food prepared by the chef from Verona and the Saturday service by Anthony were all impeccable. A friend and I went for a Houston Foodie Friends dinner on a Wednesday and everything from start to finish was outstanding. I arrived over an hour early because I had messed up my scheduling. However, I sat there at the bar and Shannon and Mossimo (sp?) and the rest of the chefs made me feel right at home. Every dish had layers of flavor that reflected the quality of the ingredients. My boyfriend ate the leftovers without even heating them up because it smelled so wonderful. But even better is how every single person at this restaurant made you feel special from the moment you enter the building. This is where you go to celebrate because they make it feel extraordinary. Roma is really 3 - 4. It's a tough call right now. For the moment, I went with 3 stars as we have gone twice and the service is mediocre and most plates are good. The place itself is darling but beware ... they charge for valet ($5). Food - one thing I cannot complain about is- no matter what we have ordered, it comes out hot. Probably the most important factor to a good meal in my opinion. So far we have tried the meatballs, the Caesar salad, a few entrees and tiramisu. I would get the meatballs again and the salmon. By far, my least favorite has been their seafood soup which has more bread than seafood. For $20something dollars, don't get it unless you want to eat tomato broth with a couple of pieces of seafood. It doesn't even have any fish in it. The Caesar salad is very fresh but if you don't like anchovies, don't order the dressing. I love anchovies but the dressing was a little strong for me! The next time we go, we plan to try the lamb shank. I also want to order a coffee as it smells so good but the coffee should not be the reason you should go to an Italian restaurant. I would suggest trying this place but my concern is that this place is probably the cute Italian place that has a decent size menu with only a few good things to order. Loved this place. Had a date night here. Inside is small but beautiful. She had the filled ravioli and I had the veal scalloppine. I loved the veal, it was tender and had a great sauce and the artichoke was fantastic. But the star was the ravioli. I would have eaten three servings of that. The service was outstanding. The server assisted in wine pairing and didn't let us want for anything. The manager even brought out an "adult lemonade" for us to drink. It was great. My husband opted for a creamy pasta dish and I ordered the veal scaloppine with artichokes and grilled asparagus. Wait time for the food to arrive was longer than expected and they forgot to remove the toothpicks in the three veal pieces. Despite new restaurant start-up issues, the food was delicious. Hit or miss based upon the menu item you choose. The spinach Ravioli and Affogato dessert are excellent. Pass on the Cacio e pepe and the mixed sampler tray as they are pretty bland. The service is pleasant, but sometime slow depending upon your server and the number of tables they have. Wonderful atmosphere and ambiance. The ice tea is a bit weird, they bring a small pot of tea to the table and you pour it into a glass of ice. Therefore, you end up with Luke warm tea. Definitely different. I was not a fan. I think it's a way to help the servers from having to give free ice tea refills throughout service to save them some cycles. read more

It was pretty bland and I would recommend something else on the menu. The Affogato was an amazing dessert. What a treat this place was. We attended for HRW and experienced nothing but excellent service, atmosphere, and food through the duration of our evening. Nestled in rice village amongst a hodgepodge of shops, bars, and restaurants, Roma was unassuming from outside. Once we stepped inside, dimly lit and nearly full, the dining room was abuzz with an eclectic mix of folks happily sipping and savoring their way through the hearty collective of options offered for dinner service. We each ordered the meatballs as our first course, the presentation was delightful- but the taste was sublime. Following the delicious appetizer, we each were served a smoked gnocchi pasta with shrimp. The gnocchi melted from the second it hit our tongues, with the fresh shrimp taking a step back to allow the smokey taste profile of the pasta to be the star. My third dish was the salmon, which was in my opinion the stand out dish of the night. Beautifully flaky and delicately seasoned, I couldn't help but smile after every bite. This is a unique restaurant. Inside an old house, this place offered a great atmosphere, both inside and out. We decided to sit outside because it was a nice evening, which was a great choice. As the evening went on, the ambiance improved even more. There was an extensive wine list, and the red wine we ordered was great. Italian happens to be my favorite type of food. I came across Roma in hopes that I could find a dish that I can eat by that I mean, I am allergic to dairy so it's tough for me to find a dish at a restaurant that doesn't contain any sort of dairy (butter & any milk products {NOT EGGS} ). people seem to think that eggs are a dairy product because about 75 percent of the time when I ask a waiter for no dairy they ask "so no eggs?" eggs come from chickens not cows... ANYWAYS I have been to Roma three times now. Out of those 3 times I have always gotten sick, after ordering the same dish. You ask me, "why keep going there" Out of all of those three times I have been for dinner only, spread out in months if that makes sense. I wasn't aware that the food from Roma was making me ill since I was told it had to dairy in it, I thought perhaps it was something else I had eaten. I was never sure why because I had the waiter confirm to me that my order did not have any source of dairy in it. So on Wednesday of last week I decided to call Roma & place a to-go pick up order. I was told over the phone that my meal had MILK in it, that the cream sauce in my pasta had in fact milk. In that instant it all made sense, I had been lied to just to eat at their restaurant or I am not sure why I was in fact told at the beginning their was never any dairy in my meal. I'm disappointed by the lies & the overall treatment for customer service. I am thankful nothing worse happened to me, because I have gotten very ill before in the past due to a dairy allergy. read more
