Pear almond tart
Sandy J.

Great food! This was our favorite meal in Dublin. The restaurant is a little more classy than casual. We had the homemade pasta and the fish and chips. Both were great. We had a pear almond tart for dessert. Everything great would definitely return if ever in Dublin again.

We were there on a Thursday evening in August for a business dinner. The 8 of us enjoyed great wine and appetizers (starters) of duck wontons and bruschetta. Both were wonderful. The sauce that they serve with the duck wontons is amazing. We all had different main courses but most outstanding was the steak, similar to ribeye and the fish. I got halibut and another coworker had cod. Everything was delicious. We couldn't pass up desert so we shared all of them and my favorite by far was the cheesecake. I highly recommend this restaurant for the food, service, ambiance, location and variety.

Duck wonton

Decent dinner and probably one of the better choices in the immediate area but as far as a taste to value to service and menu options I'll make the effort to venture out a little further next time. The duck wonton presentation was nice but duck was very salty and the wonton was overcooked. Grilled beef and chips asked for medium rare and it came medium well, with very dry chips. Service was very sporadic and if you needed something you had to waive a server down as they never stopped to check on you unless you waved at them. Dessert was very good and the wine by the glass selection while limited was good. The terrace had a nice ambiance on a beautiful day. All in all an ok meal that didn't meet my expectations based on the price and reviews.

We came with a large party, they were able to accommodate us and broke us up into separate tables, no problem. It's a warm, cozy surrounding and dining experience. We all came hungry after a day of touring the city, it was an early dinner. Most of had the must have fish and chips, with a bit of roughage around the tables. Food was good, service was really good. Everyone enjoyed their meals and felt well sated. Prices seemed reasonable.

Monkfish with cherry tomatoes - I really liked it

If you want highly attentive and efficient service, fine food very well prepared and presented, reasonably priced in a nice location then Roly has it ... but if you want to relax four a few hours over a leisurely meal on a Saturday evening then Roly's is not ideal. Personally I recommend spicy fish cake starter, monkfish and then the cheese at a table upstairs by the window. We booked a table for the second sitting last night (Saturday). I appreciate the efficiency of their service when I am on a tight schedule, but last night I was rushed through a meal and almost intimidated out of the restaurant when all I wanted to do was relax, savour a slow meal and enjoy the company of good friends. After speeding most efficiently through the first two courses, I told my waitress that we would like to relax for a bit before ordering dessert/cheese. Nevertheless we were approached by 4 or 5 staff asking us for our desert order. As we wrapped up, the staff buzzed around us noisily taking bits and pieces from our table. I really felt rushed and that takes from the experience. Ideal for business lunch or dinner.... of for very nice breads. I really liked the walnut bread

I've been to to both the main restaurant and the new café thats added on to the side. Theres really nowhere else like Rolys. Upstairs in the main restaurant is great, really classy and prefect for a special occasion, although Its been a few years I think a return trip is on the cards. Nice to see the new Café as well, which aims for a slightly different, less formal setting. They've recently extended their hours until half ten to get more people in. They have all their usual good stuff to take away, the chocolate biscuit cake is the business! The prices are steep enough but I imagine the food is up to scratch as I was only there for the sweet stuff that day. I'm with Annie on the breads too, great stuff. Their demolished every time they come into the house.

I think that Roly's has a reputation for being a little bit more expensive and upmarket than it actually is. I'm not saying that it's a greasy spoon or anything, but it is certainly affordable to us lesser mortals for a treat or whatever. Obviously, there's little hope of being able to afford the a la carte dinner menu: that's fairly out of my humble price range. But the set lunch works out at around 25 spots per person, so if you're willing to forego the wine, you can have a lovely meal for yourself with a bit of class about it. And the lunch is damn good: chicken stuffed with black pudding. My ninth most favourite food stuffed with my thirteenth? Yummers. So get your Dad to bring you there for your next birthday or something. Failing that, invest shrewdly in the commodities market and become wealthy enough to eat there whenever you want. I recommend gold. Always holds it's value well in a downturn.

A fantastic meal! Butternut Squash Ravioli, Crumbled Goats Cheese, Sun Dried Tomato And Hazelnut Pesto

Our hotel concierge picked Roly's -I was looking for a restaurant that was nice for my father's 70th birthday and would accommodate the dietary needs of all my guests (vegan and non) What a wonderful surprise! The Manager, Kahn was friendly, personable and attentive. The staff was wonderful and at the end of the evening, without asking, presented my father with a dessert and birthday song. Our food was delicious! Two of us had the Butternut Squash Ravioli (one was made to order vegan), my father had the Fresh Dublin Bay Prawn Cocktail and Braised Daube Of Irish Beef and when my Aunt could not find a Caesar salad on the menu- they made one for her. Thank you Kahn and Roly's for a wonderful evening :)

The ambience is trad Irish at bar with a very modern menu. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Roisin greeted us at the door and was super helpful making out choices for dinner. Though the patrons are packed in, the sound level was comfortable for conversation and tucked in the corner we had more room than most anyone else. The food was superb. There a Cajun influence to the chef's palate. The seafood chowder is a red chowder, a little spicy, and light. It's of course chock full of fish. The corn bread served with the soup is unique. I asked and the chef flavors the bread with Cajun spices. It's excellent. My wife chose the goats cheese salad. The pastry they held the salad and cheese was so delicate. Our entrees included the beef that melted in your mouth. It's served rare and it's totally tender. The sea bass was also excellent. It's served of the bone with mussels, brocholini in a curry based sauce. It was a very generous portion. The potatoes served with the dishes were great. My wife had a tawny port and I chose the cider-see pic. It was delicious and refreshing. We didn't enjoy dessert and so I can't comment. I highly recommend this place!

We'd had a long day of travel into Dublin, and neither of us really wanted to try to learn the city with only an hour of daylight left, so that left us with very limited options for dining. The restaurant wasn't busy on our first night in, so we grabbed a table next to the windows and ordered up our first pints of Guinness. For food, I went with the Beef and Guinness Casserole, and my husband ordered the Bacon, Sausage and Black Pudding Pizza. The casserole was more like a stew, served with beef, carrots and potatoes in a beef gravy, supplemented with mash and a couple pieces of bread. It was hearty and filling to be sure, but I didn't love the flavor of it. The mash was a bit dry, and the beef was too chewy to be enjoyable. It also had a slight off-flavor that I couldn't place. My husband absolutely loved the pizza, though. They drizzled some kind of sauce - he said it tasted like a BBQ sauce - over the pizza that he initially didn't like, but eventually grew on him. It was the first time he'd had blood sausage on a pizza, and it made a fan out of him. Our second visit, on our last night in town, we were shown to a table towards the back by the same waiter we'd had on our first visit. For this meal, I'd been randomly craving chicken wings, so I went with a full portion of their Piri Piri BBQ wings. My husband got the fish & chips. We also ordered the last pints of Guinness we'd have while in Dublin. *sad face* When I asked the waiter how many pieces came in a full order of the wings, he answered vaguely with "maybe 12 to 14". The bowl that he set down in front of me had *significantly* more than 14 wings in it. I tried to count, but lost track after 20. YES, 20! I mean, I was craving wings, but that was out of control. I did like the flavor of the piri piri BBQ sauce, for the first 6 or 8 wings, at least. After that, it got to be a little too sweet, a little too cloying to be enjoyable. The dish was served with celery slices, but not enough to offset the sweetness of the sauce. (The other option was a blood orange sauce, which I think would've been too overpowering, as well). I plowed through as many wings as I could stomach, and my husband tagged in after eating his fish and chips to help out, but we weren't able to finish them. They did give us our money's worth with that meal. By the way - the hubs said the fish and chips were delightful. The fish was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We had the same waiter both times we were there. He was nice enough, but kept forgetting to bring the water I'd requested (on both trips). He did stop to chat with us a bit about living in the United States, as we were paying our last bill. He opened up then, and had a lot of questions about our city and our state, which we happily answered. It's nice that the hotel has so many dining options (there's another restaurant that we didn't get to try, and a breakfast option, as well). It was handy to have something with good food and good beer on tap in the same building as the hotel.

What a beautiful event!…read more i've noticed events like this creep up in popularity around Dublin and isn't it a richer place for it. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's nights like this that instill in you a pride in being Irish, and a pride in our past, present and future. Honestly there were some parts that gave me goosebumps, the type I get every now and again when I'm wandering around the city and realise that after eight years away, I can honestly say there is no place in the world I would rather live right now. It's hard to decide what the highlight is. I won't go into massive detail as those before have, but allow me to point out the bones of what makes this into such a gorgeous way to spend a Saturday; - The setting. Old Georgian wooden stairs that are worn down in the middle by hundreds of years of stepping on them, the old crumbling cornicing, the candle lit old antique tables. - The food. Each course was a perfect size, and the perfect representation of modern x traditional Irish cuisine. Quality ingredients, beautifully presented - The talks in between courses by food historian Máirtín Mac Con Iomaire. Funny, informative, nostalgic, and funny again. If you didn't pick up on it already, I would highly recommend this as a night out. For any age, those who live here and are visiting, those who grew up here and those that are now making Ireland their home.

It's a wonderful way of enjoying some Irish history, poetry and music with delicious food. I knew we were in for an amazing night from Emily C's review but I was still totally blown away. Sure, the building itself is a little old and run down, but once we were seated and enjoying the food and wine, that didn't matter. Our host for the evening was awesome, lots of banter and amazing stories. It was really captivating and enjoyable hearing him speak, since and recite poems between courses. Everything was linked back to the food which was just as amazing - traditional Irish scran but served up a bit fancier than normal. Kind of like if your Mum went to a class to learn how to plate her Sunday meals in a nice way? I really enjoyed the food and only the main needed more sauce but they happily delivered us some. Yum. What a fabulous evening, this was a beautiful way to experience Dublin in all its glory.

Usually, the dining room comprises an underground hideaway that is quite sleek and intimate. However, due to the lockdown measures, we had to do outdoor seating directly on William Street while we were there. The experience was still beautiful, thanks to the surrounding scenery. The cocktails were grand between the P61 Signature Cocktail and the Hugo -- both prosecco-based cocktails. The former was delicious between the peach puree and prosecco, while the latter was a little more tart with the elderflower cordial. For dinner, we kicked things off with gluten-free bread with a trio of dips that were quite tasty. The Tortellini I ordered was exquisite and scrumptious with how it was prepared between the goat cheese, asparagus, red onion, wilted spinach, cream sauce, and bacon. I applauded this lovely dish with the last bite. I devoured the warm almond flour brownie for dessert, served with chocolate sauce and gelato, which my wife could also enjoy since the dish was gluten-free. With Café de Paris butter, shallot pureé, pepper sauce, rocket (arugula), and a side of french fries. The flavor of the meat itself was incredible and the three sauces complemented it perfectly. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare as ordered. French fries aren't normally something to get excited about but these were a gastronomic masterpiece; the insides soft and sweet, not starchy, the outsides browned and subtly crisp, and I don't know what they were fried in but these had so much flavor it must have been beef tallow or duck fat. I'd come here again just to have a platter of these amazing fries! The wife's Coq Au Vin Façon La Maison (chicken breast braised in red wine, smoked bacon, mushrooms, baby onions, roast carrot, pomme purée) was equally memorable. I've never considering ordering this, thinking it too simple or plain. Not this. The red wine sauce really elevated a simple braised chicken. And how do they make even a simple carrot taste so good? We each had a wine from the ample selection of by the glass offerings and shared a gingery dessert which we both enjoyed. The service was good and not rushed.
