Restaurant and wine bar with French, English, and Irish-inspired menu. Stress is on wine selection and locally sourced ingredients. Located conveniently near the Shelbourne Hotel, right at the back block of the National Gallery and Museums. Environment: dim but sufficient light, very comforting vibe, wine cellar visible, mahogany tables. High table seats could be a bit small, and window side seating a bit too narrow for myself, but no big issue. Service: warm and attentive. I was greeted by the receptionist the moment I walked into the door, and was quickly seated. Waitress had a friendly smile all day, good recommendation of drinks and dishes. Drink: Hopburgh Helles lager, brewed right in the area by Barrelhead Brewery. Pleasant hop aroma. A bit more hoppy than usual lager, but I loved the mouth-warming malted barley taste and enduring, bready finish. Tastes more like a pale ale to me, with less bitterness. Starter: market oysters. 4 Euros per piece, a bit expensive, but quality is top-notch. Oyster tasted buttery and briney, almost as smooth as egg yolk. All the sweet and savory ingredients did their job to create a vibrant, refreshing, fun feast of complex flavors. Entree: duck breast with duck leg croquette, pearl barley, red chicory, parsnip, and blackberry jus. Duck breast was cooked nicely, the skin slightly crispy, the meat juicy and packed a bite, the duck fat in between half-melted with that bouncy texture. One bite and the vigorous, wild taste of duck literally exploded in my mouth. Parsnip puree, fresh blueberries and blueberry jus added a refreshing, summer-time-forest complexity to the stomach-warming taste of the duck. Duck leg croquette was made steaming hot, seasoned slightly on the sweet side, contrasting the wild and savory taste of the duck breast. One miss are the brussel sprouts though: they appeared to be boiled and then just served straight, no searing or charring, tasted tough and bland. Side dish: broccoli with cheese and chilli. Could use more salt. Overall: 4-4.5 stars. Seats could be more comfortable, some minor improvements needed on the side dishes, and I really wish the oysters could be more affordable. But food quality is solid, and great service.

Fantastic spot for dinner in Dublin! The staff were attentive and friendly, even offering blankets when the wind got chilly. Everything about the food was amazing. I had the best brandino fish that I've ever had... crispy skin, perfect flakes of white fish. The brown bread was so yummy, had to hold myself back from eating too much and drinking my dinner! Husband for vegetarian option and was also lovely.

Upscale & fancy restaurant. Out of the heart of all the tourist bars and craziness. This is a lovely place to go to have a romantic dinner or a celebration. The serving sizes are small, but the food is delicious. Glad we had this recommendation from a local when we were visiting from the USA.

Some sort of amazing cheese w watermelon and light dressing. So good!

Popped in here on a Sunday night and it was hopping! The owner (?) maitre'd was friendly and busy...and said, yes, he could provide us a table in 30 minutes so off we went. Of course, when we came back, the table was ready, and we had a gorgeous French-speaking waiter! I wish I could remember his name...oh well. The food was so good. Buffalo mozzerella, smoked salmon, and my friend had a fish main course. The wine was unbelievably good...the list impressive. What a darling little find! You'll love this place, just steps away from our home away from home at the Shelbourne!

A quiet retreat in Hugo's of Dublin.

Hugo's has the feel of an old world restaurant, which belies the pub-like look of the exterior. The entrance is painted an eye-catching, distinctive robin egg blue, but once inside, you are surrounded by rich warm tones, wood furniture, and candlelight. Little slices of French and brown bread were brought out to start, with the creamiest and tastiest butter I've ever tried. (I seriously could have only eaten bread and butter and been a happy customer!) However, you need not worry, I did order their honey and garlic chicken entree. Now the chicken served with a tomato chorizo sauce was good, but the best bites of the meal were the yellow roasted carrots served with it. You know when you eat something and you just have to close your eyes because you're in sensory overload? Those carrots. And I only got three little carrots, but they were divine! The meal was also served with a deep fried polenta, but it lacked flavor and seemed too heavy to pair with the chorizo sauce. I wish I could have had more carrots in place of the polenta. It is to be noted that they have an extensive wine list, which we skipped in lieu of the fact we wanted to have a beer in a pub afterwards. I would definitely recommend this place for a quiet, relaxed dinner.

Amazing food and great early bird menu before 7pm I don't leave too many reviews or leave loads of detail spoiling you experience and food discovery but this place is worth a visit

I had the Fillet Of Irish Beef. I hardly ever order filet mignon but I'm glad I did. It may well be the best I've ever had. With Café de Paris butter, shallot pureé, pepper sauce, rocket (arugula), and a side of french fries. The flavor of the meat itself was incredible and the three sauces complemented it perfectly. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare as ordered. French fries aren't normally something to get excited about but these were a gastronomic masterpiece; the insides soft and sweet, not starchy, the outsides browned and subtly crisp, and I don't know what they were fried in but these had so much flavor it must have been beef tallow or duck fat. I'd come here again just to have a platter of these amazing fries! The wife's Coq Au Vin Façon La Maison (chicken breast braised in red wine, smoked bacon, mushrooms, baby onions, roast carrot, pomme purée) was equally memorable. I've never considering ordering this, thinking it too simple or plain. Not this. The red wine sauce really elevated a simple braised chicken. And how do they make even a simple carrot taste so good? We each had a wine from the ample selection of by the glass offerings and shared a gingery dessert which we both enjoyed. The service was good and not rushed. Just don't be intimidated by the waiter, who announced when he brought the bill that tip was not included; it seems this could have been handled more subtly.

La Maison was a delight! It was rainy but we wanted to sit outside, and there's a covered outdoor area with lots of smaller 2- and 4-top tables, so we were seated there. It is on a side street in downtown Dublin, so not as busy as main streets but still lots of food traffic, which added to the lively ambience. It was cold outside, but we stayed warm under here. We had a lovely meal. We started with a bread basket and shared shrimp appetizer, which were both great. For the main course, I ordered the duck breast, which was prepared perfectly. My husband had the steak which was also cooked nicely. To drink, we had a couple of glasses of wine each; La Maison has a solid wine menu with lots of delicious French wines and a few Italian wines as well. The service was pleasant and friendly, and the prices were just about right for the food and wine quality. Overall we had a lovely experience and would dine here again.

We walked around the corner, I saw Pichet and immediately remembered it from my trip research. I was visiting Ireland with my mother who is not an adventurous eater, so I looked at the menu online - found a lovely pasta dish that she would enjoy and she agreed to go. Turned out to be a great decision and a very memorable meal in every way. Service was wonderful... attentive, charming, and funny. Wine was perfection. And the meal was outstanding. My mom had the Knockanore cheese agnolotti with girolles, baby courgette, lovage and hazelnut pesto, and I had harissa spiced local lamb shoulder with tomato cumin puree, smoked yoghurt, roasted gnocchi, courgette and basil. We also shared two desserts, an Île Flottante with creme anglaise, Irish strawberry, strawberry prosecco sorbet, and an almond and black sesame tuile as well as the tropical themed and highly recommended coconut parfait with rum roasted pineapple, passion fruit gel, and coconut sorbet. Perfection. We chatted with a lovely local lady next to us for a bit and then two delightful & vivacious young women who arrived shortly after. One from Italy and one from Mexico. This is part of why I love travel. I recommend making reservations or arrive on the early side if you want to try your luck without one. We were able to get a seat in the bar/lounge area early as a walk in. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. 10000/10000 would go again.

There was no hostess nor any wait staff so we stood there like stooges. Finally ,two of the wait staff walked right by and just ignored us so we decided to take a seat. Now they want to come talk to us! I asked if this seat was ok and got the reply "I guess it will have to be as you already sat down". Should have got up then but the wife was tired so decided to stay. It was crazy warm in there with little air flow. I liked the atmosphere and ambience. Guess they wanted to make a point as we sat there for 15 mins without water or anybody coming by. Had to flag down what appeared to be a bus boy to get water. Finally had order taken by male bus boy who seemed he wanted to be anywhere else and said "I am waiting". We ordered two "specials" and the bœuf bourguignon. Two separate couples came in and were served before we received our food. So hard to eat as it was 80-85 degrees in there. The beef was good and would recommend. The two specials were chicken and very very dry. To wrap it up we had to hunt down the wait staff to get the ticket as they actively avoided eye contact. Fairly expensive for just ok food and horrible service. Customer service is not hard. A "Welcome" or "Glad you came in" goes a long way.
