Salmon starter
Annie L.

I had walked by this spot a few times when I was exploring around the area. It tempted me from the get go and then after reading James review, I just had to go! At the weekend my friend from San Francisco and I decided to check it out. San Francisco dwellers are notorious foodies and he loved it, he said he'd give it 4/5 but as I said in a previous review if you compare food fare to foreign spots then you will to no justice to Irish spots and make yourself miserable. One word, exquisite. I honestly can say that the smoked salmon starter that I got was probably the best I have ever tried. I had sole for my main and it was cooked to perfection. The side of potatoes were far too salted for my taste. He got the soup which he loved. He also got the ox cheek for main and it honestly was divine. Presentation of both meals was top notch. Macon Village white was pretty reasonable for restaurant prices. Coffee top-notch. He got the dessert which looked like two little volcanoes spewing lava to me but his mind went a far more sordid route. I of course tried some. Divine. Somehow they managed to condense rich chocolate sponge into such a compact fit that it just expands when placed in your mouth. The scoop of simple vanilla ice-cream on the side complimented the warmth of the sponge perfectly. Service was superb, extremely efficient and friendly staff who hail from the continent. It's a cosy little bistro and you can look in to the kitchen at the two chefs, one of which is the owner... Oh and they do cocktails... I would book ahead, I've already reserved the upstairs area for a meal to celebrate me in a few months ;)

After seeing this place open and then glance at it occasionally during my day-to-day life, I finally made the effort and we went to the Camden Kitchen last Friday night.... and I'm so glad we did. The starter I got was fine, black pudding croquettes. My partner got the smoked duck and thought it was fine too. But it was with the mains that things started to go up a notch. I went for the Ox Cheeks and it was divine, melt in your mouth. My partner went for the Skate Wing and he loved it. Me, I thought it was too fishy, but I'm weird like that (yes, I know, but some fish I just find too fishy!). Also, special mention to the green veg side with pesto dressing, it was pleasantly yummy. Finally the desserts, this is when I reached heaven. The creme brulee was, I expect, what all creme brulee should be like. I've ordered creme brulees in the past and have never been set alight by them. But this one rocked. But my partners chocolate fondant.. oh the fondant... lets just say I am definitely ordering that next time I go back. Flipping sensual... Wine was grand, Pinot Grigio. Decor very nice too, not too squished for a small venue. Two negatives though, it did get cold very quick whenever the entrance was used (and we were not even at the table beside the door). Oh also, the ladies toilets was cramped. But seeing as you are at a restaurant to eat and not to go to the toilet, I don't see why I should drop a star because of these....

Tucked away a few steps off noisy Camden Street is a new and unexpected little surprise know as Camden Kitchen. The decor struck me as a fusion of Restoration Hardware (Americans will know this store), a French country house, and a dash of hip. In a word: unpretentious. The soundtrack was cool and I think I may have even spotted some ambient Daft Punk. The music was just the perfect volume to set the vibe without creating a distraction. It's a refreshing, cozy 2 level bistro with an open kitchen in the back. You know a place is confident if the kitchen is in plain view. Oh right, they have food there too... I better get back to reviewing that. The menu appears to change daily since it was brought to us on a clipboard (well, really more like a butcher block with a clip at the top) and there's a big chalkboard of daily specials. It appears intimidating at first but I was quickly relieved when the professional staff greeted us by explaining some of the specials of the day: fresh pea soup and ham salad with brie. I ordered the Bayonne Ham Salad with Brie and Celeriac Rémoulade while my wife tried the Guinea Fowl Coq au Vin with mash and fresh green beans. Our son wasn't hungry for lunch so we caved and let him order the Mango Rice Pudding. We watched them prepare our lunch since we were seated next to the kitchen and since we had the privilege of being some of the first customers of the day for this two-weeks-young kid on the block, our food was ready in a flash. The dishes were like works of art. I can't remember the last time I had a lunch this fancy. Every last detail was attended to each plate and I hesitated to eat right away so that I can admire the beauty as my mouth watered. A nice little tin bucket of freshly baked assorted breads was placed in the middle of the table, a perk you don't often find in Irish restaurants. The bread ranged from basic crusty French to Italian style laced with tomato, olives and cheese. Wow. I could have gotten full on just the bread it was so fresh and tasty. Clearly it was baked just a few hours earlier. The kitchen staff must have put in a full day's work and it was barely 2 pm. The ham salad was outstanding. The lettuce was a mix of rocket, coriander and a bunch of other distinct flavours I had never tasted before. It was garnished with two slices of that yummy bread, toasted and drizzled with olive oil and garlic. Again, just give me the bread and I'm happy enough. Yum! The Bayonne ham was like really thick-sliced prosciutto or Parma, but a flavour I had never before tasted. Mmm. Then, there were generous chunks of brie and just the right amount of celeriac rémoualde (again a new and exciting taste for me) with a bit of pickle relish. The flavours were an excellent combination of salted ham, lightly sweet and sour dressing and bitter lettuce. My wife's coq au vin disappeared before I had much of a chance to try it as I was busy with my own project. I managed to sneak a few combo bites of gravy covered mash and crunchy sauteed green beans. The essence of the meat was mixed in and I got a good feel for the flavour. Again, yum. Our son's palette isn't quite refined enough to enjoy a fancy dessert like Mango Rice Pudding and the server noticed straight away. She offered to bring him some ice cream instead and had a nice brief chat with him to make him feel more comfortable. A surprisingly friendly attitude towards a child that is almost non-existent in this hectic city. I could go on and on, but my fingers are sore. Go to Camden Kitchen now and try it for yourself. In fact, grab your Dublin City Bikes card and your partner and wheel on over there. The Grantham Street station is right across the way. What are you waiting for?

Pork belly, celeriac and braised scallions

Five stars for this bijou little spot just off Camden street with its elegant, excellently executed food, non-intrusive and prompt service and two French chefs working their magic in the open kitchen. From start to finish my dinner was just perfection. I started proceedings off with a pork belly dish that was served with a celeriac dauphinoise and braised spring onions, it was the best starter I've had the pleasure of eating in a long while! A main of hake followed, with unctuously soft baby potatoes accompanied by strings of samphire to add some saltiness to the dish, it was so deliciously light I polished it off leaving plenty of room for a decadent dessert of spiced chocolate fondant with coconut sorbet. It tasted like an upper-class Bounty bar and was absolutely divine! Definitely on my list of favourite spots in the city, and easy on the pocket too if you go for the excellently-priced Early Bird (€25), couldn't recommend it enough.

Duck leg. A little too dry and lack of flavor. Probably looks better than its taste.
Lena H.

I came here because of the good reviews and gotta say it was just average foods quality and I was disappointed. My entree was a bit dry and tasteless (I ordered the duck leg) and the appetizer lacks flavor and too heavy. My waiter didn't seem to understand me so the waitress gotta come and help out. Good service overall; however, foods could have been better. By the way, they served me one piece of bread which I found pretty odd. Not that it really matters to me but I think it is very cheap to serve a single diner with one piece only. Do they serve two for a party of two? Lol

X'mas lunch menu #dublinshopslocal
Tim L.

Great recommendation by Emily to celebrate my beau's birthday here! We availed of the X'mas lunch set menu, very reasonably priced at €25 for 3 courses - every dish was executed very well with a strong emphasis on local organic ingredients. Lunch for 2 + 2 bubbly + carafe of red = €100 including tips! A tiny irk was when I mentioned my reservation upon arrival, the Maître d did not check the book and insisted on asking the no. of diners. What's the bleeding point of making a reservation then?!

This restaurant was so delicious!! My husband and I went on our first night in Dublin having no idea what to expect. I ordered the fish and he ordered the pork. We had a bottle of red wine and each ordered dessert and we were under €100! Incredible quality at an amazing price. All of it was so amazing! We couldn't stop talking about how good our meals were. Our server was so nice and helpful and the restaurant itself is so cute and quaint. Definitely check it out of you are like us and cannot decide where to go, you won't be disappointed!

Camden Kitchen is pretty small, the tables are close together but there's a really nice feel to it so I'm not complaining. The couple beside us were almost finishing up and when they saw what we'd ordered they told us it was excellent! :) For starters I chose chicken liver parfait with brioche toast and plum chutney. The parfait was melt in the mouth. Fiancé chose haddock croquettes with salmon sashimi, a beetroot purée and celeriac sauce. For main course I went with the Hake served with clams, risotto and braised scallions. He chose the special - Wicklow pheasant which came with cauliflower purée and Jerusalem artichoke. Both dishes were cooked perfectly! Consumed two bottles of red wine but now to my favourite part... Dessert. I had chocolate brownie which came with chocolate brownie ice-cream. OMG - food heaven! Fiancé got the orange Madeleines which came with Cointreau ice-cream. I got coffee with mine and he got a glass of Muscat. Just writing about the food is making me want to go back even though the cleaver on the wall above the kitchen is a tad unnerving!

Chicken Liver Parfait

Very cute intimate restaurant just off Camden Street, this place instantly impressed me with it's cosy dinning room. The staff were quick to great and before I knew it we had drinks on the way and our food order was in! Excited has they pics on their Yelp page had my mouth watering all day leading up to eating here. It did not disappoint, great food which was prepared fantastic and presented with such style and elegance. I love attention to detail with how a plate is served and they show a great love for the food. Lovely atmosphere in here, felt you could easy unwind after dinner for awhile without feeling the need to quickly vacate the table. Perfectly cooked food with great flavours in a very inviting restaurant. Would highly recommend this place to others,

Chicken leg

Food done right! Perfectly cooked, great flavor, fancy without any pretentious frills. Great staff, lovely atmosphere. A small menu but definitely something for everyone, well thought with a nice range of proteins and veggie options. I got the soup for the starter, mushroom, which had very little flavor, but that was the only thing I didn't like. For the main I got the chicken leg, and I've honestly never had chicken so moist or tender in my entire life. It literally fell off the bone! Perfectly seasoned, excellent sides, such a delicious meal. For dessert I got the creme brulee which was heavenly! Not a sugary, soupy mess like most restaurants, instead it had almost a flan texture to it, very smooth and not overly sweet at all. The top was so crispy and cracked as you broke into it.... perfection. And such a big portion! Couldn't finish it, which I still regret. Left absolutely stuffed. The mulled wine is also fab, so delicious and makes you realize just how terrible the cheap market ones are! Great ambience, intimate and cozy, would definitely go back for a date night. We were a big group for lunch and everyone loved their meal. It's a place I'd be excited to go back to, to try something different from the menu, knowing it will always be delicious.

I just don't give a 5? Otherwise this would be a contender for one. Came to Dublin for a weekend after a conference at the Ritz Powerscourt, I would rate this place well above the Gordon Ramsay at the Ritz. Chilled out, nice small place with great dishes that let the food do the talking. Worth a visit!

I wanted to have noodles in a Japanese, and it was full. I searched if there is a good restaurant around here, then... you can guess~ Camden Kitchen, I like here. Just yummy from starters to dessert.

The spot is located up a literal winding staircase that takes you into an inviting room that boasts a lovely view of the river below. We didn't go to the third floor, but I can imagine it was equally lovely. They've got an impressive wine list and a moderate beer list that's predominantly bottle. Interestingly they don't have spirits so the mixed drinks are wine cocktails - boss! I tried a white port and tonic drink - seriously next level! I don't often find wine cocktails and even more rarely are they really good! The menu is impressive and seasonal, save the potted crab and haddock, which are on all the time. It should be know for any who dine with our crew, that we share a lot, so everything we had was enjoyed by all 5 of us. The crab was unbelievable! Creamy, flavorful, magical. The beef cheek and fish plate were also perfect for sharing. We also had two scotch eggs - these could have a Klondike bar (look it up youngins!) like marketing campaign! We shared the Haddock and the Pigs on Green Port Tenderloin. Both were awesome, with the Haddock more memorable. We haven't had such delicious mashed fish since Iceland and the cheddar mash and onions were the perfect accoutrement! The chocolate fondant was delicious and the bread and butter bread pudding was life changing. The whiskey sauce is something I'd swim in if given the chance! It was lick the plate good. The service was spot on and we got out of there for about €50 a person, full and happy! The whole evening was excellent and this place definitely deserves the accolades. Our server walked us through this experience with ease and we all couldn't be happier with our time here, especially for a Sunday afternoon when it could have been a lot louder and chaotic.

Though the patrons are packed in, the sound level was comfortable for conversation and tucked in the corner we had more room than most anyone else. The food was superb. There a Cajun influence to the chef's palate. The seafood chowder is a red chowder, a little spicy, and light. It's of course chock full of fish. The corn bread served with the soup is unique. I asked and the chef flavors the bread with Cajun spices. It's excellent. My wife chose the goats cheese salad. The pastry they held the salad and cheese was so delicate. Our entrees included the beef that melted in your mouth. It's served rare and it's totally tender. The sea bass was also excellent. It's served of the bone with mussels, brocholini in a curry based sauce. It was a very generous portion. The potatoes served with the dishes were great. My wife had a tawny port and I chose the cider-see pic. It was delicious and refreshing. We didn't enjoy dessert and so I can't comment. I highly recommend this place!

Usually, the dining room comprises an underground hideaway that is quite sleek and intimate. However, due to the lockdown measures, we had to do outdoor seating directly on William Street while we were there. The experience was still beautiful, thanks to the surrounding scenery. The cocktails were grand between the P61 Signature Cocktail and the Hugo -- both prosecco-based cocktails. The former was delicious between the peach puree and prosecco, while the latter was a little more tart with the elderflower cordial. For dinner, we kicked things off with gluten-free bread with a trio of dips that were quite tasty. The Tortellini I ordered was exquisite and scrumptious with how it was prepared between the goat cheese, asparagus, red onion, wilted spinach, cream sauce, and bacon. I applauded this lovely dish with the last bite. I devoured the warm almond flour brownie for dessert, served with chocolate sauce and gelato, which my wife could also enjoy since the dish was gluten-free. What a beautiful event!…read more i've noticed events like this creep up in popularity around Dublin and isn't it a richer place for it. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's nights like this that instill in you a pride in being Irish, and a pride in our past, present and future. Honestly there were some parts that gave me goosebumps, the type I get every now and again when I'm wandering around the city and realise that after eight years away, I can honestly say there is no place in the world I would rather live right now. It's hard to decide what the highlight is. I won't go into massive detail as those before have, but allow me to point out the bones of what makes this into such a gorgeous way to spend a Saturday; - The setting. Old Georgian wooden stairs that are worn down in the middle by hundreds of years of stepping on them, the old crumbling cornicing, the candle lit old antique tables. - The food. Each course was a perfect size, and the perfect representation of modern x traditional Irish cuisine. Quality ingredients, beautifully presented - The talks in between courses by food historian Máirtín Mac Con Iomaire. Funny, informative, nostalgic, and funny again. If you didn't pick up on it already, I would highly recommend this as a night out.
