We had just arrived in Dublin and wanted to grab some lunch close to the hotel before check in time. After wandering around a bit and seeing McDonalds and Burger King and thinking NO. I don't eat there in the states and I'm not eating there here. We pulled up Yelp and found this place and I'm so glad we did. Our server was friendly and really sold me on the lunch special. The lunch special was a pulled pork sandwich on a brioche bun with a cup of soup of the day. It wasn't like the pulled pork we have in the states. It was more chunks of pork than strands. It was delicious and the soup was very good. The restaurant is upstairs and overlooking the street. They have wi-fi so I was able to get caught up on travel plans and such. read more

101 Talbot was wonderful! We were there the first night they reopened, and they weren't busy - I'm seriously wondering why local fans weren't counting down the minutes. My husband and I each had a starter, main, and shared a dessert. He had the soup (of the day? I can't remember), and I had the hummus. Soup was sweet potato and red pepper, he said it was great. Came with brown bread. The hummus was really yummy, came with pita and raw veggies to dip. For the mains, I had the chicken supreme and he had the fillet. Both of us ended up stuffed, but very happy. Neither of us had tried sticky toffee pudding before, so we ordered that for dessert. I'm glad we shared - it's VERY sweet. But we enjoyed it anyway. Highly recommend everyone flock this place now it's reopened. Quick note: the restaurant is upstairs, so the sign is pretty small and discreet, but they also had an A-frame out front when we were there. read more

Though it may be a bit tricky to find, it's worth the search. Note: you must climb a couple flights of stairs to enter the restaurant, so if you are handicapped give them a call ahead of time to find out if there's an alternate entrance. The staff were generally friendly and efficient, and we certainly weren't rushed out of the place. I think our whole dinner experience took about three hours... but they've got a decent selection of beers and the food was good. read more

This restaurant is popular with Dublin's artistic crowd as it is close the Abbey and the Gate theatres and it showcases different artists' work. Paintings decorate the large room and the whole style of the place is casual. Even the waiters are encouraged to express themselves freely, uniforms being banned and all. All the times I have been here, I have never been disappointed by the menu. There's always a fresh selection of fish and meat and the vegetarian appetizers are great. It can get pretty busy so don't chance it and make a reservation. read more

This place is a bit hidden and quaint. Lovely spot for dinner after a long day. The waitress' and waiters' were great. All helping each other make sure each guest had a good time. The prawns with chili sauce appetizer was incredible. The sea bass special was fresh. The lamb rump was tender and delicious-- not to mention the sauce! Our main waiter was incredibly nice. We wanted to take the sea bass home (there was an entire half of the fish left), and it as a bit loud and he misunderstood us; not to mention I do not think taking food home is as normal here in Ireland as it is at home in America. It was so good we had to! Needless to say, we cleared it up and he happily surprised us with another half to take home. He didn't have to do that but it was very professional of them! This is probably the finest dining you can get around this part of town (not hard I guess but people gots to eat around here too you know!!) Their lunch menu is reasonably enough priced I guess, about as high as I'd pay for lunch to be honest. I went for the sandwich and soup of the day at a tenner which is not bad business, the menu did rise to the mid and high teens if you are so inclined. But of course, as is often true you pay for what you get and what I got was delicious. Minestrone soup and pork meatball sandwich with goats cheese, rocket and a lovely onion marinade, it really was spot on and would definitely get me coming back. Getting everything right is typically unexpected when eating out, but this is not your typical restaurant. The owners and staff execute that nearly impossible task of cooking and serving delicious food perfectly. My wife and daughter had the scallops and pork belly with cauliflower sauce and baked potatoes that had crispy seasoned skins, and I had the roasted duck with raspberry sauce, asparagus and cheese crisp baked potatoes. The pictures need no comment. It was as good as it looks. We had the house Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. Incredible value and price for the wine. Balanced tannins, fragrant bouquet with concentrated berries and a smooth finish. For dessert, we shared the toffee chocolate ice cream cake, also unbelievably yummy. Best dinner of our trip to Ireland, Czech Republic and Belgium. Just wish the restaurant was in Southern California, as it would save us a lot of airfare. read more

Went here twice while in Dublin, once for lunch, once for dinner. At both seatings my food was delicious. The slow-cooked pork belly dinner was outstanding. If my review was only for the food, it would be 4- or 5-stars. Unfortunately, the service was terrible, mainly at the hands of the gentleman who seemed to be running the front of the house. He never actually spoke to me when I arrived, when he seated me, or when he took my money-- he basically just grunted like some sort of neanderthal. Never smiled, never thanked me for my business, never asked how my meal was. He brought me a cup of soup and practically threw it on the table from behind me. Curiously, this same gentleman/manager was handling a few other tables in a completely different manner: those tables that had young, attractive females. At dinner service for example, there was a table of 6 girls (no guys), and he was fawning over them excessively, asking their names, where they were from, and where they were staying. Meanwhile some of the rest of the tables were sitting and waiting and waiting and waiting. This situation is disappointing: here we have a restaurant that is sending out fantastic food from the kitchen, but the dining experience is getting spoiled by a dimwit manager who seems to be thinking with his penis instead of his brain. I think the owners of this establishment need to make a few staff changes. read more

Being stuck due to the volcano has allowed us to visit many restaurants while in Dublin. 101 Talbot Having very good ratings but few (4) reviews was a gamble. However we were not disappointed for the pork belly with barbeque and corn was very tasty. Pork belly wasn't too fatty but moist and braised well. Even more outstanding per my coworkers opinion was the Fillet Mignon with mashed potatoes and root vegetables. I didn't try it but it looked very tasty, see pictures. Per my other friend, the chicken was also very good although she was looking for it to be prepared a bit more healthy. In fact, the only reason I gave it 4 stars was the the concern that every dish had been sauced adding calories and had some sort of potato (more carbs) which displayed a lack of variety. But hell were in Ireland right? Overall we weren't disappointed with good flavors in each of the dishes. The service was good and the food prompt. The prices were very good for the quality and level of service and atmosphere. I would definitely recommend. read more

Extremely pleasant restaurant Started with pitta and hummus before dining on a delicious sweet potatoe, spinach and cauliflower curry. Love eating something so tasty that also seems pretty good for you too! It was truly an excellent curry They had some very unusual ice cream flavours such as cherry chocolate. Thought dessert was a little dear at 6 Euros for two scoops, but the overall cost of 40 Euros for dinner for two was so very well worth it! Very friendly place too read more

This is a great spot for a pre-theatre dinner. We went before a play at the Abbey and enjoyed a really nice meal. The restaurant itself is unassuming, and almost difficult to spot as such from the street. The menu offers a really nice variety, Including a reasonably-priced early bird. Not being especially hungry, we opted for a round of starters. I started with a sun dried tomato and cashew nut dip - definitely as good as it sounds. Not only was the flavor combination good, but the nuts made for a nice and solid texture. It was served with a generous portion of pita bread and crudités. The salmon and cod sausage had a sausage-like consistency and plenty of dill to round out the interesting flavor combination. It did not have the spices of a true 'sausage', but certainly cme together well. The feta cheesecake was really good - as anything with feta would be. We arrived to an empty restaurant just after they opened, but within 30-40 minutes the place was complete full of pre-theatre diners. So, definitely book your table even if you are going early. read more

After years of walking past this place on a nearly daily basis I finally got the opportunity to check it out. It's a lot bigger than you'd think from the outside. Although it's only one room from what I saw, it's large enough to hold a deafening amount of people. The wait staff are incredibly friendly, probably the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately the food didn't stand out to me during my visit a few months back. I got the venison and it was quite salty, though by no means inedible. As mentioned before also, there are a lot of people in this single room when the restaurant is busy, making it hard to hear your company without your conversation evolving into a shouting competition. The competition for higher-end restaurants in the area isn't much so if you're really itching for a steak in the area of Talbot st then this is probably your best bet. read more

This was a welcomed relief after 7 hours of JFK bar food. We hit up 101 talbot thanks to our "let's go" guides rec. Lucky for me both myself and the dude I'm traveling with are veg, therefore no one is constantly bummed their on a trip with a non-meat eater. We ordered the early bird specials, we got: pumpkin soup, red pepper spread with veggies for appetizers, main course was side salad and lentil & chickpea cakes in a coconut curry sauce. We also ordered a bottle of wine, coffee and a cheese platter. It totaled 73 euro. The food was AMAZING, loved everything we ordered. Staff was super friendly I think one kid was welsh, the girl may have been British and another kid was Irish. Bathrooms are across the landing, as the Irish kid came to my rescue after he noticed me poking into a cleaning closet and the back office. I think the veg option switches nightly. The rest of the menu was chockfull of healthy meaty options. But they also had sliders. My sis's fave. read more

This was one of our two nights in Ireland when we were free from the tour and that resulted in our best meal that we had in the country. My wife had hake for the third time on the trip and this was the best version by far. I had the fish pie; it's fortunate you don't see that much in the US because it could be really addictive. This is one of those restaurants that everyone mentions as a 'best kept secret' but try getting a table and a peak time and you'll soon realise it isn't a secret at all! There's no mystery Talbot 101 serves good food at a reasonable price, so once you discover it you'll find yourself returning there. It's a little out of the way on Talbot street which means you generally have to know about it to go there. This minimises the random passerby and tourist trade. Although restaurant savvy tourists do manage to find it. I've heard great things about their deserts but I'm always too full when we get to that stage of the meal, or else rushing off somewhere... this is a tragic circumstance that I have to remedy! read more

There isn't much to eat in this part of town, but 101 Talbot really stands out with great food and even better prices. When I last went, it was €32 for a 3 course prix fixe menu. The starter was a crudites platter with fresh adzuki bean dip (think red bean, but unsweetened) -- totally wonderful. The main course was halibut served over mashed potatoes, perfectly prepared. The dessert course was white-wine infused peaches, another winner. I don't get to swing by Dublin often, but I make a point to stop by 101 Talbot each and every time. Highly recommended. read more

My hubby and I ate at this place tonight. We had a Char-Grilled Thai Style Prawn Kebab, Baby Spinach Salad - 8.50 as a starter. We both agreed- tasty but nothing special. The spinach was the best part. I had the Linguine Tossed with Kilmore Quay Crab Claws, Chilli, Lemon, Garlic, Shallots&Flat Parsley- 16.50 and I liked it. I wasn't too crazy about the crab, there were several crab claws pieces, but almost no crab meat on them. The linguine in the sauce was delicious. Hubby had Linguine with Dry Cured Fermanagh Streaky Bacon, Paris Brown Mushroom, Baby Spinach, white wine cream sauce which was delicious! Dessert hubby had the Flourless Chocolate, Orange & Almond Cake, orange & chocolate chip ice cream and neither of us liked it. I had the Chocolate Tart, raspberry ice cream which was very nice. When we were first told about this restaurant, we were told they have a $20.00 preset menu. I didn't think much after that than a quick bite. When we arrived I was super impressed with the setting. Very nice restaurant with a beautiful setting and layout. We both ordered seafood chowder. And when it came out and my first spoon. I was SHOCKED, it was amazing and plentyful. The rest of the dish ie my pork belly was outstanding. When we were done I said to my wife, that was shocking. The customer service, the setting and the food totally exceeded my expectations. My last night in Dublin and I suffered a very disappointing meal. The wine list is pretty good but the food left me hungry. I got a salad with nice ingredients but for the first time in my life I had to salt a salad. I ordered a pancetta wrapped pork that came out dry. I asked to send it back and they complied professionally. I reordered by choosing the seafood linguini. It was riddled with black pepper and little else. There were exactly two pieces of calamari in it, a lot of tasteless mussels and a couple of prawns. I ate the protein, and some pasta but couldn't finish it. I had to ask for bread. I had to ask for salt and pepper. At the end they charged me for 2 glasses of wine when I only drank one. I asked them to give me a discount because I was unsatisfied and almost cheated. A feisty server came by to give me a lecture about throwing away good food insisting it was"juicy"... and no I would not be getting a discount. Perhaps I enjoyed her indignation a bit too much, because she turned on her heel to confront me. I thought it prudent to let silence speak for me. The staff work all the tables together so one is asked several times if you want to order but no one actually pays attention to you. They are fast and professional, but also breathless and anxious. The food is much better in concept than in execution. The atmosphere is quite nice. Maybe they'll get a better chef and rethink the service arrangements. If your going to spend $$ do it elsewhere. read more

101 Talbot was an adventure and pleasure for dinning. Seeking a dinner option, I stepped in Sports Direct and asked the security man if he could recommend a place to eat. He told me that if it was him, he would go to 101 Talbot. Having always fared well with locals' recommendations, we headed that way. The restaurant is on the second level so you have to be looking for the doorway and stairs leading up. The wait staff were friendly and very helpful making suggestions. I had the special which was a roast pork fillet wrapped in tarma ham, Apple cheddar, with fennel stuffing. My wife had the chargrilled steak, and my daughter had the tandoori chicken. We each tasted the others' meals so I can attest to their wonderful taste. Truly a terrific meal and delightful evening. This may be an American observation, but the way they make potatoes is truly wonderous. Sure I have had mashed, boiled, baked, creamed, fried, pureed, but they add a special twist to theirs!  If are in Dublin, I would highly recommend you stop by and try the delicious cuisine! read more

Excellent dinner and attentive service. A truly serendipitous find. We went for dinner at 9 PM. Restaurant was not crowded. My wife had the vegetarian lasagna with lentils and garbanzos. I had the fish chowder and the John Dory -- a flavorful white fish. Both mains and the soup were excellent, as was our shared desert - flan with rhubarb sorbet. We drank beer so cannot comment on the wine selections. Service was efficient and friendly. All in all, an excellent, low-keyed dinner experience. read more

he north side of Dublin city isn't really known for its selection of restaurants, however 101 Talbot is one of the good ones. Well known and respected, I've been to it a few times and have always enjoyed myself. The menu is diverse, with something for everyone, and I'm particularly fond of the pan-seared tuna, which I've had a number of times. I did have steak once and asked for it medium rare, and it came out far too rare for my liking. But I wouldn't hold that against them - I find that restaurants tend to vary when it comes to interpretations of medium rare. The service is always really good - the last time I was there I was with my parents for my father's birthday and the staff had no problem putting candles in his dessert and lighting them before bringing them to the table. (I think they even sang!) I had phoned in advance to ask them if they could do this and they were more than obliging. The décor in 101 Talbot is great too - the seating is on different levels - and while it can get a little noisy you don't mind as the atmosphere sort of suits the buzz. It's a place I always look forward to going back to, and my father still raves about it! read more

I give this a really low rating intentionally, because it should really be about a three, and is at the moment way over-rated. Nice, attentive staff, ok surroundings--see picture. Basic food was tasty, but swimming in butter, or sauce. Vegetables were al dente, but swimming in butter. That said, for €85, we had a tasty well prepared salad, a pork cutlet dinner, a sirloin steak w/ brandy pepper sauce (steak au poivre) dinner, a bottle of house white and a glass of red. It was like an IHOP, lots of very good tasty food, with some seriously fat clientele. read more

Such a cute spot in the city center of Dublin! We happened upon this restaurant and were so glad we did! We had the marinated olives and smoked trout salad as a starter and followed it up with the free range chicken and steak for our main course. Finally, we tried the toffee dessert. Location was great, a short walk down the street from O'connoll street. Go upstairs and you Walk into a brightly lit and decorated restaurant , there were plenty of available seats. We started with the goat cheese salad, the crab, and the sausage which everyone enjoyed; smaller portions not really good for sharing so we each got our own. No complaints on drinks; beer, cider, and a red wine. For meals we had steak, chicken, and also lamb which everyone really enjoyed. The service was friendly and attentive. Dessert was definitely why they only get 4 stars; the ice cream was weak. The cheese board seemed to be their strongest one. 101 Talbot (on the second floor) offers a lovely mix of modern Irish cuisine. The reason we went there for the second time were their excellent vegetarian dishes combined with great meat for fish food choices. I really liked the atmosphere, which was casual combined with an excellent service. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because they had no beers on tab, only bottles. It is definitely worth a visit, especially if you have vegetarians in your group. read more
