Went there for lunch with a friend. Plenty of parking. A little busy area. Service is not very friendly. Just order your food they don't make eye contact. Place is clean. Food was just ok not very impressed. There's a big variety of combos. Maybe I didn't order the right one.

Wrong order delivered. There's a difference between imitation crab and tuna. Orders spicy tuna and received spicy crab. Proof is in the receipt. And They don't answer their phones.

Spicy California Roll ($8.22) dtd 19July2024

It was 10pm and I wanted something to eat. If you're familiar with the area, there are five burger brands, a couple of takeout pizza options--and I could look for a taco truck nearby. But I wanted sushi, of all things. I was bemoaning the fact that if I was in some other part of the city (like K-Town), I could get some sushi. On a lark, I Googled "late night sushi" on my mobile and RollStop Sushi came up. RollStop Sushi occupies a small space in a shopping center. It has some indoor seating, but I suspect it fulfills a lot of takeout orders. It is open daily, from 11:30a to 11:30p. On this first visit, I ordered: the Nigiri Combo ($19.18), and the Spicy California Roll ($8.22). With tax ($2.60), the order was $30.00 before any gratuity. The California roll was okay. The price and serving size isn't out of line, compared to other takeout sushi stores of this type. The better value was the Nigiri combo. The size of each piece of fish was generous, and the protein carb ratio tilts in favor of the protein. Keep in mind that this is not a fancy sushi restaurant; but the quality is good. I'm giving RollStop Sushi a "5" because the store is clean; the food is good; and the owners of this store keep it open 12 hours a day (not including opening and closing prep), seven days a week.

Miso soup and party platter b

The good: I got party tray B for around $95 for 5 adults and 1 toddler. There were California rolls, shrimp tempura rolls, ahi tuna, salmon, and more. I liked that it was quick to order and ready for the entire family because I was in a rush to get lunch with my newborn and toddler at home. It was nice that the Mayo sriracha sauce and eel sauce were on the side as well as the crispy fried onion. I thought the price was reasonable. They offer delivery as well. I'm two weeks post partum so sushi was one of the foods I was looking forward to consuming. The bad: The miso soup didn't have any pieces of seaweed in it and it was quite small. The interesting: I liked the plastic party tray itself so I kept it so I can use for a potluck in the future. They gave some packaged ginger and also some ginger in a separate plastic container.

Urgent Care visit after eating bad salmon from Rollstop

Questionable Food Prep/Storage. A friend and I went here earlier this month and got sick. We orderent different items, but both containing salmon, and both of us had stomach pain and diarrhea. My friend's case was so severe that he had to go to urgent care. I called Rollstop several times over multiple days to alert them and request a refund. They never picked up, and their voicemail was full, so sent a text sharing our experience. They asked for the date, time, what we ordered, and a doctor's note, which I provided. They have since ghosted me and never reversed the credit card charges. Is it wrong to want your money back from a place that got you sick? I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but given their dodgy nature and excessive requests (that we satisfied) and no response or actions since, I question their practices. This is also a public safety issue, so I will be escalating this to the California Food Safety board, and would discourage dining there until they have been checked out.

Meh.. Definitely a one and done. We gave it a try since it's near us but were simply not satisfied with the quality and taste.

There are people behind the boards prepping the food.

We decided to come in and see if this near automation was good. My girlfriend and I were pleased by the results. We had our sushi, rice and miso soup. The prices were good, the sushi was on point and the beef gyoza was a surprising deliciousness. We will come back without any doubt. Definitely gave me a feeling of what it's like in Tokyo eating at one of those fully automated places.

$30 and I only got 5 rolls and was all messed up. I have had sushi here before and loved it and got 8 rolls and it was good and presented well. But this time around I'm very disappointed that for the amount of money for one person I got less food and not nicely put together. :(

Baked Salmon Roll, Dragon Roll and Monroe Roll
    Jason L.

For this place being a more of a fast-casual sushi spot, it's a little pricey given the ambiance and set up. I didn't see anyone dining there and all orders were takeout. A roll will run you around $15-20 bucks and each roll has about 8 pieces. We got the baked salmon roll, monroe roll and dragon roll. They were all decent but I think they put far too much sauce on the rolls which take away from the fish itself. If you're looking for sushi rolls and want something casual, this is your spot.

You can tell the place is always full of regulars, and there's good reason for that. We just had dinner there as a family a couple nights ago and it was packed and and busy, but the food came out quickly and we were attended to the entire time. We had a decent spread with a handful of rolls (the baja rolls are terrific), some tempura, and a chicken teriyaki bento. Everything was tasty and fresh, and I'd happily order any of it again. And I have to give a special thanks to our server, April. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and thoughtful. She really took care of us the entire night, and even went so far as to hold our one year old when he escaped from our table a couple of times. The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.
