Disgusting, food in our drinking water.

I brought an issue to the manager's attention after noticing there was food floating in both of our drinking cups. Instead of addressing it professionally, he became immediately defensive and rude. I showed him my girlfriend's cup and then mine, both clearly contaminated. He used his phone light to inspect the cup, then dumped the water out and pushed the empty cup back toward me, demanding that I show him where the food was. At that point, it felt more like he was trying to challenge me than actually help resolve the situation. He also implied we were trying to get free food, which was frustrating and completely untrue. When he asked if it was our first time there, I said no, and he responded with "I've never seen you here before," which felt dismissive and irrelevant. We showed him the sushi we had ordered, which my girlfriend couldn't even finish because she was so disgusted. Instead of apologizing or trying to fix the situation, he told us to leave. No apology, no accountability just a confrontational attitude. Definitely not the kind of service you expect when bringing up a legitimate concern about cleanliness.

Truffle Salmon and Albacore with Crispy Onion

Good food, good service. Casual atmosphere with lots of parking. One of the best spots for sushi or sashimi in the South Bay. It is located off PCH, adjacent to the Rolling Hills Plaza. Inside has lots of small and medium sized tables as well as an outdoor patio. There's a small bar with two tvs if you want to watch sports games or just chat with the chef making sushi rolls. We went for weekend lunch and were seated right away. We were astonished by the great selection of appetizers, rolls, and sashimi. It's almost a bit overwhelming. Fittingly, we ordered a bit of everything. Appetizers: crispy rice with spicy tuna and Takoyaki balls. Each had the perfect amount of crispy and soft. Both were yummy. Rolls: spicy eel tempura. Good flavor with varying textures. Spicy albacore tataki was ok, not my favorite Sashimi: truffle salmon carpaccio probably the best I've ever eaten. Lightly seared with a hint of smoke, a dash of sea salt, and a pinch of truffle oil. Just a unique combination that is truly delicious. Albacore with crispy onion was soft and buttery with a slight sweetness. Service was excellent. Servers are attentive, filled water multiple times and delivered/bussed dishes quickly.

The food was good. Service was great. We came in a little late but overall very attentive to us and gave us a little extra time to order even though kitchen was about to close.

A must try!! So fresh and delicious just mind blowing !! I'm still Service was amazing as well, nice little restaurant, just a great experience overall.

Cute little place. You can tell they take pride in keeping it clean and serving up delicious food ! The only thing I was kinda bothered by was there was only 1 server and he seemed really overwhelmed.. him being alone made him impersonal... BUT the food was great and I can't wait to go back !! Want fresh & beautiful sushi, Okane Umi is it !

"My treat!" I told my Auntie GodMom. Asked what she wanted for a Saturday lunch. She responded with, "Sushi." So I did some research a couple of days beforehand and found this gem. There were a couple more places in the running - both not too far from here - but this won out because I personally liked the menu better. Picked her and Uncle up and we were well on our way! It isn't very far from their home (which was another reason I chose this place) so we were pulling up in no time. We arrived within 30 minutes of opening time and every spot on their parking lot was available. "Not a good sign..." Uncle says. Eh, we're early, and I didn't wanna judge based solely on that. First timer customers of the day, so we got our pick where to sit. We were immediately given menus and glasses of water. The sushi bar was open so one can see everything going on there. The overall place was clean and had this homely feeling. I felt comfy immediately. I told my company that I had already scanned the menu and if it's alright, I'll order a bunch of stuff, and if they're still hungry after that, we can always order more. They loved that idea since they didn't really need (nor wanted) to think. EDAMAME: A perfect starter. Boiled soft, not too salty. It got our appetite going! MISO SOUP: Also another perfect starter. The miso and water ratio was a perfect blend. Broth had depth. It was a nice tummy warmer on a cold SoCal day, CRAB CAKES: I know, they're shaped like balls, but still pretty tasty. Maybe it's just me, but I tasted both real and imitation crab (more imitation than real) in each bite. They we're still prepped well and delicious. Mayo dip wasn't needed but altered the flavor on a different level. SPANISH MACKEREL SUSHI: Fresh and tasty. It's not as vinegary as some I have previously had, but delish nonetheless. GRILLED SALMON KAMA: A bit under seasoned but grilled almost to perfection. We all enjoyed this, most especially the fatty parts! The meat came off the fishbone so easily. Get this! SASHIMI SAMPLER: It was a combo of salmon, tuna, yellowfin and albacore. Every single one was incredibly fresh. They all stood on their own. If you're a sashimi fiend, this is for you! DEEP-FRIED SOFT SHELL CRABS: I never skip this whenever I see it on the menu. Neither does my AuntieGM, apparently. We each had a half. The batter was very thin, so it didn't take away from the crabs' main essence. It honestly didn't need the dip, it was great on its own. Dip does give it a different flavor profile which wasn't bad either. SHRIMP TEMPURA: Like the crabs, the batter was also thin so it didn't take away much from the shrimp. Nothing to call home about but delicious. Good crunch on the outside, nice and juicy on the inside. Elevated flavor with the tempura dip. FOOD: 4.5. SERVICE: 3.5. VALUE: 4. Soooo worth it! PARKING: Private lot. Not an issue for a weekend lunch. OVERALL: 4. AuntieGM and Uncle each ordered a chicken and pork Katsu as their mains. I guess their eyes were a lot more hungry than their stomachs because they came into realization they were full by the time they arrived on the table. No biggie, they took it to-go to snack on later. Auntie GM loved the edamame so much, she put in an order to go to have as an app when she has her happy hour at home. The whole place had gotten packed within an hour of our arrival. That parking lot - as big as it was - was halfway occupied during our run. They were impressed. As was I, and that's always a plus PLUS. They loved it so much, there are already plans of a return visit, "Next time, my treat!" AuntieGM said. I will absolutely take her up on that offer! You can bet a follow up visit to happen - hopefully sooner than later!

Salmon Nigiri

Such fresh fish, comes out super quickly, and very clean establishment. It was so incredible! Salmon just melts like butter.

"Money Sea" or "Sea Money" as Okane Umi translates to English...or maybe it's "Show me (see) the money!" I've been here a few times now and I always enjoy myself. Really, my only complaint is the prices but then, sushi everywhere is pricey so this gripe isn't solely about Okane Umi. Still, I do think they could lower some of the prices to attract more clientele but maybe they don't need to because Okane Umi is quite popular. I guess I miss the old Club Sushi (Hermosa Beach) days with my Dad. We were monthly regulars of their amazing Happy Hour which included 1/2 price sushi and specials on drinks. I'd love to see that at Okane Umi and I'd definitely frequent it more often. But I digress. The restaurant itself is modern and attractive and the staff is friendly and attentive. Our most recent visit was for my birthday and my Mom was treating us. I'd made sushi at home multiple times of late so I let her pay for us this time. It is DEFINITELY cheaper to make sushi at home (I paid $6.75 for two pieces of salmon sushi at Okane Umi and I can get a big hunk of sushi grade salmon at Tokyo Central for $10-$12 that makes about 16 pieces), that's for sure, and I've gotten quite good at it, I must say. But every once in awhile, it's nice to turn it over to the professionals. And professionals they are. In addition to regular sushi (which is of very good quality), Okane Umi's menu is large with many creative rolls being offered. I really like how the menu has pictures and full descriptions of each roll. Of the more expensive rolls, we ordered the Hulk Roll ($17.50 - Inside: Spicy smashed Softshell Crab, Crab Meat / Outside: Avocado, Spicy Smashed Soft Shell Crab / With: Sriracha on the Top, Eel Sauce on the Side), Yellowtail Cilantro Roll ($18.50 - Inside: Cucumber, Yellowtail, Cilantro / Outside: Yellowtail, Serrano Pepper / With: Ponzu Sauce on the Top) and two of the rather ridiculously costly Umi Handrolls ($24.50 each - Inside: Cucumber, Chopped, Bluefin Tuna, Sea Urchin, Black Tobiko, Cilantro, Jalapeno, Green Onion / Outside: Wrapped with Soy Paper). Aside from the Umi Handroll, I'm not sure why the other two rolls were priced considerably higher than 'Premium Rolls' which are priced higher than the 'Basic Rolls'. Basic rolls (like California ($7), Spicy Tuna ($8.50), Salmon Skin ($8.50) seem fairly priced; we orderd a Salmon Skin roll and it was tasty. But then the Premium Rolls are $12 - $17. Then the Okane Specialty Rolls are $14 - $24.50 with most being in the $18 average range. Okane Chefs Special Rolls are around the prices of the Okane Specialty Rolls. Oh, and I looked up what Okane means...MONEY! Again, I'm just bitching about high prices in general and these are pretty average compared to other good sushi bars of the same calibre. I just think the Hulk Roll and the Spicy Yellowtail roll could come down a few bucks...and well, the Umi Roll...it was definitely special but I too think that could come down a few bucks as well. As for the taste of the rolls, everything was great. I'd say the Hulk Roll was my least favorite and the my favorite is always the Yellowtail Cilantro Roll. The Umi Handroll was new for me and really delicious but I keep thinking about that $49 charge for the two of 'em. We also ordered the Honey Salmon Roll ($15.50 - Inside: Crabmeat, Fresh Salmon / Outside: Deep Fried (Seaweed Outside) / With: Eel and Spicy Mayo on top) and it was tasty as well as a couple veggie rolls (veggie tempura roll and a cucumber, avocado, cream cheese roll) in soy paper ($1.50 upcharge) for my non-seafood eating wife ($12 & $12.50) and she enjoyed them very much. We ordered a Salmon Roll for $9.50 and it was good. The sushi was great...three of us had 2 pieces of salmon ($6.75 each order) and 2 pieces of yellowtail ($7.50 each order). I had wanted an order of Ankimo sushi but they brought sashimi for $19.50; honestly, I didn't catch the mistake at the time but I certainly would have preferred the $7.50 charge for 2 pieces of sushi or even $11.75 for 3 pieces of sashimi. I mean, 5 pieces of monkfish liver for the only guy who would eat it is a bit much and I LIKE Ankimo....sushi. Our attentive server brought us free ice cream for my birthday which was a nice touch. Now, we ordered a lot and the bill was high for the 5 of us, in my opinion, especially with 1 non-fish eater and no booze. 3 of us ordered non-alcoholic drinks and the total with 20% tip was $306. One of the reasons we ordered so much is that my Mom (with memory issues) kept saying she had had only 2 pieces of sushi and she was still hungry. My kiddos quickly learned to also say that they had had only 2 pieces of sushi so they could get Grandma to order more. I had to put an end to this rather quickly but we were stuffed when we left. Bottom line: Great sushi, service and ambiance at standard (yet high for me) prices. Rock bottom line: We'll definitely be back next time this home sushi chef (ME) needs a break. lol

Easy 5/5, exceptional service, incredible food. Loved this place. I highly recommend.

We ordered a half seafood and half meat paella, with added lobster and pork belly. Unfortunately, the actual food was terrible. Main issues: * The bottom of the seafood side was completely black and burnt instead of having a crispy socarrat. There's a huge difference between crispy rice and burnt rice. * The lobster was severely overcooked, burnt, and tasted terrible. * The pork belly was an extra charge, but there was barely any visible pork belly in the dish. It honestly just looked like tiny bacon pieces. * All of the meat throughout the paella was severely overcooked. Positives: * Our waiter was very nice. * The ambiance was good. * The live music added a fun vibe. * It was my birthday, so they gave me a complimentary ice cream dessert at the end, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, none of that made up for how bad the paella itself was.

My group tried several dishes to share as they are on the smaller side. Seating was a bit cramped and the place was packed for a weekend brunch. Lamb hummus ($19) - This consisted of braised ground lamb served over some hummus and fresh pita. The pita was so pillowy soft and fresh out of the oven. The hummus consistency was a little on the chunkier side and not as creamy as I had hoped for. Bacari burger open faced ($15) - The beef is grass fed and came with caramelized onions, Worcestershire aioli, telera roll, and a fried egg. Although it was on the smaller side the burger wasn't bad taste wise. Lamb shakshouka pizza ($16.50) - This was served with pilpelchuma, arugula, red onion, goat cheese emulsion, and egg. The crust was too thin for my liking, almost cracker like and the sauce over powered the pizza, couldn't even taste the lamb. Brussels sprouts ($15.5) - These were caramelized and served with pomegranate molasses creme fraiche and julienne beets. This is a must get side when dining here. Shawarma chicken tacos ($16 for 3) - These had shredded cabbage, pickled red onion, sesame, and garlic tahini. I wasn't impressed, they were a little too plain. Crab cake benedict ($13) - Breaded claw meat, grapefruit hollandaise, and a sous vide egg rounded out this dish. It wasn't bad taste wise. Chicken schnitzel ($20.5) - This came with whipped feta, arugula-mint salad, and sumac onion. The batter was over cooked and too crispy. Tell me to meet you somewhere and I'll be there. Simple as that and less stress for me. Anyways, that's how we ended up at this place. Trying to find happy hour with food in the area was somewhat a challenge. Either they were finishing up or it wasn't that interesting on the menu. Of course some places offered amazing drink deals but no food. We ended up here actually across the street still looking up for places but the rooftop patio was what caught our attention. The restaurant itself looked bare as there was no one inside. Still on the early side but noticing people going in and then heading up stairs. After a few debates on here and there, we gave up and found our way here. Checked in with the host, letting him know that we just wanted happy hour upstairs. It was about two flights of stairs which the place looked quite industrial with all the metal beams and stairs. Downstairs was beautiful but completely emptied. Everyone wanted to utilize the rooftop patio as it was beautiful out. We were greeted by someone which mentioned to us that any bar seating was available. There was a section towards the back that was pretty lively. I think it was booked for a group. Instead of the bar area, we asked to sit along the rooftop counter that looks out to the street and building across the street. Way better view and perfect way to spend the afternoon hours. Staff were all pretty sweet and very friendly. Whatever we needed they were they to help. Both the regular menu and happy hour menu were quite impressive. As we just wanted HH, it was given. They had drink special for 10.00 and small bites for 10.00 as well. Didn't hesitate and started off with some drinks. The red sangria with mixed fruits was a nice clean and refreshing treat. Tasteful without that aftertaste. And the Le Pistolet Fumant, a delectable tasty drink with mezcal with a hint of pineapple. And other well drink that was perfect for a nice afternoon. HH drink special was quite tasty to start off. Food wise, started off with an order of the Caesar salad, simple but delicious. Fresh crisp Romaine lettuce and slices of Parmesan and crouton bits. Nice crunch with each bite. The dressing, wow pretty tasty. And an order of the Mac and Cheese . Most places it's either a hit or a miss and let me say it was a HIT. Quite cheesy and full of flavors that a second order was had. A dish I do recommend for HH. We also had an order of the Brussels sprouts which was excellent. A nice glaze and crunchy with chunks of house cured pancetta. Nice big chunks I must say. Lastly the beef sliders with Wagyu beef patties. Honestly, this was the least favorite of the dishes we got. You would think it sounded great but it was quite tasteless and nothing major to report on. Served with brioche bun and shredded lettuce and tomatoes and a lemon aioli. I had high hope for it when I saw the group next to us order it but it was a little disappointing. Overall, the Mac and cheese, Caesar salad and Brussels sprouts were all hits. The sliders, disappointing. Other items on HH didn't look too ingesting for us but it was for other people. The rooftop lounge and bar area was the place to be when we were there. It picked up real fast after we got seated. Picnic style tables being occupied by large groups before HH ended. Just the rooftop alone was great and beautiful. It a place that's good for a drink and meal with friends. Downstairs was beautiful but seemed more of an intimate experience. Overall, it was a great choice for a meal during HH.

You can tell this team takes pride in what they do. The wine tasting was beautifully curated, and the staff did such a great job walking us through each pour, sharing helpful details, and making the whole experience feel relaxed but still elevated. Every question we had was answered with ease, and the pacing was spot-on. Dinner was just as impressive. Our table shared the chicken, steak, and salmon, and every single dish was outstanding. The chicken was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the steak was tender and rich, and the salmon was beautifully prepared--fresh, delicate, and full of flavor. Sharing everything family-style made it even better because we got to try a little of everything, and honestly, there wasn't a single miss. What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. We felt genuinely taken care of the entire evening, and it made the night feel special. This is the kind of service and dining experience that makes you want to come back immediately--and bring friends. Highly recommend for a wine tasting, date night, or special occasion. We'll absolutely be back.

We ordered the duck cassoulet, pear and Gorgonzola salad and a very tasty salmon entree. They swap out wines periodically. We were treated to some top quality full bodied reds (Syrah, Cabernet) and our server knew his stuff to guide us with our picks. Make the trek out to Palos Verdes and you won't be disappointed. We'll be back for sure.
