    K Dragon Roll
    Yvette M.

We stopped by for lunch and were warmly greeted as we walked in. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety and descriptions of food on the menu which also included a separate lunch menu. Not being super hungry, we orded two rolls which included the Rainbow Roll and the K Dragon Roll. We really enjoyed both rolls. The fish was so fresh and the flavors amazing. The K Dragon Roll topped with eel was drizzled with the perfect amount of sauce. There is plenty of seating available which also included a bar and what appeared to be a covered patio. It was pretty mellow during the lunch hour on a Friday. We will definitely be back!

OKane Umi is my goto for the best sushi in the South Bay. They are always on par with the freshness of the fish. I had to order my Aji (Spanish mackerel). They always have an awesome plating for it. Thank you Okane Umi for the best service and the freshest fish!

    Habanero Salmon Roll! Yum!

Me and my sister's family decided to check this place out after a day out at San Pedro. We called ahead and were sat immediately. Our server gave us some recommendations when asked and we were kind of in a time crunch but my sister hasn't had sushi in a while so we ordered a bunch! My main roll was the Habanero Salmon Roll. The sauce had a good kick on it and the fish itself was fresh and delicious! We also had some squid legs and crispy rice tuna both of which were really delicious! The only main reason I had to dock a star was my sisters husband is vegetarian and was recommended a dish that had meat on it (fish flakes). Our server profusely apologized and took the dish off on our bill but unfortunately I still would have to dock a star. Overall though, everything we had was really good! The seating area is huge for bigger parties and really had no complaints aside from the non vegetarian dish. Would definitely come back again if I was in the area!

Truffle Salmon and Albacore with Crispy Onion

Good food, good service. Casual atmosphere with lots of parking. One of the best spots for sushi or sashimi in the South Bay. It is located off PCH, adjacent to the Rolling Hills Plaza. Inside has lots of small and medium sized tables as well as an outdoor patio. There's a small bar with two tvs if you want to watch sports games or just chat with the chef making sushi rolls. We went for weekend lunch and were seated right away. We were astonished by the great selection of appetizers, rolls, and sashimi. It's almost a bit overwhelming. Fittingly, we ordered a bit of everything. Appetizers: crispy rice with spicy tuna and Takoyaki balls. Each had the perfect amount of crispy and soft. Both were yummy. Rolls: spicy eel tempura. Good flavor with varying textures. Spicy albacore tataki was ok, not my favorite Sashimi: truffle salmon carpaccio probably the best I've ever eaten. Lightly seared with a hint of smoke, a dash of sea salt, and a pinch of truffle oil. Just a unique combination that is truly delicious. Albacore with crispy onion was soft and buttery with a slight sweetness. Service was excellent. Servers are attentive, filled water multiple times and delivered/bussed dishes quickly.

The food was good. Service was great. We came in a little late but overall very attentive to us and gave us a little extra time to order even though kitchen was about to close.

Disgusting, food in our drinking water.

I brought an issue to the manager's attention after noticing there was food floating in both of our drinking cups. Instead of addressing it professionally, he became immediately defensive and rude. I showed him my girlfriend's cup and then mine, both clearly contaminated. He used his phone light to inspect the cup, then dumped the water out and pushed the empty cup back toward me, demanding that I show him where the food was. At that point, it felt more like he was trying to challenge me than actually help resolve the situation. He also implied we were trying to get free food, which was frustrating and completely untrue. When he asked if it was our first time there, I said no, and he responded with "I've never seen you here before," which felt dismissive and irrelevant. We showed him the sushi we had ordered, which my girlfriend couldn't even finish because she was so disgusted. Instead of apologizing or trying to fix the situation, he told us to leave. No apology, no accountability just a confrontational attitude. Definitely not the kind of service you expect when bringing up a legitimate concern about cleanliness.

Cute little place. You can tell they take pride in keeping it clean and serving up delicious food ! The only thing I was kinda bothered by was there was only 1 server and he seemed really overwhelmed.. him being alone made him impersonal... BUT the food was great and I can't wait to go back !! Want fresh & beautiful sushi, Okane Umi is it !

"My treat!" I told my Auntie GodMom. Asked what she wanted for a Saturday lunch. She responded with, "Sushi." So I did some research a couple of days beforehand and found this gem. There were a couple more places in the running - both not too far from here - but this won out because I personally liked the menu better. Picked her and Uncle up and we were well on our way! It isn't very far from their home (which was another reason I chose this place) so we were pulling up in no time. We arrived within 30 minutes of opening time and every spot on their parking lot was available. "Not a good sign..." Uncle says. Eh, we're early, and I didn't wanna judge based solely on that. First timer customers of the day, so we got our pick where to sit. We were immediately given menus and glasses of water. The sushi bar was open so one can see everything going on there. The overall place was clean and had this homely feeling. I felt comfy immediately. I told my company that I had already scanned the menu and if it's alright, I'll order a bunch of stuff, and if they're still hungry after that, we can always order more. They loved that idea since they didn't really need (nor wanted) to think. EDAMAME: A perfect starter. Boiled soft, not too salty. It got our appetite going! MISO SOUP: Also another perfect starter. The miso and water ratio was a perfect blend. Broth had depth. It was a nice tummy warmer on a cold SoCal day, CRAB CAKES: I know, they're shaped like balls, but still pretty tasty. Maybe it's just me, but I tasted both real and imitation crab (more imitation than real) in each bite. They we're still prepped well and delicious. Mayo dip wasn't needed but altered the flavor on a different level. SPANISH MACKEREL SUSHI: Fresh and tasty. It's not as vinegary as some I have previously had, but delish nonetheless. GRILLED SALMON KAMA: A bit under seasoned but grilled almost to perfection. We all enjoyed this, most especially the fatty parts! The meat came off the fishbone so easily. Get this! SASHIMI SAMPLER: It was a combo of salmon, tuna, yellowfin and albacore. Every single one was incredibly fresh. They all stood on their own. If you're a sashimi fiend, this is for you! DEEP-FRIED SOFT SHELL CRABS: I never skip this whenever I see it on the menu. Neither does my AuntieGM, apparently. We each had a half. The batter was very thin, so it didn't take away from the crabs' main essence. It honestly didn't need the dip, it was great on its own. Dip does give it a different flavor profile which wasn't bad either. SHRIMP TEMPURA: Like the crabs, the batter was also thin so it didn't take away much from the shrimp. Nothing to call home about but delicious. Good crunch on the outside, nice and juicy on the inside. Elevated flavor with the tempura dip. FOOD: 4.5. SERVICE: 3.5. VALUE: 4. Soooo worth it! PARKING: Private lot. Not an issue for a weekend lunch. OVERALL: 4. AuntieGM and Uncle each ordered a chicken and pork Katsu as their mains. I guess their eyes were a lot more hungry than their stomachs because they came into realization they were full by the time they arrived on the table. No biggie, they took it to-go to snack on later. Auntie GM loved the edamame so much, she put in an order to go to have as an app when she has her happy hour at home. The whole place had gotten packed within an hour of our arrival. That parking lot - as big as it was - was halfway occupied during our run. They were impressed. As was I, and that's always a plus PLUS. They loved it so much, there are already plans of a return visit, "Next time, my treat!" AuntieGM said. I will absolutely take her up on that offer! You can bet a follow up visit to happen - hopefully sooner than later!

My friend and I ordered the pork belly, chicken meatball, quail egg, chicken thigh with green onion, fried tofu, zucchini, fried onigiri (grilled rice ball), and the potato (with butter). There were also specials off menu - we tried the chicken sasami which was incredibly tender. All the skewers were seasoned so well and the charcoal made a huge difference in the experience. We did pair our proteins with the onigiri and potato which filled us up. There were condiments to complement the skewers - Japanese spice powder, yuzu kosho, vinegar, and soy sauce. I pretty much had the yuzu kosho with everything. I'm not sure if there was something wrong with their AC, but it was quite hot in there! Where things became more complicated for me was the overall value proposition. The prices are undeniably steep, especially for Lomita. Whenever I dine somewhere upscale, I inevitably ask myself whether, for the same money, I would have rather gone somewhere else. In this case, the answer was yes. I was also a bit disappointed to discover that there is no full bar. The restaurant seems to steer guests toward wine and sake, with only a handful of beer options available. Unfortunately, the first two beers I ordered, an IPA and then a Modelo, both on the menu, both out of stock, which certainly didn't help my overall impression. The dining room itself felt somewhat drab, all black walls, and lacked the refinement that I would expect at this price point. Dark walls and a crystal chandelier create an interesting contrast, but small details stood out for the wrong reasons. For example, I noticed exposed holes in the bar where a purse hook or latch had apparently been relocated. It may seem minor, but details like that matter when you're charging premium prices. At the end of the night, my wife and I walked out more than $300 lighter. While the food was undeniably good and the service was attentive, the experience simply didn't feel like a $300 evening to us. Overall, The Food Library delivers quality food and hardworking service, but for the price, I left wishing the atmosphere and overall experience matched the bill a bit more closely.

The sushi rolls, cucumber salad were great. The regular dinner salad was ok. Ramen and other dishes were good. They have privacy curtains in each booth which adds a nice touch. The overall experience is good but i would have like the wow factor to extend towards the cuisine.

We walked in right on time for our reservation (because we're adults who respect the space-time continuum) and were ushered into a booth with "privatey" curtains. I'm not saying they'd hide you from the FBI, but they certainly provided enough cover for us to giggle and navigate stupidly through the menu. You can also order directly to a friendly human too. The atmosphere is colorful, lively, unstuffy, and private enough to enjoy good convo but not awko quiet. You order everything via an iPad, which is dangerous because when pictures of gyoza are staring you in the face, your impulse control vanishes. We ordered "a little bit of everything," which is code for "the table was structurally compromised by the weight of our dinner." * The Highlights: The pickled cucumbers (crisp enough to hear in the next county), the pork bowl, and sushi that actually tasted like it came from the ocean. The Fluids: Cold Asahi and Lemon Chu-His. Highly recommended if you enjoy being happy. The Verdict This spot is a unicorn--it works for kids, first dates, or "290th dates" where you both just want to stare at an iPad and eat kimchi in a tent. The Heartbreak They have a "10-Second Hit It" game at the front door where you can win a free meal. We were this close. We didn't win, but we're definitely going back to seek revenge.

I personally had the Hamburg Steak with Ponzu Dinner plate. It came with Miso Soup, Fresh Salad with a very refreshing sauce, the Hamburg Steak, and a side of rice. I also got a taste of the pork katsu curry and it was nice and flavorful. Overall, absolutely amazing flavors and well worth the price. Bussin bussin fr fr Service was so quick, we got our food very quickly. We already had miso within a couple of minutes and salad showed up as soon as i finished my miso soup. The server was very sweet and checked in on us to male sure everything was going well. We came in and there were a couple of groups already in the establishment and there was another couple and a regular that came in. There is ample space to sit and eat. Regardless of the amount of people in the establishment, the ambiance was atill relaxing and calm. No music, but I personally enjoyed that as i think it encourages light conversation.

But once inside it was crowded, lovely and electric. We were fortunate to be seated at a vacant table without a wait. It was obvious this was a hidden well-attended gem. I had the Stir Fried Clams in Garlic Butter Broth and my guest dined with the Stir Fried Pork & Cabbage in Garlic-Pepper Sauce. These were very reasonably priced main dishes and were excellently presented. Both had a lovely aroma and exquisite taste. My dish had a unique, wonderful taste and certainly didn't need any extra sauces or seasoning. It was more than adequate as a complete meal (although we sid have appetizers). My first and I had a great time dining here and will definitely return. Parking is easy. There is a small parking area just outside the restaurant as well as an enormous parking area very nearby. The parking lot is shared by several business including a CPK but there was plenty of room to park. This restaurant has my unconditional endorsement.
