Went there for lunch with a friend. Plenty of parking. A little busy area. Service is not very friendly. Just order your food they don't make eye contact. Place is clean. Food was just ok not very impressed. There's a big variety of combos. Maybe I didn't order the right one.

Wrong order delivered. There's a difference between imitation crab and tuna. Orders spicy tuna and received spicy crab. Proof is in the receipt. And They don't answer their phones.

Spicy California Roll ($8.22) dtd 19July2024

It was 10pm and I wanted something to eat. If you're familiar with the area, there are five burger brands, a couple of takeout pizza options--and I could look for a taco truck nearby. But I wanted sushi, of all things. I was bemoaning the fact that if I was in some other part of the city (like K-Town), I could get some sushi. On a lark, I Googled "late night sushi" on my mobile and RollStop Sushi came up. RollStop Sushi occupies a small space in a shopping center. It has some indoor seating, but I suspect it fulfills a lot of takeout orders. It is open daily, from 11:30a to 11:30p. On this first visit, I ordered: the Nigiri Combo ($19.18), and the Spicy California Roll ($8.22). With tax ($2.60), the order was $30.00 before any gratuity. The California roll was okay. The price and serving size isn't out of line, compared to other takeout sushi stores of this type. The better value was the Nigiri combo. The size of each piece of fish was generous, and the protein carb ratio tilts in favor of the protein. Keep in mind that this is not a fancy sushi restaurant; but the quality is good. I'm giving RollStop Sushi a "5" because the store is clean; the food is good; and the owners of this store keep it open 12 hours a day (not including opening and closing prep), seven days a week.

The good: I got party tray B for around $95 for 5 adults and 1 toddler. There were California rolls, shrimp tempura rolls, ahi tuna, salmon, and more. I liked that it was quick to order and ready for the entire family because I was in a rush to get lunch with my newborn and toddler at home. It was nice that the Mayo sriracha sauce and eel sauce were on the side as well as the crispy fried onion. I thought the price was reasonable. They offer delivery as well. I'm two weeks post partum so sushi was one of the foods I was looking forward to consuming. The bad: The miso soup didn't have any pieces of seaweed in it and it was quite small. The interesting: I liked the plastic party tray itself so I kept it so I can use for a potluck in the future. They gave some packaged ginger and also some ginger in a separate plastic container.

Urgent Care visit after eating bad salmon from Rollstop

Questionable Food Prep/Storage. A friend and I went here earlier this month and got sick. We orderent different items, but both containing salmon, and both of us had stomach pain and diarrhea. My friend's case was so severe that he had to go to urgent care. I called Rollstop several times over multiple days to alert them and request a refund. They never picked up, and their voicemail was full, so sent a text sharing our experience. They asked for the date, time, what we ordered, and a doctor's note, which I provided. They have since ghosted me and never reversed the credit card charges. Is it wrong to want your money back from a place that got you sick? I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but given their dodgy nature and excessive requests (that we satisfied) and no response or actions since, I question their practices. This is also a public safety issue, so I will be escalating this to the California Food Safety board, and would discourage dining there until they have been checked out.

Meh.. Definitely a one and done. We gave it a try since it's near us but were simply not satisfied with the quality and taste.

There are people behind the boards prepping the food.

We decided to come in and see if this near automation was good. My girlfriend and I were pleased by the results. We had our sushi, rice and miso soup. The prices were good, the sushi was on point and the beef gyoza was a surprising deliciousness. We will come back without any doubt. Definitely gave me a feeling of what it's like in Tokyo eating at one of those fully automated places.

$30 and I only got 5 rolls and was all messed up. I have had sushi here before and loved it and got 8 rolls and it was good and presented well. But this time around I'm very disappointed that for the amount of money for one person I got less food and not nicely put together. :(

    Jason L.

For this place being a more of a fast-casual sushi spot, it's a little pricey given the ambiance and set up. I didn't see anyone dining there and all orders were takeout. A roll will run you around $15-20 bucks and each roll has about 8 pieces. We got the baked salmon roll, monroe roll and dragon roll. They were all decent but I think they put far too much sauce on the rolls which take away from the fish itself. If you're looking for sushi rolls and want something casual, this is your spot.

My friend and I ordered the pork belly, chicken meatball, quail egg, chicken thigh with green onion, fried tofu, zucchini, fried onigiri (grilled rice ball), and the potato (with butter). There were also specials off menu - we tried the chicken sasami which was incredibly tender. All the skewers were seasoned so well and the charcoal made a huge difference in the experience. We did pair our proteins with the onigiri and potato which filled us up. There were condiments to complement the skewers - Japanese spice powder, yuzu kosho, vinegar, and soy sauce. I pretty much had the yuzu kosho with everything. I'm not sure if there was something wrong with their AC, but it was quite hot in there! Nonetheless, it retained its traditional izakaya décor with its counter seating alongside some regular tables. The staff were all new but still very courteous and brought the menu and water right away. New items were added but the core dishes remained the same. For this visit, we ordered our regular items and they arrived in 10 minutes: Eboshi Mini Trio with Shio Ramen, Fried Rice and Gyoza: The fried rice was still top notch, with slightly firm texture, not too oily, and pleasantly seasoned. The Shio Ramen with its clear broth was nicely savory. The thin noodles were cooked perfectly, and the chashu pieces were tender. To complement the set, the gyozas with their delicate wraps had nicely burnt bottoms, and flavorful fillings. Champon Ramen: A complex ramen with an assortment of meat, veggies and seafood. There were sliced pork pieces, shrimps, squids, cabbage, onions, snow peas and many more. The clear broth was quite savory and enriched by oil from sauteed ingredients. The noodles had a very nice texture and were a tad al dente. We were amazed that after all these years, the restaurant retained its original taste and flavor. We found out the reason why while exiting the restaurant: The young cook from two decades ago is now running the open kitchen as head chef. Great food and still reasonable prices. The dining room is relatively small, with roughly 10 to 15 tables, and the two employees working the floor were hustling all evening and did a genuinely nice job taking care of everyone. The food itself was solid. The standout dish of the night was actually the grilled asparagus, which came with a soy-based preparation that was absolutely outstanding, perfectly tender and cooked just right. The wedge salad was also very good, and both the 16oz ribeye@$86, and the 8oz filet mignon @$76 were well prepared and enjoyable. Where things became more complicated for me was the overall value proposition. The prices are undeniably steep, especially for Lomita. Whenever I dine somewhere upscale, I inevitably ask myself whether, for the same money, I would have rather gone somewhere else. In this case, the answer was yes. I was also a bit disappointed to discover that there is no full bar. The restaurant seems to steer guests toward wine and sake, with only a handful of beer options available. Unfortunately, the first two beers I ordered, an IPA and then a Modelo, both on the menu, both out of stock, which certainly didn't help my overall impression. The dining room itself felt somewhat drab, all black walls, and lacked the refinement that I would expect at this price point. Dark walls and a crystal chandelier create an interesting contrast, but small details stood out for the wrong reasons. For example, I noticed exposed holes in the bar where a purse hook or latch had apparently been relocated. It may seem minor, but details like that matter when you're charging premium prices. At the end of the night, my wife and I walked out more than $300 lighter. While the food was undeniably good and the service was attentive, the experience simply didn't feel like a $300 evening to us. Overall, The Food Library delivers quality food and hardworking service, but for the price, I left wishing the atmosphere and overall experience matched the bill a bit more closely.

We walked in right on time for our reservation (because we're adults who respect the space-time continuum) and were ushered into a booth with "privatey" curtains. I'm not saying they'd hide you from the FBI, but they certainly provided enough cover for us to giggle and navigate stupidly through the menu. You can also order directly to a friendly human too. The atmosphere is colorful, lively, unstuffy, and private enough to enjoy good convo but not awko quiet. You order everything via an iPad, which is dangerous because when pictures of gyoza are staring you in the face, your impulse control vanishes. We ordered "a little bit of everything," which is code for "the table was structurally compromised by the weight of our dinner." * The Highlights: The pickled cucumbers (crisp enough to hear in the next county), the pork bowl, and sushi that actually tasted like it came from the ocean. The Fluids: Cold Asahi and Lemon Chu-His. Highly recommended if you enjoy being happy.
