1. Rollin Local, Pawleys Island, SC is NOT the Rollin Local of Georgetown which my husband and I love. However, we chose to try out the Pawleys Island location and, boy, was that a mistake!!
2. The restaurant is NOISY and BRIGHT. Every light in the place was on, giving it the ambiance of a cafeteria!!
3. We were seated fairly quickly, which was a plus. However, after 10 minutes and no attention our wait person came by to get our drink orders. We love ZD and noticed it on the menu. We ordered a bottle and 2 glasses of water.
4. After 10 more minutes (no water, no wine, no setups) we received our $55 bottle of wine already opened, iced down, and two poured glasses of wine plopped down on our table. I was dumbfounded. I went to the manager, who was also the bartender, and complained about the lack of presentation and care with our drink order. She told me that all the wait staff were underaged and couldn't uncork a bottle of wine but could serve it at the table. When I complained that wasn't acceptable, she agreed that it was thoughtless and apologized. I asked for our food orders to be taken.
5. After 10 more minutes, our wait person came by (still no water!) to take our orders. My husband ordered the sashimi bento box and I order the tempura Shrimp bento box and 2 glasses of water. We finally got the water.
6. My bento box came without wasabi and ginger and my husband got sushi instead of sashimi. We ate anyway.
7. Before we were through eating, our wait person was anxious to rush us along (now?) and came by offering dessert, box for the leftovers. We were still eating!
8. Then we couldn't get the bill. I got up to leave while my husband awaited the check. I was so over the place! They did knock off a percentage of the bill since we chose to go elsewhere for our dessert.
This new location for Rollin Local has been opened in Pawleys about 3 months - long enough for proper training. These young ladies were so wrapped up in moving around the floor being busy, and, indeed, they were, but without a clue about what quality service was about. They were not listening when their customers spoke and they were not thinking about how to offer a good dining experience. I know that is not the philosophy in Georgetown and promise to only visit the Georgetown location from now on. It's worth the extra drive! read more
