Small update many years after my last review. Been wanting to try the steak and cheese and had one today. Overall not bad. The contents of the sandwich were of high quality and tasty. Good amount of cheese and the sandwich was juicy. The only issues I had were; it was a small sandwich (I understand that they're kinda locked in on the roll size), but for the $$ it was one of the smaller cheesesteaks I've had. The other more glaring issue is without a toasted roll you have about 30 seconds to eat this sandwich before it becomes a soggy mess. Not sure if they have the ability to toast these, but they should really consider it. 6.5 / 10 Side note....who knew how good we had it in 2019 complaining about the high prices of $7 sandwiches. read more

Easiest five stars I've given. Just had lunch there for a few volunteers and we ordered from Roland's. This was our first time ordering from there. Excellent customer service taking our order and accommodating our special requests for a couple of the sandwiches. The food was delicious. I will definitely be back. They were very appreciative for the business and I'm happy to order from them for now on. Great job! read more

I was very excited when the new owners bought Roland's and they started off great. Lately things have gone downhill quickly. We have gone 5 times now to find them closed during their posted business hours, no longer open on weekends and today there is a sign saying "their ovens are broken and we can't make bread" They BUY their rolls! read more

Just had possibly the worst sub, at least in my recent memory. Ordered a pastrami and waited only a few minutes. When I picked it up, it was about three ounces and light as a feather. When I got I home, I found a microwaved pastrami clump on a sub roll. Not seared on a flat-top or pan, just heated up in a microwave. Very little meat and zero flavor. I have been going to Roland's all of my adult life and some of my teen years. Moved away now I'm back, was a little scared when Roland's was sold and new people were going to take it over, but the new Roland's t extraordinary! The bread, pickles and all of the ingredients are sourced and done as the original owners did it!!! It's just like the good ole days subs. To compare a local landmark like Roland's to a national chain like Subway is pathetic. I weep for the youth of this country showing such loyalty to the mechanized food industry. The fact that Roland's has survived for decades in such a remote location speak volumes to their product. When I lived at Sawyer Mills Apartments I ate here regularly. No hots, no banana peppers, no this, no that..... you pay extra for mayo or mustard. These are the sandwich Nazis! You have to watch the video posted on another guy's review to truly understand where this philosophy comes from. Only In-n-Out burger can pull off a minimalist menu. These guys are serving so-so subs out of a tire shop. Really??? read more

So frustrating. I wanted to love this place. I love non-franchise fresh food. And the bread is amazing. But the meat and cheese is substandard. It might be "cheese product" as opposed to actual cheese. And I'm not sure whats up with the veggies--why certain veggies are chosen for some subs but charged extra for on others? And the "special" was compared to an italian sub. It has polish ham, american cheese-product, and cooked salami. It is nothing like an italian sub. But I found it really bothersome that they don't have hots--at all. And when I checked out the "menu" it said they charge more for mayo or mustard? I understand charging for extras. Condiments are not extras. I am irritated they suggest its "one of the best subs in new england." The bread alone is some of the best in new england. Other than that, its just irritating. That being said, a $5 footlong from subway is NOT better. Maybe I just had my hopes up too high and was so dissapointed by the lack of hots and seeming lack of choice in veggies (without being charged more). read more

A place where all the locals know. It's a well kept secret on the Seacoast area. Fantastic sandwiches! This place has been around for decades, despite spending it's first good chunk f existence in a tin travel trailer in an empty, rarely used parking. You were lucky to find his little gem. They moved their digs in with a Sullivan Tire place when they renovated. They occupy a little corner of the building and produce fantastic subs!! I always get the tuna loaded with extra pickles. Delicious!! The sub rolls are hand-made and there are times when you arrive in the late afternoon to a closed sign due to running out of rolls. Get there early! Lunchtime is quite a busy time. You'll find a businessman, an electrician, a student or a busy soccer mom all waiting for their particular favorite Roland's sub. Prices are reasonable... with an average being $5.35. They sell cookies and bags of chips, with a soda machine a few feet from the order window. You can always call ahead and have you sub waiting for you. read more
