Just try the hot chocolate So, RVR Co makes the best hot chocolate I've ever had. You can watch as they slowly melt Guittard chocolate chips into a heavenly chocolate paste, then mix in the milk. It makes one tear up and look for people to hug. Combine it with one of their bear claws and I think it legally counts as therapy certified by workplace EAP programs. Worth every penny. Owner family are great people, as well. read more

This is the worst coffee I've had in my life! The people behind the counter were pleasant and it's a cute little coffee place but the young lady making the coffee this morning clearly isn't a trained barista or she couldn't have served anything so substandard. I ordered an iced mocha with oat milk. I tasted over-roasted beans with oat milk (a splash at most) and next to no sweetener. I like my drinks just sweet enough to remove the bitterness but this drink was straight bitter. read more

It's the simple things (like the easy to read, simply laid out menu) that make this place great. The coffee is excellent. Go here for coffee. They have a wide selection of food options to enjoy with your coffee, but every time I have been there, which is quite a few, I have never received my food before being well done with my coffee. It usually takes 45 minutes or more to receive food or I have to remind them that I actually ordered something else. It is not a one time deal, it has happened every time. Just wrote a review on Noble's coffee house-ick! I moved to Oregon a few months ago after living in Arizona, (originally from Seattle). So far i've only tried a little over half a dozen coffee houses here in Ashland. Rogue is the best here in regards to friendly staff, food selection and relaxing environment. Food: there is a wide assortment of pastries, pizza, quiche, sandwiches, and even yummy breakfast burritos! I have been here several times for coffee and food. My favorites so far have been their spicy chai and spanikopita pastry (perfect amount of cheese, spinach and not overly flaky!) defiantly a must-have! Staff: Hot hot college grads working here. Love to sit in and flirt with the Batista guys :) Environment: Cozy neighborhood house remodeled into a coffee shop. Love the layout, and the front porch is a perfect spot for cuddling up with a book or meeting up with friends. A- so far, soon to be an A+ read more

Quiet little Ashland coffee shop located in an old house. It's enough off the main drag that it seemed to be primarily a locals spot. People were hanging out on their computers, reading books, etc. I appreciate that they have brewed iced decaf coffee and that they asked my husband if he wanted his chai sweet or spicy. read more

Nice off-downtown place to get a cup of joe ... quiet and neighborhood-y as opposed to the bustle and traffic of Starbucks, the Beanery or Mix. Internet access, very nice outdoor patio for three season alfresco sipping. Really, really good Blueberry Bran Muffins, yummy coffee's, relaxed service. These days, I only require one decent cup of the dark stuff per day. While I've been fervently working for over a decade at creating the perfect cup of french press in my own kitchen, you can often find me down the street at the Rogue Valley Roasting Company bowing down to the shop owner, Dustin Way's espresso pulling finesse. Besides the Roasting Company's Americano earning a spot on my less-than-legendary list of 100 Loved Things, I love that when I walk through the shop's heavy swinging door, someone greets me by name. I love that Dustin and his co-owner (and Mom!), Cindy - are local Ashlanders. I love that my kids can walk in there alone without people looking at them cross-eyed because they're kids and sometimes press their faces against the ice cream case and leave smudges on the glass. I love that even when there's a line of high school kids backed up out the door during lunch break, no one gets snippy. I love that the employees are treated well, respect each other and care about the customers. I love the safe familiarity - which on days when things are crazy in my life - can pull me back to center. That's a lot of love over something as small as a cuppa coffee. I'd like to order one of those to go, please. read more

I recently had two very enjoyable mornings working and hanging out at Rogue Valley Roasting Co. They have delicious coffee, tea, and quite a few snacks. I was very, very impressed with how well they are able to field a large number of tables in a relatively small place. I was even more impressed with their industrial electrical outlet setups, accessible from most tables and booths. As I have mentioned in other reviews of coffee shops, it is a crime when a place has only one restroom... At Rogue Valley, they have two bathrooms... definitely essential in a place that serves the world's most common natural diuretic and laxative!!! My only suggestion for a change at this great little shop is to make the menu and ordering system a bit clearer. The first day I was there, I did not realize they had real food other than a few cookies because the display case was completely empty and there were no menus posted on the wall or sitting out by the register. The second day I was there, I noticed a man eating a scrumptious looking little egg and cheese concoction and another lady eating a burrito. I went to investigate the empty display case and almost gave up when I suddenly found some menus sort of hidden on top under some other items. Then I ordered a little snack and it was awesome! They should definitely post a menu by the register, and then I would give it 5 stars! read more

Really good place for morning brew and breakfast. We had a yummy ham and egg drop on a croissant. They had vegetarian options as well, and desserts/muffins, too. The sweet chai I had was great. It was nice they served orange juice, too, as well as a variety of hot and iced coffees. We needed caffeine. Starbucks was busy. We came here. And I'm so very happy we did! On our first visit I got the butterscotch mocha and the hubs got the regular coffee. Both were great...mine was better, because butterscotch. On our second trip we both got butterscotch mochas. :) And we got the hazelnut chocolate crescent as well as the ham & cheese turnover. I like this little place. The beans were VERY fresh and perfectly stored. The espresso was poured promptly and correctly and the food we tasted was very good. The guy with the ponytail behind the counter was annoying in a sexist sort of way, but I live in reality and realize that not every place is going to treat everyone with equality. With coffee this good, it was easy enough to ignore. tl;dr Good place to go if you need a cup in a hurry. They don't do Chemex pour overs, but their espresso is insanely good. read more

I have been in your Ashland location twice. The first time was to purchase a Christmas present for my son. The service was great and I was wearing a shield due to copd issues. I was told that masks are required, but it was okay since I was the only patron in the store. Today I returned to purchase some beans for my personal use and wore a mask. I have to wear it below my nose for breathing issues. There was one other patron in the store besides myself, and I was told quite rudely by a person behind the counter that I had to raise my mask above my nose. I explained that I have health issues and was told it was company policy and I had to comply. I pulled my mask up and held it away from my nose so I could breathe while waiting. I was reading the signs in the store and noted one that said you could not taste your coffee inside, (heaven forbid you drop your mask for a second or two) you had to go outside and come back in if you needed a change. After reading that sign, I observed and employee dropping her mask and taking a sip of her coffee. So, exactly what is your "policy", is it only for customers not staff? If you cough or sneeze you use your mouth, not your nose, fact! So you are discriminating against persons with health issues and also setting double standard issues. As I was walking out the door, removing my mask on the ENTIRE time I was in the store. I like your coffee, but because of the treatment I received, I will never return to your business. read more

I was in Ashland at the end of October, being a bit of a coffee snob, I always look for a coffee shop that has fresh roasted coffee. I was happy to find what I thought was a coffee roasting company right in Ashland. The sign out front reads ROASTING! I looked around for the roaster but didn't see it out front, so I asked the Barista if they had another space where they did all of there roasting, he replied " I know the sign says roaster but we don't actually roast here" but that our coffee comes from Cali. I thought what the hell, I was already in the door, so I ordered a double shot espresso in a porcelain cup and a ham and cheese pastry that they would happily heat up for me. It was just my luck that they didn't have any demitasse cups and that all they had was a 6oz paper cup, to my suprise my double shot espresso turned out to be about 4oz with no crema and that they had completely forgot to put my pastry in the toaster oven. On a bright note, the staff was very friendly, and the place was very clean, maybe I caught them on a bad day, but with that said, I think the owners should have a new sign made and maybe have their espresso machine calibrated with their grind, just a thought. read more

I am not in the habit of posting often nor flaming a company however, a recent experience I had was disturbing. I have been what I would define as a frequent / infrequent customer of this cafe since 2004, before the current ownership. I usually am in Ashland 8 to9 times a year for varying stays from a few days to a couple of weeks. This place has been a favorite of mine for many years not really a function of the coffee quality but one of environment and the employees who have been exemplary in the past. On a recent trip I had ordered a Mocha mind you at nearly $5.00 not an inconsequential price. After finishing the drink I went to the counter as I have done many dozens of times in the past and asked for just a standard coffee refill which was always accommodated at the regular price of a refill. On this occasion I was charged the full price of a new coffee and told since I had a Mocha it really couldn't be considered a refill of a standard coffee. OK I would not had a problem with this with the exception the precedent of years of coming there and regardless of what my initial coffee drink was the subsequent refill was priced at the refill price. So you may think I am going over the top with this ranting but here's what put me over the top.....I told the girl hey no problem I wish they had enforced this policy years since I have been coming there etc....As I turned to leave another patron walks up and places his empty cup on the counter which was promptly refilled at no cost.....Now I'm pissed the girl who as totally intransigent on price with me gives this guy a refill no cost. I go back to my seat and about 20 minutes later same guy back for a refill and no charge. OK so maybe he's local and a regular but If you are going to enforce a policy with me don't be an ass and let the next person not pay at all. OK sorry for the rant but when you come to enjoy a place after many years that this happens you feel totally discriminated against. read more

First of all, this is the only place left in town that I know of that still uses REAL whipped cream (not from a can!) Their white chocolate mochas are the best - not too sweet but just right. The coffee is great, good variety and high-quality espresso. They have a nice (if small) selection of foods to go with your coffee drink. It is a great laid-back location as well, with outdoor seating and free Wi-fi. Because it is located in a residential neighborhood, parking is easy and it is much less frenetic than downtown, but still conveniently located. We've loved it for years. read more
