G&G Handyman

Gino is straightforward, honest, super diligent. Fair, kind.... he can do almost any type of job,…read moreand is easy to have around. Totally recommend Gino Aguirre at G&G Handyman

WORST HANDYMAN I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED…read more Here's what happened... - I asked Gino to do 2 tasks: 1) install an additional shelf in my closet and 2) transform an empty/dead space in my cabinet into a usable cabinet. He said he could do both and would charge me $300 for both tasks - I didn't even negotiate with him as I thought that seemed like a fair price? - For the cabinet I asked Gino to transform the empty space into a cupboard that matches the rest of my cabinets. First off, he asked me to pick up all the wood, plywood, and handles from Home Depot (WHAT!? I have no experience in this!). That should have been my first warning sign, but he insisted I do it. Then, he did a half-ass job of constructing a cabinet that barely even matches the rest - it looks like a 2 year old did it. Lastly, and most infuriatingly, I noticed that he put the cabinet door on backwards - with the brown/rough edge exposed instead of the polished white side facing out!! When I texted Gino to alert him to his mistake, he replied "Paint it white" - how condescending! What an awful handyman to suggest I finish the job for him that he did incorrectly! Pictures of the cabinet and text attached. - For the closet, I currently have 1 shelf installed but want a 2nd above the 1st. Gino drilled 12 halls into the wall and THEN told me he was unable to complete the task because there was metal behind the wall. Seems strange because there's already 1 shelf successfully up, but fine - I understand if it's a safety concern and he doesn't want to complete the task. The part I'm furious about is that he left the 12 drilled holes in my wall that I now have to now patch, sand, and paint!! Picture attached. I told Gino he could not leave my wall like that - and he said he would return another day to fix it - and I requested it be within the next 2 weeks... - Bringing me to my next point, his unprofessional, condescending, and a**hole behavior. I followed up the morning Gino was supposed to return to the finish/fix the job and he replied "In hospital. Bad Reception. Flu and Other symptoms". Ooook ... I texted you, didn't call ... but fine, I'll assume you're telling the truth and so I told him to rest, feel better, and we could regroup the following week. Upon confirmation the following week Gino replied "Can't work for 2-3 weeks. I'm past 60, my body is breaking down. Some faster than others - not sure when I can get back there". So I replied "Sorry to hear you're body is breaking down, but that's not the deal we made ... I paid you $300 for an unfinished job that I expected you to complete within 2 weeks, so I would like you to come back tomorrow or give me an exact date you can return" ... to which he replied: "Listen here little girl. I went there to do a job. And my job did not include painting. You have champagne taste on a beer budget. I'm out. Enough said". WHAT......???? All of these texts are attached. This is unprofessional, rude, and UNREAL - I couldn't believe he had the audacity to say such awful things! - Gino is a conman: he does part of the job, at poor quality under expectations, demands money with the promise that he'll return to finish, and then plays sick or flat out denies to come back. - Gino told me that he used to live in LA and went bankrupt there ... and now I understand why. He'll probably go bankrupt here in DC as well. Moral of the story: DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN - HE IS HORRIFIC. *Gino: I will gladly revise this review if you choose to fix the problems you created at my house or refund my money for an unfinished job. Otherwise this post will remain on your Yelp page to warn others against you.

My first bathroom by EP Remodeling (June 2023) was good. Competitive price, good work, and the…read moreonly issue is that the tub spout had a manufacturer issue and they came out and changed it with no extra charge. The owner did this bathroom personally. When we got a crack in the shower pan of another bathroom (Nov 2023), I called up EP Remodeling. This second bathroom was done by two other people (not the owner) and had some issues with the grout cracking, which they came out to fix three times, telling me "it's the subfloor." We also had an issue with the shower niche holding water (they are supposed to be slanted so that the water drips from the front, not gets held up). I am short, and this is above eye level, so I didn't realize it until it was molded over. My husband asked them about this on one of their floor visits and they told him "it's supposed to be like that, take your hand and wipe it away." This is when I stopped contacting them. I kept making band-aid fixes - fixing the cracked grout, re-caulking in the niche (the caulk had molded and peeled away from holding water). Now, 18 months later, I am spending $2,500 because the floor is completely hollow--the tiles were buttered with mortar (the tile and floor are both supposed to get it). Also, the cement board wasn't screwed down to the subfloor (which two contractors told me it was supposed to be). When I showed two contractors photos of the progress each day they pointed out other problems - like the fact that to screw the cement board into the wall for the shower they used drywall screws, not the specific screws that are supposed to be used (and are obvious as they have fatter heads)... but they did use those for the first bathroom. I am really disappointed in the decline in the quality of the work, but how they lied to me that it was the sub-floor (if it really was the sub-floor, wouldn't they have said something when the bathroom was gutted) or that a shower niche is "supposed to be like that." I would be very careful and get it in writing as to who will perform the actual work before moving forward. The price I got was great, but it's not when you consider the extra supplies I had to purchase when they came out to "fix" their poor work, the costs I'll have to pay another contractor, and the new tile I will need to purchase again... as well as living through things being torn out and fixed over and over again.

Highly recommend. Excellent quality and service. EP installed my new kitchen countertops and…read morebathroom tile walls and floor.

Mosaic was a great find and recommended to me by my contractor. I checked it out on Yelp first and…read moredue to the great reviews, decided to try it out myself. I've done a bathroom remodel before without the help of anyone at Mosaic before this one and now after getting the help of a design professional I'd never want to do without it again! My appointment with Cameron went very well. We definitely needed the full 1.5 hours to go over my preferences, look at images I brought in and pick out tile and then take down specs for estimates. Cameron's tile suggestions seemed be very inline with my own preferences. Plus, I was able to walk around and pick out many attractive tile choices to choose from. Mosaic also has a very large building with quite a few model upscale bathrooms set up to walk around and take a look at to help spark design ideas. Later the same day as my tile consultation, Cameron emailed me her very detailed and accurate architectural drawings of my bathroom showing everything I described to her for the remodel including the tiles, vanity, tub, etc. and contacted my general contractor directly as well. I was very impressed and pleased--considering this was all a free service to customers! I was also able to take home my tile samples to look it all over later in my house. The tile was not cheap of course. I have a relatively small bathroom in my townhouse but it still amounted to well over $2k worth of tile! I know I have expensive tastes but I was hoping my contractor would be able to get me more of a discount! Well, I may have to scale back the amount of tile I'm using and/or hold off on the project to save up more meanwhile but I know exactly what tile I want to go with now!

I worked with Mustafa who listened to my wants and was able to pull great options and even find something not on my radar that was perfect. It was an easy to navigate process and high quality materials. I appreciate the knowledge and options--highly recommend!
