Though Target Optical doesn't accept our vision insurance, Dr. Nomura is SO GOOD that I have chosen to pay out of pocket (the exam charge is reasonable, anyway) for my eye exams for the past few years, just to have Dr. Nomura check my eyes. I buy my actual contact lenses online because Target wouldn't work with me on bulk contact lens pricing.
I have had all sorts of problems with dry eyes, as well as with discomfort from contact lenses fitting poorly because my eyeballs are shaped just a bit funny (something no one else even bothered to figure out before Dr. Nomura.). I also switch between heavy computer work and occasional photography, which strains my eyes in different ways, and had a touch of astigmatism in one eye last year, but not enough for manufacturers to make a contact lens to correct for it. That made manually focusing a serious camera challenging.
Dr. Nomura is the first optometrist EVER who has been able to respectfully hear out and actually SOLVE my various problems. He really thinks about what I express as my difficulties, and then offers me different potential solutions to test out methodically. He keeps excellent written notes on what my eyes experience when I report back the results of what we try and then hones in on real solutions with amazing patience. He is just wonderful about explaining everything so that I understand and feel satisfied and at ease.
I am NOT "just a number;" I am a valued patient with real needs. We have been able to work together with a sense of "memory" from visit to visit even as the needs of my eyes change from year to year. He has really raised the bar on what I realize I can expect out of an optometrist.
He is so personally humble and demure in his intrinsic philosophy that it's supposed to be his JOB to solve problems well, that he just doesn't brag, ever. I don't know if he knows HOW to brag! Maybe we patients are going to have to step in on Yelp and do some loud bragging for him so that others can know what an amazing resource he is.
I am very disappointed that Target Corporation recently discontinued Dr. Nomura's lease at Target Optical, due to the corporate opinion that he "spends too much time with each patient." WOW, really....?! That should tell you something wonderful about him right there. He's not idly chit-chatting about some brainless TV show during patient visits; he listens and talks seriously and professionally about my EYES with me the whole time, and I am extremely grateful for that sincerety and care! Sadly, I am not surprised at Target's decision. I am terrifically fond of Target for things like toilet paper, shampoo, and Wranglers for my husband. But my eyes are unique and precious and my quality of life depends on them.
Wherever Dr. Nomura moves his practice to, I hope he stays in the area so that I can follow him to his new location as a continuing patient.
I HIGHLY, highly recommend Dr. Nomura. read more
