A terrific BBQ joint in the heart of Charleston that offers drive-thru service as well as indoor and outdoor dining. Small parking spaces so you would have to rely on street parking on busier days however I was lucky to park behind the restaurant on a Wednesday evening. Service was excellent! Let's talk about the food! I ordered a 3 meat combo: Brisket, Pork Ribs, and Pulled Pork. My favorite was the brisket however I wish it was sliced not chopped nevertheless it was tasty. The Pork ribs were delicious as well but I wish it was more tender. Pulled pork was nicely seasoned but not my personal preference of meats however it was my first time so I had to get a little taste of everything. I will definitely be back to try their brisket sandwich! The sides: Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, and Cornbread that all come with the combo. I enjoyed these sides as they hit what southern sides are all about. No problem there!

We arrived around 1;30 on a Monday and I was surprised it wasn't packed. We were able to,order right away. My wife ordered a chopped pork sandwich, our son ordered brisket and spare rib combo, and I ordered the chopped pork plate. My sides were Mac and cheese with beans, my wife had potato salad, our son had fries and Mac and cheese. Food was delivered in about 3-4 minutes. The first thing I noticed with the pork was the vinegar pepper taste. I know they mop the whole hog that way nit had more spice than I was expecting. It was good but it's just different from the pulled pork I'm used to in Kentucky. Mac and cheese was delicious. Lots of cheese and creamy. Beans were fabulous. Some spice which I enjoyed. Cornbread had a touch of sweetness but not overly sweet. My wife liked her sandwich but it was a little spicy for her taste. The potato salad was very mustard based and was delicious. We all enjoyed the fries our son ordered. The brisket was very good with a strong pepper flavor. Spare ribs, not my cup of tea. I prefer baby back but these didn't have the clean bite I enjoy. Again, nothing wrong with them a great taste but just different than what I'm used to and my preference. All in all, very good and I can see why it is so highly rated and recommended. Again, regional differences in barbecue are distinct and it is what you're used to and what you prefer. It was delicious. I would eat there again. I enjoyed the spice with the pork. Me personally, I'd recommend the chopped pork.

Tried the sides and the Mac and cheese was very good (very greasy) but good!! The potato salad was *‍* I crave the potato salad on a daily. The corn bread was so moist and full of flavor. The banana pudding was delicious!! We got two huge containers and it was gone in a day

It was so busy that indoor seating was completely full, but the wait for my food was reasonable once I ordered so they were very efficient. The staff also showed positive, friendly attitudes. The food was perfect-- tender pulled pork, flavorful greens, and soulful mac and cheese. I also tried the pork rinds which were not too salty like most pork rinds. My only regret is not ordering extra cornbread because it was perfectly fluffy and buttered.

Amazing BBQ spot! The brisket chili was a sneaky favorite. Ribs could've been a bit more tender but all in all solid spot!

A must bbq while in Charleston. Banana pudding, I need not say more. Get it. Also the pulled pork was seasoned sooooo well and so flavorful. Fries on point. Tiny bit off the beaten path. Great seating options indoor/outdoor. Friendly workers, delicious bbq. Rodney Scott is the man!

This was some classic South Carolina bbq. We were planning on going to a different bbq place with our visit to Charleston, but our uber driver insisted this was the place to go! It was very good. Perfect for a lunch spot. That was evident by the amount of locals in there just grabbing a quick sandwich on their lunch breaks. Had I gone on a warmer day, I definitely would have eaten outside because the outdoor seated looked so fun. I feel like the highlights for me were trying the 4 sauces and the Mac n cheese. The Kathy sauce was my favorite. This is definitely a place to try if you are looking for classic bbq in SC.

Went here for lunch and really enjoyed it. The menu is great--solid Southern food done well without being too fancy. Prices are reasonable, service is fast, and it's a perfect spot for a quick, easy, satisfying meal. Definitely a good go-to if you want something tasty and uncomplicated in Charleston.

Always delicious and fantastic service. We are fans since the Hemingway days and third-generation Scott's fans. The pork is great but honestly we love the brisket, turkey and steak sandwich just as much. Try the onion rings and the Bama 16 sauce. They're renovating the patio and outdoor seating area, FYI.

I love this bbq spot! However I felt the need to update my review to reflect a more recent experience since I haven't been here in a while. I waited over 40 mins for my order even though the restaurant wasn't busy. There were several empty tables inside and out. I understand that I placed a future order, however, the young woman who I spoke to at the counter had no customer service skills. When she couldn't find my order, she said "your order isn't ready & it'll probably be a minute since you placed the order for 3:30" As someone who works in customer service & given the nature an status of the restaurant, she should have asked someone if my order could be made sooner. After waiting 40 mins I went to the drive through where I was told my order "just showed up" & it would be out in a minute. I did not anticipate being let off work early, but next time I will not call ahead an order. The food was good as usual, however being forced to wait w/o even seeing if the order could be prepared sooner & the portion size of the brisket chili not even being a quarter of the container full, I will be trying another bbq spot next time.

Rodney's OG location... great BBQ! Rodney's whole hog BBQ is spot on. Smoky pork with spicy (sweet Kathy's sauce) vinegar sauce is the best.

I love BBQ and do a lot of my own smoking at home however (Honestly), these were some of the best Ribs I've EVER had. I got the Brisket and rib combo. Portions were huge! My wife got the chicken tenders and hush puppies which were also very good! Collard greens WERE THE BEST I've ever had, hands down. Great variety of sauces. Nice, clean place with super fast service to our table. Highly encourage you to try this BBQ!

Delicious and good value bbq! I'm not a huge bbq fan, or meat fan in general, so while I wouldn't say that I'm a southern bbq connoisseur, Rodney Scott's was great! We came at around 8:15 on a Saturday - it was busy, but we were able to find a table indoors and didn't have to wait to order. 3 of us shared the pit master combo of 4 meats and 4 sides for ~$42 before tax and tip. It was a ton of food, and we came home with enough leftovers for another meal for one. The brisket was our favorite meat by far, and the collared greens were our favorite side. We also shared an apple hand pie which was good but nothing that special, and the banana pudding which was huge and delicious. I would come back to Rodney Scott's if I'm back in Charleston and looking for some southern bbq!

Is this place very crowded at dinner?

    Yes, but they move quickly!

Will they likely run out of food or certain items by dinner time? I want to try to go a weekday for dinner and was also wondering how long the wait would be. Thanks.

If it isn't busy, the wait is roughly 15-20 min. I've only been for dinner on a weekday maybe 6 times, but there's never been a shortage of food. Enjoy!

Does anyone have tips about ordering takeout for a family of 6 on thanksgiving day, 11/25/2021? Is it recommended that I place an online order days or weeks in advance...?

When I went there was no option to place order online or over phone so.. IDK. Sorry & good luck.

Do they take reservations for lunch?

I do not believe so. We got there 15 minutes before they opened & there were 30 ppl in front of us. First come first serve I believe.

Do they have deep fried pork skins?

They had fried skins near the register

    Do they have Brunswick stew?

    No

Sounds like a classic place? If you can only make it there once what do you order?

I haven't tried it all but you can't go wrong with the pulled pork (sandwich or plate). The Mac and cheese and baked beans are really really good. And Rodney's sauce for dipping!

It was just after 12 noon and by some miracle we only stood in line about ten minutes. The rush came in shortly after although I will say they handle the crowds beautifully. When it comes to barbecue, I am a pulled pork girl and I have lived in Texas! I don't hate on brisket, but none of it has bowled me over. Until today. Once again, I wasn't ordering so I just went with the flow. That chopped brisket sandwich was so moist and full of flavor that it did not need a DROP of barbecue sauce. I did use the sauce to dip my fries in. I don't often eat macaroni and cheese although I do love it ( my hips don't!) but I had to try it or risk the wrath of my lunch companions. It was delicious! The best I have had in a restaurant. Collards were fresh and tasty. I enjoyed the rustic setting and certainly the company. They can choose dining spots for me anytime!

I wish I would've just taken an antacid and had the pork. I ordered the sliced lean brisket. It was not as tender as I would think and a little on the dry side. My husband had the pulled pork and our daughter had the pulled pork sandwich. Both raved about it. I had a bite of the sandwich and instantly regretted my meat choice. We ordered a pint of the mac and cheese, which was amazing! We also order a side of the tallow fries. Those were delish as well. The line was super long but they did a good job at moving it along. We sat outside at the patio since we had our pup with us. Great place to check out when visiting Charleston but I would encourage you to try the pork over the brisket.

We were greeted by a nice bartender who accommodated my request for a low vs high table. We then met Rachel, our waitress. She was very pleasant and attentive to us. Both my husband and I ordered the brisket, and I ordered pulled pork in addition. My husband ordered baked beans and coleslaw as side dishes. I ordered the collard greens. The brisket was outstanding in flavor. I finished that meat and moved on to the pulled pork. I was shocked when I put it in my mouth. It was SOOOO salty!!!! Now I know from my own cooking BOO-BOOs that you cannot use the same amount of salt on pork that you might on beef. Not sure Home Team's pit master knows this???? My husband said the vinegar-based coleslaw did not have much flavor, but the baked beans were good. He could not identify if they were canned-but I could see they did not appear soupy like most BBQ places serve their canned beans. My collard greens had a generous amount of meat in them-more than I would ever expect. What I was surprised with was that they were spiced up to the point, they made me cough with heat and had vinegar in them as well. Now, after a few bites, I did get used to them and enjoyed them. If I had my choice...I would not have wanted the vinegar on them automatically. When the bill came, I was a bit surprised. The menu had listed that you could purchase the meats by the pound. I specifically ordered as "I will have 1/4 lb of brisket and the same amount of pulled pork. I would also like just a side of collard greens and that is all." When my tray came, it had those Items on them in addition of a Hawaiian roll and 2-fried pork rind pieces. Now my husband specifically said, "I am going to have the pick one meat platter", which DID include the roll and rinds. My lunch should have cost $4.50 for the pork and $6.50 for the brisket and $4 for the collards---a total of $15. She charged us $22.95. She charged us $20.95 for my husband's meal, which was correct. As I stated in another Charleston, SC restaurant review...I am going to dedicate my remaining days when we retire here to SHAMING restaurants into doing the appropriate ethical practice of not up-charging patrons just to make a buck instead of winning their loyal patronage!!! It is disgraceful.
