French Dip sandwich with home made chips
    Rachel T.

I was excited to try this place for a while, loved sitting on the cupboard patio people watching friendly staff, and I very much enjoyed. My Greek salad recommended to me by my server. I was a little surprised how small the frozen sangria was, but it was delicious. I love that the Greek salad had chickpeas, and while the dressing did not look like an authentic oil based Greek dressing I expected, it was not overly mayonnaisy or yogurty. And was actually very good.

Our first time in Charleston, SC. We were looking for a place for lunch. We passed Berkeley's, saw the crowd and figured this must be a great place to be so busy on a weekday afternoon. We were not wrong. It was reservation only for the outside tables. Bar seats and indoor booths (3) were available so we sat at the bar. Another great choice. The bartender was excellent. Very friendly and personable. Food was delicious and was served quickly but we were not rushed. The bar serves beer, wine, and cider plus signature wine slushies. We had the special Thai fried chicken sandwich, a fried eggplant sandwich, and a beet salad. Also a side Caesar salad that had the best most authentic dressing we've ever had. You could taste the anchovies, it was that good!! If you're in Charleston stop in Berkeley's. You won't regret it.

What a great place! We came because I had read that this was the best chicken Caesar salad, and boy were they right! Just absolutely loved the chicken and the breading, just perfect! Everything was great, but I do think the smoked fish dip with house made chips was the star dish. Packed with flavor and crisp texture. Hailey was our server and she was wonderful. Patient and extremely helpful. The restaurant is has a laid back deli feel with comfortable seats and a great bar and outdoor space. We came for lunch and it was just wonderful. I'm interested to come back for dinner. If you haven't been, stop on in!

I went to Berkeley's recently and was reminded that I need to make this a regular stop. It is downtown but parking is pretty easy and you can usually get a spot without a long wait. We lucked out with Two seats at the bar. We were in the mood for chicken Parm so we decided to get chicken Parm two ways... one with the pasta and one as a sandwich with fries. Honestly I just wanted the fries so I could get a side of their cheese sauce to dip in. Plus, we got a Caesar salad to share because I can't resist those homemade croutons. They are so delicious. Inside seating is best but very limited. I did notice they have heaters on the patio for cool nights though. Also, I was surprised how busy it was on a random night so probably best to make reservations if you can.

How it has taken me this long to try this community-staple is beyond me, but definitely worth the hype. Enjoyed a chicken Cesar salad (necessary) with an orange wine and barbera. My friend ordered the burger and fries and didn't disappoint either. We sat at the bar and had the best service! The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing

Such a cute and casual spot! The sandwiches were super flavorful - we got the chef's special cheesesteak, and I'd highly recommend it. The Caesar salad with chicken was delicious too, though the croutons basically melted from all the grease they're cooked in. The meatballs were tasty but definitely reheated since the inside was cold. I'd go back on a nice day for the salad and sandwich, but just a heads up - there's no AC (or it wasn't working), so it gets pretty warm inside. Heavy food in the heat is not for me!

Really nice spot in downtown Charleston. I like that is it away from the busy main streets. We easily found street parking next to the restaurant. Service was great. I loved the chicken parm. The chicken was nice and thin and crispy. The sauce was flavorful! My mom loved her Reuben sandwhich with chips. My sister had a chicken parm sandwhich and loved it as well. My dad ordered the French dip and didn't think it was that great. Overall, the food was pretty good, especially the chicken cutlets!

My friends and I decided on Berkeleys to enjoy the beautiful weather and we love sitting outside. The patio is a comfortable and inviting spot to enjoy some sun. The food is always incredible at Berkeley's. They have the best chicken cutlets in town I always recommend them to everyone. The service is great and quick!

I was excited to try Berkeley's for so many reasons! 1) They own The Archer, which I absolutely love, 2) they accept Blackbird, and 3) their chicken parm sandwich was listed as a top dish. The food and service did not disappoint! The sandwich was huge!My boyfriend and I were able to split it for lunch and it came with homemade chips. Thinly sliced chicken breast and a sweet marina sauce! Our friendly server recommended trying the Philly cheesesteak next time (though I was definitely eyeing the artichoke sandwich too!). A great, unassuming spot with reasonable prices! Super cute and fun!

Stopped in for lunch while on vacation and really enjoyed this place. They have indoor and lots of outdoor seating. They also have an indoor and an outdoor bar which is super neat. The bar tender was super nice and friendly and she gave us some recommendations for other places to go. I got the prime rib sandwich which was fantastic. The chicken cutlet was great too. Service, food and vibe were on par. Def a chill spot I would frequent if I lived there

Debbie and I finally got to check this place out downtown which we pass by frequently. We tried their hummus, beet salad and the French dip sandwich and we were not disappointed. They have lots of cool things on the menu and even a frozen sangria machine with white and red sangria which we sampled :) Try the combo. The service was top-notch also. Highly recommend.

Ceasar salad with a chicken cutlet

Came here for Easter brunch and got a table outside. The drinks and food, AMAZING. The chicken cutlet was probably one of the best I have tried along with their frozen drinks. The ambience was very upbeat and relaxing. There isn't too much indoor seating but it was perfect weather to sit outside.

Solid 3.5! Caesar with chicken cutlet was good, but croutons were weird. We liked the burrata a lot and the tomato sauce was delicious on that plate. Ruben could've used more sauerkraut and more toasted bread. They have La Chouffe beer that my bf was excited about. Took them a second to take our order and bring food out but could've been bc we were hidden in a booth.

I am not someone who waits in line for a reservation. I always joke that if Jesus Christ is at the end of the line, I'm still not waiting. So... we paid someone to stand in line for us. The place itself is adorable. Small, intimate, and full of charm. I was a little thrown off that the only drink options are beer, wine, or water. Two people in our party don't drink, so that felt like a miss. But then the food came. And I get it now. It was, without question, some of the best food I've had in a long time. We ordered a lot, and every single dish delivered. The caviar sliders were unbelievably good, buttery, salty, and indulgent in the best way. The tuna toast, fennel and celery salad, and ceviche were all standout, with the ceviche being especially memorable. The soft shell crab and tempura flounder were perfectly done. Even the gundi surprised me. And to finish, the "not fried" ice cream and banana pudding were just outstanding. Service was excellent, warm and attentive without being over the top. The whole experience felt special. Bottom line: I hate waiting in line, and I still wouldn't. But I am very glad we found a way around it. Totally worth it.

Once they opened, someone came down the line to see if we wanted to sit now or put our name down for later. Definitely wish we would've just sat at that time since the earliest time they had once we got to the front was 8pm. Table wasn't quite ready when we popped back at 8pm but they walked us through drinks/wine lists while we waited outside and brought the drinks out to us while we waited. Got in to our table at 8:25pm. The food: Everything was delicious. We ordered 5 dishes between the 2 of us and ended up taking a little bit of the last dish home but only so we had room for dessert. Service was amazing, everyone was helpful and kind! Verdict: Would I wait in line, sweating in the 85 degree sunny weather again? Probably not. Would I wait in line again if it was a cool 70? Maybe. Honestly, didn't really fill the hype meter for me when there are SOOO many fantastic seafood restaurants in Charleston but glad I finally went! *not pictured: cacio e pepe fried cauliflower (are it before the phone could snap it)

Nice list of 3 mocktails so even if not consuming alcohol one can look to play the part at the table and enjoy the flavor notes of a well made cocktail. The first meal we had was a bit of a work/get together meal. We ordered an assortment of items off of the menu and created a more tapas menu. The charcuterie board we picked the cheeses for and it was lovely. All as expected and quite surprised to find a cheddar I enjoyed. Came with some grapes, figs, nuts, honey and I think mustard. Glazed carrots were phenomenal. Heartily enjoyed the beet salad and thought the presentation was quite pretty. Lamb lettuce wraps are alright. Not my favorite of all the dishes served but delivered as promised, nicely cooked and presented. Spouse really liked the lamb wraps and were a stand out dish to them. Meatballs are excellent truly great texture and flavor. Escargot was a fun take on a classic dish. Finished with a unique strudel in its presentation it was quite pleasant. Spouse liked the peanut butter chocolate dessert. For brunch, I had the carrot ginger soup. Which I must say was a total delight. The soup had the hallmark texture and base flavor of the carrot ginger but it had a beautiful breath of savory and some heat seasoning wise to it. It was quite an elevated soup and heartily enjoyed! I followed the carrot soup with a French toast. I am all for softly scrambled eggs but the French toast was a touch undercooked. (I did not let the restaurant know or give them the chance to make right. I regularly eat soft boiled eggs and soft scrambled so I felt comfortable with consuming them.) Strawberries were ripe and tasty. The whipped cream was gorgeous in thickness and flavor. One in law had the caesar salad with croutons and grilled chicken. Their bowl was left clean so while they are not the talkative of sorts they did seem to enjoy it. Ordered a baguette with butter. Unfortunately the butter never made it to the table but the baguette was enjoyed. Spouse had the Azur burger with the side of tapas style potatoes. All was cooked properly to temperature and texture. Flavor and taste as promised. Wasn't their favorite dish at Azur as we had tried so many lovely dishes a few evenings before. But it did deliver on what was represented in the menu. Other in law had the quiche and a side salad. They liked the quiche and would order it again.

In looking for a restaurant for dinner on Sunday night I happened across Sorghum & Salt. The menu looked great so we made a reservation to eat a the Chef's Counter. This turned out to be a great decision all the way around. We were seated right in the middle of the Chef's Counter. The gentleman who waited on us was great. He explained the menu well and provided good direction on wine. All of the other employees we interacted with were friendly and helpful too. On the to important part, the food. The three of us shared plates throughout the meal. i want to hit the highlights. We started with the Seared Blue Fin Tuna, the Radishes, and the Cauliflower. We picked the tuna dish after watching one being made almost in front of us for another table. It was as good as it looked. It was different than any tuna dish I have had thanks to the cashew tahini the dish sat on. The flavors together were great. The Cauliflower was cooked, then maybe fried, and tasted great with the green curry and peanut sauce. We enjoyed this dish. Out of the three I think that, surprisingly, the Radishes were my favorite. The dish includes almond, charcoal, and green olive. There also was fresh dill that was great. The flavors were fantastic and took away some of the usual sharpness you have with radishes. If you go, try this dish. The mains we shared were the Market Fish and the Carrot Bolognese. The Market Fish was great. The sunchoke veloute, mushrooms, and salsa verde added great flavor. But I want to spend more time on the Carrot Bolognese, which was my other favorite dish. It included rigatoni, labneh, and ricotta salata. I am not a good enough cook to deduce how exactly the carrots were cooked and prepared, but it was a carrot based sauce over the rigatoni and it was simply fantastic. Even my carnivore wife and son thought it was amazing. If you find yourself in Charleston and want to treat yourself right, you need to make your way to Sorghum & Salt.

My wife and I settled on a three star rating for the following reasons: 1. Some of the food was very good (more comments). 2. Some of the food was not so good. 3. It was quite expensive for what it was. So first, I'll discuss the cost. We understand and appreciate that restaurants need to be able to provide for their employees and we want them to be paid well and have appropriate benefits. If that drives up the cost to the customer, we understand and accept, and we knew the prices before we went. But $32 for a bowl of rigatoni with carrot sauce seems a bit much. But again we knew the cost when we ordered it. We had a couple of exceptional dishes that we would recommend if they're serving them again. We started with the Gouda tart, which had tomatoes. The crust was excellent as were the tomatoes. The whole dish was a winner. We then had a cauliflower dish. I thought it was going to be with curry, but it came out with a peanut sauce. It was very good also. My wife and I differ on the pork dish. She thought it was too salty. I thought it was fine. I thought it was a good dish. She did not like it. And then the rigatoni dish was just a complete mess if you ask. It was not very rich or saucy. Frankly, it was pretty bare as we are considering it. It didn't even have any cheese on the top as you would expect a pasta dish to. We ordered the cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake itself is OK but it was served with blueberries and I swear they were frozen blueberries or something. They certainly were not fresh blueberries. And the menu said that would have a white chocolate caramel sauce, but I'm not sure ours did. In any case the blueberries really distracted from the dish. As we write this review, we wonder if they're making substitutions for what is on the menu even though the menu was updated daily. All in all, it was an interesting experience. I think there are lots of places in Charleston that might be better.
