When I walk into a store and don't really have a clue, it's really nice to know that the person behind the counter knows what he's doing. I was able to get recommendations, he explained to me the difference between the paints, what sheen would work well for my bathroom and even how to make the most for the money I was spending. I swear, when you get great customer service, it just makes the experience so much more enjoyable. I came out of the store more knowledgable about paints! He also agreed to use fiberglass tape because paper drywall tape has a tendency to bubble if not properly applied, which it has now. Moreover, the cause for drywall tape bubbling or cracking is almost always not enough mud under the tape or too much mud on top. This was not the professional job I expected.

I'm not sure what changed, maybe new managers? For the past few years employees seem more friendly and more helpful. I no longer wonder around trying to find an item. Now someone will approach me and asked if they could help me find something. This is a welcome change from years ago. Yesterday was the best of all. I went into have some keys made and there was no one at the kiosk, so I went to the paint counter and they called someone to help me. Nathan was there in seconds to make my keys. Of course I joked around and told him I wasn't sure if it was a self service kiosk, and he said that they do have a self service one at the other end of the store. Nathan was very friendly, personable and very polite. He is probably one the friendliest employees I've ever encountered at the Home Depot in Hercules. The cashier, Carey was also nice and friendly. Based on my visits over the past few years and yesterday I'm officially a Home Depot loyal customer and won't need to drive across town to Ace Hardware. Home Depot has a some good sales which I don't remember them having years ago, so definitely a good reason to shop there.

I used the Yelp app and met with 4 painters. One was booked until Nov, one declined the bid since he was paint only and limited carpentry, one gave a really high bid, and then there was Felix who we eventually chose. Felix was perhaps the most transparent in terms of work scope and he took the time to measure and estimate how much wood and siding would be needed. He also has teams of both carpenters and painters so he does dry rot repair and painting. They also use ladders with fall protection for the high places, as opposed to scaffolds which would of course add more cost. The whole job took 2 weeks - 4 days of prep, and 3 days of painting using mostly sprays and hand painting of siding. Very professional job and 5 stars: 1. Daily communications by text and updates 2. Thorough covering of windows and doors 3. Clean work area after each day 4. Extra credit for getting rid of loose wiring, the previous owner's dish, and fixing a broken gate 5. Honest and transparent pricing - we had a change order since during prep, more dry rot was found than at first glance. Highly recommend Felix for your exterior wood repair and painting needs.

They helped me understand the pros and cons of redwood, James Hardie, and radiata pine. I ultimately purchased redwood siding and Eddie helped me place an order for custom-milled wood that perfectly matches my original siding from 1950. The new siding looks fantastic and blends perfectly with my old siding. Eddie and Tony were also flexible and went out of their way to help me. I changed my mind at the last minute about the color of my Fiberon composite decking and they allowed me to change my order with no problem. They also made sure I got all the proper hardware from Fiberon, which was tricky. Overall, Dolan Lumber was invaluable for my whole house remodel.
