First, the woman at the front counter is fabulous. She referred me to Garth to locate the correct 'springs' for a broken toaster oven door. I had the spring specs but Garth said if you bring it in I can give it a look. Next day, I did just that. Toaster oven door now works! Above & beyond. Small tucked away hardware store with limited selection but have enough to find what you need. The staff are super helpful and can find one at every corner. I've had to come here various times for small Knick knacks house projects or fixing and they had everything I needed and can easily find compared to going to Home Depot. I have been a long time devoted customer of this Ace. It's close to home and I want to support a local shop. I went to Ace to get paint, which I buy often. Now I have spent thousands of dollars here because I own my own business. I had an exchange because I bought the wrong item. They told me I can not exchange the item for the correct one. Now remember I go there all the time and the girl that was there saw me buy it. Then I ask, can you make some paint? Ummm, no I have some customers in front of you. What? Whoever provides the customer service here must have called in sick today. I do not enjoy getting on yelp and giving bad reviews because the interactions aren't fun for me as a customer. From someone who has many years of hardware and key experience I hope the management of this store can read this review and it help provide some insight. I had three house keys made today and only one worked. Now I know from experience that there is a chance a key wont work first try when getting duplicated. When I looked at the keys I realize they weren't even buffed. I go back to the store and tell the associate. She tells me she has been a locksmith for twenty years! That they keys may not have been buffed to my specifications! AT THIS MOMENT PLEASE PAUSE AND RE-READ THE LAST TWO SENTENCES. The only specifications of buffing a key I have is for them to work! I don't know what kind of locksmith doesn't buff house key duplications. This worker would make me quit if I worked here. She rushed through cutting my keys the first time and didn't even apologize when I came back. The proper way to handle this interaction from the employee should be, "I apologize that happened let me take care of that for you." I understand you cant teach an old dog new tricks but I hope management can tell this lady her shitty attitude only turns business away. Ended up fixing the workers mistake of the keys in my shop, I would have done it the first time to not go back and see this lady, but one of the keys that didn't work was to my shop. I wont be going back here and will tell others to avoid. Its a shame a local hardware store, the last small Ace in the area acts this way. read more

Wonderful and helpful staff. DIY projects are always stressful, but the staff here knows what they are talking about, and if they don't, they'll find someone who does. Prices are a little higher than Home Depot but it's worth it for the knowledgeable staff and not having to run around looking for help, waiting for help to arrive and get pestered by various salesmen trying to sell you a remodeling kitchen or solar panels. This review concerns customer service when buying propane. I have been buying propane at Oliver's Ace Hardware for probably twenty years or more. I won't be going back again, ever. To get a propane tank refilled at OAH, you drive to the far end of their building. There is a button for a buzzer there labeled "Ring for Propane." I recall a number of years ago that buzzer was broken, and stayed that way for more than a year as I recall, but it's working now. I got to the store just before 3 PM on a Wednesday. I got out of my car, pushed the propane button, and got back in my car. After about six minutes with no one coming out, I went back up and rang it again. About five minutes later, another guy arrived wanting propane. I told him I had been there for at least ten minutes, rung the buzzer twice, and that no one had come out. So he went in to find out when someone would be there to fill our propane tanks. A minute or so later, he came back out saying that they were just too busy to have anyone come out and fill propane tanks. So I had wasted fifteen minutes - God knows how long I would have had to wait before either leaving in frustration or going in myself. If they weren't able to spare anyone to fill propane tanks, they should have put a sign over the buzzer so stating. And in case anyone from OAH tries to defend this lack of very reasonable customer service, there's one more thing: As I was sitting there, I watched one of their employees on the other side of the fence throwing boxes into a dumpster. If they were so very busy, then why was this guy doing busy work? They could have easily had him come out and explain they couldn't fill tanks today, and put up a sign so stating, rather than leaving me sitting there. I have had some other bad experiences with them, but this one took the cake. I will never go back there. There is a Mobil station on San Pablo near the freeway that refills propane tanks, as does the Arco station (cash only for them). So Oliver's is no longer an option. read more

Double the price for lifesaving equipment when disaster hits. Good job! Well, people always say supply and demand until you need some stuff for your own health, your kids' health, your 76 years old mother's health. The Butte county fire smoke has been hovering over bay area for a while and all family members coughing nonstop, including my daughter and mother. You are like, yes, I need to buy some masks. Homedepot? All run out. Google map shows me this store. I bought a box of 20 pk N95 masks for a good $49.8 while on Ace Harware website it shows $22.99. I had no choice but to pay for that. Family members' health depends on it. What is not clear to me is that: Is it a company policy of Ace Hardware to increase the price when disasters happen and human being's lives are in danger? I know the famous saying "supply and demand" and it is pure business. Maybe that's the business model Ace Hardware store is advocating, at least this store. read more

You would be surprised to see how big the store is. From the outside, it looks small but you can find so much stuff. I have found paint, a great jig saw cutting machine, paint for parking lot lines, and a cheap machine that goes with the inverted can, a great tool set for the price, and a great black and decker drill set. Furthermore, there is foam to seal holes where mice and rats can go through. Overall, the team members there have been very friendly and helpful. They have been patient and made useful suggestions. The ladies who work at the front are also friendly and very helpful. I would say the only one negative experience was with one lady who acted like she was the boss one time and was not very patient and directed her team members to do something, but without asking please. I am glad i have not seen her again, lol. read more

Wish could give option of "No Stars." Ordered a product online on 6/4, with web showing "item in stock." Received email 2 days later that order was processed and shipped. We says items normally ship within 1-2 business days, so it was right on par. I wrote an email on 6/10 asking for a tracking order or a estimate delivery date. Quickly received an email of "Order canceled. Not in stock." Were they just hoping I forgot I ordered something? Were they never going to update this order unless I wrote an email? I wrote another email asking questions, but all's I get back is a Computer Generated response that the Order was cancelled. People on the East Coast don't do business like this. Shady. read more

No one EVER seems to know where anything is. And while seeming to have plenty of inventory, most of it is impossible to see. Nails for a nail gun? They didn't know. But we found them in 30 seconds. The employee seemed surprised. Today I called to ask about a drywall product. The second person who answered the phone fully admitted to not knowing much about drywall... And I guess they don't carry Fast Set 20. I would love to support this store because it's the closest to us, and seems like a super neighborhood friendly place, but this is easily the 4th disappointing experience. She calls to remind us to order our bedding for our miniature horse's barn. Without her... don't want to tell you what the barn floor would look like without the bedding!
