I purchased some stain for my deck from Rodda. The salesman suggested I go with Sharkskin. He told me it was a great product that would last a very long time.
Unfortunately, he was mistaken. It was not designed for that particular application and it began to peel very soon after. I gave it another coat and it peeled again. I finally went back to Rodda to complain. The reason I'm giving them a good rating despite that is they stood behind their product.
They sent their guy out to my house. He confirmed that the product had been applied correctly and that Sharkskin should not have been recommended. He made an alternate recommendation. The manager provided the new product free of charge along with all the stuff I'd need to strip off the old stain. He gave me stripper, a bucket, several brushes, tape, drop cloths, etc. -- all at no charge.
Of course I still had to spend a weekend stripping the old stain and applying the new. That was frustrating. But I appreciate Rodda for doing everything they could (short of sending a paint crew out) to rectify the problem. The manager was really nice about it. He explained that this was the best he could do. I suppose I could have asked to take it up the chain to see if they would pay for the labor too so I wouldn't have to do it myself. But I could see he was really trying to make me happy and I appreciate that. So I decided to be grateful for what he had offered.
I thought about giving five stars. The manager himself deserves five. He's a really good guy. If Rodda gave managers latitude to take care of the labor, I'm sure he would have. But since they wouldn't do that, and since the initial sales person recommended the wrong product, and since I had to spend a weekend fixing their mistake, I've knocked the store itself down to four. read more
