I was visiting my dad and doing some yard work for him. I had a lot of leaves to pick up so I decided I would bye a blower vacuum and wanted to support the local shop. So I went to Ace hardware in Bellingham and talked to an older gentleman that I felt should know their products. I told him that I needed a blower vacuum to suck up leaves. Now I figured he would realize that the leaves were wet since it was raining. He showed me the Toro blower vacuum and he said his brother in law has this and it works great. I took it home and started to try and suck up wet leaves and it kept getting clogged. I finally gave up. and just raked the leaves. The clerk never did tell me that this has a mulcher and works best with dry leaves. I have a blower vacuum that just sucks up anything at home. I went to return it, because it wasn't doing what I was told it would and since I don't live there, I couldn't wait for the leaves to dry. I was told by the same guy that sold it to me and one of the younger clerks that I can't return it. They gave me all kind of excuses and I finally gave up. I will never shop there again. I would not have had this head ache if I had gone to Home depot or Lowes. At least they know what they are selling. read more

I was charged for a part that I didn't buy and when I brought in my receipt to get my money back I was told I didn't have a part to return, that it had been 18 days and that the security cameras refreshed after 8 to 10 days. I was also sold the wrong parts twice. Inept is the word for Ace. I'll never go back there and buyer beware! read more

I love coming to Ace! I've always had really great experience with associates helping me find exactly what I need and offering other ideas or products, without pressure. Today an associate (Connor) helped me for so long make some car keys and did everything he could to ensure they would work! He was so kind and really made me happy I came to Ace to make my key!!! My new go to for all my BBQ needs. They're not really that personable, but they're SUPER efficient. Just imagine robot people. Pros? Blue Rhino propane tanks (park on the south side of the building... That's where the tanks are and no you can't walk the tank through the store...) So much BBQ stuff! I came in today looking for a socket wrench to try and change my car headlight bulb myself, as I am a 19 year old broke college student and still trying to figure out how to be adult. I was debating my options as I found I would have to spend at least thirty dollars for the wrench alone, which is quite hard financially when I am living paycheck to paycheck. That's when Shawn offered to come out and take a look at my headlight to see if he could lend me a wrench. He then took the next 20 minutes to go out of his way and changed the light for me. I cannot express enough how grateful I am that he did this. I'm not sure I would have been able to do it alone and I will not forget this experience. It seems every weekend, I find I need to visit my favorite Ace Hardware for a screw, tool or something else I need for our home. The staff is warm and always helpful and they always have interesting new stock in weekly to tempt me. It's also a great place to get your keys cut, and buy plant pots etc. and other things for the garden. I recommend! read more

I needed something to snake my shower drain, I first tried Fred Myers which was a joke. Very crowded, and after looking in the cleaning supplies section and the bathroom section with no luck we asked an employee who was not super friendly and told us it was in plumbing which it was not. Every time as soon as I walk in someone is very ready and willing to help and asks what I'm looking for, and then immediately walks me over to the place where they have what I need. I was literally about to have a mental breakdown because I lost the screws I needed for my ikea bed frame. I thought, "oh I can just go to Ace and pick up new screws". Imagine my dismay when I got there and realized the item numbers for the screws were entirely IKEA's own branding. Alright, I thought, well maybe I can google them and find the dimensions. So I did just that in the aisle of Ace... and found them! BUT OF COURSE they were in metric and I was about to pull my hair out and quit. My last possibility was to trouble the poor employees of the Bellingham Ace Hardware and ask for help. A wonderful employee by the name of Cameron heard my desperate anxiety-filled cries for help and sprung into action! On top of finding me the closest possible matches to the screws I needed, he did so patiently and with a great attitude. He had to sit with me for many many MANY minutes as I desperately scrolled through the online IKEA manual on my phone to figure out what screws were necessary. If it sounds like I'm going over the top about this situation, maybe, but today Cameron saved the day and spared me an anxiety attack and the cost of an entirely new bed frame. Every time I walk in, I get asked if I need help finding anything which is great. What is not great is when I say I'm good, thanks and then get tailed for the rest of the time I'm in the store. You all make me feel like a criminal. All I want to do is peruse for the part I need in peace while also getting to know what other products you have that I might want to use in the future. I have since stopped coming to your store even though it is conveniently close and I've been going to Lowe's on Sunset drive.
