I've always enjoyed shopping at Greenhouse. It is a local icon as downtown Bellingham stores go. Prices are sometimes high, but the quality is always excellent. I purchased a dining table from my list of "likes" that was luckily available from the floor display. Lead times for others I was interested in were very long through no fault of the store. The Greenhouse used to be a great home store. I have bought furniture, kitchen items, and candles there in the past, and admired the way everything looked so beautiful and artistically placed. As of recent, I have gone there over the last 8 months without much luck finding the kitchen items I needed. At first I was willing to give them the pandemic excuse for not really having stocked kitchen items. The second time I went was close to Christmas and there were so many ornaments and decor, but not really any items I was looking for-springform pan, napkin holders, ice cube tray, air popcorn popper etc. I feel like they have lost their focus. I gave it one last try to see if now that the pandemic is getting better that things would improve, but it hasn't. There still isn't any kitchen gadgets, but if you need fancy platters or Le Creuset or discounted Christmas decor, then this is your place. I like to support local business, but I will go elsewhere or online to find what I need and not waste my time going to this store anymore. The help feels non-existent. I hope they find their focus of what direction the store is going. read more

As it turns out, even during a time when people are increasingly focused on their homes a business that specializes in home goods can still suffer, provided they treat everyone that comes in like an idiot. I stopped coming here last November when the person delivering an order from the ship practically yelled at me after first making me feel guilty I was using the delivery option she told me about. Today I figured it had been 11 months so I would give them another try. They were condescending and rude and made a point of loudly correcting my pronunciation of a French brand name. No wonder that they are shrinking their store. It could be seen as quite the bargain though since you no longer have to fly to Paris to having someone treat you like crap about how you say French words. read more

This is a store with high quality kitchen and home decor and cookware. It's much more fun to go there in person to see the nice selection. The bakeware from France is exquisite. Plus, the customer service was great. The cashier carefully wrapped my bakeware. Great stuff. read more

We bought an umbrella and wire frame patio table and had to collect our purchases from the warehouse. As the boxes were being collected, I struck up a conversation with one of the employees. "You live in Seattle? Why are you up here in Bellingham shopping for home items?" Good question. During a previous visit, we purchased two stacking stools for our kitchen. I had admired many of the house wares on the shelves but I wrongly assumed I could find them elsewhere. I know my way around the web and, try as I might, I could not find the items anywhere but in Greenhouse. Whatever exclusivity the store has with its suppliers is very, very strong. I don't gravitate toward kitsch (Jonathan Adler), oversized (Crate & Barrel), or ornate (Pottery Barn), so I really appreciate the items sold at Greenhouse with their clean, minimal design. I also like being able to enter a store without being accosted by overpowering potpourris and their ilk. Synthetic fragrances are generally odiferous and many Seattle stores think they have a winning combination with the same furniture everyone else is selling with candles that pair vanilla and currant or whatever. The store staff are always friendly and they know when to assist (and when to leave you be). The staff are also genuine in their disposition--God knows the world has more than its fair share of retail associates with affectations that go right through you and possibly the objects behind you. When I have a day off, I enjoy driving to Bellingham and walking around the core downtown area. And so far I have returned home with purchases from Greenhouse. I call that an all-around win. read more

I normally don't write reviews but this experience was particularly not fun. To preface this, I work in a retail store and I understand the demands every retail employee is put through on a day to day basis. I went to this store specifically because I saw something in their window display that delighted me, so I made the trip back the next day to purchase it. I came into the store and was not greeted or acknowledged, however that doesn't seem to be part of their experience which is perfectly fine, it's a beautiful store and easy for people to wander in and look around. I located the item I saw and was saddened that it was in a different texture than I thought, I went to find a sales person whom I could ask if it came in a different variation, I understand she might have been busy but she shook her head and said "nope sorry" Then walked away. Again, she could have been busy, that's fine I get it I selected another item I loved, looked around some more and came to the cash wrap to the same sales person I'd spoken to previous. While she was finishing up with the guest in front of me another sales person came up and immediately acknowledged the couple who had gotten to the line after me and began to rung them up, even stepping in front of me to get to the cash wrap to do so. The sales person in front of me said oh wait this gal was here first, which I appreciated, but in order to not make that couple uncomfortable since they had already walked up I said it was fine and waited. Now all of this aside, The one reason I truly would rate this experience low, is the fact that I overheard the other sales person offer a loyalty program or a mailing list to the couple shopping next to me But when she was doing this, my item was already rang up and put into a bag. Why was I not asked about this program? It saddens me that some surface judgement was made about me that I would not want it And that, despite maybe not seeming so to the staff in the moment, is actually showing a form of prejudice. I cannot say that the sales person actually made a momentary judgement call, so I asked, "do you guys have a loyalty program?" To which she replied oh it's just a mailing list...did you want to join? Sadly at this point I was dissapointed I had to ask about a program that benefitted this business as I was already a guest purchasing and could have wanted to sign up had I been asked and discussed the benefits. I politely declined and said thank you and went on my way. I am certain every person had positive intent, but we live in an age where you never know who will be in your line, and that's why it's so important to treat every guest the same It's a beautiful store and I love the item I got, Thank you! read more

I give this place five stars for a lot of reasons. 1) their selection is awesome, from kitchen wares to house wares and decor they have what you need be it a hostess gift or a new tablerunner. 2) their associates are so freaking sweet... very knowledgeable and if they don't know they will find you another associate who does 3) my personal fave, their holiday party! I love traveling to bham every xmas now to go to their littel soiree... they have free wine tasting, product demos, a live band, lots of fabulous appetizers and fun stuff going on all around, not to mention AWESOME SALE!!!! I like greenhouse and kinda wish they were closer to seattle but I like to stop by whenever I'm in the area. read more

Greenhouse feels, to me, like what Crate and Barrel would be like, if it were locally owned, focused on environmental friendliness, and had superior customer service. Downstairs consists of kitchen and dining items, with a little bit of fru-fru bath and body products. Lots of emphasis on sustainable bamboo furniture and cutting boards, excellent brands (lots of Cuisinart equipment, for instance), indoor and outdoor entertaining stuff, lots of kitschy and cool details. Upstairs, a decent selection of furniture. Again, a focus on eco-friendly stuffing, sustainably raised leathers, bamboo bedframes, neat stuff like that. Tends toward the modern and stylish. Not the best selection or finest furniture, but very solid. Top it off with professional, friendly staff that seem committed but don't interfere with your browsing, either. read more

The Greenhouse in Bellingham has been a favorite of mine, to peruse while in the area, for the last 6-7 years. they have a wonderful selection of home goods and we always seem to find just the right decoration or gift there while spending the day in Fairhaven and Bellingham. Recently, my husband and I had been looking for a dining table and chairs in the usual places for us, Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware. We had been amazed and chagrined by the delivery times--up to a year for 1-style of chair we wanted...so very glad we happened into The Greenhouse and actually found a table that we loved--delivery expected in two weeks or less! The table is handcrafted over the border in Canada and exceeded our expectations in price, quality and beauty when delivered. The chairs took a little while to decide on, but we were given a delivery date of the beginning of September. The store was ordering new floor models and called my husband to ask if we would like them in lieu of waiting until September---yes! There was a slight snafu with the chairs not being delivered when promised, but Bree, went out of her way and had them delivered on Saturday, which is not customarily done! Great customer service, great local store for so many shopping needs--check them out! read more

I was a loyal customer for many, many years. The variety was excellent, a friendly staff & and prices were reasonable. Once it sold, it changed. I've been in several times since it sold and wasn't impressed. I decided to visit the first of December thinking the inventory would be substantial, but I was once again disappointed. Their Christmas decorations were expensive and the collection was nothing compared to what they use to have. Actually the entire inventory was sparse. I found two ornaments at the GH that were 9.95 yet I bought the exact same ones at Pottery Barn for 5.00 a piece. Quite surprised. Also the service wasn't as good & friendly as it use to be. The lady who wrapped my breakable items did a very poor job of "wrapping" them. Like she didn't care. I miss the former owners and the beautiful store they took so much pride in. We usually steer clear of Greenhouse because of the prices. Recently, however, we were looking to buy new dishes. We had tried Bed, Bath, Beyond; Macy's Home Store; Target; Burlington; Pier One Imports; and many others with no luck. We went to Greenhouse as a last resort and could not believe the quality of the dishes we found and the price! We ended up finding a better deal at Greenhouse than any other place we'd been to (we event got a full set of glassware to go with it). I do love the styles and quality of products they carry, so after such a positive experience, we will give them another try in the future. :) read more

I'm super picky about what kitchen supplies I get for myself. Bellingham doesn't have Sur la Table or Williams Sonoma, but we have Greenhouse and it's a good replacement for me. With kitchenware, what you pay for is what you get and they have some of the best kitchenware for home cooks that is reasonably priced for the quality of products you get. read more

This is basically the non-corporate Ethan Allen of Bham. It's an interesting set up with not a lot of merchandise plugging up the sectioned rooms, but the prices on some of the furniture can be expensive. I think it is comparitive to any other furniture place that you may go to and it definitely has more character and focus on the customer than a chain furniture store. They really want to help you with design questions so that you can build a room that works for your home. Great service - average furniture. read more
