Turns out, I had a loose belt - an easy fix - and he advised me as to how I could do it myself next time the same symptoms struck. Plus, he greased up the hex shaft and a few other well-seasoned cogs and joints, and...; I'm realizing talking snow blower repair can sound real saucy. The mechanic looked at it and didn't think this was the problem, he suggested to look at the sprocket bushings, a common failure item. Turned out it was the bushings ($6 part). Saved me the expense of the differential part ($160 part). Good to know that they are not looking to sell you expensive parts that are not the problem. Trust in repair service is rare these days.
